Deterioration of Fibers and Their Products by Fungi (Part II) -Damage of Cellulosic Fabrics by Fungi-
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 19, issue 4, 1981, Pages 9~15
damages of cotton cloth and characteristics of fabroid degradation were studied by Chaetomium globosum and Aspergillus niger which presupposed as powerful erosive fungi to cellulose fiber by means of tensile strength. The results obtained are as follows: 1. the growth(rate) of fungi in malt extract agar was superior to potato agar for two weeks. 2. Chaetomium globosum showed mostly severe damage t the cotton cloth in malt extract agar media at pH 4.5. 3. Tensile strength was reduced with time by Aspergillus niger-coenzyme and Chaetomium globosum-coenzyme reaction. In comparison with Chaetomium globosum and Aspergillus niger, the former weaken tensile strength about 15.8% and the latter enfeebled 10.0% after 124 hours. 4. after 30 days the breeding of fungi in pH 4.5 malt extract agar media, critical damage of cotton cloth was observe, I. e., 92.4% damage by chaetomium globosum and 74.9% lose by aspergillus nige respectively.

An average was taken and a distribution of frequency clarified by interests in clothing field and clothing trends in every interest realm were researched. 3. Conclusion a) Artists are much interested especially in design and fashion, clothing shopping and a role of clothing psychology. b) Technicians are interested in Clothing construction and clothing management. c) Although girls working in company and bank show less interest than artists in a role of clothing psychology. d) The fact that Merchants care nothing for clothing shopping was found. e) Teachers, doctors, nurses, house wives have less interest in Clothing than the other workers. The younger women becomes much interested in clothing design and fashion, clothing shopping, and earns higher income and higher educated, women becomes much interested in psychological aspect of clothing.
Chemical and Gelation characteristics of Pectins Obtained from Ripened and Unripened Crabapples
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 19, issue 4, 1981, Pages 33~39
This study was attempted to determine the pectin contents of various fruits(Cherry, strawberry, plum, peach, apricot, apple, crabapple) and to investigate the changes in the properties of pectin and pectin gel during crabapple ripening. Methoxyl content, molecular weight and intrinsic viscosity were measured in ripened and unripened crabapples. In order to determine the characteristics of pectin gel, percent sag was measured by exchange Ridgelimeter, hardness and textural characteristics of jellies were measured by a penetrometer and a texturometer. The experimental results are summarized as follows: 1. The pectin contents of various fruits were 1.16% for cherry, 3.17% fir strawberry, 4.29% for plum, 5.51% for apricot, and pectin contents of peaches and apples varies depends on varieties from 4.54% to 5.61% to 6.52, respectively. The pectin contents of unripened and ripened crabapple wee 9.21% and 9.84% respectively, indicating that pectin content increased with fruit maturity. 2. The methoxyl contents, which was 6.61%~6.95%, was very low and it increased significantly during fruit ripening. Further, a decrease in acetyl content, intrinsic viscosity, molecular weight occurred during the ripening of crabapples. 3. The percent sag of crabapple jellies increased with fruit maturity from 5.26% to 5.79%, and the corresponding jelly grade decreased in ripened crabapple. 4. The hardness of jellies determined by a penetrometer was 79.15 pp.U. for ripened crabapple jelly, 90.62 pp.U. for unripe ned crabapple jelly. 5. In the textural characteristics of gels measured by a texturometer, the gels made from unripened crabapple were shown to have the highest values in hardness, cohesiveness, adhesiveness and gumminess.
Nutrition survey of the Aged on Jeju Island
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 19, issue 4, 1981, Pages 41~53
The purpose of this survey was to investigate the nutrient and food intake and food habits of the aged Jeju island. The survey was conducted to 102 persons, 50 persons aged 65 to 74 years and 52 persons aged 75 years over from July 5 to 25, 1981. The result obtained was summarized as follows; 1. Average nutrient intake per day Calorie intake was 1408 ㎉(which was 64% of RDA) for male and was 1343 ㎉ (84%) for female aged 65 to 74 years. For male aged 75 years over calorie intake was 1316㎉ (60%) and for female was 1292㎉ (81%). According to the intake of calorie, the ratio of carbohydrate, protein, fat, were average 74.8%, 15.1%, 10.1%. Protein intake was insufficient quantiatively, but the proportion of animal protein to total protein intake were 26.1 to 33.5%. Other nutrient intake, such as Ca, vitamin A and C were lower than the recommended dietary allowance. 2. Food intake In per capita food consumption were 69.1g to 744.7g and average 320.1g of cereal (125.1g of rice and 160.5g of barley) and 63.9g of fishes. Total food consumption and vegetables were diminished by older age. 3. Correlation assessment The correlation coefficient between residental stus lived with family, high activity, good health, and nutrient intake were significant (P<0.05). Poor teeth had influence on less nutrient intake, but was not significant. 4. Food preferences Food liked over 70% of subjects were persimmon, fishes, leef, tomato, and boiled rice with barley, etc. owing to tender food, economical reasons, seasonal influence, and food habits. Food disliked over 20% of subjects were instant noodle, small sardin, boiled rice, and ice-crea, etc. The majority of subjects had never had the processing food, such as ham, sausage, butter and margarine, etc.

Conjugal Role Structure in the Purchasing Decision Process
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 19, issue 4, 1981, Pages 73~84
The purpose of this study was to examine the conjugal role structure in the purchasing decision process : problem precognition, information seeking and evaluating, final decision, and actually making the purchase, through a survey of the degree of conjugal involvement. The specific objectives were 1) to examine the conjugal role structure and differences at each phase of the decision process in purchasing of residence and twelve durable household consumer goods, 2) to determine the differences between conjugal role structure in each phase of the purchasing decision process and conjugal demographic factors(number of years married, conjugal education level, conjugal occupation, and income). Questionnaires were given to randomly selected husbands and wives in /seoul I October, 1980. data from the 275 responses were analyzed by percentage, mean, and F-test(analysis of variance). The results are as follows : 1) The conjugal role structure for the purchasing decision process of residence and twelve durable household consumer goods was analyzed by percent. It was found that role structure was specialized by the type of item. for instance, furniture and home appliances were purchased by wives; amusement goods and cars were purchased by husbands' and residence was purchased by joint. However, conjugal role structure in the purchasing decision process differed by phased of process : (1) Wives involvement in the phase of problem recognition was greater than their involvement in information seeking and evaluating, but husbands' involvement a in the phase of information seeking and evaluating was slightly greater than their involvement in problem recognition. (2) Husbands' involvement in the phase of making the final decision was far greater than their involvement I information seeking and evaluating. (3) Wives' involvement in the actually making of the purchase was far greater than their involvement in making the final decision. 2) Only one among conjugal demographic factors was significantly related to conjugal role structure. That, is, conjugal role structure in the purchasing decision process showed that the wives' involvement I making the final decision and in actually making the purchase increased with number of years married.
