Obscene Material Searching Method in WWW
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 4, issue 2, 1999, Pages 1~7
World-Wide Web(WWW) is a protocol for changing information exchanges which is central to text documents in the existing network to make a multimedia data exchanges. It is possible for a beginner to search and access data which he wants to find as data were stored in the form of hypertext. The easiness for searching and accessing the multimedia data in WWW makes a important role for obscene materials to be toward generalization and multimedia and occurs social problems for them to be commercialized, while other researchers have actively studied the way to block effectively the site providing obscene materials for solving such problems. This paper presents and implements the blocking method for the sites having obscene material as it effectively search them. The proposed model was based on Link-Based information retrieval method and proved that it accomplished more efficient retrieval of relevant documents than probabilistic model when compared the one with the other which is known to generate the most correct results. The improvements in the average recall and precision ratio were shown as 12% and 8% respectively. Especially, the retrieval capability of relevant documents which include non-text data and have a few links increased highly.

Jeon, Sang-Hoon ; Chung, Hyun-Sik ;
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 4, issue 2, 1999, Pages 8~18
It is very important to recover data immediately at a single disk failure for critical applications such as multimedia storage systems. real-time systems and so on. As an efficient solution, this paper proposes that RAID level conversion scheme to improve the performance before a failed disk is replaced with a new disk. By using this scheme, it does not require an additional disk to recover data. Comparing with previous studies, this scheme is appropriate to low cost system that has not additional redundant device. The performance of proposed scheme is evaluated and analyzed with that of RAID level 5 for various requested sizes through the simulation. The results show that the performance of the proposed scheme is improved up to 20 percents compared with that of RAID level 5 at the failure mode and 80 percents at reconfigured mode.
Efficiency Evaluation of the Feature Extraction of Roads from Map Image using Morphological Operators*
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 4, issue 2, 1999, Pages 19~26
The geographic information system is needed in the image recognition field. This study recommends an efficient method to construct the GIS from the feature extraction of roads through scanning of a normal or hand-made maps. Many algorithms have been presented for such image information recognition. However, such algorithm processes have limitations due to their complexity. To efficiently extract road information from scanning map images. a
directional form is applied - structuring element, erosion and dilation, and opening and closing. This method allows for efficient evaluation of the featured road extracts from the map image and from the character sets.

Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 4, issue 2, 1999, Pages 70~79
In mobile database system, transactions processing schemes address in ones using a static coordinator and coordinator migration. This apply coordinator migration mechanism which perform the transaction in new database server when posed to be the transaction service handoff. That apply static coordinator mechanism which perform the transaction in database server to begin the transaction when posed to be the transaction service handoff. In this paper, a scheme-independent simulation model has been developed in order to support comparative performance studies of mobile transaction processing schemes. And this paper describes the model in detail and presents simulation results which were obtained for what it believe to be the performance evaluation of the mobile transaction processing schemes. Finally, the mobile transaction processing schemes will improve system performance by minimizing the transmission of message for processing the transactions in mobile database system.
A study on the Collaboration Telemedicine Application System using the PACS
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 4, issue 2, 1999, Pages 80~87
We propose the various Telemedicine applications using collaborative PACS environment. Traditionally, almost all medical images have been printed on radiological films. These films are expensive to produce and easy to misplace and usually only one copy exists, thus limiting the number of persons who have simultaneous access to the images. But the merit of this system including PACS(Picture Archiving and Communications System ) is very many which are small depository, low maintenance expense, good efficience(storage, speed) and good flexibility but the development costs is higher. This research has been done creating multimedia-based Telemedicine system for home PCs in network environment. Most of Telemedicine used hardware and exclusive line of high cost as CATV broadcasting technique. But this system will contribute to change the Home-PC for better use of collaborations among doctor and patients through various modes of interactions in cyberspace.

Implementation of Power Line Transmission System using A New Digital Lock Loop
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 4, issue 2, 1999, Pages 105~112
Spread Spectrum Communication is a core technique in CDMA system, but the problem for SS Communication schemes is synchronous method. There are DLL(Delay Lock Loop), Tau-dither Loop, SO(Synchronous Osillator) etc., in the sychronous method. But since there are analog operations, the setting is difficult and circuit size is large. In this paper we proposed Digital Delay Lock Loop (DDLL) and estimated it's performance through the experiment.

A study on the subset averaged median methods for gaussian noise reduction
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 4, issue 2, 1999, Pages 120~134
Image processing steps consist of image acquisition, pre-processing, region segmentation and recognition, and the images are easily corrupted by noise during the data transmission, data capture, and data processing. Impulse noise and gaussian noise are major noises, which can occur during the process. Many filters such as mean filter, median filter, weighted median filter, Cheikh filter, and Kyu-cheol Lee filter were proposed as spatial noise reduction filters so far. Many researches have been focused on the reduction of impulse noise, but comparatively the research in the reduction of gaussian noise has been neglected. For the reduction of gaussian noise, subset averaged median filter, using median information and subset average information of pixels in a window. was proposed. At this time, consider of the window size as 3
3 pixel. The window is divided to 4 subsets consisted of 4 pixels. First of all, we calculate the average value of each subset, and then find the median value by sorting the average values and center pixel's value. In this paper, a better reduction of gaussian noise was proved. The proposed algorithms were implemented by ANSI C language on a Sun Ultra 2 for testing purposes and the effects and results of the filter in the various levels of noise and images were proposed by comparing the values of PSNR, MSE, and RMSE with the value of the other existing filtering methods.thods.
Affine Transform Coding for Image Transmission
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 4, issue 2, 1999, Pages 135~140
This paper describes a affine transform coding which is reducing long time to take on image encoding by using scaling method and limited search area technique. For evaluating its performance, the proposed algorithm compare with Jacquin's method using traditional affine transform coding methods. Simulation results, the proposed algorithm considerably reduces encoding time by using scaling method and limited search area method. Also, the proposed algorithm provides much shorter encoding time with a little degradation of the decoded image quality than Jacquin's method.
Adaptive Video Coding by Wavelet Transform
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 4, issue 2, 1999, Pages 141~146
In this paper, picture set filter is proposed for preserving compression ratio and video qualify. This filter controls the compression ratio of each frame depending on the correlation to the reference frame by selectively eliminating less important high-resolution areas. Consequently, video quality can be preserved and bit rate can be controlled adaptively. In the simulation, to test the performance of the proposed coding method, comparisons with the full search block matching algorithm and the differential image coding algorithm are made. In the former case, video quality, compression ratio and encoding time is improved. In the latter case, video quality is degraded, but compression ratio and encoding time is improved. Consequently. the proposed method shows a reasonably good performance over existing ones.
A Study on Improvement of a company's R&D Strategy
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 4, issue 2, 1999, Pages 147~154
Research and Development (R&D) departments concentrate their efforts on one of two key types of research: fundamental research to discover new technology, and product development research to determine ways to use new technology or to improve upon already existing technology. Of these two types of research, the first, fundamental research, does not guarantee that successful products will develop. This type of research generally requires the investment of large sums of money without the surety of financial gain. It can, however, greatly enhance a company's image and profit potential if it can then develop a successful product from the fundamental research their scientists and engineers have done. Also, through this type of research, companies can register patents which can result in income from the sale or license of the patented technology or process to other companies. Companies place themselves at financial risk when they delve into fundamental research. For that reason, most companies concentrate their research funds and efforts on the second type of research, product development. For a product to be considered successful the company must realize some sort of benefit such as profit, increased marketshare, market recognition, or any other company-defined benefits. Both types of research require a company's consistent financial investment and planning. As the world market becomes more competitive, only those companies that can produce a product with good quality, competitive pricing, and in a timely manner will thrive. This thesis focuses on issues for developing a successful product through examining a product life cycle, a product portfolio matrix, and reactive and proactive marketing strategies.
The EVA Analysis by the Financial Structure of the Firm
Journal of the Korea Society of Computer and Information, volume 4, issue 2, 1999, Pages 155~163
This study is intended to analyze what trend the EVA technique recently actively studied shows according to the financial structure of the firm. As a result of analysis, it was found that the firm with the entire sum of its capitals depleted showed the negative value in both the EVA on the basis of operating profit and the EVA on the basis of cash flow from 5 years before its capitals were depleted. Especially, its EVA showed the negative value more strongly than the cash flow accruing by business activity. In analyzing the EVA of the firm with more than 1,500% of the debt to equity ratio, its EVA also showed the negative value from 5 years ago. But the firm with the good financial structure of the debt to equity of less than 35% showed the positive value in the EVA on the basis of its cash flow from 5 years ago. As can be seen from this result, the fact is that the firm can survive only when it raises its EVA through its structural change(re-engineering) and business innovation. Therefore, firms need to seek to turn their business philosophy or policy into the promotion of business innovation and business management emphasizing technology in order to improve their EVA indicators.
