COINCIDENCE OF MAPS BETWEEN SURFACES
Goncalves, Daciberg L. ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 36, issue 2, 1999, Pages 243~256
Abstract
We will consider f,g : S1longrightarrowS2 a pair of maps between two orientable compact surfaces. The purpose of this paper is to decide when the pair can be deformed to a pair (f', g') such that

SHARP MOSER-TRUDINGER INEQUALITIES
Kim, Mee-Lae ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 36, issue 2, 1999, Pages 257~266
Abstract
We used Carleson and Chang's method to give another proof of the Moser-Trudinger inequality which was known as a limiting case of the Sobolev imbedding theorem and at the same time we get sharper information for the bound.

A DIOPHANTINE CONSTRUCTION OF AN EXACT ALGEBRAIC FORMULA FOR GRADED PARTITION FUNCTIONS
Soh, Sun-T. ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 36, issue 2, 1999, Pages 267~298
Abstract
A geometric construction of an exact algebraic formula for graded partition functions, of which a special one is the classical unrestricted partition function p(n), from a diophantine point of view is presented. Moreover, the involved process allows us to compute the value of a graded partition function in an inductive manner with a geometrically built-in self-error-checking ability at each step for correctness of the computed values of the partition function under consideration.

THE CONVERGENCE OF FINITE DIFFERENCE APPROXIMATIONS FOR SINGULAR TWO-POINT BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS
Lee, H.Y. ; Seong, J.M. ; Shin, J.Y. ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 36, issue 2, 1999, Pages 299~316
Abstract
We consider two finite difference approxiamations to a singular boundary value problem arising in the study of a nonlinear circular membrane under normal pressure. It is shown that the rates of convergence are O(h) and O(h2), respectively. An iterative scheme is introduced which converges to the solution of the finite difference equations. Finally the numerical experiments are given

OPTIMAL PROBLEM FOR RETARDED SEMILINEAR DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS
Park, Dong-Gun ; Jeong, Jin-Mun ; Kang, Weon-Kee ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 36, issue 2, 1999, Pages 317~332
Abstract
In this paper we deal with the optimal control problem for the semilinear functional differential equations with unbounded delays. We will also establish the regularity for solutions of the given system. By using the penalty function method we derive the optimal conditions for optimality of an admissible state-control pairs.

CONSTRUCTIONS FOR SPARSE ROW-ORTHOGONAL MATRICES WITH A FULL ROW
Cheon, Gi-Sang ; Park, Se-Won ; Seol, Han-Guk ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 36, issue 2, 1999, Pages 333~344
Abstract
In [4], it was shown that an n by n orthogonal matrix which has a row of nonzeros has at least ( log2n + 3)n - log2n +1 nonzero entries. In this paper, the matrices achieving these bounds are constructed. The analogous sparsity problem for m by n row-orthogonal matrices which have a row of nonzeros in conjectured.

A MATRIX THEOREM AND FURTHER IMPROVEMENT OF THE STILES' SUBSERIES THEOREM
Yoo, Won-Sok ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 36, issue 2, 1999, Pages 345~354
Abstract
In this paper, we obtain a matrix theorem which will be widely used in several theory and give it's applications. In particular, we present a further improvement of the improved Stile's theorem.

MULTIPLICITY RESULTS OF ORDERED POSITIVE SOLUTIONS FOR SEMILINEAR ELLIPTIC PROBLEMS ON Rn
Ko, Bong-Soo ; Lee, Yong-Hoon ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 36, issue 2, 1999, Pages 355~367
Abstract
We prove the existence of 2N-1 distinct ordered positive solutions of a class of semilinear elliptic Dirichlet boundary value problems on Rn when the forcing term has N distinct positive stable zeros and the coefficient function decaying to the zero at infinity.

ON LI-IDEALS AND PRIME LI-IDEALS OF LATTICE IMPLICATION ALGEBRAS
Jun, Young-Bae ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 36, issue 2, 1999, Pages 369~380
Abstract
As a continuation of the paper [3], in this paper we investigate the further properties on LI-ideals, and show that how to generate an LI-ideal by both and LI-ideal and an element. We define a prime LI-ideal, and give an equivalent condition for a proper LI-ideal to be prime. Using this result, we establish the extension property and prime LI-ideal theorem

Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 36, issue 2, 1999, Pages 381~402
Abstract
Let {Rn(
)}{{{{ { } atop {n=0} }}}} be a discrete Sobolev orthogonal polynomials (DSOPS) relative to a symmetric bilinear form (p,q)={{{{ INT _{ } }}}} pqd

0 and d
1 are signed Borel measures on . We find necessary and sufficient conditions for {Rn(
)}{{{{ { } atop {n=0} }}}} to satisfy a second order difference equation 2(
) y(
)+ 1(
) y(
)= ny(
) and classify all such {Rn(
)}{{{{ { } atop {n=0} }}}}. Here, and are forward and backward difference operators defined by f(

LINER STABILITY OF A PERIODIC ORBIT OF TWO-BALL LINEAR SYSTEMS
Chi, Dong-Pyo ; Seo, Sun-Bok ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 36, issue 2, 1999, Pages 403~419
Abstract
We introduce a Hamiltonian system which consists of two balls in the vertical line colliding elastically with each other and the floor. Wojtkowski proved that for the system of two linear balls with a linear potential (with gravity), there is a periodic orbit which becomes linearly stable if m1

In this paper we investigate representation groups of wreathed 2-groups and explicitly determine all the linearly inequivalent irreducible projective representations of wreathed 2-groups.

BYPATHS IN LOCAL TOURNAMENTS
Guo, Yu-Bao ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 36, issue 2, 1999, Pages 431~445
Abstract
A digraph T is called a local tournament if for every vertex x of T, the set of in-neighbors as well as the set of out-neighbors of in-neighbors of x induce tournaments. Let x and y be two vertices of a 3-connected and arc-3-cyclic local tournament T with y x. We investigate the structure of T such that T contains no (x,y)-path of length k for some k with 3 k V(T) -1. Our result generalized those of [2] and [5] for tournaments.
