Efficient Submesh Allocation Using Improved QA Algorithm
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 3, issue 1, 1998, Pages 1~12
In 2D(two-dimensional) mesh system, an efficient submesh allocation scheme must have low time overhead for allocation and low response times for incoming tasks. Quick Allocation(QA) reduces submesh allocation time, but can cause high external fragmentation. Due to this, response times for incoming tasks increase. In this paper, we have improved QA to diminish external fragmentation while having not nearly effect on allocation time. Simulation revealed that modified algorithm reduces to some extent the mean response time of the tasks compared to QA.
The Design of CTS for an Editor's Composition
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 3, issue 1, 1998, Pages 13~23
We have experienced a great deal of change and development in CTS(Computerized Typesetting System) since the prepress market used the phototypesetting machines. The CTS has so many advantages - the shortening of processing time, the versatility of layout, the easy of changing layout style and the absence of pollutional source- as HT(Hot Plate Type) hasn't. Hut, as newspaper is faced with the new circumstances which is the emergence of competitive media and the expansion of economy theory, etc, the newspaper offices have solved the problems using the reduction and closing down of revision department for economizing expense account, the direct composition by editor this paper describes the vital point for direct composition and the design for the descriptive markup-based CTS.
The Design of a Functional Language which has an Annotation Syntax and Implmentation of the Front-end of the Translator for the Language
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 3, issue 1, 1998, Pages 25~34
There are two major method for expressing parallelim in functional languages. The one is the strictness analysis and the other the annotation. The strictness analysis is a method that a compiler detects parallelism and expresses the detected information in the object program. The annotation is a method that a programmer detects parallelism and expresses in the source program. This study is on the annotation and is aimed at construction of a translator for a functional language which has an annotation syntax. The translator translates a source program to enriched lambda-calculus graphs. The translator is implemented in C using compiler development tools such as YACC and Lex, under UNIX environments. In this paper we present the design and implementation techniques for developing the front-end of the translator
Automatic Term Relevance Feedback in IRS
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 3, issue 1, 1998, Pages 35~46
In the Information Retrieval System. the relevance of retrieved items is determined by the judgement of the user and thus the evaluation of the system efficiency counts on the cognizance of users to some extent. The relevance feedback mechanism provides a device allowing iterative searches during which the query can be modified and refined based on user input from the relevant documents. The feedback system are generally reported to outperform non-feedback systems. The procedures and algorithms to implement the feedback mechanism are surveyed in this paper.

The needs and practical use of multimedia authoring tools in education are increasing. In the paper. we analyze essential elements and the functional features of an authoring tool which may be required for developing multimedia CAI programs. Based on a review of popular authoring tools in the market, GREAT-II, Artware, Authorware professional, ToolBook and IconAuthor, we present the improvement direction of next generation multimedia authoring tools.
Class Slicing Method using Program Dependency Graph in C++
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 3, issue 1, 1998, Pages 63~80
In object-oriented software development, reuse has been studied for the enhancement of software quality and software developer's productivity. But improper modeling in design phase and uncontrolled change during maintenance activities have a problem to reuse a class. In this paper we analyze a semantic cohesion of classes using C++ Program dependency graph, and slice a class with cohesion, so that this method supports the re-estimate of class quality and the extensibility of class. Therefore this proposed method in this paper increases the easibility of the restructuring in the reusable systems, when the developer selects a requested component for a object-oriented program development.
A study on Object Contour Detection using improved Dual Active Contour Model
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 3, issue 1, 1998, Pages 81~94
In order to extract the contour of interesting object in the image, Kass suggested the Active Contour Model called "Snakes". Snakes is a model which defines the contour of image energy. It also can find the contour of object by minimizing these energy functions. The speed of this model is slow and this model is sensitive of initialization. In order to improve these problems, Gunn extracted the accurate contour by using two initialization. and operated to less sensitive of initialization. This method could extract more accurate contour than the existing method, but it had no effect in the speed and it was sensitive of noise. This paper applied to the Energy Minimization Algorithm about only the pixel within the window applying the window of 8
8 size at each contour point consisting Snakes in order to solve these problems. The method offered in this paper is applied to extract the contour of original image and cup image added to gaussian noise. By tracking the face using this offered method, it is applied to virtual reality and motion tracking. tracking.
The Incremental Learning Method of Variable Slope Backpropagation Algorithm Using Representative Pattern
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 3, issue 1, 1998, Pages 95~112
The Error Backpropagation algorithm is widely used in various areas such as associative memory, speech recognition, pattern recognition, robotics and so on. However, if and when a new leaning pattern has to be added in order to drill, it will have to accomplish a new learning with all previous learning pattern and added pattern from the very beginning. Somehow, it brings about a result which is that the more it increases the number of pattern, the longer it geometrically progress the time required by leaning. Therefore, a so-called Incremental Learning Method has to be solved the point at issue all by means in case of situation which is periodically and additionally learned by numerous data. In this study, not only the existing neural network construction is still remained, but it also suggests a method which means executing through added leaning by a model pattern. Eventually, for a efficiency of suggested technique, both Monk's data and Iris data are applied to make use of benchmark on machine learning field.
A Study on the Simulation of JIT Production System Using SIMAN
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 3, issue 1, 1998, Pages 113~124
This paper has simulated JIT production system. One of the well-known production management system, JIT, was first developed in Toyota in Japan during 1970's. Its contribution to productivity and quality improvement seemingly predicts its wider use. The JIT system has been proved its effectiveness lot production management system by many industries, however the effectiveness of its application in non-repetitive productions is yet uncertain. In this respect, this paper develope the JIT simulation model, and this JIT model are evaluated by using a SIMAN simulation. It has proved that the performances of JIT model are excellent.
The Effect on the Quality of Service in ATM Network of Leaky Bucket Algorithm
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 3, issue 1, 1998, Pages 125~148
The use of shaping mechanism, realized by means of a leaky bucket based algorithm on input traffic of an ATM network allows to achieve higher utilization of network resources, and to guarantee the quality of service requested by the users. The functionalities of the shaping mechanism based on leaky bucket, are characterized by the token pool sire and by input queue size. In this paper we have analyzed, using simulations, the effect on the quality of service in ATM network of leaky bucket algorithm when shaper parameters described above are changed.
A Study for the Efficient Constructure on the Local Area Networks
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 3, issue 1, 1998, Pages 149~160
Many company or college construct the information and communication network for the office efficient but they construct the total solution from vendor without consultant. It makes two problems. The one is that it is makes difficulties for the office efficiency because network is to slow and the other is that the investment is to be excessive. In this paper, Ⅰexplaned the network construction method from small size network to large network step by step for the performance view point.
