Variables that Affect Dating Violence Among College Students(I) - Focused on inflictor-
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 10, 1999, Pages 27~42
The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of dating violence and to determine what variables served as predicting indicators among unmarried cortege students. The major findings were as follows; 1. Those who inflicted psychological aggression of the sample were 69%, physical violence 40%, and sexual violence 23%. As the sample indicates, dating violence among college students is a distribingly common phenomenon. 2. Both sexes reciprocally inflicted psychological aggression and physical violence. But males were more likely to inflict sexual violence and injury to their parkers. 3. Significant predictors of dating violence for both males and females were conflicts in the dating relationship, and a need to control one's partner. Despite the overlap of predictors for males and females, enough differences were found to warrant gender-specific models of dating violence. For males, violence experienced during childhood from their father was an important factor, while for females, school violence was an important factor.
A Study on the Transition and the Terminology of Sanitary Spaces in Korean Houses Based on the Analysis of Novels
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 10, 1999, Pages 43~54
The purpose of this study is to clarify the transition and terminology of sanitary spaces in Korean houses, based on the analysis of novels. The resets are as follows. The sanitary space huts been developed in all aspects including locations and facility levels. Duikan, Pyunso, Tongsi, Whajangsil, and Yoksil were the terminology of sanitary space that appeared often in the novels. Before 1930, the word most frequently mentioned was Duikan. Whajangsil and Yoksil appeared shortly between 1930-1750. Duikan, Pyunso, and Tongsi were presented again between 1950-1970. Whajangsil and Yoksil were substituted for most other words after 1980. Other than the usual function of sanitary space, these areas also used as hiding spaces and places where one could observe others secretly. The sanitary spaces in most novels were located behind kitchens, nearby fences or stables and were typically unpleasant places with a messy dung tub, no lighting system, and a shed-like construction.

A Study of Coping Behavior Types of Private Education Expenditure
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 10, 1999, Pages 67~80
The purpose of this study is to classify the types of coping behaviors of the burden of private education expenditure and to identify the characteristics of the households representing certain coping behaviors. For empirical analysis, the data of the study were collected from 868 housewives living in Seoul and Sungnam. The statistical methods adopted for data analysis are frequency, percentage, mean, Factor analysis, Cluster analysis and Logit analysis. In this study, it is assumed that the coping behaviors are classified by three factors - financial management, negative, positive. The reset of the logit analysis shows that private education expenditure and subjective burden are the most critical variables for classifying the coping behaviors.
A Study of the Anbang Usage and Furniture in the Oiam-Ri Folk Village in Chung-Nam Province
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 10, 1999, Pages 81~90
This study investigated the present traditional Korean farmhouse based on a survey of 30 households from Oiam-Ri folk Village in Chung-Nam Province. This study was primarily concerned with the present housing; the size and plan of the house, lighting and heating, the finishing materials of anbang(the master's bedroom or ondol) and the kinds of fumiture. I was also interested in identifying the socio-demographic and physical variables that influenced the housing, both the ordinary farm households and the descendent of nobility households. Bibliographical studies, cultural approaches, field surveys with tape recordings, and questionnaires were used to collect the data. The results showed that the types of house plans were mixed from the southern region(one-line type) and middle region(courtyard type). The heating system and the fuel for the ondol anbang has changed entirely from wood burning system to oil boiler system. The finishing material of the anbang floor changed from traditional oil paper and straw mats to vinyl flooring. Traditional fumiture and small decor items are disappearing and are being replaced by modem items, but the descendents of the nobility household kept many traditional type of fumiture and small decor items.

Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 10, 1999, Pages 91~106
The purpose of this study is to analyze empirically the influences of different types of household income and asset in the consumption expenditures of homeowners and lessees with deposit. The data used in this study were the 1996 Korea Household Panel Study. 1,512 households data were selected for the final analysis. The statistical methods adopted for data analysis were frequency, percentage, one-way ANOVA, crosstabs, multiple regression analysis, and chow-test. The results are as follows: (1) There were the differences between three groups in the expenditure levels of each consumption category and the shares of each consumption category of total expenditures. (2) The change of labor income influenced more significantly consumption expenditures of homeowners and lessees with deposit, compared to changes of different types of household income. Also homeowners and lessees with deposit changed their consumption expenditures in different ways to changes of various types of household income. (3) Homeowners increased more significantly their consumption expenditures to increase of net asset than lessees with deposit.
Variables Influencing the Adaptation to Wife Abuse -Based on the Double ABCX model -
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 10, 1999, Pages 107~122
Based on the theoretical framework of the Double ABCX model of family stress and adaptation, this study was to analysis the causal relationships of stressors (psychological sexual, and physical wife abuse), personal resources (self-efficacy and self-esteem) and social support(emotional and informational support), appraisal(positive appraisal and downward comparisons) with adaptation (psychological well-being and somatic symptoms). Self-administered questionnaire method was used to collect data from 264 wives residing in Chonbuk-do and Kyonggi-do area. The causal model was tested and modified by the maximum likelihood method using UISREL 7 program. Results showed that wife abuse had effect on adaptation indirectly through the latent variables of personal resource and appraisal, which influenced the adaptation directly. In addition, social support indirectly affect the adaptation through personal resource and appraisal. It was also found that all these variables explained 27.6% of the total variance of wives'adaptation, and that personal resources was the most powerful variable in predicting the adaptation of the wives.
Dimensions and Assessment of Korean Parenting Style
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 10, 1999, Pages 123~133
The purpose of the study was to develop the parenting style scale which is reflecting cultural background of Korean parent's parenting for their children. The instalment was designed based on the literature reviews and on the Baumrind's parenting style. A total of three hundred and sixty two mothers whose children from first and second grade in elementary school completed the Questionnaires. The questionnaires consisted with the items addressing different types of parenting style which include love and care, encouragement of independence, enjoyment in parenting, communication, control, control of aggressiveness, strategies of control , request of maturity. Factor of analysis was applied to examine validity of Korean parenting style scale. Based on the factor analysis, 33 items selected for final questionnaire and two factors discovered. The first factor which named 'warmth'included 20 items such as love and care toward their children, communication, enjoyment in parenting, encouragement toward independency. The second factor which named'control'included 13 items such as control of children's behavior and discipline of children. Warmth factor accounted for 46% of variance and control factor accounted for 18% of variance. Internal consistency was also checked. Although warmth and control factor represented a moderate internal consistency, control factor showed lower correlations then warmth factor. The reliability estimates (Cronbach alpha) were. 87 and 71 for warmth and control factor respectively. Korean parenting style scale can be used to address the appropriateness of Baumrind's theoretical assumptions in parenting style as well as to examine parenting style for Korean population. However, this instalment was developed with Korean mothers only. Further analysis need to be addressed with fathers.
