Structural Equation Modeling for the Sustainable Community in Apartment Complex

The residential community becomes one of essential issues for the sustainable urban dwellings which is supporting the human right, their health and their happiness. In this study, the model of stainable apartment community is developed which enables to build the apartment planning fulfilling the residents' diverse needs. The survey researches followed the literature reviews on the sustainable residential environment, the components of apartment community, and SCI(Sense of Community Index). 378 residents lived in four major apartments complexes in Busan answered and their responses were analyzed through statistical process using PASW 18 and AMOS 19.0. Results and conclusions are as follows. (1) The residents who has satisfied with the components of apartment community were intend to have the positive sense of community. The components of all the factors composing the apartment community including the physical, the social and the administrational aspects had significant effect to make an apartment complex a sustainable place. The managerial factor had greater effect than the physical and the social factor on the sustainability of apartment community. (2) Sense of community was identified as a mediating variable that has influenced between the components of apartment community and the substantiality of the apartment community. The modified SCI of this research were verified as a useful measurement for the sustainable apartment community. This study is expected to serve as a practical data to enhance residential environment quality and ultimately establish sustainable environment of apartments.
Experimental Research on the Temperature and Humidity Control Performance of Cellulose

The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of cellulose insulation on the indoor temperature and humidity. To do so, two full scale mock-ups were constructed which insulated with cellulose and mineral wool, and monitoring data from winter to spring were compared and analyzed. The results showed that temperature variation of both mock-ups appeared stable compared to the outside, and cellulose showed relatively high temperature compared to the mineral wool mock-up due to the good heat storage capacity. In addition, both mock-ups showed stable humidity variation compared to the outdoor, however, humidity of cellulose mock-up stayed in the comfort zone while mineral wool showed higher humidity than comfort level. Therefore, it was proved that cellulose was effective for controlling indoor humidity environment.
A Study on the Problems Extraction of Dong-Daegu Intermodal Transfer Center Development Plan

The development of Intermodal Transfer Center(ITC) is aimed at reinforcing connected transfer systems and promoting local development through high-density intermodal development and building the green traffic system. Although Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport selected 8 demonstration project places for ITC in 2010. The only project being conducted among them is Dong-Daegu ITC and the others has been delayed or suspended, which means that there are problems in carrying out of each project. The paper sets the criteria of analysis through reviewing the ITC development guidelines and then compares with Dong-Daegu ITC development plan. Discussions include the problems of 1) Architectural Design, 2) Urban planning, 3) Institution, and 4) Business with its plan. As a result, in architectural design, Dong-Daegu ITC has revealed the problems of excessive functions and commercial facilities in the building and the lack of perceptibility of the transfer system. In urban planning, it has failed to give the priority on transfer system with the absence of master plan for an integrated railway station area development. In institutions, it's plan has been delayed the progression of the project owing to lacks of cooperation systems among related organizations and legal supports. In business, changing the designated direction of Dong-Daegu ITC from as a national one to a regional has caused the decrease of publicity and the restriction of its national functions.
Educational Environment and Infrastructure for Self-Motivated Learning

Hypothetically this research based on 'Private High-school for Self-Motivated Learning(PHS)' covers social issues of urban regeneration as well as community upgrade to analyze how to achieve a life-long education society in terms of active learning environment. The case study figures outthe geographical distribution of the PHSs whether the layout is user oriented within the boundary of each districts as well as it is convenient enough to access in terms of distance and commute. The case study of PHSs of 25 counties in Seoul intends to develop a prototype of idealistic education environment and infrastructure with the 'openness' and 'flexibility'. Verifying the educational divide deepen in the existing PHS districts of Seoul, this case study is to manipulate statistical data of 2012 student census, 2012 school facility area of 3 categories of classroom & laboratory, administration & supports, and athletic & meetings. Additionally it reviewed the 2013 mean price of apartment of 25 counties and then concluded that the maximum distance between the PHS and the general high school is relatively indirectly proportioned to the mean price. According to the graphs addressing the correlation between commute distances and levels of apartment price, it seems clear that the low mean price of the Northern PHS district comparing with the Southern one have significant negative effects of commute distances and self-motivated learning spaces. Upgrading the educational environment of the PHS, first of all, it is necessary not only differentiating its educational environment from the other high schools to support customized programs, but also reinforcing the layout balance alleviating the educational divide.
A Study on the Preference of Residents about Apartment Building Shape and Arrangement

Apartment building shape and layout planning have been changed by complex density related laws and regulations, home buyers preferences, and design competition results by experts. Apartment building shape is a crucial factor in determining the apartment housing arrangement, and it differentiates the design concept of the layout planning. The purpose of this study is to analyze whether the preference of residence for any apartment building shape and the arrangement of apartment buildings. The binary logit model approach was used to analyze the cause for these evaluation. The analysis results are listed below: first, a majority of respondent prefer flat shaped buildings or the arrangement that the ratio of them is over 70%. Second, factors affecting the preference of the building shape and the arrangement are gender, age, household numbers, the preferred azimuth, floor level and housing density. These differences have to be reflected in the layout planning of the apartment housing. This study was presented that the residents' characteristics and the preferred positional condition of the residential unit give a very important influence in determining the preferred building shape and the arrangement design. Thus in the planning process it is needed to reflect the resident's opinion and determine the concept of the housing arrangement. In addition, the result of the satisfaction of the resident to live in either the flat shaped building or the L-shaped one is confirmed that it is necessary to develop various type of housing with the similar positional conditions of flat-shaped buildings.
Study for Social Mix as Architectural Planning Method of Public Rental Housing - Focused on Regeneration Case of Hirara Complex, in Okinawa, Japan -

This study was intended to investigate improving methods of the residential environment of public rental housing by focusing on the social mix as a planning method of the public rental housing in response for diversified lifestyle of residents due to low birthrate and aging phenomenon. This study selected public rental housing, Hirara Complex, in Okinawa that applied architectural planning of physical mixture of various scale unit housings to induce social mix in coexistence of various age and coexistence of various family type aspects. First, as a result of classifying and analyzing the architectural planning method into housing, block, and complex level, it was identified that diversity and proper community formation of early tenants are acquiring great importance. Also, it was verified that residents are being well-balanced in the early part of moving in according to the original plan through analysis on the time-based residential condition. On the other hand, in 2013 after 11 years since the reconstruction, unbalanced situation of the balance of residents becoming standardized without durability occurred that the durability of social mix cannot be secured only through architectural planning methods of physical mixture of various housing scales. Therefore, this study suggested provision methods as recognizing diversity of residence selection of residents, planning methods based on the response to area with flexibility, and supporting circulation between residents.
Analysis of Cooling and Heating Loads considering the Impact of Solar Shading by Adjacent Buildings in Density Cities

Environmental issues of building located in complex and dense cities are easily exposed to be affected by surrounding buildings. However, the building energy simulation generally has not been reflecting the solar shading of adjacent buildings. This paper investigates the impact of adjacent buildings on the loads. Based on EnergyPlus simulations of a building, the relationship between shaded area ratio and cooling/heating load was analyzed. In addition, this study was conducted with variables of direction, distance and exterior materials. As a result, the more the distance is further away, nearer to the south-facing and the higher the reflectivity of the material, the cooling load was reduced. However, heating load showed the opposite trend. Annual loads was reduced from 11% to 17% due to the adjacent buildings. The research findings would contribute useful base information for building design and study materials, such as related field of cooling/heating load calculation in density urban cities.
A Study on Environment-friendliness in Tokyo Regional Hospitals - Focused on Indoor and Healing Environment -

As the concerns for the environment are gradually prioritized, increasing interests of environment-friendly buildings are drawn. Numerous researches about healthcare buildings have been performed however, they were mainly focused on convenience or healing condition for medical treatments. The hospitals consume energy and generate CO2 as twice as the residential or commercial buildings do. Various green building certification systems are globally arranged. But, it isn't easy to find certification criteria for the green hospital besides the US and UK's ones which are specially designed to evaluate environment-friendly medical buildings(Lim & Yoo, 2010). In this study, we investigates current conditions of Tokyo Regional hospitals in environment-friendly standpoint and also investigates the foreign certification criteria and systems for the green healthcare building and finds the possibility to apply them to Korean Green Building Certification. Flexibility of architectural design compatible to renovation and expansion of the hospital, barrier-free design, and hospital design related to the healing environment should be mostly considered to the Korean Green Building Certification for healthcare facilities. It is because the goal of environment-friendly hospital is depended upon of quality of healing-friendly environment. Based on this analysis, Korean Green Building Certification for healthcare facilities will be developed in near future.
Spatial Factors on Satisfaction Level of Baby Stroller's and Parenting Stress

Baby strollers are the weakest subject in the public road because they are the slowest and most vulnerable with shock, noise, light, toxic, etc. If we manage the urban environment for the baby strollers, general requirement for pedestrians or the handicapped groups will be met immediately. This study is to find out how the baby caring persons evaluate overall environment for baby strollers and what constituent elements matters most in the evaluation process. Among the four elements group of sidewalk quality, pedestrian networks, building accessibility, and public transportation convenience level, build accessibility is revealed unrelated to the satisfaction decision. According to the analysis, the stress level is related to the socially-isolated feeling and passenger car demand of baby care-givers. Therefore without pertinent spatial improvement strategy for baby strollers, there will arise not only street design issues but social and transportational issues also.
The Meaning and Role of Pilotis in Urban Area through the Case of Nak-won Shopping Center

Urban area of the metropolis like 'Seoul' is demanding the space which can accommodate multiple applications to meet a wide range of supply and demand. The buildings are developed as vertical form focusing on three-dimensional and mixed-use. The value of three-dimensional and mixed-use building is formed by the relationship and linkage system of the site where the building is located. In this aspect, buildings in urban area contain 'Pilotis' which is a space constructed only by pillars without rooms. The representative building with pilotis in urban area of Seoul is Nak-won shopping center which is the first generation of mixed-use building in Korea. As time goes on, Nak-won shopping center has become outdated even though the ongoing maintenance and management. In addition, the large area of Pilotis is not a good space of communication due to the influence of vehicles in parking lots and extension of the road named 'Sam-il-ro'. Moreover the adjacent area and pedestrian environment are poor. Therefore this study suggests the direction of the architecture with pilotis in Seoul and architectural solution for social problems through analyzing the current status of pilotis space in the lower part of Nak-won shopping center.
A Study of the Analysis of Architectural space on the Perspective of Le Corbusier's Villas - Focused on the analysis of Linear Perspective of Villas in 1920s -

There has been lots of studies about Corbusier's house through typological and morphological way. However, the majority of studies are emphasized in morphological analysis, not in spacial view. Architects represent their architectural concept and architectural space in many ways, and 'perspective drawing[view]' is the most important way of expressing and planning architectural space. 'Perspective drawing[view]' was used for expressing the space since Renaissance in the field of paintings and also in the architectural fields. Comparison analysis about Renaissance(which established Human-centered view of the world by reviving the Greece Rome studies and the arts based on the Humanism) 'perspective' and Corbusier(who argued rationalism of architecture) 'perspective drawing[view]' will be the important way of understanding his architecture. The purpose of this study is to show the process of formation of architectural space and the architectural vocabulary of Modern Architecture space appeared in Corbusier's 'perspective drawing[view].' Also I hope that this study can be a guideline for architectural expression of space through a perspective drawing.
A Study on the Building Layout and Changing Process of Government Office in Gyeongsang-jwasuyoung

The aim of this study was to investigate the creation and change of Government Office which belonged to Gyeongsang-jwasuyoung(the local navy headquarters) in the latter period of Joseon Dynasty. After Gyeongsang-jwasuyoung had been shifted from one place to another three times, it was constructed within Dongnaebu(東萊府) in 1652. According to this investigation, the Government Office was converted into the school and the farmland for the first time and afterwards transferred to the banking system and the private ownership during Japan's Colonial Period. Therefor the Government Office of Gyeongsang-jwasuyoung was dissolved and completely disappeared nowadays.
A Study on Pedestrian Accessibility Assessment of Education Facilities Using Pedestrian Path Network Analysis

The purpose of this study is to suggest method of assessment of pedestrian accessibility of education facilities, comprehending student's behavior in walking to school for improving pedestrian accessibility of education facility. This study analysed pedestrian path to education facilities in residential areas with shortest path searching algorithm using path selection factor of pedestrian. Pedestrian accessibility in links of pedestrian path and neighborhood street was evaluated with distribution and visualization in pedestrian volume. Also, the distance of walking route and volume of pedestrian movement to education facilities in Eun-pyoung Newtown and Bund-dnag area are analysed for this study.
Expected Characteristics of Residents on the Green Parking Project in Ulsan

The aim of the green parking project is to resolve the parking problem in the residential areas by preventing the deterioration of residential conditions from illegally parked vehicles in the street. The project is based on the residents' participation and cooperation in creating private parking spaces and green space by breaking down the property walls. However, the performance rate in the provincial areas is low. The purpose of this study is to investigate the positive expectations and aspects of concern about the green parking project. The objects of the study were 129 residents in Ulsan who had no previous experience of the project. For analysis, the frequency and means were calculated, and factor analysis and analysis of variance were performed. The results showed, first, that the residents tend to prefer the open wall type. So it will be necessary to improve awareness of the green parking project by mentioning the many environmental and social merits of removing the walls. Second, the subjects are concerned about residential safety ; they have especially high anxiety about privacy and home security. So it will also be necessary to take security measures such as CCTVs in the street and providing a pedestrian-friendly environment. Third, people expect environmental changes, but they feel the burden of maintenance costs of the parking space and open yard. They also worry about noise and dust. However, according to previous research, people participating in the green parking project did not experience such problems, so the local government needs to examine ways to prevent citizens' negative prejudices against the green parking project.
Fire Prevention Measures and Characteristic of Warehouse Fire during Joseon Dynasty

It is told that disaster is learnt from disaster. In this aspect, the first approach to disaster today is to analyze the patterns and sizes of fire by building up the database for disasters occurred in the past. In order to preserve our cultural property buildings from fire, this study built up warehouse fires data table of the Joseon Dynasty period and analyzed its fire cases like below. According to warehouse fires data table, the total number of fire in the Joseon Dynasty period was 154 cases while there was a periodic relation between fire occurrence number and periodic dynasty. The most cause of warehouse fire is by blundering and about half of fired warehouse store the grain. Territorially, the Hansungbu(Seoul) is the highest rate of warehouse fire in all of regions and cities.
Interface from BIM to BEM and its Application to Uncertainty Analysis in Windows

This paper addresses an interface from Building Information Model (BIM) to Building Energy Model (BEM). The interface converts an IFC file exported from BIM authoring tools (e.g. Revit, ArchiCAD) to an IDF file (EnergyPlus input file). For seamless data exchange, a set of mapping rules with regard to space boundary, thermal properties of construction materials & fenestration, vendor-specific information, etc. were introduced. The interface was developed for (1) data sharing and data reuse between architects and simulationists, (2) quick and easy performance assessment during the design process, (3) minimizing experts' intervention and efforts. It is noteworthy that the interface can provide a features of Uncertainty and Sensitivity Analysis (UA, SA). In the paper, a case study of an office building is presented using the BIM-to-BEM interface.
An Analysis of Natural Ventilation Characteristics on the Effects of Wind Velocity and Solar Radiation

Atrium is a design element for the purpose of natural ventilation and natural lighting. In particular, it is possible to improve indoor thermal conditions and decrease energy usage load of a building through proper natural ventilation strategies. The natural ventilation can occur through temperature and pressure differences between the indoor and outdoor environment and across the atrium space. External wind speed and solar radiation influence the change of temperature differences and pressure differences significantly. However, it is difficult to analyze the exact nature of the wind speed and solar radiation and therefore natural ventilation rate as well. This study compares data from a CFD simulation model and actual data of an existing building to verify the validity of the simulation analysis. Then the natural ventilation rates of each temperature differences and pressure differences are analyzed using the CFD simulation. As a result, the increase in temperature differences increased the overall natural ventilation rate. However when there is an increase in external wind speed, the influence of solar radiation decreases and the temperature differences are also decreased. Temperature differences are the predominant influential factor until the external wind speed of 2.5m/s. After the wind speed of 2.5m/s, pressure differences are more influential factor than temperature differences. This study can be used as a basic material to provide operation strategies of atrium according to the seasonal outdoor conditions and to help setting the positions of openings in an atrium in design stage of a building construction.
Development of Junction-Travel Time Prediction Model through the Way-finding Characteristics Analysis

Recently, the buildings are the trend of enlargement and manhattanization. Particularly in case of multi-use facilities, it has the majority of maze structure and utilized for unspecified individuals who understand the space a little as their stakes are high to expose in fire and disaster. To prevent the fire and disaster, Republic of Korea implements Performance Based Design (PBD) but the simulation tool for required safe egress time analysis of PBD doesn't consider the way-finding characteristic though the junction routing selection or decision making time of occupants. Therefore, this paper organizes a mock-up set and analyzes human behavior characteristics of pedestrian targeting 70 people. The test was compartmentalized normal & smoke-filled condition and inquired into the behavior characteristics such as evacuation time, travel distance, walking speed though the experiment. Additionally, decision making time and characteristics of choosing the egress route in the junction were analyzed. Finally, based on the mock-up test results, suggest the junction-travel time prediction considering junction routing selection and decision making time of the pedestrian. Through this paper, the required safe egress time can be analyzed reflecting the decision making of pedestrian.
A Study on Timing Estimation for the Thermal Insulation Remodeling by Analyzing Annual Variation of Exterior Walls Thermal Insulation Performance in Public Buildings

Recently, Remodeling of performance improvement is on the rise as energy saving method for the old buildings. In this study, we figured out the thermal insulation performance of the current public buildings before the insulation remodeling of exterior walls at first. So, The target buildings of the 11 places were selected by elapsed year and building exterior material, and the thermal insulation performance was derived quantitatively. The purpose of this study is to estimate timing for the thermal insulation remodeling through analyzing insulation performance of exterior wall by elapsed year in public buildings. Through the field measuring data, Decrease curve in expected thermal insulation performance was shown. Also, The time of the exterior wall insulation remodeling was estimated. The results of this study were as follows; The point that measured U-Value higher then U-Value standard was estimated to be from 13.40 to 16.05 years. Therefore we judged that the plan about thermal insulation remodeling will be necessary at this time.
