CLAPP-PUPPE TYPE LUSTERNIK-SCHNIRELMANN (CO)CATEGORY IN A MODEL CATEGORY
Yau, Donald ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 39, issue 2, 2002, Pages 163~191
DOI : 10.4134/JKMS.2002.39.2.163
Abstract
We introduce Clapp-Puppe type generalized Lusternik-Schnirelmann (co)category in a Quillen model category. We establish some of their basic properties and give various characterizations of them. As the first application of these characterizations, we show that our generalized (co)category is invariant under Quillen modelization equivalences. In particular, generalized (co)category is invariant under Quillen modelization equivalences. In particular, generalized (co)category of spaces and simplicial sets coincide. Another application of these characterizations is to define and study rational cocategory. Various other applications are also given.

R-CRITICAL WEYL STRUCTURES
Kim, Jong-Su ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 39, issue 2, 2002, Pages 193~203
DOI : 10.4134/JKMS.2002.39.2.193
Abstract
Weyl structure can be viewed as generalizations of Riemannian metrics. We study Weyl structures which are critical points of the squared L
norm functional of the full curvature tensor, defined on the space of Weyl structures on a compact 4-manifold. We find some relationship between these critical Weyl structures and the critical Riemannian metrics. Then in a search for homogeneous critical structures we study left-invariant metrics on some solv-manifolds and prove that they are not critical.

Lee, Chang-Woo ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 39, issue 2, 2002, Pages 205~219
DOI : 10.4134/JKMS.2002.39.2.205
Abstract
We deride formulas for the expected values
(n) of the independent domination numbers of a random planted plane tree and a random trivalent tree with n vertices, respectively, and we determine the asymptotic behavior of
(n) as n goes to infinity.

SOME REMARKS ON A q-ANALOGUE OF BERNOULLI NUMBERS
Kim, Min-Soo ; Son, Jin-Woo ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 39, issue 2, 2002, Pages 221~236
DOI : 10.4134/JKMS.2002.39.2.221
Abstract
Using the p-adic q-integral due to T. Kim[4], we define a number B＊
(q) and a polynomial B＊
(q) which are p-adic q-analogue of the ordinary Bernoulli number and Bernoulli polynomial, respectively. We investigate some properties of these. Also, we give slightly different construction of Tsumura＇s p-adic function
(u, s,
) [14] using the p-adic q-integral in [4].n [4].

COMPLETE PROLONGATION AND THE FROBENIUS INTEGRABILITY FOR OVERDETERMINED SYSTEMS OF PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS
Cho, Jae-Seong ; Han, Chong-Kyu ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 39, issue 2, 2002, Pages 237~252
DOI : 10.4134/JKMS.2002.39.2.237
Abstract
We study the compatibility conditions and the existence of solutions or overdetermined PDE systems that admit complete prolongation. For a complete system of order k there exists a submanifold of the (
-1)st jet space of unknown functions that is the largest possible set on which the initial conditions of (
-1)st order may take values. There exists a unique solution for any initial condition that belongs to this set if and only if the complete system satisfies the compatibility conditions on the initial data set. We prove by applying the Frobenius theorem to a Pfaffian differential system associated with the complete prolongation.

Kwon, Jung-Hwan ; Pak, Jin-Suk ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 39, issue 2, 2002, Pages 253~275
DOI : 10.4134/JKMS.2002.39.2.253
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to study complete complex submanifolds of a locally symmetric Kaehler manifold with non-positive totally real normal bisectional curvature and k-pinched totally real tangent bisectional curvature.

Park, Ki-Seong ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 39, issue 2, 2002, Pages 277~287

Abstract
Let B be the open unit ball with center 0 in the complex space
. For each q>0,
consists of holomorphic functions f : B longrightarrow C which satisfy sup z
B $(1-\parallel z \parallel^2)^q\parallel\nabla f(z)\parallel < \infty$ In this paper, we will show that functions in weighted Bloch spaces
(0 < q < 1) satifies the following Lipschitz type result for Bergman metric
: ｜f(z)-f(

MATHIEU GROUP COVERINGS AND GOLAY CODES
Yie, Ik-Kwon ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 39, issue 2, 2002, Pages 289~317
DOI : 10.4134/JKMS.2002.39.2.289
Abstract
We associate binary codes to polynomials over fields of characteristic two and show that the binary Golay codes are associated to the Mathieu group polynomials in characteristics two. We give two more polynomials whose Galois group in
but different self-orthogonal binary codes are associated. Also, we find a family of
-coverings which includes previous ones.

THE METHOD OF QUASILINEARIZATION AND A THREE-POINT BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEM
Eloe, Paul W. ; Gao, Yang ;
Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 39, issue 2, 2002, Pages 319~330
DOI : 10.4134/JKMS.2002.39.2.319
Abstract
The method of quasilinearization generates a monotone iteration scheme whose iterates converge quadratically to a unique solution of the problem at hand. In this paper, we apply the method to two families of three-point boundary value problems for second order ordinary differential equations: Linear boundary conditions and nonlinear boundary conditions are addressed independently. For linear boundary conditions, an appropriate Green\`s function is constructed. Fer nonlinear boundary conditions, we show that these nonlinearities can be addressed similarly to the nonlinearities in the differential equation.
