An Implementation of an Initial Design System for an Excavator Front Group with an Intelligent CAD Module

It's difficult for manufacturers to derive a new design from the demands of consumers as quickly as possible and a designer carries out design operation using insufficient resources in initial design. To carry out initial design process efficiently for an excavator front group, it is necessary for a designer to manage lots of parameter with an existing knowledge or with in-house know-how and develop function module that calculates working range and excavator force. By doing so, it will bring up the optimized values of parameters based on the DOE in the early design stage. In this paper, a new approach to improve the process with optimized parameters is proposed to reduce a product development time of the excavator front design.
A Constrained Triangulation Technique for Visualization on Mobile Devices

3D rendering is becoming a common feature of mobile application programs with the rapid advance of mobile devices. Since the existing rendering engines do not provide triangulation functions, mobile 3D programs have focused on an efficient handling with pre-tessellated geometry. In addition, triangulation is comparatively expensive in computation, so it seems that the triangulation cannot be easily implemented on mobile devices with limited resources. Triangulation of 3D geometry is the essential process of visualization of 3D model data and many different triangulation methods have been reported. We developed a light and fast visualization process that involves constrained triangulation based on Voronoi diagram and applied it to a mobile computer application. In this paper, we applied kd-tree to the original incremental construction algorithm and produced new O(nlogn) incremental construction algorithm. And we show a simple and efficient constrained triangulation method based on Voronoi diagram. This paper also describes an implementation of mobile STEP data viewer as an application of our proposed algorithms.
Pole Selection Method for Delaunay Triangulation

Presented in the paper is a procedure to reconstruct a triangular mesh from a point cloud. Although, the proposed procedure is based on the well-known Voronoi diagram approach, it introduces a selection method of 'Pole' to improve the quality of resulting mesh. To select the appropriate Poles for high quality of Triangular mesh, the patterns that the Poles affect to the mesh quality are carefully analyzed. It is possible to improve the mesh quality by controlling the selection method of 'Pole' in terms of distance limit. The initial mesh obtained by the proposed procedure may include invalid triangles. To relieve this problem, a slicing method is proposed to remove invalid triangles from the initial mesh. At last, correcting technique of normal vectors of generated mesh is introduced.
Digital Human Modeling for Human-centered CAD System

The purpose of this research is to develop the Human-centered CAD system in which human factors can be considered during the design stage. For this system there are several issues to research, like the digital human modeling technology, the definition of interactions between human and product, the simulation of human motion when using the product, and the bio-mechanical analysis of human, etc. This paper introduces how to construct the kinematical structure of the digital human model. For our digital human model H-ANIM, the international specification of humanoid animation is referenced. And we added the skeleton geometry and the skin surfaces to our model. And it can manipulate its joints by forward kinematics. Also the IKAN inverse kinematics algorithm is adopted to support the posture prediction of the digital human model in the product environment. All of these ideas are implemented using CAD API so that we can apply these functions to the current commercial CAD systems. In this manner, the human factor issues can be effectively taken into account at the early design phase and the costs of bio-mechanical evaluation will be significantly reduced.
Surface Deformation Using Guide Surfaces

In this paper, the method to modify a surface through three dimensional vector field technique is presented, In this method two guide surfaces are required as a shape reference. One is the shape of original surface, the other is the target shape for the result surface. Proposed method is consists of two steps. The first step is to calculate the mapping points on original and target guide surfaces so that the shape error may be minimized. The second step is to construct the smooth vector field from mapping points of the first step. The developed method is applied to shoe design system which makes the surface modeling very easy and effective.
PPR Information Managements for Manufacturing of Automotive Press Dies

To achieve rapid developments and cost savings in manufacturing industries including automotive die shops, new paradigm and its supporting systems of information managements through total product life cycle are needed for concurrent and collaborative engineering. For manufacturing of automotive press dies, integrated and efficient managements of PPR information including product, manufacturing process and resource are essential. In this paper, we introduce a PLM approach to achieve engineering collaborations in product development and production of automotive dies. To prove concepts and benefits of PPR information managements, we implement new business workflow and detail procedures, PPR information management system and other related applications. By PPR information managements in PLM, improvements in quality of engineering results and savings in time from design to production of dies are possible.
Solving for Missing Link of Exhaust Tube at the Household Gas Boiler USING TRIZ

There have been 3E problems of energy, economy and environment since the earth has its history. Especially, the energy and environment problems have been getting serious after the modem industry revolution. Therefore, the demand of gas as an eco-friendly energy source is getting increased. With the demand of gas, the installation and use of gas boiler is also increased, so human life injury by the waste gas(CO) of boiler goes on increasing every year. It is the content about a life of the exhaust tube which is used at Gas boiler in this paper. We explain also the course to apply the 6SC(6 Step Creativity)of practical TRIZ and evaluate the resolution.
A Design Study on Fillet Area of Bracket for an Automatic Transmission through Fatigue Analysis

Brackets for an automatic transmission are usually used to connect the transmission with adjacent components in a vehicle. Fillet areas of brackets are one of the most important areas to design the brackets because the areas are easily fractured when the brackets are subjected to external loads. In this study, a new design around the fillet area of the bracket is suggested and improved effects of the proposed design are proved through the comparison of safety factors with the current design. The safety factors are calculated through the fatigue analysis via a commercial code, FEMFAT.
