A Study on the Residents' Evaluation for the Component of High-Rise and High-Density Apartment Community

The purpose of this study is to find the evaluation method for apartment residential environment, where residents can continuously reside and be satisfied. The components of apartment community are identified with physical, social and managerial factors. Field survey was carried out on four apartments in Haeundae New Town in Busan and questionnaire survey was conducted on the residents of those apartments. Residents' evaluation on community components are analyzed and compared with each other so that relationship between community components and overall residential satisfaction is figured through regression analysis. The results of survey research are as follows. 1) Subjects are more satisfied with landscaping and natural environment than the facilities built on the estates among the physical factors. 2) Subjects are dissatisfied with most items in social factors. 3) Subjects are more satisfied with managerial factors related to management of the daily living than those related to that of the apartment organizations. 4) The components of apartment community are significantly correlated with the residential satisfaction. Dairy living services are also most effective to residential satisfaction. On conclusion, it is necessary to pay more attention to the management of residents' living services; to activate residents' participation in community activities; to develop of various community programs and design the outdoor sports facilities and the entertaining places in order to create sustainable and healthy residential environment in apartments.
Deteriorated Hillside Residents' Needs and Preferences for Housing Estate Regeneration According to Level of Household Income - Focused on the Seoul Metropolitan Region -

This study was conducted to investigate housing needs and preferences for housing renewal among residents in deteriorated hillside according to level of household income. A cross-sectional survey was used and the data were collected in February 2012. Participants were 1,746 residents who had lived in hillside or flat areas in Seoul, Korea. Residential satisfaction, housing needs and preferences for housing renewal, and general characteristics such as level of household income were surveyed using self-reported questionnaires. Participants were categorized by level of household income as lowest-income class, low-income class, and middle-income class. Collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, factor analysis, cluster analysis, One-way ANOVA and Regression using the SPSS 18.0 program. The findings are as follows. Major satisfaction factors were different among income level groups in hillside residents. Community facilities and the parking condition in lowest-income group, supporting facilities in low-income group, and economic efficiency and safety in middle-income group were the major factors. Lowest-income residents in hillside preferred to promote housing renewal projects and regulatory support system than residents in flat area. These results may be useful to plan hillside neighborhoods and houses. Further research is required to improve the design guidelines and to reform regulations for practical designing.
A Study on Prototype for Using the Temporary Housing Space in Subway in the Event of Disaster

In Korea as a ceasefire nation, the specific disasters, such as war, are always around the corner. According to the expansion of crisis consciousness against war due to the explosion sinking of Cheonan Vessel and the artillery attack on Yeonpyeong Island, it has been emerged serious the notion that it is needed to construct the appropriate underground evacuation space for protecting the people's safety in response to the military assault from North Korea, so the related interest on environment construction has been enhance among people. Accordingly, by analyzing the characteristics and spaces in subway around Seoul City, this study tries to present a facility plan including the space prototype needed to use the subway spaces as one of the temporary housing in time of disaster in future.
An Analysis on the Envelope of the Glased Balcony Space in Middle European Multi-Family Housing Since 1990

The purpose of this study was to analyze the envelope of the glazed balcony space in the middle european multi-family housing to illuminate the characteristics of the envelope of the glazed balcony regarding its composition types of glass envelope, balustrade and awning. A available list for the european case studies from the multi-family housing of Germany, Switzerland and Austria since the 90s was used to demonstrate the new phenomenon in conncection with the glased balcony and its envelope composition. The results of this study were as follows; the users prefer the balcony with its original form as a exterior space, but to use it as wintergarden and to protect themselves from vehicle noise, wind and pollution of the automobile they install the glass envelope in their balcony space. The opening types for the glass envelope are the sliding-hinged, folding and swing types with its specially high opening rate to keep the balcony as a exterior space. The composition types of balustrade and awning by their material and colors contain an wide variety which is responsibel for the multifarious apperance of the facade.
A Study on Form Generation Methodology Using Parametric Constraints - Focused on the Irregular Shaped Skyscraper -

Advances in the technology of Design Computation are giving architects and engineers the opportunity to analyze the buildings with complex geometries. This paper explores the parametric design method and digital tools used to achieve the form generation and descriptive representation for curved shaped skyscrapers. In this paper, we discuss some of the parametric design techniques of dimensional and geometric constraints using the Knowledge-ware scripts embedded in Gehry Technologies' Digital Project. The research uses Gehry Technologies' Digital Project most useful commercial programs of parametric and associate design among today's CAD/CAE/CAM applications to apply a concurrent parametric design methodology, approaching the project from both "bottom-up" (building initiated by the assembly of smallest elements) and "top-down" (building from partial modifications on a pre-determined whole), to present a new design process for realization of non-orthogonal towers.
The Application Status and Suggestions for Improvement of Barrier-Free Planning Concept in the Shared Spaces of Apartment Housing in First-Town of Sejong City

This study aims to grasp the actual condition of applying barrier-free planning concept and propose an improvement plan on problems as basic data to be used for directional guide in future designs and plans of a barrier-free housing complex, on the subject of the "First Town" apartment housing at Sejong city, which played a pivotal role in enforcing barrier-free living environment certification for construction and make-up. A document research method was used to understand the basic concept, specific planning concept, and the relevant laws and regulations of barrier free. After observing the advanced research, the check-list was made accordance with the improvement law of facility and advanced research. Case studies were used to analyze the application status based on the planning concept of barrier free space in the shared spaces of apartment housing by using the check-list. In conclusion, this study found that 'Accessibility' and 'Safety' were primarily applied to the housing complex as well as the building plan. However, concept of 'Distinguishment' showed a very low application level. This study shows that these results will be utilized as guidelines for planning of apartment housing applied the Barrier-Free Planning Concept.
A Study of Public Discourse on Dongdaemun Design Plaza by Network Analysis - Focused on Newspaper Articles -

The purpose of this study was to examine public discourse on the Dongdaemun Design Plaza project by analysing the newspaper articles related with the project. After collecting 450 articles from the 9 newspapers for 65 months, the map of 99 words were created by network analysis especially during 3 peaks each. The primary issues about the preservation of the old stadium, the restoration of historical remains, and excess expenditures for municipal construction works were discussed during each peak. The issues were actually related with the specific building design. However, the building in the newspaper articles was treated as a whole, so it was not considered as the object which was modifiable as a part. There were few articles which treated the building design and there were few articles in which the building issues were connected with the primary issues. Finally, when the project was branded as 'big-ticket municipal construction works' in the latter part of the project, public discourse about the issue was far away from design issues. All these aspects could be catched with network analysis synthetically.
A Study of an Exhibitions Space Analysis According to Visitor's Cognition

At the exhibition space of open plan, it is vague to set the standard to separate the exhibition space. Because of that, there has been lots of difficulties on the quantitative analysis of the open plan exhibition areas. This study was to research and suggest the separating method of the exhibition space based on the exhibit using Voronoi polygon which is a mathematical / geometric concept. The position of cells is decided by applying the viewing distance from the exhibit regarding the exhibit in the existing exhibition space as coordinates. Targeting Gwacheon National Science Museum where is composed with exhibition space of open plan and various exhibits, this study tried to analyze the exhibition space applying Voronoi polygon. The space that required through the Voronoi diagram was applied to the block space analysis which was the phase analysis of the space syntax. Through this way, this study induced the result of the quantitative analysis at the open plan exhibition space. Through these methods, it seeks the availability on the methodology of this study.
Key Factors Affecting BIM Acceptance in Construction

Although many researchers and practitioners are in agreement about the potential applicability and benefit of BIM in construction, it is still unclear why BIM is adopted, and what factors enhance adoption and implementation of BIM. Thus, the mechanism of BIM acceptance and use remains in question. Therefore, this paper aims to identify the key factors affecting the acceptance of BIM in construction organizations, and analyze the effect of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factor on BIM acceptance. The key factors for BIM acceptance are identified through a literature review in TAM (Davis 1989) and related theories, and consolidated by interviews and pilot studies with professionals in construction industry. Based on the factors, a questionnaire was designed and sent out to construction organizations such as contractors, architects, and engineers in Korea. Using factor analysis, key factors were grouped into five dimensions. And using multi regression analysis, we analyzed relationship between key factors and BIM acceptance. These findings will clarify what the highly prioritized factors are, and can also be used in an assessment tool for the performance of BIM utilization.
A Study on the Elderly Housing Facilities to Improve the Quality of Life for the Aged - Focused on the College/University Linkage in Retirement Communities -

Recently the importance of the elderly facilities is on the rise, due to the rapid increase of the aged population. One of the major trends appeared in retirement communities of advanced countries is social integration which has been considered as a promising future direction of elderly housing development. Then the purpose of this study was to propose design guideline for retirement communities to improve the quality of life for the aged through understanding the characteristics of college/university based retirement communities in USA and Japan. Data were collected through mainly web site and literature reviews. Four cases-Oak Hammock at the University of Florida, University Commons at the University of Michigan, Village at Penn State and Sunshine Plaza at Fukuoka Dental College- were selected for this research as successful cases. This study found that University based Retirement Communities give many benefits to baby boomer and University. UBRCs' members can access university's facilities and university provides a life-long learning experience and other programs. This study about UBRCs is expected to provide a implication in developing elderly housing of Korea.
A Study on the Environment Improvement Project for the Main Gate Area of Urban Campus Universities - Focused on the Case Study of a 4-year University in Seoul -

Depending on the needs of the times, the university has seen a lot of changes. The main gate area of university is a space that many changes are required for most of the increase in vehicle use, especially of changes in environmental conditions around. Many universities were carried out the project to improve the environment of main gate area in order to solve this problem. But many aspects are missing on the results of the project. The purpose of this study was to analyze the case of the environment improvement project for the main gate area of campus and to classify the type of environmental improvement of the main gate and to evaluate user's satisfaction corresponding to each type. This Study presents a scheme that allows it to minimize the problems that occur during the Improvement of Environment for the Main Gate Area, get the high user's satisfaction.
A Study on the Comprehensive Planning of Global Campus Based on Characteristics of Program

In this rapidly changing environment in the 21st century, countries around the world interact closely with one another to respond to changes. As the home of knowledge, universities are exercising more influence on the state and local communities than before as well as being asked to come up with new requirements to respond to such changes. The study aims to derive new concept of sustainable global campus planning based on theories and researches of university facilities planning and campus planning to respond to university's needs for sustainable growth, enhanced competitiveness and globalization. For global university campus, it is hard to find related research. Therefore, through this study analyzes the types and characteristics of global campuses, and redefines the elements of its architectural planning. Design elements drawn by centered architectural design are classified and patterned, and this research presents the new concept of campus planning by introducing Pattern Language. The proposed planning method of global campus is used the method of combining Pattern Language. This is a new concept of campus planning methods as a prototype, and in the further study, a variety of examples and detailed sector research is required.
A Survey Study on the Maul-Mandulgi Project Based on Ordinance - Focusing on the Understanding of the Municipalities -

The purpose of this reasearch is to find a better idea for maul mandulgi ordinance by analyze the current condition of application of Maul-mandulgi project which based on relative ordinance of municipalities in Korea. Questionnaire was chosen as methodology to clarify the perception of municipalities, and the survey was classified as 1) application of maul-mandulgi project 2) selection of maul-mandulgi project 3) Role and the relative importance of each agent 4) task and improvement part. The result of this article showed that maul mandulgi application still need to improve for project application stages and the relationship structures for decision making within agents. However, most of municipalities have recognized necessity of a unit for maul-mandulgi and effective system for support, and it may be regarded as possibilities of improvement.
Ambient Urban Media Composition for Sustainable Lifestyle of Smart Green City - Based on the User Interaction with Visualization of Indoor Air Pollution -

This research proposes the framework of ambient urban media that can affect the user lifestyle through the nudge effect rather than relying on suppliers-centered data visualization. To verify how the lifestyle changes by using ambient urban media, we choose a place vulnerable to the misuse by users within the university campus as a reduced version of urban public space. Because the corridor is used as a public space by many unspecified people within building, eco-villain tends not to spontaneously clean up the space like urban public spaces. In order to construct the nudge environment, air pollution detecting sensors are installed within the indoor space, and visual messages are sent to the students via diverse visualization of interactive physical model when the air quality deteriorates. In addition, we will testify how much the framework of ambient urban media can affect sustainable behavior. Positive results will be applied to the public urban sculpture planning and individual assistant system for sustainable lifestyle.
A Study on the Development Directions of Detail Drawings for Sustainable Architecture

The purpose of this study is to apply component technologies and systems of sustainable architecture to building designs, by establishing a foundation of integrated design for sustainable building with developing the detail drawings. This paper firstly establishes the development directions of detail drawings for sustainable architecture after analyzing existing classification systems and compositions of standard detail drawings and detail drawings for sustainable architecture. Secondly, Classification systems of detail drawings for sustainable architecture should be proposed as a hybrid system consisting of hierarchical systems for categories of detail drawings by location parts, insulation location(external/intermediate/internal), materials and construction methods, regional standards, and parallel systems for categories of detail drawings by jointed parts. Thirdly, Compositions of detail drawings for sustainable architecture should be proposed as comparison of functions, basic material composition according to the legal minimum standards of the heat transmission coefficient, suggestions for the thermal performance of excellent grade level of green building certification system, alternatives for the reduction of environmental impacts, check list for selections of detail drawings or alternatives, environmental impact analysis, charts related to waste, and summarized specifications for sustainable architecture. Finally, it proposes the development process and management system of detail drawings for sustainable architecture.
A Study on the Planning of the Daycare Center for Children Under Three in France - Survey of the Daycare Center for Children Under Three in Paris -

Korean society has been facing a low birth rate, and now it becomes a serious social problem. Main reason causing a low birth rate in Korea, is that many Korean parents have a hard time to find nannies or daycare centers to take care of their babies, while they are at work. Now that is the one of the urgent problem that Korean government and the town and the city government should find the solution for. In France, the birth rate and the rate of the female economic activities are much higher than any other countries. It is because of the French government has been paying so much attention on building the social systems for childcare and their education. The main parts of the childcare systems and the education systems are supporting the daycare center financially and organizing the proper management systems. This study is to analyze the how the buildings of the French daycare center has been planned in terms of the architectural types and the characteristics of their spaces. This study will be organized as listed below: 1) The study how the daycare centers have been organized in France, 2) Analyzing the characteristics of the daycare center buildings in terms of the special arrangement by surveying the examples chosen for this study, 3) Analyzing the different architectural types happening in the various city contexts. This study can be a backup material for the necessity for building more daycare centers. Also it can work as a reference of planning the better daycare centers for children under three and provide a standard for a Korean government.
A Study of the Awareness of the Governing Classes and the Architectural Characteristics of Mo-Jeong in the Joseon Dynasty through Literature and Paintings

The purpose of this study is to analyze the awareness of the governing classes of Mo-Jeong and its architectural characteristics in the Joseon Dynasty by means of a review of literature and paintings. Mo-Jeong is a sort of open-air pavilion with a roof made of thatch and constructed with one or two spans. In previous times, Mo-Jeong was considered as the representative architecture of the Jeon-Nam Province, where it was used in farming communities. However, a review of ancient literature and paintings depicting Mo-Jeong reveals that it was not used only for one specific class, but rather was used by a variety of groups ranging from ordinary people to the members of the ruling class. Moreover, there are several examples in literature and paintings which show that Mo-Jeong was used in palaces and for the governing classes' gardens. The results of this study are as follows: In the Joseon Dynasty, the governing classes used Mo-Jeong not only for official areas in palaces but also as a leisure space near their rear garden and in the sarangchae (the men's part of a house), due to its simple structure and ready supply of materials. Furthermore, Mo-Jeong was embodied in the governing classes' philosophies and ideas such as Neo-Confucianism, Daoist hermit ideology, and the thought of Lao-tzu because its material represents its simplicity and natural beauty.
A Study of Establishment and Development Process of China Modern Architectural Education

Architectural education has a close relationship with the national and regional characteristic, it has been characterized to fit its national or regional characteristic, the systematic training, developed these unique characteristics, set the stage for producing excellent architect. Since 2002 University in Korea is trying to reorganize educational program on international standard as it prepares to become a member nation of WTO. Through the curriculum to fit international standard, the introduction of the teaching methods and the education system with the characteristics of Korea are in desperate need of produce of architect with international competitiveness. The purpose of this paper is to take a look at establishment and development process of China(P.R.C) modern architectural education. Accordingly, this study provide an in-depth analysis for establishment and development process of China(P.R.C) modern architectural education system and objective data to identify time-specific characteristics of China(P.R.C) architectural education system and curriculum practices.
A Study on the Dduel-Jip with Small Inner Court in Taeback Mountainous Region of GyeungBuk and GangWonDo

The purpose of this study is the dwelling cultural mean of the longitudinal expansion Ddeulzip which are the small size examples with the court of the size width between three post. The basic reason on selection the small size Ddeulzip is owing to simplicity can be revealing of the essential housing. The scope of study is reduced to 33 houses in the Andong cultural area and the around. The results are as the following after the analysis on the number of bay between the posts, the roof shape and structure and plan construction on the Anchae and SarangChae area. 1) The Architectural Characteristics on the Small-Sized Ddeulzip are summarized. 2) The most of the Small-Sized Ddeulzip are including to types of the Seoul-KyengKi but YoungDong or YoungNang region owing to the scale proportion of the roof and inner court. 3) The longitudinal-expansion Ddeulzip is known as the special example in the academic published, yet. But through this study is revelled that the longitudinal-expansion Ddeulzip is influenced with the lower traditional popular house type as the DurungZip or the YekanZip on the rounding mountainous area. And this means to the dwelling cultural corresponding event between classes in the late of Chosen Dynasty, as to increasing the the economic affording agricultural society class, since

The Characteristics and the Development of the Octagonal Building from Three Kingdom to the Unified Shilla Period - Focused on the Comparison of Remains -

The purpose of this study is to analyze the octagonal buildings in the era of three kingdom and the unified Silla. There are 10 octagonal building remains of 20 polygon builing remains. The octagonal buildings are very important as the unique buildings style of Goguryeo. And the octagonal shape symbolized as eight signs of divination(八卦) of ancient religion and one of Buddhist doctrine in Korea and China. So the octagonal buildings had used as ritual building or Buddhist pagoda from 3rd Century of Goguryeo to the unified Silla. The octagonal Buddhist pagodas can find the origin from the twin remains of Goguryeo palace in Hwandosansung(丸都山城). The 4 of Goguryeo octagonal Buddhist pagodas had similar shape but the Yeongmyosa(靈廟寺) twin pagodas in the unified Silla was smaller than Goguryeo octagonal Buddhist pagodas. The other five buildings assume as multi-storied building. They did not have the foundation while The octagonal Buddhist pagodas had foundation. The first floor columns plan of buildings was difficult to use the space so upper floor might have used special purpose.
A Fundamental Study on BIM Based Energy Performance Assessment System in Early Design Stage - Focused on Interface for Building Energy Simulation -

Since global warming and environmental pollution issues arose worldwide, technologies and policies related with low-energy building have been developed in the field of architecture. Green BIM based technology is a way to achieve the sustainable building in the early design stage. Accordingly, this study will develop BIM based building energy performance assessment system in the early design stage. This paper suggested the system requirements and strategies to develop the system through literature review. System concept, architecture, and function modules were proposed in detail in order to develop the suggested system. This study also focused on development of interfaces for BIM based building energy simulation. Interface consists of two parts. One is the user input interface in the suggested system. The other is the convert interface which is able to convert gbXML file to EnergyPlus input file, IDF.
Analysis of Energy Efficiency of Light-Weigh Wood Frame House and Wooden Passive House Using PHPP

In recent times, it has been an increased demand of wood frame house in Korea due to their environmental performance and economic feasibility. Most of the passive houses in Europe have been made of wood and showed superior energy performance. To improve thermal performance of Korean wood frame house in the level of passive houses, analysis of thermal properties such as heat gain, heat loss, and annual heat demand was conducted between Korean wood frame house and wooden passive house using PHPP (Passive House Planning Package) 2007 program. As problems caused by global warming become more serious to humans, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, which has a direct influence on global warming is emerging as one of the principal challenges. Accordingly, the reduction of greenhouse gas produced in the process of operating a building, or the reduction of energy consumption is emerging as a main issue. As part of such a trend, we select passive design based on elementary school, Therefore, this study suggested an energy-saving design plan considering passive design elements by experimental design. By evaluating the influence, classified the design elements based on their importance and suggested a final design plan.
A Comparative Study on the Temporal Changes of Residential and Sound Environments in Namwon City

The purpose of this study is to inquire into the actual states and recognition characteristics on the temporal changes of residential and sound environments in a region. It was analyzed the aspects and characteristics of attitude changes on the residential and sound environments of the residents in Namwon city in a span of ten years through the results of questionnaire survey in 2001/2002 and 2011. The importance of amenity factors in relation to satisfaction of residential environments emerged as sanitation conditions in 2001 and housing structure in 2011, and the estimation of these two factors were lowered in 2011 than 2001. The importance of impression factors in relation to satisfaction of residential environments emerged as health in 2001 and 2011. The estimation of health and vitality factors were lowered in 2011 while intimacy was highered. The consciousness on regional development through the residents participation were expanded to a higher level from infrastructure and urban/housing environments to natural environments, festive occasion and cultural welfare. Analysis on the comparative importances of sound groups rated compatible with the surroundings showed that the residents set store by sound environment expressing regional characteristics such as traditional environment sound and working environment sound in 2002, and natural environment sound, traditional environment sound and local environment sound in 2011.
An Analysis of Electric-Power Saving Effect According to Energy Saving Behavior in Residential Sector

With the improvement in economic power and diversification of living patterns, the demands of household energy-consumption devices have changed. The household energy consumption accounts for 20 percent of the entire energy consumption in Korea. Among household energy consumption, electric-power consumption is expected to increase as the number of household energy-consumption devices has been on the rise. The purpose of this work is to investigate the possibility of household energy saving through the "the way of reducing the use hours of devices and their use" as the other energy saving way than "choice of highly efficient devices". To achieve the purpose, this researcher conducted a questionnaire survey with 2,250 households in the country to look into the state of the possession and use of household energy-consumption devices. And we investigate into the energy-saving behavior. The results are as follows. First, A household possessed 16.21 household energy-consumption devices. when we are grouping by energy-saving behavior, there is no difference the numbers of energy-consumption devices. Two, group 1 can save energy-cost about 11,000won in the winter and 15,000won in the summer by energy-saving behavior.
