A Study on the Planning Characteristics of External Space in Modern Houses

This study is an analysis of ways to plan the external space in modern housing. It investigates how vague and obscure boundaries and the intermediate space emerge and which features the plan for the attached external space in housing has. For these purposes, Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier, Tugendhat House by Mies van der Rohe, Groupius House by Water Groupius will be selected as representative building works for housing and features of their external space in housing will be examined in detail. The extracted external space is classified according to the openness into three heads: 'open space', 'semi open space' and 'closed space'. It is in turn divided in user, position, connection, composition and combination of the internal and external space. The structure of connective relation between rooms by the external space and the accessibility in circulation is visually analysed. It reveals also ways of arrangements, in which internal and external space, circulation and occupants are engaged. In addition it is historically pursued, how the external space comes up for the design under the situation of modern changes in architecture such as the disappearance of ornaments and sculptures and the alteration of features of the internal and external space. In conclusion this research suggests that modern housing presents basic aspects of the external space.
A Correlation Analysis on 'Cooling and Heating Loads' and 'Window to Wall Ratios' in Accordance with the form of Simulation-Based Office Towers - Focused on BIM Model at the Early Design Stages -

Recently, there is an interest about Green Buildings and Low-Carbon Design in architecture. The Korean government is expected to prepares a policy for reducing green house gases. Also, energy consumption in building increases continuously as a demand for comfort and convenience have increased recognition of change in building. For this reason, the field of architecture is searching for energy reduction program that uses energy saving building materials and new regeneration energy. But a study of design methods for energy saving is lacking. Therefore, this research defines factors that effect the energy performance in buildings, especially in the view of the window to wall ratio which greatly influences heating and cooling loads. The window to wall ratio highly influences energy saving at the early design stage. The research compares and analyzes the window to wall ratio on each type of building mass. It proposes a basis for deduction of resonable office tower's window areas by using a result value from each type of building mass and floor area. The proposed results on window to wall ratio will help in energy reduction at design stages.
Evaluation System for Vulnerable People to Disaster in Evacuation Planning According to Start of Fire

Our society is facing the changes in the social structure because of development of civilization and income improvement. These social changes have caused an increase in vulnerable people to disasters such as the elderly, the disabled, foreigners and children and then it is expected that there will be a growing demand for security. Although performance-based evacuation safety planning has been performed in order to ensure the evacuation safety when fires occur in buildings, there are many difficulties in considering the vulnerable people to disasters who are expected to exist in buildings. In order to ensure the evacuation safety for vulnerable people to disasters when fires occur in buildings, this study investigated and re-established items and factors of evacuation planning with previous literature and conducted a preliminary and main survey on experts in construction and fire protection. Subsequently, this study performed the descriptive statistics importance analysis, regression analysis and others by using the SPSS statistical program. The previous evacuation planning has lacked consideration for vulnerable people to disasters who were the most vulnerable in evacuation. Thus, in order to provide a direction of evacuation planning with consideration of them, this study analyzed the importance in detailed conditions of evacuation planning that varies depending on start of fire. In the future also, various studies will be continued for evacuation safety to vulnerable people to disasters.
A Study on Characteristics of Visual Fixation in an Evacuation Process Created via Virtual Reality - Focusing on Subway Evacuation Simulation -

This study can be utilized for understanding the characteristics of mechanism to search and extract situational clue through objectification and quantification of observation features acquired evacuation process by grafting new technologies as the method for overcoming the limitations of existing studies. First, In an uncommon situation such as a disaster, the subjects focused mostly on the walls that surround the test space (33.5%) or the signs that aid their evacuation, but their visual fixation on the outer parts of the vision was also high (24.9%). Gleaning from these data, visual activities are high in the initial stage of the evacuation process for the purposes of information survey, accompanied by space roving. Secondly, There are two sections of stairs in the experiment. Considered that there was more observation of the top than the bottom which might be dangerous due to stairs, it can be found more efficient in the evacuation process to offer more signal information to the top. Thirdly, There are two sections of stairs in the experiment. The Section A where a disaster took place and the Section B (stairs) where the vertical movement began had more observation of the ceiling which observers were conscious of in case of evacuation. However, it was found that the observation for searching the sign to appreciate the movement in the space was stronger than that of the top such as the ceiling in the situation of evacuation at Section C. In other words, it is very effective to put the directional signs at the front for general evacuation movement and at the top against a higher risk of fire respectively. Fourthly, comparing the situations in which the subjects encountered the first set of stairs in Section B immediately after the occurrence of the disaster and the next set of stairs in Section D when the subjects came out to a hall, their visual fixation on signs and staircases in Section D was higher than B, the ratios of which were 16.8%/8.4% and 14.0%/11.8% respectively. These characteristics of visual fixation seem to reflect the circumstances surrounding their arrival in Sections B and D.
A Study on Vertical Circulation System Characteristics of High-Rise Residential Buildings in Korea

The proposed of this study is to verify the characteristics of horizontal and vertical zoning of elevator, and efficiency of building core design in super high-rise buildings. For the purpose, we reviewed the elevator systems of 8 super high-rise buildings over 200m height and 50 story The results are as follows; First, an efficient vertical-movement flow allowed to compart the elevator two zoning by function. Second, the core-area ratio of the super high-rise residential buildings should be increased in proportion to the average number of households placed one floor. Third, the number of households that can be one elevator to provide services, centralized core generation average(28.1), capable of one elevator was planned in a distributed core of generation average(61.0) to service it was analyzed with high. Fourth, horizontal distance of each generation between the elevator that was central core is 14.48m, Distributed core is 9.70m, were analyzed distributed core is better terms of horizontal movement Convenience. It is possible to know that plans the elevator that is efficient, based on the space efficiency of the developer and user of convenience occupants side by the distributed core plans have been made.
Development of Analysis Scale of Space Depth Through Considered Both Length and Connection Angle of Aisle to Estimate Traffic Volume within the Space

The purpose of this study is to provide a measure depth analysis of the space to estimate the traffic volume in the space. The integration of space syntax, VGA model, and ERAM model theory as a representative to measure the amount of traffic volume in space. At the important of the existing indicators of these, some to be measured in any concept of depth of space. Therefore, the depth corresponding to the length of the shortest routes to access a specific area, a depth corresponding to the degree of angular change in the path, the depth of the space existing, depending on the number of axes or edges on the path there is a concept of depth was. In this study, in order to Development of Analysis Scale of Space Depth, considering comprehensively the degree of change of the angle and the actual length of the edge of the access path of a particular region, the more systematic I develop a measurement indicator of the depth of the space. In order to develop an application based on the RPMS for efficient computation of the index of the depth of the space that has been developed in this way. Finally, within the space correlation of actual traffic and the existing space as well as depth measurement model to predict the traffic volume is verified that there is a significant explanatory power.
A Development of Quantification Indicators for Circulation System Evaluation in Mixed-Use Buildings

The objective of the study is to derive the quantification indicators for circulation system evaluation and to analyse the importance weight of the indicators in mixed-use buildings. The study is based on the following approaches: first, extracts four circulation plan elements (path, entrance, central area, vertical circulation elements) and five quantitative elements (width, length, height, ratio, depth) to evaluate numerically by literatures review related to mixed-use buildings. Second, derives the evaluation categories for individual characteristics and connection structure on four circulation plan elements. Third, surveys practicing professionals three times using Delphi Technique. Fourth, develops the quantification indicators for circulation system evaluation and analyses the importance weight of the indicators by descriptive statistics (PASW statistics18) and AHP. According to the study, the width is the most important factor in quantitative elements and the central area is the key element in circulation plan elements.
A Study on Preschool Arrangement and Preschooler's Walking Distance in Housing Development

Recently the early childhood education has more reenforced and the financial aid for early childhood education has also been increased. As increasing the requirement of regular educational system for 3-5 aged children, a number of new kindergartens should be established. Reports on population movement by the National Statistical Office show that the number of preschool age population has been decreased from 4.2million in 1995 to 2.7 million in 2012. As the equality of learning environment and quality of early education is emerging as an unfolding problem, each school district is concerned with proper arrangement within new city and urban housing site. This study aims at developing the proper walking distance for infants to walk and from kindergarten to house in order to arrange efficiently new preschools in urban housing sites. In doing so, it examines the present nationwide state of the early childhood education, kindergartens and related policies. In addition, it explores the home and abroad standards on kindergarten arrangement and walking preschooler's distance. The survey study about preschool preference and proper distance from house is followed. Finally, this study suggests that a kindergarten per 1,500 house-holders should be established in the new urban development site and that the infant's walking distance is restricted in 300-400 meter and the running time of school bus in 20 minutes. It proposes the ratio of public kindergartens to increase to the extent of 80%, because it is the global trend and gives a opportunity of education in kindergarten to the children in low income brackets.
A Study on the Recognition and Needs of the Middle-Aged Residents for Elderly Care - Cases of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA and Jinju, Korea -

This study investigates the attitude and needs of the middle-aged residents for the elderly care in Milwaukee city, Wisconsin, USA and Jinju city, Korea. Survey questionnaire was carried out in both countries. (1) Many respondents(63.5%) who live in Jinju city answered they don't have intentions to move to elderly care and they think elderly care impresses them favorably, while many respondents(79.6%) who live in Milwaukee city answered they don't have intentions to move to elderly care and they don't think elderly care impresses them favorably. (2) In choosing elderly care, Korean respondents placed order of priority on 'countryside with a good environment(19.1%)', 'economic aspects(14.9%)', 'the level of programs and services(14.6%)', and American respondents placed order of priority on 'economic aspects(23.5%)', 'distance from area in which children live(17.9%)', 'the level of programs and services(14.6%)'.
A Study on the Development Direction of the Pig House Architectural Design Manual for Preventing Foot-and-Mouth Disease

The purpose of this study is to extract design elements from standard drawing on the pig house in domestic for preventing Foot-and-mouth disease. It is based on the assumption that a pig house has an effect on life pattern and health of pigs. This is ultimately for setting up basic data of the development direction of the pig house architectural design manual for preventing Foot-and-mouth disease. As a result of this study, Foot-and-mouth disease is spreaded out through the route such as direct contact, indirect contact, polluted environment and air. Therefore, blocking out the path can be seen as most basic method for preventing Foot-and-mouth disease, which include such method as bio-security and preventive, ventilation, strengthen of immunity through stress reduction. According to the analysis of standard drawing on the pig house in domestic, it show that standards are different from one another. It is judged that most guides are made by abroad case and individual experience. Therefore we should redefine specific and general the pig house architectural design manual for preventing Foot-and-mouth disease.
A BIM-Based Architectural Model Takes Advantage of the Estimate Model Process

A BIM-based architectural model, the estimate of the model for persistence of the LOD (Level of Detail) and the model for constructing estimates considering code, was generated by applying the creative model for the building-design process and the BIM-based estimates of the model for the process used to reach it. For this, the design criteria for step-by-step BIM model generation as well as the LOD standards, type properties, and property object types of the structure and re-trim model to generate code information for each object were determined by specifying the architecture, specialist work, element parts, and materials classification standards. In addition, the arithmetic link automatically calculated the amount of results, and the BIM tool compared the parameters to apply the BIM tool extracted from the quantity credibility and procured the breakdown cost by applying the confirmed estimate. The results of this research into the architectural design practice of building-design BIM tools designed by applying the step-by-step building-design model estimate reveal that it is possible, in the step-by-step LOD level design of orders, that the estimate can be used as a standard.
A Study Proposal on the Movable Building Design Method and Its Application - Focusing on the Deploying Movable Building Proposal on the Road Spaces -

The movable building has very specific solutions and operation mechanisms in order to solve problems of the non-movable buildings. The design method of the movable building needs to be done through an understanding process of its own characteristics and mechanisms. This study aims to make a proposal of a basic design method for movable building and to think about its appliance possibilities. A design method for movable buildings following a process of five steps was developed and was based on the evaluation step, recent studies and literature review about movable mechanisms. Finally, the present study proposes the deploying movable building on road spaces and its application plans through the movable building design method application.
The Study on Linking Method of Project for Regeneration of Historic Cultural Area - Focused on the Nagahama City and Kawagoe City in Japan -

The purpose of this study is to come up with the idea of regeneration of internal historic cultural area based on linking method of project. We analysed the regeneration plan and extract the type of project and linking form of project by vocabulary presented in the plan with two example in Japan(Nagahama city and Kawagoe city). Based on this we analysed the series of process and linkage structure. Through these characteristics of linkage, we find out the linking method and implication for regeneration of internal historic cultural area. The results are as follows: 1) According to the type of project and linking form, we found out 4 types of charging regeneration task ; utilizing of architecture, infrastructure maintenance, commercial district maintenance, event, 3 types of function ; catalyst, mediation, maintenance. 3 types of linking form ; induction, unification, connection. 2) As a result that we analysed characteristics of linkage, there were 2 types ; regeneration of specific area + linking with nearby area, regeneration of plural areas + connection plural areas. 3) Linking method have 5 principles ; sociality, locality, connectivity, strategy, cooperation. 4) Linking methods deals with various local problems. so it will provide direction of regeneration. Finally to apply these linking method in internal area, we suggest needs of comprehensive plans and systematic management organization.
An Study on the Skin Fabrication of Office Building of the 1960's Located in the Northern Metropolitan Seoul Area

This thesis aims to focus on the distinctive character of contemporary Korean architecture by focusing on the formative process of out skin fabrication of high-rise office buildings in the Sixties. This decade was characterized by a policy that intended to transform whole national territory as productive vehicle of economy. Urban migration and consequent settlement in quatitative level had taken place, as demand for monumental buildings that could physical represent economic growth had been growing. The skin of these building is a manifestation of the figurative premise of each architect that correspond to the urbanization and economic development actualized by central government. This thesis proposed three categories to understand different strategies taken by various architects toward the urban phenomenon and infrastructure condition of the decade under speculation.
A Study on the Biological Analogy in Japanese Architecture in the 1960-70s - Focused on the Study of the Botanic Analogy Used by Japanese Metabolists -

This is the first part of a paper series about the biological analogy in japanese architecture in the 1960-70s. The purpose of this study is to analyze the botanic analogy used by japanese metabolists including Kenzo Tange and Arata Isozaki. Japanese metabolists have employed the tree forms, its mode of growth and manufacture, and even its environments for their architecture. We must focus on their biological analogy because their reflection of 'nature' based on the technology will provide clues for the culture of the changing today from 'human-centered world' to 'nature-centered world'. An attempt to recombine the image of a living organism, such as growth, division, exchange, change, and dissolution, circulation, by the advanced architectural technology should give some positive thinkings to resolve the problems of modern city.
The Concept and Limitation for Practical Use of 3D Scan Data for the Survey Report of Wooden Architectural Heritage - Focused on Survey Drawings -

The purpose of this study was to analyze the status of the use of 3D scan data for the survey report of wooden architectural heritage. Especially, the 3D scan data is used for the survey drawing in survey report because of the accuracy. But there is not established the using system of 3D scan data, for example, the task order of clients, the structure of the survey report and drawing system. There are some limitations of the use of 3D scan data for survey report of wooden architectural heritage because of the administrative system, program system, drawing system. So this study proposes to the concept for practical use of 3D scan data and provide the change for structure of survey report and drawing system. The using concept of 3D scan data is the one of the basic materials(survey writing paper, photo and so on). And it is the other system of accurate recording the status of wooden architectural heritage. So the survey report have to include the limitation of the 3D scan data and electronic shape of 3D scan data not printed shape.
Aldo Rossi and Rafael Moneo's Architecture in Relation to Time and Space - Focusing on the Issues of Regionalism -

Critical regionalism plays role in the modernist space as a resistance to globalization. But today it is difficult to maintain a critical attitude. Because contemporary space, so-called post-modern space, accommodate even spacing that is comprehensive critical regionalism strategy. On these issues, this thesis look into the critical regionalism's possibilities that can operate as a critical manner in the post-modern space, through a study on the socio-cultural research in the space of modernism and post-modernism. And it is determined through the architecture of Aldo Rossi and Rafael Moneo. As a result, they use a methodology to strengthen the sense of place by separating the temporal and spatial elements that register modernism and post-modernism's simultaneous synthesis of spatial and temporal elements of place. And the relationship between the temporal and spatial components has possibilities that can work in critical regionalism.
The Relationship Between Neighborhood Facilities and Development Characteristics in Detached Housing Area of the Land Development District

The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationship between Neighborhood facilities and development characteristics in detached housing area of the land development districts. One-way anova and Kruskal-Wallis by Levene's equal variance test are employed as the empirical analysis on the location of neighborhood facilities and development characteristics of detached housing area in Daegu Metropolitan city. For the this analysis, 1,277 building data of the detached housing area in the 4 land development districts was investigated and The major findings are as follows; First, the number and sharing ratio of neighborhood facilities in a building increase at first and decrease in the end as the size of parcel increases. Second, the number and sharing ratio of neighborhood facilities of a building increase steadily as land price of parcel is higher. Third, the number and sharing ratio of those facilities decrease as the number of floors increases. Forth, the number and sharing ratio of those facilities increase, especially highest in 12m's width of road adjacent to parcel, as the width and the number of road adjacent to parcel increase. The last, the number and sharing ratio of those facilities decrease in the block with two lines of parcels and the parcels which are located in the middle of the block. This research will help us better understand the relationship between Neighborhood facilities and development characteristics in detached housing area to improve residential area in the land development district.
Establishment of Urban Regeneration Model for Carbon Reduction and Analysis on the Application Effect - A Case Study of Housing Reconstruction District in Daejeon -

The purpose of this study is to verify the effectiveness of carbon reduction by estimating carbon emissions of urban regeneration project applied carbon-reduction design. And, this study estimates the cost of design elements, and analyze the effects of carbon reduction. Major findings are summarized as follows. First, we found applicable design elements for carbon reduction and applied to Yongmun-dong housing reconstruction districts. Consequently, the process showed that total of carbon emission was declined by 37.4% compared to existing plan. Second, cost analysis of carbon reduction showed that deign elements such as land use & traffic, active-solar system and passive house ranked high in priorities. Therefore, we have to consider that land use & traffic, active-solar system and passive house are adopted at first to improve the effectiveness in limited budget.
A Study on Comparing and Analyzing in Standard Management Rules of Apartment for Rent and Sale by the Management Work Type

This study was to propose amendment of apartment management rules as a primary research. The research method were as follows: 1) The analysis framework utilized result of preceding research composed 6 types of management works and 36 items of subcategories by researcher. 2) The standard management rules of rental housing utilized a total of 5 rules which draw up after a revision of Rental Housing Act in 2000. The standard management rules housing for sale utilized a total of 16 rules such as management rules of metropolitan municipality including the city of Incheon and Seoul. 3) The analysis method used content analysis to compare and analyze in standard management rules of apartment for rent and sale by the management work type. Actually, the standard management rules housing for sale utilized a total of 7 rules by uniting identical contents of metropolitan municipality. The results of the analysis were as follows: Overall, apartment management works were central to the maintenance or Operations Management. Therefore, Business administration and the administrative work was a standard management rules was very important in dealing regardless of the sale and rent. In terms of management rules of the Life Management business, the sale apartment was handling better than rental apartment standard management rules in more detail.
A Study on the Achievement on a Community Design Participants - Focused on Siheung-City -

Recently, the community design through residents' voluntary participation is spreading all over the nation and contributing to development local cultural environment. The purpose of this study is the proposal of effective evaluation methods and verified achievement characteristics for community design participants based on local environment and methods. A case study carried out Siheung City's 'Hope Community Design' project, which promoted the area's regeneration through the participation of the local community. Through this research, we gained achievement characteristics based on characteristic of participants and an improvement direction on local community design. Meanwhile, sustainable community design need to sustainable activities and managements of community organization more. We expect that this study can contribute to the improvement of the evaluation methods of community design for developing a pleasant and attractive residential environment.
Distance Potential Field Development for Pedestrian Simulation in Large-Scale Space

Distance potential field is useful method for pedestrian/crowd/evacuation simulations or robotics. In simulation, distance potential field enables agents to find their paths toward destinations effectively. The simulations are more important in large-scale spaces than small-scale spaces. Because area size and interior structure are large and complex, in large-scale spaces, occupant's moving distance and path are distant and complicated. Also, phenomenons that caused by a lot of occupants are considerably complex. In large-scale space, however, calculation time of distance potential field increases markedly. To improve problems of existing methods, we developed Hierarchical Distance Potential Field. That has dual scale models and calculate distance potential field combining hierarchically them. Showing sample spaces, we demonstrated that's concept and algorithm. Improvements of Hierarchical Distance Potential Field are as follows : 1) Dividing large-scale space to tiny parts, calculation time is little than existing methods. 2) When distance potential field must be calculated numerously, this method can processes them at one time. 3) Using divided tiny parts, this method provides multi-threading calculation. If computing environments allow, it can maximize them.
A Study on the Energy Reduction Effect Using Renewable Energy Through the Analysis of Energy Consumption Structure in the University Buildings

In the world, the energy consumption tends to be continuously increasing. If such situation is continued, it is obvious that we will encounter a serious crisis which is the energy depletion in the near future. In order to prevent this crisis in advance, it is necessary to put efforts in diversifying energy sources from the existing fossil fuel to renewable energy, and also reducing energy consumption. The total energy consumption of Korea in 2011 was 275.7 million TOE, increased 4.5% compared with the previous year. Considering the consumption structure for each energy consumption sector, the energy consumed in the building sector is more than 20% of the total. Among them, the energy consumption of university building sector is continuously increasing while the energy efficiency per unit area is gradually decreasing. In order for energy reduction of university buildings that accounts for 13.6% of the energy consumption for domestic building sector, this study aims to suggest the application measures of efficient renewable energy source with the same initial investment cost to reduce power consumption which is the main energy source for university buildings, by analyzing the current condition of energy consumption and energy consumption structure for university buildings.
Long-Term Demand Forecasting Electric Power by Using Home Appliances in Residential Sector

Despite the Government's various efforts to stabilize the supply of energy, recently there has been an increased concern about the stability of electricity supply in the summer and winter seasons. This study holds purpose in quantitatively estimating long-term electricity demand based on the use of home appliances in residential sector. Home appliances used in housing can be divided into air-conditioning unit, heating, brown goods and lighting. Analysis was carried out on a total of 23 types of electrical appliances and used Gompertz model for demand forecasting of its penetration rate. Residential sector consumed 61,564.3GWh of electric power in 2011 and showed a 24.5% of energy resource. According to estimations of electricity demand, it is expected that in 2030, 86,153GWh of electricity will be consumed. In 2030, electric power consumption per household will amount to approximately 3.97MWh and this is approximately 8.4% higher than that of 2010. This study's results are expected to be used as basic quantitative data for ensuring stable supply and management of electric power on a national level.
Performance Evaluation of EIFS Using Vacuum Insulation Panels for Passive and Zero-Energy Apartment Buildings

The Korean government has set the goal of "Green Development" as a direction of national growth. For the target goal of Zero-energy House construction in 2025, the government announced that the insulation regulations will become stricter. It has been predicted that high-performance insulation panels, such as vacuum insulation panels(VIPs), should be used to decrease the thickness of the outer walls. The energy performance of a base model of conventional internal insulation system with conventional insulation panel and three alternatives of dry type external insulation system with VIPs were analyzed by three-dimensional heat transfer simulation. Construction cost and convenience of each alternative were compared. As results, outstanding alternatives with VIPs were suggested according to the combinations of weighting factors of energy performance, construction cost and convenience.
The Basic Study on Future Scenarios of SmartHome Based on the App Ecosystem

SmartHome(Home Automation) has achieved a remarkable development in a few decades. In ICT field, mobile app ecosystem has been created since the advent of I-phone. Due to the synergy effect of the app eco system, it has been applied to the various fields such as TV and car industry. Furthermore, app ecosystem is about to be applied to SmartHome as well. However, there is not enough researches about SmartHome based on the app ecosystem. Thus, this study looked into the app ecosystem through literature review and analyzed current status of apps for smart home control at app markets. Then, scenario method which is one of the prediction method is selected to see future of smart home based on the app ecosystem. This study does not show the final scenario, but find facts and basically organize these facts in this phase. For finding the facts, literatures related to smart TV and smart home app ecosystem for finding the facts were researched.
