Optimization of BIM based Space Plan by Expert System

The quality of building space program is a key to measure how the building performance satisfies its owner and users. However assuring its efficiency requires reliable criteria that reflect high level experience knowledge in the field. This study suggests a plan to gauge the level of building space performance using expert knowledge, which has not been utilized well enough but should play a critical role. In order to setup an expert system measuring level of the space program, we firstly optimized the space areas to the best case in a knowledgebase and use them as criteria to judge the quality of the spaces extracted from BIM model. We found the experimental results show us a promising way of measuring a relative quality of the space programs.
A Study on Fault Prediction Method in a Pump Tower of LNG FPSO

The plant equipment usually has a long life cycle. During its O&M (Operation & Maintenance) phase, since the occurrence of an accident of offshore plant equipment causes catastrophic damage, it is necessary to make more efforts for managing critical offshore equipment. Nowadays due to the emerging ICTs (Information Communication Technologies) and sensor technologies, it is possible to gather the health status data of important offshore equipment and their environment data, which leads to much concern on CBM (Condition-Based Maintenance). In this study, we will propose an approach to estimate the remaining lifetime of an offshore plant equipment (pump tower) based on gathered ocean environment data.
Service-oriented Web for Transformable 4D Printing Components

4D printing is a method that manufactures a programmed transformable 3d printed components that can be transformed in a pre-designed environment. We propose a service-oriented web architecture for supporting 4D printing system. Service model is classified under four kinds of functions: design, sharing, application and production. We designed RESTful web APIs for these functions. Some preliminary designs about the web API architecture and data modeling is discussed.
A Study on Development of Integrated Management System for BIM Property Information

BIM library, as a systematic collection of BIM objects where the building information is stored, is a vital factor to construct the BIM based work environment. However, construction business is faced the problems relating BIM library such as the absence of the standard for establishing BIM library, the discontinuity of BIM library`s compatibility and the lack of practice applicable BIM library. These problems cause the decreasing work efficiency and the recreating BIM model, by delivering inefficient information required in each stage and application field. The purpose of this study is to suggest the integrated management system for property information of BIM library in order to minimize the reworking and to manage information of each stage and application field when exchanging and sharing information. To achieve this, the BIM information classification, the criteria of property requirements for information exchange in BIM application field and the BIM library management system are developed. This study could contributes to ensuring the reliability and accuracy of results of BIM based analysis and to enhancing the speed of business process with sharing and exchanging building information utilizing a single BIM model.
A Mesh Generation Method to Estimate Welding Deformation for Shell Structures

In shipbuilding, hull assemblies are manufactured by welding. The thermal deformation caused by the welding produces shape deformation. Counter-deformed design methods have been used in shipyards to cope with the weld-induced deformation of ship assembles. Finite element methods (FEMs) are frequently used to estimate welding distortion in the counter-deformed design. For the estimation of welding distortion, producing uniform rectangular elements is required to enter thermal loads on the welding line and obtain accurate analysis results. In this paper, a new automatic mesh generation method is proposed for prediction of welding deformation in FEM. Meshes are constructed for test cases to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed mesh generation method.
A Weighted Points Registration Method to Analyze Dimensional Errors Occurring during Shipbuilding Process

It is important to analyze dimensional errors occurring during shipbuilding process. A ship is constructed by assembling blocks and installing outfits in assembled ship structure. Blocks and outfits have a main direction that has greater importance than other directions from the view point of dimensional error. Therefore, a main direction should have a greater weighting factor than other directions in order to achieve meaningful inspection results. In this paper, a modified point registration method based on iterative closest point (ICP) is proposed. In this method, a user determines one or two main directions among x, y, and z directions, and then each main direction is made to have a greater weighting factor than other directions. For points registration, mapping between measured points and design points are performed by the modified ICP in which weighting factor assigned to each main direction is considered.
Web-based 3D Virtual Experience using Unity and Leap Motion

In order to realize the virtual prototyping (VP) of digital products, it is important to provide the people involved in product development with the appropriate visualization and interaction of the products, and the vivid simulation of user interface (UI) behaviors in an interactive 3D virtual environment. In this paper, we propose an approach to web-based 3D virtual experience using Unity and Leap Motion. We adopt Unity as an implementation platform which easily and rapidly implements the visualization of the products and the design and simulation of their UI behaviors, and allows remote users to get an easy access to the virtual environment. Additionally, we combine Leap Motion with Unity to embody natural and immersive interaction using the user`s hand gesture. Based on the proposed approach, we have developed a testbed system for web-based 3D virtual experience and applied it for the design evaluation of various digital products. Button selection test was done to investigate the quality of the interaction using Leap Motion, and a preliminary user study was also performed to show the usefulness of the proposed approach.

This paper describes the innovation strategy for engineering plant PLM including Master Data management, EPC project management, full 3D modeling and quality management.
Development of Optimal Planning System for Operating Transporters in Shipyard

In this paper, an optimal planning system for operating transporters in shipyard is developed. The system is designed to utilize the geometries of shipyard, and manage the data of blocks and transporters directly. There are four major menus such as shipyard map management based on GIS, block transportation request, transporter management, and optimal transportation planning in the system. The geometries and properties of the shops, roads, and addresses are manipulated in the shipyard map management menu. The block transportation requests and the properties of transporters are managed in the block transportation request and transporter management menus, respectively. The optimum transportation is planned automatically for minimizing the unload times of the transporters, and the optimum transportation plans are confirmed and printed to the transporter drivers. The effectiveness of the system was verified through the application to a large-sized shipyard.
Development of 3D CAD/CAE Interface in Initial Structural Design Phase of Shipbuilding

The finite element modeling of a ship for hull structural analysis on the basis of new harmonized common structural rules (CSR-H) is to be extended to the cargo holds in fore and after body of a ship. Unlike the parallel middle-body where the external and internal features of hull are equal along to the longitudinal direction of a ship, in fore and after body, the external and internal features of hull vary linearly or even irregularly in forms of a surface or a curve along to the longitudinal direction of a ship. Thus, it needs lots of design man-hours for the modeling for structural analysis. In order to save man-hours in initial structural design phase of a ship, the specified 3D CAD system has been adopted in shipbuilding industry. Through the interface between CAD and CAE (rule scantling and direct strength assessment), design man-hour in initial design phase can be saved even under the environment of CSR-H.
Virtual Surgical Planning System for Mandible Reconstruction

In this paper, we propose a virtual surgical planning system specialized to mandible reconstruction surgery. Mandible reconstruction surgery is one of the most difficult surgeries, even for experienced surgeons. Compared to the traditional surgical procedures, virtual surgical planning can reduce the operation time in operating room while expecting better surgical outcome with optimized planning. However, with existing software systems, it requires much time and manual operations in virtual surgical planning. To reduce preparation time and improve accuracy of virtual surgical planning, we have developed optimized functions for virtual surgical simulation of mandible reconstruction with user-friendly interface. We found that the proposed system shortened the preparation time by half compared to the existing system from the experiments. The proposed system supports surgeons to make accurate plan faster and easier. The virtually planned results are used to make surgical cutting guide by 3D printing, and this will enhance surgical performance in operating room.
A Shipyard Simulation System using the Process-centric Simulation Modeling Methodology: Case Study of the Simulation Model for the Shipyard Master Plan Validation

Shipbuilding process takes a long time for producing final products, and needs many different resources. Because of these characteristics, it has been studied about shipyard simulation and virtual manufacturing that is able to implement the virtual manufacturing process. However, among the previous researches, it requires considerable time and effort to construct simulation model since the systematic methodology has not been used for simulation modeling. Also, reusability of constructed simulation model was low. Therefore, this research defines the method to construct shipyard simulation system using the process-centric simulation modeling methodology and shipyard simulation framework. This paper also validates the utility of this methodology through applying to construct simulation model for the shipyard master plan validation.
