A Study on the Planning Method of Public Pedestrian Spaces through Case Analysis

This study aims to propose the planning method of Public Pedestrian Spaces. Contemporary society makes a great feature of diversity that respect individual values and rhizome that consist of horizontal network structure. Now places are creative domain for the future and publicness gets new function that makes relationship among subjects, environmental elements and people. These makes a change in perception of public pedestrian spaces. First, we mark public streets down as a spaces for pedestrian's everyday lifes. Second, we recognize public pedestrian spaces as social and cultural spaces, not infra-structure. Third, public pedestrian spaces are recognized as fields of social network. Lastly, Public pedestrian spaces are recognized perennial process. Making public pedestrian spaces are not limited to improvement of specific element. Public pedestrian spaces should be constantly made by diverse subjects with mature civic awareness. Thus this study analyses the process and spatial features of public pedestrian spaces through case study. And this study proposes the planning method of public pedestrian spaces.
Analysis of Component Factor of Outlet Shopping Mall on Visitor Satisfaction and Revisit Intention by Structural Equation Model - Focused on Paju Shinsegae Chelsea Outlet -

This paper seeks to increase the understanding of the shopping experiences of visitors to outlet shopping mall in Shinsagae Chelsea Premium Outlet at Paju City, Gyeonggi-do. Ther purpose of this paver is to examine the phenomenon of Premium Outlet Malls. We examine the Shinsagae Chelsea Premium Outlet at Paju City, Gyeonggi-do, while placing them against the development of the outlet mall industry. Outlet malls are an important part of the new retail landscape. This study research classifies as each season and looks into this feature according to the standard meaningful the introduction and Spatial Transition Process of Outlets Shopping Mall, Since the beginning of 1980 until recently in the last 30 years. In addition, the paper analyze the Element of the premium outlet across demographics. It explores seven critical factors which significantly influence customers' perceptions of premium outlet. Findings are base on a mall intercept survey with 292 respondents across a range of demographics. The main implication of these findings is that factory outlet stores are perceived favorably and that they need to build more positive marketing strategies accordingly.
An Evaluation of the Breach Facilities through Universal Design Principles - Focused on Beaches Located in Busan -

The purpose of the study is the evaluation of the beach public facilities located in Busan through using universal design principles. The methods of the study are literature study, field study, and photos. The field study was done during June and July 2011. Additional study was finished on August 2011 to supplement the data. The result of the study is that very low percentage of the public facilities in five beaches in Busan(Haeundae beach 66%, Gwang-an beach 64%, Songdo beach 61%, Songjung beach 59%, Dadaepo beach 52%) is shown. Especially, guidance(33%), a makeshift stage/beach(39%), and others(35%) indicated very low percentage. Each beach showed the following fields under fifty percentage; Haeundae beach-shower/locker room 49% and a makeshift stage/beach 55%, Gwangan beach-guidance 52% and others 44%, Songjung beach- guidance 37%, others 39%, shower/locker room 56%, and a makeshift stage/beach 57%, Songdo beach-others 37%, transportation 49%, a makeshift stage/beach 55%, and guidance 57%, Dadaepo beach-guidance 33%, a makeshift stage/beach 39%, others 39%, and walkway 52%. Therefore, the improvement and supplementation of these fields are immediately needed. Parking lots for five beachs are shown in particular beach areas causing traffic jam around the beach and approach congestion to the beach. This is threaten to the disabled to approach the beach and shown to safety problem to the disabled. Conclusion is that the necessary of multi-story parking lots for the beach and consideration of universal design concept in the public facilities are positively required.
An Analysis on Medical Housing Welfare of the Elderly Focused on Homepage of Municipalities

The purpose of this study was to analyze the medical housing welfare of the elderly focused on homepage of municipalities. Documentary research and content analysis methods were used in this study. Data drawn from internet homepage of each municipalities which were 251 cases, they have conducted various medical care. The major results of this study were as follows; 1) The current elderly population is growing constantly but dependent elderly consciousness is dwindling. Specially, the elderly who lives in rural area have health problems compared with urban areas. 2) Community health center of municipalities conduct medical aid, health screenings, dementia management etc.. 3) It is needed that medical service considering aging in place linked in general hospitals and health centers, and community linkages are provided.
A Study on the Type and Characteristics of Pedestrian Nodes in Mixed-use Buildings - Case Study of Mixed-use Buildings in Seoul -

The purpose of this study is to analyze the type and characteristics of pedestrian nodes on Mixed-use buildings through a case study. The study was based on the selected mixed-use buildings located in the center of Seoul and the following approaches were used: First of all, the pedestrian nodes distribution was investigated through the analysis of status and floor plan. Secondly, the nodes were classified into five types by the number of passage connections. Thirdly, the five planning elements for escalator, E/V, horizontal open space, vertical open space, and doorway, which are connected to the nodes, were researched and the connections were classified into five types. Lastly, the correlation between the nodes and planning elements was investigated. Through the study, the following conclusions are drawn: First of all, the node types are divided into five types: angled, T-shaped, cross, radial, and vertical cross type. Secondly, T-shaped nodes have the highest percentage among the types. Thirdly, the ratio of the horizontal nodes and the vertical cross nodes are 52.8%, 47.2% respectively, and the vertical cross nodes have the highest connection ratio with plan elements.
A Direction of Planning Public Design on the Harbour and Waterfront - A Case Study on HafenCity Hamburg and Cardiff Bay Wales -

The purpose of this paper was to explore how to plan a direction of public design on the harbour and waterfront that enlivens the placeness and utilizes the advantage of harbour and waterfront, potentially valued for expanding urban infrastructure and supplying lands. Analyzing the case of HafenCity Hamburg and Cardiff Bay Wales that succeeded in making public architecture and public space with waterfront development, this study suggested the ways to public design on the waterfront. This paper reviews an assessment of how it adapts affect and exploits an existing urban pattern and concludes with the establishment of the public design: the impacts of the factors contributing to urban development and the evidence of their effects on the waterfront; the largest master-planned waterfront development featured public cultural-leisure architecture as it seeks to revive a former industrial and waterfront site; the extent to cultural and leisure input to the waterfront area in proportion to public openspace, esplanad and pedestrian districts.
A Study on Formation and Spacial Transformation of the Tianzifang in Shanghai

This study is targeted at Tianzifang among city regeneration district in Shanghai in China attempts to analyze physical, characteristics of space appeared on Tianzifang after middle of 20th. For this study, we had three times site survey and experimental study. As a results of this study, Tianzifang, residential District, formed in 1920's hold together with factories and modern buildings through the period of innovation in Shanghai, and a singular residential district added artistic creating space with cultural and commercial function. Thus, Tianzifang was changed as mixed-used residential district. Tianzifang is a specific case that was regenerated as 'Horizontal' high-density commercial culture district in contrast of vertical high-density commercial area.
The Smart Service Pattern-Oriented Kitchen Using the Behavior Patterns of the Elderly according to the Aging Steps

The elderly feel discomfort in the kitchen due to aging. To solve these problems, this study suggests smart service patterns considering the aging steps of the elderly in the kitchen. Behavior pattern of the elderly is important to suggest these smart service patterns. Therefore, the suggested service patterns based on the behavior patterns of the elderly in the kitchen are classified by the period of independence, semi-dependence, and fully dependence. In period of full independence, the smart services of the kitchen are needed in more types and dependency. The results of this study were as follows ; 1)The service pattern of SV1 is Fire/gas leak detection
convenience service. This pattern is aimed at solving potential problems that may occur during cook and having a meal. 2)The service pattern of SV4 is temperature/humidity control

remote control/time. This pattern offers healthcare and controls the interior environmental conditions. This study implies a new perspective to design smart kitchen that would encompass security, healthy, convenience for the elderly.
An Analysis of the Relationship between Financial Technology Market Variables and Housing Prices by Type of Housing Using VECM

The recent global financial crisis led to international downturn of real estate and housing market and Korean economy was no exception to phenomenon. Therefore, it is necessary to provide effective means of domestic housing policy for resolving this situation. And it is possible by performing structural diagnosis of the relationship between housing price and other investment asset variables. However, there is a lack of previous research on that subject, so this paper considered housing as an investment asset and analyzed the relationship between housing purchase price index, housing 'Jeonse' price index, and major investment assets in financial technology market by constructing a vector error correction model to compensate for that lack. Based on the analysis results the factors have been identified, and the results are as follows. Types, extent, and fluctuation of financial technology related variables affecting housing price were different by type of housing. And there was a difference in perception by type of housing as a asset growth way and an actual living space. In addition, there were some conflicting results with previous studies. It is considered that it reflects recent changes in housing market.
A Study on the Factor of Change in the Area Ratio of the Local Public Libraries

The purpose of this study is to arrive at a conclusion by analyzing the change in the area ratio responding to polish and management in the libraries, and the want of residents during the area changing from the beginning of the public libraries in Busan. For the study, the floor plan of the targeted libraries were secured to investigate the existing state of the libraries, and the current and the beginning floor plan were compared and analyzed. Also, changing shape of each function room, area change in each room and floor, change in the entire floor area, and movement among floors were researched to figure the actual condition of the reorganizing of the space allocation ratio. It suggests the factors that should be examined to reorganize the area ratio of the public library in Busan when planning the libraries. This study emphasizes the pattern of the architectural spacial change that occurs when a public library serves its role as a central function in cultural education of a community while analyzing the program of the public library and the space change that is followed by current social role of public library and functional change, and gives the resources to be make use of when planing library in the future.
A Case Study of Architectural Design Education based on Discovery Learning

This study aims to find a characteristics and problems of "discovery learning" methods in architectural design education through the case study of AA School's typical design unit and one of the design studio of Y university in Korea. As a results, these kind of teaching method is necessary in terms of diversification of architectural education, but before we apply the method, following points should be considered in advance; (1) attitude and ability of students, (2) duration of the design project, (3) capability of tutors, (4) design process and level of the final outputs. And these kind of teaching method is suitable for; (1) one or two semesters that the degree of the final completion is relatively less important, (2) senior grade studio. Moreover, a detailed orientation about the studio is necessary before the selection and beginning of the studio.
A Research on the Development of the Space Efficiency Analysis Program of Office Space Usability and its Comparative Evaluations

This Research has been conducted as a part of the Research on the Development of Green Vertical Urban City. A series of preceding research for the development of a Space Efficiency Analysis Program has been conducted, and this research is focused on the actual application and evaluation with the case study. L-Tower project is selected since it has had numerous conceptual design studies for the final design selection process. Since different forms of the tower have been studied based on the same quantitative space requirement and evaluated only based on their aesthetic point view, this project offers a good opportunity to evaluate the alternatives in quantitative analysis. The results of the analysis are summarized in three categories. The first is the comparison of space efficiency ratio of each alternatives based on the shape of the typical floor plan. The second is the planning issues based on the first result. And the third is the conversion of the efficiency rate into the financial implication to give clearer understanding of the comparative study and the results to the decision-makers of the project.
Changes in the Planning Principles of Korean High-Rise Residential Buildings - Comparative Analysis with High-Rise Residential Buildings of America -

Forty years after the very first apartments were built in Korea in the early 1960s, the Korean construction industry witnessed the construction of high-rise residential buildings of over 50 storeys in 2002. eventually leading to even higher residential buildings of over 300 meters in 2011. For structural performance, such high-rise residential buildings come in the form of towers, as opposed to the flat, plate-like forms of the conventional apartments that have been built in Korea for nearly half a century. Because of this dramatic change in the building form, one can expect the spatial layout of the inner spaces have changed accordingly. By comparatively analyzing the layouts of unit plans of high-rise residential buildings between Korea and America, we were able to find dramatic changes in the planning principles of Korean projects, where early projects adopted planning principles of the previous plate-like apartments, in comparison to the later projects that more or less resemble the American projects. To objectively determine whether a unit plan resembles another or not, we used quantitative methods that utilize Space Syntax and statistical analysis such as ANOVA.
A Study on the Actual Condition and the Needs of Townhouse Remodeling Designed by the Foreign Architect - Focused on Worlden Hills 2 in Pangyo Seongnam -

This study is carried out to investigate remodeling action in the town houses which were evaluated the innovated and challengeable housing type in the international competition. Research was done mainly through interviews and measurement and literature review. The intention of these housing design is to protect residents' privacy with promoting community activities. The similar remodeling action to the literary survey is the extending living room's and the other room's area by getting rid of adjacent balcony in the 1st and 3rd floor. But the remarkable remodeling actions are various devices for the privacy in the 2nd reception hall and the clearing away of bathroom in the 1st floor to adjust the unfamiliar housing type designed by foreign architect who doesn't know korean life style well. Still two problems exist. One is heating issue caused by using too many glass walls. The other is the lack of landscape in the granite finishing of public deck for the community. For these two problems special solution should be developed with mutual agreement of residents because of exterior matters.
Meaning of the Verticality and the Horizontality in David Chipperfield's Architecture

Chipperfield's architecture seems to be typical minimalism architecture. Simple architecture-oriented attitude and design method also seems to be minimal. However, his architecture is not simple, it is also not minimal. The architecture is rather light than simple, rather expressive than minimal. His proposals seem to be naive, but it is full of paradox. Chipperfield adjustment of the vertical and horizontal flip through the building, creates a mask. The mask, a blank symbol, is a kind of place many other symbols as a place to sit down to. So, regional symbols, even different cultural characteristics, could be captured with the mask. That is the way Chipperfield's architecture makes unique.
A Comparative Study on the Changing Features about Components of a Walled City in Ulsan Area under the Period of Japanese Occupation - Concentrating on Ulsan Eup-seong and Gyoengsang-Jwabyeongyoungseong -

The goal of this research based on Ulsan area under the rule of Japanese imperialism is to find out how the change of urban function have influenced to the city by analyzing the phase of change in population, land use and facilities which are the basic elements of urban construction. The result shows that until the time of analysis, the change of urban function has remained the same in terms of daily life of urban characteristics from the past whereas there is huge difference in application of land use, facilities and infrastructure.
A Study of Figure Errors in Tadashi Sekino's "Report of Korean Architecture (韓國建築調査報告)" - Focused on Jungheungsa(重興寺), Shinheungsa(新興寺) and Cheongnyangsa(淸凉寺) -

Tadashi Sekino(1868-1935) had visited Korea for researching ancient architecture and historical heritages in Busan, Gyeongju, Hapcheon, Gaeseong and Seoul during 62 days in 1902. After research, he had wrote A Research Report of Korean Architecture at Tokyo Imperial University, which is evaluated very important academic resource to study Korean Architecture in the 1900s. However, the contents such as pictures and descriptions have not been examined until now. Especially, the pictures have been quoted uncritically. Therefore lots of errors which were not verified caused follow-up studies to be confused. This study proved the errors which the pictures of Jungheungsa temple(重興寺), Shinheungsa temple(新興寺, Heungcheonsa 興天寺) and Cheongnyangsa temple(淸凉寺) are inserted erroneously. Besides it is presumed that Tadashi Sekino seemed to use his field-note which had recorded from field survey than pictures to write a report. In conclusion, this study assumed the actual existence and location of Geungnakbojeon(極樂寶殿) in Jungheungsa temple(重興寺) by investigation of the above-mentioned writing method.

bel had enormous impacts on early modernist architects. This study thus set out to investigate connections between the architectural works of Le Corbusier and the play-based education of Fr
bel through comparison and reilluminate the architectural works of Le Corbusier, who has much influence on modern architecture. The five main findings were as follows: first, Le Corbusier applied the architectural play of 126.96.36.199 Spielgabe to his architectural works with more interest in the process of their cubes converging into each box rather than the play itself. Second, the way he placed a core at the center and a unit space in the surroundings in the plane of his early works is similar to the aesthetic form that emphasizes centrality in the pattern play of Spielgabe. The Ritual Process of Royal Funeral Rites of Joseon Dynasty and its Spatial Use - Focused on the Case of JeongJo's Funeral Rites -

Royal funeral was not only the most biggest accident that made emotional shock to the people and also the important political event. So it needed the strict ritual norm and long time. However the most important feature of this ceremony was the uncertainty of schedule. Actually King's death was the accidence itself. They could not fix the date beforehand. All process of Royal funeral rites could start at that time of King's death and it needed the urgent preparation and spatial setting. This paper is on the preparation and progression of Royal ritual ceremony and its spatial use. Also it's about how they can solve the urgency of process. I have to check and analyse Gukjo-Oreyi(國朝五禮儀) and Gukjo-SangreBopeon(國朝喪禮補編) as the basic law for funeral ceremony and King Jeongjo's funeral rites as the actual case with four official record books. There were broad discussion for Royal funeral rites and that ceremony needed diverse facilities such as King's death place(昇遐所), mortuary(殯殿), tablet shrine(魂殿), tomb grave, T-shape pavilion(丁字閣), Sudogak(隧道閣), Yeongak-jeon(靈幄殿), Jaesil (齋室), GilyuGumg, Ong'ga(甕家) and so on. And also some more facilities for the auspicious ceremony(吉禮) of Ruyal shrine(宗廟), SeonwonJeon(璿源殿) and several JinJeon(眞殿) were needed. In this condition, those bureaus of BinJeonHonJeon-Dogam(殯殿魂殿都監), Gukjang-Dogam(國葬都監) and San'neung-Dogam(山陵都監) did their own tasks and sometimes they cooperated together for most important task. It was for the solving the urgency of Royal funeral rites.
A Study on the Urban Historical Meaning of the City Wall in Gaegyeong, the Capital of the Goryeo Dynasty

This paper is to clarify on the urban historical characteristics of the city wall in Gaegyeong, the capital of the Goryeo Dynasty, based on a study of the location of the city wall and gates, the relationship of the exited roads and the gates, administrative districts and its division guide lines. The results of this study are as follows; Firstly, construction of city wall have transformed the spacial structure of Gaegyeong. Secondly, the city wall, while maintaining existing roads and urban structure was built. Finally, administrative district of the Gaegyeong were divided based on the geographic conditions, were also located outside the city wall. It shows that Gaegyeong, without limitation of the city wall could be expanded and changed.
Research on the Urban Bicycle Transportation Facilities and Information Services - Focused on the Enhancement of Bicycle Transportation Facilities in the Old Town of Inchon -

This research focuses on the enhancement of urban bicycle transportation facilities and information service method for the urban bike, which considers the safe use of bike path and convenient use of bicycle parking in the city. Although a law enforcement on the use of bike had been established at 1995, bike paths were not designed to create a exclusive path for bike use. The rate of bike accidents surpassed the rate of bike usage. In response to this existing situation, this study proposes an enhanced design guideline of the bike path in Incheon old city area, through the analysis of the existing bike path. For the safety and convenience, the bike path should provide the priority of crossing for bike users, and service facilities such as transit parking space, rest area, and service station, and information services that shares road situation such as slope, road width, and intersection configuration. This paper will provide a method that enhances the physical configuration of existing bike path and propose an exclusive bike path design, an environmentally friendly bike parking design, a web-base information technology, and RFID system that enables automatic rental system.
An Analysis of the Different using Time of the Commercial Plot in the Housing Development Area according to the Space Allocation

The purpose of this study was to analyze the different time of building construction according to the land quality index of the housing development area and to predict the probability of selling commercial plot. A binary logistic regression model and multiple linear regression model were used with the data which were obtained by the gyeonggi-do realestate information system. The sample size was above
and built recently in gyoenggi-do. The results of this study were as follows; probability of selling plot was affected by size, space allocation type in the housing development area.
An Analysis Study of Thermal Performance of Temperable Double Low-E Glass Window

Low-e glazing is classified as soft low-e glazing and hard low-e glazing. Hard low-e glazing can be temperable and its handling is comfortable because its coating film is a oxide film generated at high temperatures. But there is a fatal weakness that its insulation performance and shielding performance are lower compared to soft low-e glazing by low electrical conductivity of coating film. Soft low-e glazing is excellent because its coating film consists of Ag that is excellent electrical conductivity and it has strength that can supply various product consumers want. But soft low-e glazing has weaknesses that temperable and handling are difficult because Ag is oxidized easily. Therefore this study analyzes thermal performance of glazing by changing filling gas according to applying low-e glazing through simulation to judge performance before making sample. And then we produced test specimens and measured surface temperature of windows using TVS(Thermal Video System) and thermocouples. Finally we conducted experiment of thermal performance of an actual window composed most effective materials according to the result of analysing each element. As a result, we confirmed that the thermal performance of the window composed most effective materials was improved up to about 40% compared to general single low-e windows.
The Design through Mechanical Engineering/Fire Protection VE Case Study

Recently, the bigger and higher buildings have become the more complex some areas of mechanical engineering have also become. When a building is being constructed, building structure beams, ducts & pipes and electric pipes can become tangled or mixed-up. Valve Engineering process can solve these problems. The object of Value Engineering (VE) is to optimize the performance and cost of a construction component in a facility. In Korea, the government wants to use VE for large scale building projects. We obtained data about VE proposals from a Mechanical Engineering/Fire Protection Case study that was conducted during five years from 2007 to 2011. The data from 35 cases were analyzed by year, purpose, location and adaptation. There were 252 VE proposals stemming from the 35 cases and the number of VE proposals increased every year. The largest number of VE proposals arose in connection with HVAC. In particular, it was revealed that cost savings related to heating systems were significant.
Application and Improvement of the Renewable Energy Management System in Existing Buildings

This study aims to investigate the development state of the existing renewable energy management systems and the usage of those systems and, to make suggestions for the system improvement. To do this, a field survey was conducted, targeting the buildings with renewable energy management systems. The findings demonstrated that the geothermal heat system was not associated with conventional heat sources and failed to react to the heating demand actively. In the case of photovoltaic system, the communication protocols vary depending on the manufacturers, and the monitoring algorithm needs to be improved. Most energy management systems have established a data base, yet not utilize that for the analysis. Building managers lacked the basic knowledge about energy management systems. Through the study, the necessity of the development of the multiple energy source management system featured with optimal load distribution control, a linkage with BEMS, prediction of production leveraging DB, and the establishment of operation schedule in response to the demand was confirmed.
An Evaluation of External Shading Device Installed on the Office Building in Low Latitude

This study is regarding the application of external shading device in the low-latitude region and proposes a design method, which includes all of the design processes ranging from architecture to energy evaluation. The proposed design method of optimized external shading device is applied to an actual office building in Jakarta, Indonesia. Finally, building's annual cooling load and energy savings rate after the shading device installation have been calculated. The method of study is, (1) to identify external environmental conditions through climate analysis, (2) to set a baseline model that satisfies the basic conditions of Greenship and to analyze the cooling load, (3) to analyze annual solar gain and solar shading effects of each direction for the shading device's performance evaluation, (4) to propose optimal shading device through case study by type, (5) to provide quantitative of both analysis of the building's cooling load with the optimized shading device installed and the effect of energy savings through energy simulation.
Whole Building Energy Simulation using Bayesian Stochastic Calibration

Building simulation has become increasingly important in assessing potential energy savings in buildings. It has been widely acknowledged that many inputs are under strong uncertainty and this causes significant differences between the simulation prediction and the reality. For calibrating the model, there are generally three approaches: manual (trial and error), deterministic, stochastic. This paper reports the last approach so called Bayesian calibration technique. The technique has been widely accepted in other domains as a powerful tool to estimate the posterior distribution of uncertain inputs based on the measured outputs. In this study, an building was selected and unknown parameters were identified. The Bayesian calibration was conducted in four steps: (1) determination of prior probability distributions for uncertain parameters. (2) Markov Chain Monte Carlo method for estimating posterior distributions, (3) validation of the model. It is concluded that the Bayesian calibration can be successfully used to improve accuracy of simulation prediction and reduce uncertainty of the model.
