Neutral Reference Model for the Sharing and Propagation of Engineering Change Information in a Collaborative Engineering Development

As modular production becoming increasingly widespread in globalized manufacturing industries, sub modules or parts of the final product are being provided by many suppliers. Some part suppliers design their own products for themselves. In some cases, part suppliers provide the same type of product to multiple OEM companies. Because all part suppliers and OEM companies typically cannot use the same CAD system, engineering change in the CAD model of one company cannot be directly propagated to related CAD models of other companies. Even if two companies use the same CAD system, it may be difficult to share their CAD model owing to corporate security policy. In this paper, a neutral reference model that consists of a neutral skeleton model and an external reference data model is proposed as a new medium for the sharing and propagation of engineering change information among collaborating companies.
Procedural Interface between Freehand Sketch-based Modeling System and Commercial MCAD

Research that reconstructs a 3D model from a freehand 2D sketch has gained attention since 1990s, when data integration in the CAD/CAPP/CAM/CNC chain was an important issue. However, 2D sketches in the conceptual design phase have not been integrated with the downstream CAD/CAPP/CAM/CNC chain. In this paper, we present a method to interface a freehand sketch modeling to commercial CAD systems by mapping a sketch modeling history to the macro parametric history. We use an extended ISO10303-112 standard to represent the modeling history in a gestural modeling system and translate sketch files to neutral macro files. Macro parametric translators are used to translate netural macro files to commercial CAD files.
Development Technology of Vision Based Augmented Reality for the Maintenance of Products

The flow of technology is going to human-oriented direction, from the time when the computer was first invented, to now where new computing environment using mobile and global network are everywhere. On that technology flow, ubiquitous is being suggested as new paradigm of computing environment. Augmented Reality is one of ubiquitous technologies that provide the interactions between human and computer. By adding computer-generated information to real information and their interaction, user can get the improved and more knowledgeable information about real world. The purpose of this paper is to show the possibility of applying vision based augmented reality to maintenance of product system.
Implementation of an E-BOM Copy Method for an Order-specific Semiconductor Equipment

In this paper we propose an engineering bill of materials (E-BOM) copy method that can be utilized to manage the product information for each equipment during building a product lifecycle management (PLM) system in the order-specific semiconductor equipment manufacturer. The previous works studied on an E-BOM creation and management method for the mass manufacturing and production. The method is difficult to apply to an environment in which many engineering changes occur and the different specification to each equipment is required such as semiconductor equipments and facilities adopting built-to-order instead of built for inventory. Moreover the method is known to be the major drawback to deteriorate the design efficiency. Our E-BOM copy method enables users efficiently to manage the specification of a product and shortens the product development cycle. To implement the E-BOM copy method in the PLM environment, we developed the E-BOM copy system that automatically generates new parts and their numbers according to the numbering rule while copying the E-BOM from existing semiconductor equipments and then can apply the parts for reuse to new semiconductor equipments. This system can duplicate not only 3D CAD data but also technical documents.
Rights Control for the Exchange and Sharing of IFC Model-based Standard Construction Drawing Information

Construction industry, which is a composite industry being performed by organic combination of various tasks, gives birth to a various of information in the stages of planning, designing, and maintenance management. In particular, the drawing information is broad in the scope of use because it contains all information about buildings as wall as bid, materials, contracts. Therefore, the management of drawing information security is one of the most important factors, which determines the success of failure of business. The major findings and result of this study are as follows to control the distributed drawing information in the collaboration environment. 1) Analysis for function and practical use of DRM in the construction industry. 2) Proposal for applications of DRM that can secure IFC model-based drawing information in the collaboration environment. 3) Extraction from additional IFC entities to apply DRM to part 21 physical files 4) Analysis for functions which are necessary in DRM application prototype system and development of the system. 5) Development IFC model-based DRM prototype system.
An Accurate and Efficient Method of the Spray Paint Simulation for Robot OLP

Recently, various attempts are being done to apply off-line programming system to field of paint robot. But most commercial simulation softwares have problems that are slow simulation speed and not support various painting paramenters on simulation. This paper proposes enhanced paint simulation method for off-line programming system. For these, this method used the mathematical model of flux field from a previous research. The flux field has the flux distribution function, which reflects on the feature of paint spray. A previous research derived this flux distribution function for an integral function and calculated paint thickness function for an integral function. But if flux distribution function is defined as an integral function, it is inadequate to use for real-time simulation because a number of calculation is needed for estimation of paint thickness distribution. Therefore, we defined the flux distribution function by numerical method for reducing a mount of calculation for estimation of paint thickness. We derived the equation of paint thickness function analytically for reducing a mount of calculation from the paint distribution function defined by numerical method. In order to prove proposed paint simulation method this paper compares the simulated and measured thickness. From this comparison this paper show that paint thickness distribution is predicted precisely by proposed spray paint simulation process.
A Study of Implementation of Defense Configuration Management System based on PLM

A configuration management system was implemented by applying PLM to the defense field. The PLM system has recently been incorporated in a wide range of industries, and it has allowed for improvements in work productivity and expansion of related services by comprehensively managing and securing connection regarding configuration information in the defense field. Implementations include acquisition of configuration related information and reinforcement of BOM-oriented configuration management function, securing compatibility among 3D drawings of different agencies, improvement of drawing and document management functions, comprehensive systematic configuration management focused on product structure, strengthened configuration control functions, a management system according to the work flow and life cycle functions, an integrated configuration management system of 3D model CAD resources and an enhanced management system. This paper covers a case study reviewing the implementation of a PLM-based configuration management information system and its results, so that the information can be made available to other agencies and companies seeking to apply PLM in their organizations.
An Integration of Product Data Management and Software Configuration Mangement

This paper introduces an integration of Product Data Management (PDM) and Software Configuration Management (SCM). PDM and SCM have supported development of mechanical products and software products respectively. The importance of software components in the current products increases rapidly since the software enables the products to satisfy various customer requirements efficiently. Therefore the current product development needs enhanced product data management that can control both the hardware and software data seamlessly. This paper proposes an extended product data model for integrating SCM into PDM. The extension enables PDM document management to support the version control for software development. It also enables engineers to control both the software and hardware parts as integrated data objects during product configuration and engineering change management. The proposed model is implemented by using a commercial Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system and a development of a network based robot system is tested by the implemented product development environment.
