The Relationships between Age, Socio-ecoomic Status and Clothing Behavior of Korean Men
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 25, issue 1, 1987, Pages 1~10
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between demographic variables and seven aspects of clothing behavior of adult males, and to attempt to develop the measurement of men's clothing behavior. Age was ranked by five gradation (20∼60 ages) and socio-economic status was divided into three categories (high, middle, low) based on the subjects' education, occupation and economic status. Six aspects of clothing comfort, satisfaction, status symbol, conformity, fashion interest and clothing acceptance I were assessed with Koh's, Chung's and Lee's questionnaires. Clothing acceptance by line-drawing of clothing syles representing different levels of formality for occasions designed to measure the awareness of appropriate clothing category of business suits. The questionnaires in this study were administered to a sample of men living in Seoul. The sample was drawn by the random-cluster sampling method. The data from 362 respondants were analysed. To determine the internal validity of clothing behavior mesurement, factor analysis was computed, whereas to determine the reliability, Cronbach's alpha was calculated. The statistical methods adopted were correlation, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression. The results obtained in this study were as follows: 1) As for clothing behavior instruments, items dealing with status symbol and fashion nterest were proved to be satisfactory as a measurement of adult males. Eight factors emerged on clothing acceptance Ⅱ, most of which were representing unappropriate clothing choice for occasion. 2) Demographic variables were significantly related to the adult males' clothing behavior. (1) Age was positively related to clothing conformity but negatively to fashion interest. (2) Socio-economic status was positively related to clothing satisfaction, status symbol, and fashion interest but negatively to clothing confort. (3) When age was controlled, socio-economic status was negatively related to comfort in 40∼50s age group only, and negatively related to clothing conformity in 20∼30s age group only. (4) Four subscales of clothing acceptance Ⅱ representing unappro-priate clothing practice for selected occasions were negatively related to age and/or socio-economic status.
A Study on the Crease Recovery of Plain Woven Fabrics
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 25, issue 1, 1987, Pages 11~18
The purpose of this study was to investigate the crease recovery and the elastic recovery as a function of the direction of plain woven fabrics. The crease recovery was measured by Mosanto's Method and the elastic recovery was investigated by Autograph for ten kinds of plain woven fabric samples. The results were as follows; 1. Values of crease recovery were in the order of bias>weft>warp. 2. The lengthening of recovery time had a little effect on crease recovery. 3. The directions of crease recovery were affected by that of thread twist. 4. The linearity was shown between total crease recovery and warp-weft crease recovery. 5. The linearity was found between crease recovery and elastic recovery in the fabrics.
A Study on Transformation of Korea man's hairstyle
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 25, issue 1, 1987, Pages 19~34
This thesis is for the study of hair style and consciousness concerning Korean awris hairs. Our nation had been originally considered to be a people without decorating their hairs. The adults however used a bundle of hair which was twirled, and the bachelors wore original hair befor wiman chosun in B.C. 194. Since then this twirled bundle of hair had been consistently used until the end of the chosun period from the Three-Kingdom period, except Mongolian hair style which was used for one hund-red years during the Won's oppression period at the time of Koryo. The bachelor's hair style not being adorned was developed into that of twirled bundle of hair which was used for on the Three-Kingdom period to the Koryo period, but this was also transformed into the current hair style ？ mainly to the decree of short-cut hair style in 1895 and the prevolent western clothes. The origin of meins hair style in Korea was a hair without decoration which was same as that of Ski-tie people in Western country, but our style was different from that of Manju and Mongolian people who have same kinship relationshup. And our nation was greatly influenced by the Chinese culture in view of the Twin-Knats style of the unmarried. Our people's consciousness uwderlying in hairs shows resped for seniors, standard between dults and adolescents, magics, and desine for ornaments.
A Study on Genernation and Decreasement of Formaldehyde
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 25, issue 1, 1987, Pages 35~42
Since the 1930's, a rapid development of resin processing has contributed to making our clothing life convenient and rich. Wrinkle considered as the largest defect of cellulose fiber is generated from fixation of molecules which are divided by compression or crookedness. It can be protected by building a bridge between the molecules the joint combination of the inside of the fiber. The formaldehyde reactive resin which is used in processing resin is a chemical compound with more than 2 N-methylol or N-alkoxymethylol group and a chemical compound with N-methylol shows the property of W.W and D.P through the very complex bridge-bonding reaction under the OH group of cellulose and acid catalyst. However, if the processing is excessively carried out, resin-processed textile emits the formaldehyde when the bridge bonding agent reacts to amine type under the acid condition or the formaldehyde remains in the condition of non-reaction or the resin combinates by itself, or the methylol group of non-reactive resin is hydrolyzed due to the insufficient themomagnetic treatment.
Non-durable Flame Retardant Finish of Cotton Fabric by Borax and Boric Acid
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 25, issue 1, 1987, Pages 43~50
Non-durable flame retardant finish, borax/boric acid mixed solution, was applied to cotton fabric with pad-dry method. The LOI(limited oxygen index) was measured as the measare of the flame retardant effect. The TGA was investigated to know the thermal behavior of the samples. In addition, the solubility of the solutions was investigated. The results were as follows: 1) There was a synergism of flame retardant effect in the borax/boric acid mixed solution treatment and the maximum synergism was shown around the ratio of 7 : 3 2) After the borax/boric acid solution treatment, the degradation temperature was lowered and degraded at the larger temp range with slower rate. The residual char length also increased. 3) The solubility of borax/boric acid become higher when the ratio of borax/boric acid became similar. Compositions from 80/20 to 40/60 borax/boric acid mixtures were solubilized well in room temperatuare or warmwater therefor there was no problem for home use.

Discrimination & Current Usage of Traditional Furniture
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 25, issue 1, 1987, Pages 69~82
The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of discrimination and current usage of traditional furniture by people in contemporary society. Interest and preference for traditional furniture were also examined. The major findings were; 1) The traditional furniture owned by respondents were mainly document chest(mungab), dining table(soban) and open etagre(sabang-takja). Book cases(chaikjang) were rarely owned. Function of some furniture such as single shelf chest(danchung-jang), kitchen cabinet(chantak) and desk(suban) have been changed. 2) Highly discriminated tiradtional furniture were document chest(mungab), wardrobe(chest-jang) and dining table(soban). The degree of discrimination of letter rack(gobi), kitchen cabinet(chantak) and bookcases(chaikjang), however, were very low. 3) There was significant relation between discriminating ability and interest for the furniture and the status of posession of it. 4) Some socio-demographic variables were related to distriminating ability of the furniture. The group in high educational and economic level showed high discriminating ability of the furniture than those in lower levels. 5) These was positive correlation between discriminating ability and interest. The more interest, the higher discriminating ability. 6) Most preferred traditional furniture at present were three shelved clothing chest(samchung-jang), document chest(mungab), wardrobe chest(euiguri-jang) and open etagere(sabang-takja).

Specifically, this study attempted to find the basic information of the detailed planning and the establishment of criteria of the housing unit for three generation family. The results of this study were as follows. 1. Planning of the housng unit for three generation family, it had to be taken over residency areas for elderly especially for keeping privacy each other. 2. It was necessary the criteria of housing standards for eldery based on their housing characteristics. 3. Considering the psychological characterstics and life style of the elderly, it should be suggest that they could live easily with their next generation in the samecommunity. Also, the public policy should take over the housing unit for three generation family.
Problems and Regulation Methods of Present General Clause Concerned by Consumer Protetion
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 25, issue 1, 1987, Pages 93~104
The purpose of this study is to analyze the problems of present general clause to bring about consumer damages and to search for means to regulate general clause. For the purpose of this study, datas of the research on the actual condition about various trade general clause were used. And the research about various trade general clause was enforced by the government from September to December in 1984. The kind of general clause of an object of analysis is credit card, sales by visit, insurance trade, and travel intercession. As the result of analysis, many problems are found in every general clause and consumer damage by general clause are proved to be a serious state. As the means of the regulation of general clause, there are judicial regulation, administrative regulation, legislative regulation, and the establishment of a supervision committee of general clause. These four means must be cooperated mutually for the substantial regulation.
A Study on Wives' Marital Satisfaction and Related Variables
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 25, issue 1, 1987, Pages 105~119
The purpose of this study is to investigate the influences of demographic, personal and psychosocial variables on the wives' marital satisfaction in order to develop theories about the stablility of modern families. The data, collected from 490 mothers living in Seoul, is analyzed by statistical methods, such as Frequency Distribution, Pearson's Correlation, One-Way ANOVA, Scheffee-test and Multiple Regression Analysis. The major findings are as follows: 1) In my study, the Marital Satisfaction Scale consists of 7 dimensions; of which affective communication, problem-solving communication, and companionship are comparatively important variables. 2) Of demographic variables, wives' educational level is an influencing variable in 6 dimensions, and family monthly income, in general satisfaction. 3) Of personal variables, sex role attitude is a significantly influencing independent variable in satisfaction with children area and self actualization, variable in problem-solving communication area. 4) Of psychosocial variables, role enactment, role consensus, and role strain are proved to be influencing variables, but role salience is not. Also, role enactment is the most influencing independent variable in almost areas of marital satisfaction. 5) By given independent variables, variance is explained 30% of all. The implication that can be inferred from the above findings is that psychosocial variables are more important than demographic variables, and that personal variables such as androgyny, self-actualization should be encouraged to further research.
A Study of Relationship between Memory Variable and Cognitive Development in Children
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 25, issue 1, 1987, Pages 121~127
The purpose of this study was to investigate the importance of mental capacity and to see whether it can be a barometer to predict childrne's cognitive development. The instruments used were Pictoral Test of Intelligence to select homogeneous samples, Cucui Scale for their M-power and Conservation Test. The results showed that M-power develops as age increases, and it can be a strong variable to predict their cognitive development. It has been demonstrated that capacity increases developmentally but whether this reflects changes in capacity perse, or in the efficient use of that capacity is a debatable issue. More study needs to be repeated for this matter.
