Abstract
Let (R, m) be a 2-dimensional regular local ring with algebraically closed residue field R/m. Let K be the quotient field of R and v be a prime divisor of R, i.e., a valuation of K which is birationally dominating R and residually transcendental over R. Zariski showed that there are finitely many simple v-ideals $m

Abstract
We study in this note rings whose prime radicals are completely prime. We obtain equivalent conditions to the complete 2-primal-ness and observe properties of completely 2-primal rings, finding examples and counterexamples to the situations that occur naturally in the process.

CONTINUITY OF AN APPROXIMATE JORDAN MAPPING
Lee, Young-Whan ;
Communications of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 20, issue 3, 2005, Pages 505~509
DOI : 10.4134/CKMS.2005.20.3.505
Abstract
We show that every
Jordan functional on a Banach algebra A is continuous. From this result we obtain that every
Jordan mapping from A into a continuous function space C(S) is continuous and it`s norm less than or equal
where S is a compact Hausdorff space. This is a generalization of Jarosz`s result [3, Proposition 5.5].

Abstract
We prove that the dimension of the space of positive (bounded, respectively) solutions for the Schrodinger operator whose potential q is nonnegative on a graph with q-regular ends is equal to the number of ends (q-nonparabolic ends, respectively).

ON THE PRODUCT OF t AND BESSEL RANDOM VARIABLES
NADARAJAH SARALEES ;
Communications of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 20, issue 3, 2005, Pages 547~562
DOI : 10.4134/CKMS.2005.20.3.547
Abstract
The distribution of products of random variables is of interest in many areas of the sciences, engineering and medicine. This has increased the need to have available the widest possible range of statistical results on products of random variables. In this note, the distribution of the product | XY | is derived when X and Y are Student`s t and Bessel function random variables distributed independently of each other.

FINITE ELEMENT APPROXIMATION OF THE DISCRETE FIRST-ORDER SYSTEM LEAST SQUARES FOR ELLIPTIC PROBLEMS
SHIN, Byeong-Chun ;
Communications of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 20, issue 3, 2005, Pages 563~578
DOI : 10.4134/CKMS.2005.20.3.563
Abstract
In [Z. Cai and B. C. Shin, SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 40 (2002), 307-318], we developed the discrete first-order system least squares method for the second-order elliptic boundary value problem by directly approximating
space based on the Helmholtz decomposition. Under general assumptions, error estimates were established in the
norms for the vector and scalar variables, respectively. Such error estimates are optimal with respect to the required regularity of the solution. In this paper, we study solution methods for solving the system of linear equations arising from the discretization of variational formulation which possesses discrete biharmonic term and focus on numerical results including the performances of multigrid preconditioners and the finite element accuracy.

ASYMPTOTIC LIMITS FOR THE SELF-DUAL CHERN-SIMONS CP(1) MODEL
HAN, JONG-MIN ; NAM, HEE-SEOK ;
Communications of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 20, issue 3, 2005, Pages 579~588
DOI : 10.4134/CKMS.2005.20.3.579
Abstract
In this paper we study the asymptotics for the energy density in the self-dual Chern-Simons CP(1) model. When the sequence of corresponding multivortex solutions converges to the topological limit, we show that the field configurations saturating the energy bound converges to the limit function. Also, we show that the energy density tends to be concentrated at the vortices and antivortices as the Chern-Simons coupling constant
goes to zero.

A NUMERICAL ALGORITHM FOR ELASTO-PLASTIC MATERIAL DEFORMATION
HWANG HYUN-CHEOL ;
Communications of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 20, issue 3, 2005, Pages 589~602
DOI : 10.4134/CKMS.2005.20.3.589
Abstract
We present the numerical algorithm for the model for high-strain rate deformation in hyperelastic-viscoplastic materials based on a fully conservative Eulerian formulation by Plohr and Sharp. We use a hyperelastic equation of state and the modified Steinberg and Lund`s rate dependent plasticity model for plasticity. A two-dimensional approximate Riemann solver is constructed in an unsplit manner to resolve the complex wave structure and combined with the second order TVD flux. Numerical results are also presented.

Communications of the Korean Mathematical Society, volume 20, issue 3, 2005, Pages 603~610
DOI : 10.4134/CKMS.2005.20.3.603
Abstract
A k-sized balanced sampling plan excluding contiguous units of order v and index denoted by
, is said to be bicyclic if it admits an automorphism consisting of two disjoint cycles of length ~. In this paper, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of bicyclic BSEC(v, 3, 2)s.
