Kang, Boo-Wol ; Lee, Sun-Mi ;
Journal of Korean society of Dental Hygiene, volume 2, issue 2, 2002, Pages 131~143
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of empowerment, self-efficacy, and turnover intention of dental hygienists. Date were obtained from 213 dental hygienists who were working at dental clinics, hospitals located in Seoul Kyung-ki. The results were analyzed with spsswin 9.0 and the conclusion is as follows; 1. The level of dental hygienists empowerment was 3.07, self-efficacy was 3.67, and their turnover intention was 2.98. 2. According to the working place and position, there were significant differences in empowerment(p<0.05). 3. According to the experienced-years, position, marriage and turnover experience there were significant differences in self-efficacy(p<0.05). 4. According to the position and marriage, there were significant differences in turnover intention(p<0.05). 5. Empowerment showed significant a positive correlation with self-efficacy and significant a negative correlation with turnover intention. 6. Turnover intention, information structure and opportunity structure accounted significantly for the empowerment structure and self-efficacy. 7. Self-efficacy and GE structure accounted significantly for the turnover intention.

This is a section study for research of main cause and coping ways caused by stresses during the clinical experiment. It was researched by 231 students of third grade have finished clinical experiment until September though questionnaire. The methods for this study used the a stress measuring instrument thai was used by Hoa-Yun Jun and coping ways of stresses devised by Bell. We computed the frequency and the mean value by the SPSS 10.0 statistical data and we got the following result that from the experiment with t-test and the ANOVA analysis. 1. The mean value of stresses indicated rather higher states in figures 2,855 and the figures that were classified by each areas, indicated highest figures are affected by circumstances, that is 3.065. 2. As higher as the degree of satisfactions in their major, students feel stress less so, the result was not quite different between each of them (p=0.007). 3. The copping ways of stresses indicated, similar differences by using of long-term copping ways and short-term copping ways to cope with stresses(p=0.000). 4. In case of the students who failed college entrance exams and prepared for the next chance for more than one year, indicated highest figures that is 2.57 in short-term ways to cope with stresses, so it showed slightly differences between them(p=0.014). 5. According to the satisfactions of clinical experiments, there were not any statistical differences in long-term coping ways but, as smaller as the satisfactions, in that evidence of the students use short-term copping ways, it showed slightly differences between them(p=0.041). 6. According to the degree of stresses, low-stress groups use short-term coping ways more than high-stress groups, so it showed slightly differences between them(p=0.001). 7. As far as the using of long-term coping ways, the figures of between the lower stress groups and the higher stress groups indicated 2.89 and 2.97 respectably so, the figures were not so closed.
A Scanning Electron Microscope Study of the Bristles

Journal of Korean society of Dental Hygiene, volume 2, issue 2, 2002, Pages 159~173
The 180 toothbrushes out of 18 models( ten brushes for each model) were used for this examination among the toothbrushes for adults which were sold in the domestic markets. After three-month brushings through a roll ing method and Bass method were practiced with Toothbrush Stroke Tester which reproduced brushing methods outside the mouth, I investigated the morphology bristle tips of using scanning electron microscope(SEM). The conclusions are as follows. 1. Soft bristle toothbrushes(of 8 models out of 9 models) were badly damaged at the bristles end after 3 month toothbrushing. 2. Medium bristle toothbrushes(of four models out of five models) were irregularly worn at the bristles end after 3 month toothbrushing. 3. Hard bristle toothbrushes(of three models out of four models) were chisel-shapedly worn at the bristles end after 3 month toothbrushing. 4. Taper-shaped toothbrushes were very irregularly bent at the bristles end after 3 month toothbrushing. 5. It was examined in the bristle stiffness that soft bristle toothbrushes were found in 9 models(50.00%), medium bristle toothbrushes in 5 models(27.78%), and hard-bristle toothbrushes in 4 models(22.22%).

Journal of Korean society of Dental Hygiene, volume 2, issue 2, 2002, Pages 175~186
Fluoride has been one of the most widely studied caries-preventive agents. But the effect of prenatal administration had been controversies for many years. The results showed that there were no influence on reproductive rate of rats with administration of fluoride from 0 to 20 ppm during pregnancy(p>0.05). There was a trend towards slightly increased the mean ash weight in the 1, 5 and 20 ppm groups, as compared with the control group. However, there was no significant differences among groups (p>0.05). The contents of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus in the total bone were increased with the administrated fluoride concentration were increased, but there were no statistically significant differences among groups(p>0.05). The mean fluoride level of 1 ppm group was significantly higher than that of control group, but the concentrations of fluoride in total carcass pups of 5 and 20 ppm groups were significantly less than that of 1 ppm group(p>0.05). The results of this study indicate that the amount of fluoride transferred to the offspring, which may produce anticariogenic effects in the primary teeth of their effects in the primary teeth of their offspring.

The purpose of this study was to obtain the basic data provide continuous and active dental treatment for the mental handicapped children. The authors studied on the dental caries experience, oral hygiene slates and caries activity test in the mental handicapped children of 9-11 years old, who are housed by rehabilitation school in Kwang-ju and in the 30 normal children of 9-11 years old as a control group. Correlation coefficiency was calculated among the caries experience, oral hygiene states and caries activity test for every children. The obtained results are as follows. 1. The mental handicapped children showed remarkably high score compared to normal children in DMFT index(The Index score was
in the normal children and
in the mental handicapped.). 2. Correlation coefficiency was reveled very high score between DT index and DMFT index of the normal children(P<0.01), and the mental handicapped was also high score(P<0.01) between ft index and dmft index. 3. The PMA Index of the mental handicapped children was comparatively higher than the normal(The Index score was
in the normal children and
in the mental handicapped.). 4. In the correlation coefficiency between the caries experience and modified snyder test, DMFT index of the normal children was revealed some high score(P<0.05). DMFT index of the mental handicapped was showed remarkably high score(P<0.01).

The closely related species Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, Hemophilus aphrophilus and Hemophilus paraphrophilus are common findings in oral microbiota. The aims of this study were to compare the distribution of three species in healthy subjects and periodontitis patients using PCR for 16s rRNA gene. The DNA was extracted from the subgingival plaque and saliva in 122 subjects for restriction enzyme analysis with Hinf I and Hha I. In case of periodontally healthy person, A. actinomycetemcomitans was predominant than H. paraphrophilus in saliva sample, but H. paraphrophilus was predominant than A. actinomycetemcomitans in subgingival plaque sample. On the contrary, in case of periodontitis patients, H. paraphrophilus was predominant than A. actinomycetemcomitans in saliva sample, but A. actinomycetemcomitans was predominant than H. paraphrophilus in subgingival plaque sample. In addition, the fact was confirmed that the distribution of A. actinomycetemcomitns of women periodontitis patients was somewhat higher than men periodontitis patients in saliva and subgingival plaque samples. We convinced that the PCR method for 16s rRNA gene was important for screening and monitoring of periodontal disease.

Journal of Korean society of Dental Hygiene, volume 2, issue 2, 2002, Pages 215~225
Objectives: Dental personnels have high chances of exposure to various infections during many dental procedures. This study was performed to investigate the state of infection control in the private dental clinics and prevention state of hepatitis B virus infection among the dental hygiene students in Kwanju city, Korea. Methods: Questionnaires were obtained from 94 dental hygiene students who participated in dental practice in private dental clinics for more than five weeks. Results: 83.9% of dentists and 17.2% of dental hygienists routinely used the mask for treating all patients, 32.3% of dentists and 6.5% of dental hygienists routinely used the rubber gloves. The use of protective eyeware was much lower in each group. Disinfectant was used in 52.7% for sanitization of dental instruments before cleansing. The prevalence of HBsAg and anti-HBs were 3.8% and 67.1% respectively, 52.7% of dental hygiene students had history of accidental needle stick. Conclusion: Routine use of personal barrier techniques by dental personnels should be emphasized. Dental hygiene students were not properly immunized against hepatitis B virus and had high incidence of accidental needle stick. It is necessary to establish specific regulations or recommendations for cross infection control in dental practice and to performed scheduled vaccination program for hepatitis B virus for dental hygiene students.
