An Improved Joint Bayesian Method using Mirror Image's Features
Han, Sunghyu ; Ahn, Jung-Ho ;
Journal of Digital Contents Society, volume 16, issue 5, 2015, Pages 671~680
DOI : 10.9728/dcs.2015.16.5.671
The Joint Bayesian method was published in 2012. Since then, it has been used for binary classification in almost all state-of-the-art face recognition methods. However, no improved methods have been published so far except 2D-JB. In this paper we propose an improved version of the JB method that considers the features of both the given face image and its mirror image. In pattern classification, it is very likely to make a mistake when the value of the decision function is close to the decision boundary or the threshold. By making the value of the decision function far from the decision boundary, the proposed method reduces the errors. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the JB and 2D-JB methods by more than 1% in the challenging LFW DB. Many state-of-the-art methods required tons of training data to improve 1% in the LFW DB, but the proposed method can make it in an easy way.

Supercomputers are used for many different areas including new product design of industries as well as state-of-the-art science and technology for large amount of computational needs. Tachyon is a 4th supercomputer built at KISTI that is a high-performance parallel computing system with 3,200 computing nodes and infrastructures. This system is currently about 10,000 users and over 170 organizations are used, the number of jobs they are performing work in batch type form through a scheduler. Also, this system logs lots of job scripts, execution environment, library, job status from the job submit to end. In this paper, we analyzed batch jobs information from Sun Grid Engine, that use as a scheduler in Tachyon system, and job executed information in Tachyon System. In particular, we distinguished the fail jobs from the all tasks that users perform and we analyzed the cause of failure. Among them, we can extracted some of jobs that can be regarded as normal jobs through the improvement in those works logged as all of fail jobs.

Oh, Dong-IL ;
Journal of Digital Contents Society, volume 16, issue 5, 2015, Pages 699~706
DOI : 10.9728/dcs.2015.16.5.699
Never Ending Story is an animation work about the stories of the Japanese Sex Slavery Victims who were taken by the Japanese military and forced to sexual slavery, which tormented them with painful memories all their lives. This animation work stimulates the critical perspectives of the audiences in order to ensure a history-based approach based on facts. And, unlike general character animation works which pursue immersion and empathy through illusion of life that are created by the characters, this work demands the audiences to contemplate on historical facts described in the work and make their own judgements. In order to serve these purposes, this work is characterized by its aesthetics properties and elements such as 'sympathy', 'typification', and 'alienation effect'. And, these elements effectively deliver the reality of historical facts that cannot be denied in a chronological narrative. Therefore, this study would sufficiently be of a value in reviewing the diversity in expression and the methodologies used in them, let alone the significance of the theme itself.

DOI : 10.9728/dcs.2015.16.5.717
Prostate images have been used in the diagnosis of prostate using TRUS images being relatively cheap. Ultrasound images are recorded with 3 dimension and one diagnostic exam is made with a number of the images. A doctor can see 2 dimensional images on the monitor sequentially and 3 dimensional ones to diagnose a disease. To display the images, 2-d images are used with raw 2-d ones, but 3-d images need to be segmented by the prostates and their backgrounds to be seen from different angles and with cut images of inner side. Especially on detecting the boundary, the ones in the middle of all images are easy to find the boundary but the base and apex of the images are hard to do it since there are lots of uncertain boundary. So, in this paper we propose the method that applies an average shape model and detects the boundary, and shows its superiority compared to the existing methods with experiments.

DOI : 10.9728/dcs.2015.16.5.775
EBS started 2HD MMS experimental broadcasting for the first time in Korea on Feb. 11, 2015. It uses the picture compression technique based on MPEG-2 CODEC, and applies the result of the experiment about variable bit rates and changes according to the scanning types, 1080i and 720p. But when changing channels, the delay in displaying picture occurs because of the operation of the variable GOP on MMS broadcasting, which optimizes image quality by application variable bit rates. In this study, verified the relationship between the decoding time of I frames and the GOP set in the encoding step by experimenting and analyzing ON-AIR TS. By using the verification data and adjusts the Encoder GOP parameters, improved the different video display time delays according to the scanning mode 1080i and 720p.

Kong, Soo-Kyung ;
Journal of Digital Contents Society, volume 16, issue 5, 2015, Pages 783~793
DOI : 10.9728/dcs.2015.16.5.783
TV display which existed only in house started to show up out of house around us and now it found naturally its place in everywhere like street, bus, subway and elevator. It is called digital signage which showed up through digitalization of sign, that is, sign board and bulletin board. The distinction of digital sign from existing signs is that the latter one should go through physical process like removal after installation every time its contents are changed but the former one can produce its various outputs flexibly once it is installed. Also existing sign may be static image or 2 or 3 pieces of image to express simple motion while digital sign can contain multi media contents luxurious in design and motion. This paper confined the range of contents in digital signage in bus and subway. It needs to analyze characteristics of mass transportation-people of use, consumer by place and time, accommodation environment for consumer etc and arrange planned contents along with time and place. Developments of dedicated contents suitable to those digital signages will harmonize with place and time and promote the realm of digital signage which provides variety of experience to consumer and with which communication is possible and which is distinctive. Furthermore we may expect the birth of smart signage as a new media, in which fun and art are combined.

Random Partial Haar Wavelet Transformation for Single Instruction Multiple Threads
Park, Taejung ;
Journal of Digital Contents Society, volume 16, issue 5, 2015, Pages 805~813
DOI : 10.9728/dcs.2015.16.5.805
Many researchers expect the compressive sensing and sparse recovery problem can overcome the limitation of conventional digital techniques. However, these new approaches require to solve the l1 norm optimization problems when it comes to signal reconstruction. In the signal reconstruction process, the transform computation by multiplication of a random matrix and a vector consumes considerable computing power. To address this issue, parallel processing is applied to the optimization problems. In particular, due to huge size of original signal, it is hard to store the random matrix directly in memory, which makes one need to design a procedural approach in handling the random matrix. This paper presents a new parallel algorithm to calculate random partial Haar wavelet transform based on Single Instruction Multiple Threads (SIMT) platform.

DOI : 10.9728/dcs.2015.16.5.815
By the growing of SMS phishing victims, applications for processing spam messages are being released in succession. However most spam messages that cleverly modified the content like separating the consonants and vowels are fail to be filtered. In this paper, we implemented an application 'AntiSpam' which is able to identify spam strings in the text message to solve this problem. 'AntiSpam' searches spam strings in the text message by using set-based POI search algorithm, and then calculate the possibility of whether it is spam or not in accordance with the search results. In addition, it catches skillfully disguised spam messages in order to avoid missing the spam filtering. Users, who received a message, can check the result in spam message possibility decision result and the contents of the message and they can choose how to handling the message.

DOI : 10.9728/dcs.2015.16.5.823
This study analysed motion graphic formative image composition of TV LED backdrop to be used as background display for performers such as singers appeared on TV music show. Motion graphic LED images are comprised of various plane figures, and backdrop's design function as background screen has a goal to convey synesthesia and sensibility of visual elements. And this analyse classified sensibility concept about color, motion direction and speed to be elements of transmitting sensibility. As the analyse of graphic form among transmitting sensibility elements, this classified form type into its' applied elements, and studied how these elements' motion pattern and arrangement could be placed and replaced at song's four step composition, intro, verse, bridge, chorus part, and also characterized differences of backdrop design for male and female performers. As a case study, it included terrestial broadcasting TV song ranking shows targeted at teenagers. Because they carried out various motion design utilizations. Finally, this reasoned out mainly designing form type, its' applied elements, motion pattern and its' arrangements type division according to the song developing four steps.

DOI : 10.9728/dcs.2015.16.5.835
Photo scanning can create point cloud and polygon models like 3D scanners bringing an object into the 3 dimensional world by combining several sheets of photographic information. The created data give us information about planes and sectional forms required for a 2 dimensional survey as well as 3 dimensional figures of buried cultural property. It requires a lot of time to record buried cultural property in the field, however, the photo scanning technique does not need additional equipment and manpower so the work may begin immediately while the property is protected. Moreover, it reduces financial burdens as it creates 3 dimensional data using images acquired by photography but provides the optimal condition to check 3 dimensional information quickly and easily.
A Study on the Promotion of the Characters in the Local Governments, Japan
Lee, Hwa-ja ; Kim, Gun ;
Journal of Digital Contents Society, volume 16, issue 5, 2015, Pages 849~869
DOI : 10.9728/dcs.2015.16.5.849
Since South Korean government pushed ahead with decentralization system in 1990s, each local government has developed 'local government's character' so that communication between local residents and between local government and residents could be going well for rural solidarity. Local governments have designed their sole symbolic characters, applied the characters to local specialities and tourist goods, and used the designed characters for the promotion of area. There is no difference between South Korea and Japan in the function of local government's character as above-mentioned details. However, 'Yuru-chara' characters which are designed by local governments in Japan are rising dramatically in the field of Japanese major characters. 'Yuru-chara' characters' name awareness is expanded to the entire area of Japan as well as the designed area. A remarkable difference in how to promote character rather than character design caused such a successful outcome. The local governments in Japan carried out a promotion for local residents in various, friendly, and active ways, utilized local government's character as a way to publicize the image of area, and turned the character into products to bring additional effects. In the above process, there was a remarkable difference between Japan and South Korea. The purpose of this study was to research detail data related to the characters of the local governments in Japan, to analyze the promotion of the characters, and to suggest a strategy for promoting the characters of the local governments in South Korea.
