Development of Rule-based Checking Modules for the Evacuation Regulations of Super-tall Buildings in Open BIM Environments

IFC based open BIM has internationally developed as a solution for interoperability problem among different software applications. Despite much interest and effort, the open BIM technologies are rarely introduced to the construction industry and need more technical development for a practical application as well. This research aims to develop automated code checking modules for quality assurance process of BIM data. The research have analyzed domestic regulations focusing on super-tall buildings and developed open BIM-based code checking modules for the evacuation regulations. The modules are able to validate evacuation regulations such as installation of emergency elevator and fire safety zone. The authors expect to improve the process of BIM quality assurance and enhance the quality of BIM data by this research on automated checking system.
Study for Architectural Standard Details Based On BIM Information Framework

In the situation where there should be a gap between the design environments of 2D drawing and 3D BIM modeling, it is unavoidable aspect to face confusion caused by parallel usage of both technologies unless the project delivery systems are entirely upgraded to 3D. Therefore, it is critical to make efforts to minimize this confusion. Meanwhile, detailed drawings have very important roles in the construction process because they do not only concretely express construction methods for a given design plan but also provide basis for quantity takeoff and construction cost estimation etc. This paper suggests a plan to standardize detailed information based on BIM standard framework in order to make BIM realize the information. In the short term, this plan provides improved environment where both BIM and CAD technologies can be applied and, in the long term, it provides bases for BIM to replace CAD technology.
A Proposal of Scenario Generation Process for Small Scale Engagement

Computer-based modeling and simulation (M&S) techniques have become an essential component in the development of new weapons systems. M&S techniques provide a means to simulate military training, strategies, military doctrines, and weapons acquisition processes. This paper proposes a small scale engagement scenario generation method. This work also includes a process for scenario generation and visualization. The proposed scenario generation methodology employs the Timed-FSA (finite state automata) and DFS (depth first search) algorithms. The proposed scenario generation method is verified using a one-on-one combat engagement scenario between two submarines. In addition, we suggest a scenario generation process including whole scenario generation and scenario visualization.
Measured Data based Inspection for Unintended Deflections in Automotive Outer Panels

This paper proposes an approach to detect unintended deflections in an automotive outer panel. Conventionally, the detection of unintended deflections has been performed by experienced works, and it requires much amount of time and efforts. The motivation of this work is to reduce such efforts by providing an automated detection methodology. For the detection of unintended deflections, we make use of the measured data from an optical scanner which can be considered as a Z-map data. The proposed approach consists of four major steps; 1) measured data acquisition for an automotive outer panel, 2) identification of shape features, 3) removal of shape features, and 4) detection of unintended deflections via curvature analysis.
A Study on the Effective Operation of HVAC Systems on Manufacturing Plants by EnergyPlus and PSO Algorithm

Recently, the importance of the HVAC system (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning System) is growing because comfortable working environment has emerged as important element for enhancing work efficiency. HVAC system is a general term of a system that collectively creates desired temperature and state through heating and air conditioning. HVAC system consists of many objects, so it requires a lot of constraints for its effective operation. Thus, specific strategy is needed for an optimal operation of HVAC System for plant. In this paper, manufacturing plants which have HVAC systems has been modeled and the objective function and constraints for an effective operation have been defined. And new strategy for an effective operation of HVAC system with energy simulations has been proposed.
Genetic Algorithms for Tire Mixing Process Scheduling

This paper proposed the scheduling method for tire mixing processes using the genetic algorithm. The characteristics of tire mixing process have the manufacturing routing, operation machine and operation time by compound types. Therefore, the production scheduling has to consider characteristics of the tire mixing process. For the reflection of the characteristics, we reviewed tire mixing processes. Also, this paper introduces the genetic algorithm using the crossover and elitist preserving selection strategy. Fitness is measured by the makespan. The proposed genetic algorithm has been implemented and tested with two examples. Experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm is superior to conventional heuristic algorithm.
Reliability Analysis of LNG FPSO Liquefaction Cycle in DEVS Environment

The liquefaction process system is regarded as primary among all topside systems in LNG FPSO. This liquefaction process system is composed of many types of equipment. LNG equipment on offshore plants has quite different demands on the equipment compared to traditional onshore LNG plants, so the reliability analysis of this process system needs to be performed. This study investigates how DEVS formalism for discrete event simulation can be used to reliability analysis of the liquefaction cycle for LNG FPSO. The reliability analysis method based on DEVS formalism could be better model for reflecting the system configuration than the conventional reliability analysis methods, such as fault tree analysis and event tree analysis.
Development of Rafter Processing Machine and Simulation Verification

Han-ok (the Korean traditional house) is famous for its beauty and healthful aspects. However, its construction cost is too high because of the manual process of parts such as rafter, timber, etc. These days, many people want to build a modernized Korean traditional house at a low cost. In order to do so, the rafter machining process is required to be automatized using a CNC machine. It is also observed that, generally the timber does not have a uniform shape. Therefore, it is also needed to examine the timber shape before starting its processing. This paper presents the concept design of the rafter processing CNC machine, and a 3D laser scanning system. The laser scanner is developed to acquire 3D details of the timber shape. Furthermore, the results of simulated experiments are presented to investigate surface roughness during the machining process of the timber. Since cutting parameters largely influence on surface roughness and cusps formation, it is needed to achieve optimal machining parameters. Several experiments were carried out changing cutting parameters such as cutting tool diameter, feed-rate, and spindle speed.
