Computational Analysis of Airflow in Upper Airway for Drug Delivery of Asthma Inhaler

Drug delivery in human upper airway was studied by the numerical simulation of oral airflow. We created an anatomically accurate upper airway model from CT scan data by using a medical image processing software (Mimics). The upper airway was composed of oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, and second generations of branches. Thin sliced CT data and meticulous refinement of model surface under the ENT doctor`s advice provided more sophisticated nasal cavity models. With this 3D upper airway models, numerical simulation was conducted by ANSYS/FLUENT. Automotive field specialist developed National Competency Standards for Automotive Maintenance to apply for the education and evaluation of automotive maintenance. National Competency Standards scope and system for Automotive Maintenance has been developed and provided Performance Criterion, knowledge, skill, attitude, and evaluation methods for each item. Also it has provided vocational basic knowledge level and qualification frame for automotive maintenance.
Investigation on Replacement Criteria for Aged Diesel Driven Power Generation Facility by Monte Carlo Simulation

The diesel driven power generation facility provides most of electricity of island region where is isolated from the main land power supply system. It is possible to extend the life of diesel driven power generation facility by periodic maintenance. However, the long-term use of diesel driven power generation facility increases the operating cost due to aging hardware and reduced plant efficiency. In other words, on-time replacement of aging diesel driven power generation facility reduces plant operation cost. The purpose of this study presents major indicators to represent the characteristics of the diesel generator and conducts sensitivity analysis using Monte Carlo analysis. In addition, status core which indicates quantitatively the state of the diesel driven power generation facility is defined and prepare the replacement criteria based on the state score.
Suggestion of Engineering Aesthetics as a Model of Convergence-Based Courses Between Engineering, Arts and Humanities

Convergence education is one of the most frequently studied topics in the academic world as well as other various areas of the society today. The importance of convergence-based course in engineering education has long been discussed and resulted in society-wide consensus with series of attempts to apply the theory. To bring about fruitful outcome through theses efforts, we have to establish the sustainable and systematic convergence education in engineering. With this goal, we will cover the critical comprehension on the modern studies divided by three concepts(the truth, the good, and the beauty) and review the notion of "Transdisciplinarity", thereby proposing the macro goals of the convergence-based course in engineering. To realize our goals, we will suggest "Engineering aesthetics" as a convergence-based course in engineering.
Moist Air Density Calculation for Air Condition

Generally the lower part of the Earth`s atmosphere, which is 20km above the ground, is called "air." The composition of this area is almost consistent consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, and other gases. Air density refers to the mass per unit volume of earth atmosphere. Though air is made of the mixed gases in a constant composition, the water vapor is one of the very changeable components. The density of moist air is lower than the dry one at the same temperature and pressure. As the density varies according to the pressure and temperature, this paper attempts to explore the main factors in the air quantity calculation by examining first the density calculation process according to the air property, and second the relation between the actual and standard air flow.
Design of Experiments for Optimization of Helicopter Flight Tests

In developing an aircraft, configuration determination and requirement proofing depend on flight test results. Since the flight tests require much time and high cost, systematic flight test planning and analysis are needed to reduce cost and development time. This paper presents a desirability function approach to present an integrative measure of vibration levels at important positions and suggests a fractional factorial design which is one of the experimental design methods to help perform systematic flight tests. A method to perform flight tests in stages is also suggested to further reduce the number of flight tests.
Effectiveness of Project Based Learning in Mechanical Drawing Education Using CAD

Although the subject of Mechanical Drawing is very important in mechanical engineering education, it is hard to teach the subject effectively, because it needs to carry out lectures and labs in parallel and needs substantially large portion of CAD lab time. In the department of Mechanical Systems and Design Engineering of SNUST, Project Based Learning is adopted to teach the subject of Mechanical Drawing. In this course, students experience to read and to draw drawings through the PBL project after the lectures on mechanical drawings. In this way, they can learn by heart the drawing skills and the operation of CAD software tools. In this paper, various PBL projects and teaching methods carried out in recent years are presented and the effects of the projects are discussed.
