Influences of Cold and Thermal Therapy on ILs and VEGF Expression after Muscle Contusion in Rats

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of cold therapy and thermal therapy, and immunoreactivity of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF), Interleukin-1(IL-1) and Interleukin-6(IL-6) on angiogenesis after muscle contusion injury. Methods : Muscle contusion injury was induced in the gastronemius muscle by dropping a metal bead(22.8g). Cold and thermal theraphy was applied immediately and directly to the skin of injured muscle daily for three days. (experimental group-1 :

hot pack, control group non applied, treatment time : 10minutes) Results : The experimental group-1 and 2 showed higher immunoreactivity of VEGF, IL-1, IL-6 than control group during 3 days(P<0.05). And the experimental group-2 showed higher than the experimental group-1 especially VEGF(P<0.05). Conclusion : There data thermal therapy was more effective than cold therapy in the acute muscle contusion injury.
Change of Lumbar Multifidus Muslce Recorded Simultaneously by Ultrasound Imaging during Upper Extremity Lifting Movement in Chronic Low Back Pain Patients

Purpose : The purpose of this study is change of lumbar multifidus muslce recorded simultaneously by ultrasound imaging during upper extremity functional movement in chronic low back pain patients. The subject were consisted of 10 women patients with chronic low back pain and healthy asymptomatic subject 10 women. Methods : 10 women patients with chronic low back pain and healthy asymptomatic subject 10 women is voluntary participated for the research. Subjects were positioned in standing. Multifidus size were measured from L4 vertebral segement. The ultrasound imaging apparatus(Sonoace 6000, Medison, Korea) was epuipped with a 5-MHz convex array transducer. The upper extremity lifting movement used to activate the multifidus was then measured. Results : Results of the analysis showed that at the L4 vertebral leves, healthy asymptomatic subjects had significantly larger multifidus muscle compared with chronic LBP subjects. Conclusion : This study will be used as treatment method of patient with chronic LBP. The multifidus muscle in chronic LBP patients clinical significance. Most of chronic LBP patients have multifidus contraction pattern. Especially multifidus contraction in L4 vertebral segement. So chronic LBP patients necessary multifidus muscle release treatment.
The Effects of Ankle Joint Angle on Knee Extensor Electromyographic Activity

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to find the effect of ankle joint angle on knee extensor electromyographic activity following knee extension exercise. Methods : Ten male university students participated in the study. The subjects performed isometric maximal voluntary knee extensor contractions (MVC) and knee extensor EMG activity measured in with three different ankle joint angle. The EMG activity of rectus femoris(RF), vastus medialis(VM), vastus lateralis(VL) were measured using surface electromyography. Results : EMG activity of vastus lateralis following the change of ankle joint angle was shown statistically significant difference. Conclusion : Ankle plantar flexion position increase EMG activity of vastus lateralis during knee extension exercise.
The Effect of Static Balance Recovery by Open Kinetic Chain and Closed Kinetic Chain Exercises

Purpose : This study was investigated the effect of static balance recovery during open kinetic chain exercise (OKC) and closed kinetic chain exercise(CKC). Methods : The paticipants were consisted of forty-one, was perform 3 sets, 3 times per week for 6 weeks, balance was measured by GOOD BALANCE. Statistical analysis was used repeated measure two-way ANOVA and independent t-test. Results : In CKC group, Center of presure(COP) medial-lateral(ML) velocity was significantly increased post 6 week test than pre-test, post 2 week test. COP anterior-posterior(AP) velocity was significantly increased post 6 week test than pre-test (p<.05). Conclusion : It was found that both OKC and CKC was significantly increased balance recovery in normal younng adults. In further study, it was suggested that was regard patient with muscle weakness.
The Correlation between Walter Reed Visual Analogue Scale(WRVAS) and Scoliosis Research Society-22(SRS-22) Questionnaire for Idiopathic Scoliosis

Purpose : Purpose of this study was to determine correlation between Walter Reed Visual Analogue Scale (WRVAS) and Scoliosis Research Society-22(SRS-22) questionnaire for idiopathic scoliosis. Methods : For this study, to assess reliability, 224 middle school female students were applied the WRVAS & SRS-22 questionnaire. Pearson correlation analysis was used to know correlationship between WRVAS and SRS-22 questionnaire. Regression analysis was used to know causation between WRVAS and SRS-22 questionnaire. Results Positive correlation(.248) was found between WRVAS score and SRS-22 score. And SRS-22 was shown positive correlation compared with WRVAS as a result slope of .078 Conclusion : The WRVAS questionnaire is reliable positive correlation with SRS-22 questionnaire. It is valid and may be useful for clinical evaluation of idiopathic scoliosis patients.
The Effects of High-heeled Shoes on Static Balance and EMG Activity of Lower Extremity Muscles for Young Women

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of high heeled shoes on the static balance and EMG activity of lower extremity muscles. Methods Twenty subjects were composed of control group(wearing low-heeled shoes) and experimental group(wearing high-heeled shoes). Two groups participated in bearfoot standing and measured static balance and EMG activity of lower extremity muscles. Balance Performance Monitor(BPM) was used to measure the static balance and FlexComp
was used to measure the EMG activity of lower extremity muscles. Results In static balance, sway area and path of experimental group was significantly larger than control group(p<0.05). And sway velocity of experimental group was significantly faster than control group(p<0.05). They means static balance of experimental group was significantly lower than control group(p<0.05). In EMG activity, L5 paraspinalis and biceps femoris of experimental group was significantly more increased than that of control group(p<0.05). Conclusion : The long-time experience in wearing high heeled shoes may have caused change in static balance and EMG activity of lower extremity muscles.
The Effects of Image Training and Vibration on Performance of Vertical Jumping

Purpose : The Purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of image training and vibration on performance of vertical jumping. Methods : Subjects was classified into two groups, which were image training group(n=20) and vibration application group(n=20). . Muscle strength was measured using vertical jump performance. Results : The vertical jump performance was significantly increased after image training and vibration application(p<.05), however, it was more significantly after image training(p<.05). Conclusion : This study showed that image training and vibration application were effective treatment strategy on increase of muscle strength. Therefore, it could be considered as a treatment method in the patients with musculoskeletal disease including fracture, chronic degenerative disease and disuse atrophy.
