Analysis on the Temperature of Multi-core Processors according to Placement of Functional Units and L2 Cache

As cores in multi-core processors are integrated in a single chip, power density increased considerably, resulting in high temperature. For this reason, many research groups have focused on the techniques to solve thermal problems. In general, the approaches using mechanical cooling system or DTM(Dynamic Thermal Management) have been used to reduce the temperature in the microprocessors. However, existing approaches cannot solve thermal problems due to high cost and performance degradation. However, floorplan scheme does not require extra cooling cost and performance degradation. In this paper, we propose the diverse floorplan schemes in order to alleviate the thermal problem caused by the hottest unit in multi-core processors. Simulation results show that the peak temperature can be reduced efficiently when the hottest unit is located near to L2 cache. Compared to baseline floorplan, the peak temperature of core-central and core-edge are decreased by

Design of Line Scratch Detection and Restoration Algorithm using GPU

This paper proposes a linear scratch detection and restoration algorithm using pixel data comparison in a single frame or consecutive frames. There exists a high parallelism in that a scratch detection and restoration algorithm needs a large amount of comparison operations. The proposed scratch detection and restoration algorithm is designed with a GPU for fast computation. We test the proposed algorithm in sequential and parallel processing with the set of digital videos in National Archive of Korea. In the experiments, the scratch detection rate of consecutive frames is as fast as about 20% for that of a single frame. The detection and restoration rates of a GPU-based algorithm are similar to those of a CPU-based algorithm, but the parallel implementation speeds up to about 50 times.
A Post-mortem Detection Tool of First Races to Occur in Shared-Memory Programs with Nested Parallelism

Detecting data races is important for debugging shared-memory programs with nested parallelism, because races result in unintended non-deterministic executions of the program. It is especially important to detect the first occurred data races for effective debugging, because the removal of such races may make other affected races disappear or appear. Previous dynamic detection tools for first race detecting can not guarantee that detected races are unaffected races. Also, the tools does not consider the nesting levels or need support of other techniques. This paper suggests a post-mortem tool which collects candidate accesses during program execution and then detects the first races to occur on the program after execution. This technique is efficient, because it guarantees that first races reported by analyzing a nesting level are the races that occur first at the level, and does not require more analyses to the higher nesting levels than the current level.
Stochastic Power-efficient DVFS Scheduling of Real-time Tasks on Multicore Processors with Leakage Power Awareness

This paper proposes a power-efficient scheduling scheme that stochastically minimizes the power consumption of real-time tasks while meeting their deadlines on multicore processors. In the proposed scheme, uncertain computation amounts of given tasks are translated into probabilistic computation amounts based on their past completion amounts, and the mean power consumption of the translated probabilistic computation amounts is minimized with a finite set of discrete clock frequencies. Also, when system load is low, the proposed scheme activates a part of all available cores with unused cores powered off, considering the leakage power consumption of cores. Evaluation shows that the scheme saves up to 69% power consumption of the previous method.
A design of Software 2D BitBLT Engine based on RTOS

In this paper, we proposed the implementation of software-based 2D BitBLT engine on the pSOS operating system and the operation of the BitBLT engine on patient monitoring device was verified. To verify the proposed method on the patient monitoring device, we designed prototype PCB board, and verified the operation. We designed the motherboard by using ARM9-based CPU. Because hardware-based BitBLT module was replaced with software-based one, CPU load problem was weighted. To solve this problem, w changed 400Mhz processor instead of 200Mhz processor. We implemented 2D BitBLT kernel module as a device driver which is one of the key elements of a graphics controller GUI in patient monitoring device.
An Ontology-based Analysis of Wikipedia Usage Data for Measuring degree-of-interest in Country

In this paper, we propose an ontology-based approach to measuring degree-of-interest in country by analyzing wikipedia usage data. First, we developed the degree-of-interest ontology called DOI ontology by extracting concept hierarchies from wikipedia categories. Second, we map the title of frequently edited articles into DOI ontology, and we measure degree-of-interest based on DOI ontology by analyzing wikipedia page views. Finally, we perform chi-square test of independence to figure out if interesting fields are independent or not by country. This approach shows interesting fields are closely related to each country, and provides degree of interests by country timely and flexibly as compared with conventional questionnaire survey analysis.
Bearing Multi-Faults Detection of an Induction Motor using Acoustic Emission Signals and Texture Analysis

This paper proposes a fault detection method utilizing converted images of acoustic emission signals and texture analysis for identifying bearing's multi-faults which frequently occur in an induction motor. The proposed method analyzes three texture features from the converted images of multi-faults: multi-faults image's entropy, homogeneity, and energy. These extracted features are then used as inputs of a fuzzy-ARTMAP to identify each multi-fault including outer-inner, inner-roller, and outer-roller. The experimental results using ten times trials indicate that the proposed method achieves 100% accuracy in the fault classification.
Design of 3D Action Game for PC Environment

Third Person Action Game is a genre receiving continuous interest from many game enthusiasts. The most distinctive feature about third person action games is that the user can actually see the character as well as the various actions, which in turn increases user engagement. Many games are developed using game engines. However, this study designs a third person action game using only DirectX library instead of the specialized techniques in game engines. By doing so, the game development costs will be minimalized. The study also uses several basic algorithms in order to process the various events and to make the animation effects more efficiently managed in the graphic device. The performance superiority is demonstrated by the results of the study.
Wideband Dual-polarized Microstrip Antenna with H-shaped Coupling Slot

This paper investigates wideband dual-polarized microstrip antenna with H-shaped coupling slot. These types of antennas are used to prevent deterioration of transmission quality caused by terminal interference or multipath fading, which usually occur when many terminals are used in limited space such as hot-spot zones. The experimental results show that the impedance bandwidth (
) of 33.98% and the peak gain of 8.58 dBi (at 2.11 GHz) were obtained by the frequency band under 2.7 GHz. The proposed antenna is designed originally for multiple service bands with simple structure and easily be mass-produced for various commercial applications.
Comparison of HMM and SVM schemes in detecting mobile Botnet

As mobile devices have become widely used and developed, PC based malwares can be moving towards mobile-based units. In particular, mobile Botnet reuses powerful malicious behavior of PC-based Botnet or add new malicious techniques. Different from existing PC-based Botnet detection schemes, mobile Botnet detection schemes are generally host-based. It is because mobile Botnet has various attack vectors and it is difficult to inspect all the attack vector at the same time. In this paper, to overcome limitations of host-based scheme, we compare two network-based schemes which detect mobile Botnet by applying HMM and SVM techniques. Through the verification analysis under real Botnet attacks, we present detection rates and detection properties of two schemes.
The Grid Type Quadratic Assignment Problem Algorithm

TThis paper suggests an heuristic polynomial time algorithm to solve the optimal solution for QAP (quadratic assignment problem). While Hungarian algorithm is most commonly used for a linear assignment, there is no polynomial time algorithm for the QAP. The proposed algorithm derives a grid type layout among unit distances of a distance matrix. And, we apply max-flow/min-distance approach to assign this grid type layout in such a descending order way that the largest flow is matched to the smallest unit distance from flow matrix. Evidences from implementation results of the proposed algorithm on various numerical grid type QAP examples show that a solution to the QAP could be obtained by a polynomial algorithm.
Collaborative Learning System based on Augmented Reality for Enhancing Collaboration

This paper aims to design and implement a collaborative learning system based on the augmented reality. The existing augment reality-based learning systems have just focused on interactivity between a system and learners without consideration of cooperability, thereby leading to an ineffective approach to encouraging an learning system to be more supportive and conducive of and to cooperation among learners. The collaborative learning system is a learning method, with which learners achieve a common objective through critical thinking and cooperative teamwork so as to seek solutions to such fulfillment. This requires positive interdependence, proactive interactions, a sense of responsibility shared by individuals as well as the group, and development of teamwork among learners. Educators and systems assume a critical role in helping the collaborative education be effective. An educator is responsible for defining a project at the outset of learning activities, organizing groups for learners, and providing evaluation criteria applied to a group's project activities. Meanwhile, a system shall support interactions to take place while facilitating learning activities. Furthermore, an educator shall provide a system for managing and evaluating activities involving interactions among learners. This paper suggests and embodies a collaborative learning system based on the augmented reality with consideration of the aforementioned collaborative education.
The Design and Implementation of The Amendment Statement Automatic Generated System for Attached Tables in Legislation

Legislation are social norms that give directly or indirectly, huge impact on the social or corporate, personal problems, unlike a normal document. Also, over time it has a feature constantly changing by the laws enactment and amendment, repealed. The amendment statement automatic generated system is used for purpose of proclamation to those. However, existing system is able to generate amendment statement just text body of law how compare and analyze the current legislation and amendment legislation. However, actual legislation to be created attached table of the table form in complex structure besides simple text form as body text. In this paper, we additional implement attached table processing to existing the amendment statement automatic generated system that containing the table does not handle attached table. We were analyse to the amendment statement generated grammar and table structure in attached table of the legislation for processing to attached table. Also proposed a method to compare attached table in the table. So, it is enable the automatic generation with amendment statement which various forms of legislation the documents.
The Difference Test among Job Types in the Impact of Social Welfare Worker's Person-Organization Fit on Service Satisfaction

This study is to review the standpoints for person and organization fit and suggest integrated standpoint, and identify causal relationships between P-O fit and client service satisfaction and test differences of casual relationships between job types through moderating effects of job types in the relationships among variables, and suggest some implications based on the analytical results. For this study, sampling was conducted for social welfare workers. In this study, analytical results showed that P-O fit influences client's service satisfaction through job attitude. This study suggested some implications on the base of analytical results.
An Empirical Study on the Effects of the Competitiveness of Intermediate Products and Enterprise's Core Competency on Customer Value and Enterprise Performance in Korean and Chinese Enterprises

The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of the competitiveness of intermediate goods and enterprise's core competency on customer value and enterprise performance. And it is surely meaningful to investigate the intermediate product competitiveness with the variable of interest to recent corporate values and corporate customers with business performance by exploring their relationships. This research focuses on the intermediate goods competitive dimension and the company's core competency, and then several models are proposed. The research model is based on the existing core competencies of the conceptual model, which consists of intermediate goods competitive, core competencies, product innovation, product reliability, customer value and corporate performance. The automobile company in China and Korea are focused in this paper; empirical analysis method is applied to examine the relationships in these areas. The concept of core competencies in the existing competitive enterprises in product and process is defined as the relative advantage. Eight hypotheses are introduced for statistical hypothesis testing. Employees and typical intermediate products in automotive companies in China and Korea are investigated.
Challenges in Accordance with Current Law by the Enforcement of the Medical Dispute Adjustment Act

Medical disputes the problem that occurs essentially among the rapidly increasing of the demand for health care and the attention of the public health. The subject of dispute is mostly criminal penalties and civil redress due to a physician's medical malpractice, resolved by agreement was prioritized. They trying to solve through the litigation and exercise the skills. But, the lack of clear standards and related legislation make difficult to solve the problem. for this, "The Act of Medical Malpractice Damage's Relief and Mediation for Medical Dispute Resolution" (Medical Disputes Adjustment Act) was enacted in April 7, 2011 and performed in Apr. 8, 2012. To solve the problem autonomously between the parties. It is the legislative intent such as mediation or arbitration to solve the conflict between the parties. But there are some problems that examined from the perspective of constitutional review with the criminal and civil problems. Therefore, this paper will find out the legal issues about Medical Dispute Adjustment Act and the constitutional and civil issues. And want to expect to be prepared the more stable and efficient solution of medical disputes.
Art based STEAM Education Program using EPL

The rapidly changing 21st-century knowledge and information society is emphasizing converged education that crosses various academic fields. In particular, the society expected the cultivation of the talent who balance scientific creativity and artistic sensitivity by adding arts to the existing converged education revolving around science and technology. However, at present, most STEAM education has been actively conducted with a focus on science and technology, whereas the subject of arts has been regarded or utilized as a supplementary means. Its problem is that the educational characteristics and values of art education have not been effectively utilized in educational terms and this could lead to superficial integrated education. In this respect, this study had the knowledge of various fields, such as science, technology, and mathematics, utilized usefully during the process of experiencing and creating arts. Accordingly, this study designed an education programs as with the case of Nam-Jun Baek who expanded the dominion of arts by creatively utilizing his own time's scientific technologies. In this educational process, the target program was developed in a manner that enables EPL to be utilized essentially as the study's knowledge-based tool and medium. The results of applying this educational program in 5th-grade elementary school students showed that the program has positive effects on the creative attributes of the students.
