Journal of Korean society of Dental Hygiene, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 1~12
DOI : 10.13065/jksdh.2013.13.1.001
Objectives : In order to make a proposal of a Korean standard dental hygiene curriculum, the job description of the National Health Personnel Licensing Examination Board was analyzed to prepare a job analysis matrix of dental hygienist to select required core competency. Methods : Data were analyzed to test the job validity of dental hygienist and categorize the duties of dental hygienist. A proposal of a standard dental hygiene curriculum was mapped out by making a comparative analysis of the courses necessary for American authorization of dental hygiene curriculum, existing proposals of Korean standard dental hygiene curriculum and the courses of the departments of dental hygiene offered by domestic three-year colleges and four-year universities. Results : Basic medicine courses were reinforced or newly offered to provide an opportunity for students to transfer to a domestic four-year university or to a foreign university. In the field of clinical dental hygiene and practice, preventive dentistry, prophylaxis and practice were integrated, and the names of the related courses were unified to give a chance for students to engage in comprehensive dental hygiene practice. There were different courses for dental clinical science at present. In this proposal, students should earn 125 credits in total. Conclusions : Standard dental hygiene curriculum proposal was required by three-year and four-year colleges across the nation. To make it happen, the original names of dental hygiene courses should be used, and the dental hygiene certification and evaluation institute that is under the umbrella of the Korean Dental Hygienists Association should lay out the standard of the KSDHEP to facilitate the utilization of the standard dental hygiene curriculum proposal.

=.259 and dietary pattern with
=.224. Total health index has indirect relationship with the oral health index with
=.141 and dietary pattern has direct relationship with the oral health index with
=.315. The oral health index has direct relationship with total health index with
=.454. Conclusions : Our research shows that there is meaningful relationship between the oral health, oral health index and total health index of workers. The systematic and continuous programs for oral health should be transferred to workers for the raise of oral health and the quality of the life.

Journal of Korean society of Dental Hygiene, volume 13, issue 1, 2013, Pages 21~29
DOI : 10.13065/jksdh.2013.13.1.021
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the participation attitude of students toward pre-clinical practicums, their satisfaction with the practicums and related stress, and to investigate the influential factors for their participation attitude to practicums. Methods : The subjects in this study were three different groups of students who took pre-clinical practicums at different times. One group of students who entered college in 2008 took a practicum in December, 2009, and another group of students who entered college in 2009 took a practicum in June, 2010. The third group of students who entered college in 2010 took a practicum in June, 2011. Results : 1. As for participation attitude, the students who completed a practicum before they underwent field training in the second semester of their sophomore year got a higher mark of 3.44(p<0.05). 2 Concerning the operation of practicum, they felt a lot of stress when they took a practicum before they underwent field training in the first semester of their sophomore year and when they had no dental experience(p<0.001). 3. Regarding satisfaction with practicum, they scored higher when they took a practicum before they underwent field training in the second semester of their sophomore year(p<0.05). And the students who were more gratified with dental experience expressed better satisfaction(p<0.001). 4. As to the influential factors for the participation attitude of the students, those who were more satisfied with the content of practicum, the operation of practicum and evaluation took a more positive participation attitude(p<0.001). More stress about the operation of practicum and more stress about evaluation exerted a greater negative influence on participation attitude(p<0.05). Conclusions : Given the findings of the study, a pre-clinical practicum should be offered before field training is provided in the second semester of the sophomore year in order to ensure the efficiency of education, and a wide variety of information should be offered so that students could gain dental experience before they take a practicum.

DOI : 10.13065/jksdh.2013.13.1.030
Objectives : Since most oral diseases are not life threatening, it can be assumed that an individual's behavior to maintain one's oral health is most likely influenced by one's oral health knowledge. Methods : Mothers whose children are attending five kindergartens and child care facilities in the city of Danjin, Chungnam were selected as subjects of this study. Out of a total of 230 questionnaires collected. A self-administered survey was conducted from April 1 to April 30, 2012. The data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0 (SPSS 19.0 K for window, SPSS Inc, USA) with the level of significance as 0.05. Results : 1. Most of the participants correctly answered questions on the oral health knowledge with a mean of 7.37 out of 9. 2. In the section of caring a child's oral health behavior, 'caring a child to brush his or her teeth three times a day' had the highest score of 3.45 out of 5. 3. Looking at caring a child's oral health behavior and a mother's oral health knowledge by general characteristics of mothers, there were no significant differences based on the mother's age, whether a mother is currently working or not, her level of education, and her monthly average income. Conclusions : Based on the above results, we can draw a conclusion that the lower the difference between the rate of correct answers and that of incorrect answers on mother's oral health knowledge to her child, the higher the mother's score of caring her child's oral health behavior, leading to better caring.

Concerning the relationship between oral health behavior and the oral health indexes, whether they got a dental checkup over the past year, daily toothbrushing frequency, use or nonuse of oral health supplies and mastication problems made statistically significant differences to DMFT index, FS-T index, T-health index and CPI index. The variables that had a significant impact on oral health were selected from among the variables of oral health awareness and oral health behavior that affected oral health, and the variables were selected as independent variables. And then the oral health indexes were selected as dependent variables, and a multiple regression analysis was carried out by using the selected independent and dependent variables. As a results, it's found that the variables made a 22.4% prediction of DMFT index; 51.3% for FS-T index; 52.0% for T-health index; 47.4% for CPI index.
