Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 12, 1999, Pages 13~28
This study aimed to analyze the process of courtship form having date and marriage toward women who had job before marriage. The objects were 27.36 years old and had 9.59 months marital life at average. This study conducted structured questionnaires using the reflection of spouse selection procedure. By using collected data through questionnaires, it conducted descriptive statistics, cluster analysis and t-test. The type of marriage would be divided into the emotional marriage group and the implemental marriage group The emotional marriage group had longer dating time and more satisfaction of spouse selection than the implemental group. On value variable, the emotional marriage group had more subjective selection standard and more expectation social and emotional benefit than the latter group. On search variable, the emotional marriage group estimated the relation stability and satisfied the relation with spouse more than the implemental marriage group and expected the less possibility to meet new partner.
A Study on the Life Satisfaction of the Rural Olders near Taegu Metropolitan City
Seo Mal-Hee ; Yoo Ka-Hyo ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 12, 1999, Pages 29~41
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships of the social demographic variables, health variables, and family environmental variables to life satisfaction of rural olders, to identify their problems and to find good directions to enhance the welfares for the rural olds who are in poor life situations. The results are as follows : 1. The male old's satisfaction were higher than the female old's one. The life satisfaction didn't show differences according to the age or religion. But, the higher educational level, the higher life satisfaction was shown. The higher the economic status, the higher life satisfaction was shown. 2. The degree of life satisfaction had meaningful differences on the number of disease and health situation. The more disease they have, the lower life satisfaction was shown. 3. The life satisfaction of the rural old was highest when they live together with their married children than living alone. When they have spouse, the life satisfaction was high. And, as the relation with their children was close, the life satisfaction was high. So, it is thought the children have great influences to the rural old. 4. In the multiple regression analysis, It was found that physical health, the relationship with their children, perceived economic status, and unemployment of their children were effective variables in the old's life satisfaction.

For this purpose the data of consumer education practiced during 1996, 1997 were gathered from 33 consumer organizations. From the survey we can find that the financial and human resources of consumer organization are too limited and the selection of education theme were made nonsystematically. Based on these results and literature survey the contents and strategies were suggested for the adult education of private consumer organizations.
A Study on the Wearing Comfort of Firefighter's Protective Clothing
Chung Jung-Sook ; Lee Youn-Soon ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 12, 1999, Pages 59~67
This study analyzed firefighter's actual wearing condition of turnout gear The results are as fellows: 1. When a firefighter is employed, Korea applies only the minimum of firefighters stature and weight but America applies both the minimum and the maximum. The choice of size is highly related with stature more than chest circumference. 2. The satisfaction degree of thermal barrier is very low, 3%. They used rubber gloves rather than heatproof gloves. This is more serious in small country like 'up', 'myun' than in cities. For laundering, they used sprinkling method with firefighting hose. Firefigthers hoped that their clothes could be classified tv the seasons and fire places. 3. frefighter had high unsatisfaction with the movement of hands and leges in the aspect of movement adjustability, air permeability, weight, body temperature regulation, and breathing in the hygenic aspect, fire resistance, thermal resistance property, water proof, chemical reactivity and electrical conductivity. Thev were also unsatisfied with water proof boots and gloves. They were generally satisfied with helmets but firefighters over 90kg of weight were rather unsatisfied. 4. The satisfaction degree for physical fitness was very low and the items with which they were not satisfied depend on physical features. 5. To develop turnout gear, they wanted changes in design, material and size. Reflection tape need to be replaced with high quality products and they wanted the use of velcro and zipper in fastening system.
Relationships Between Bone Mineral Density and Menopausal Symptoms, Life Habits, Preference of Food Saltiness in Postmenopausal Women
Lee Bo-Kyung ; Kim Eun-Mi ; Chang Yu-Kyung ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 12, 1999, Pages 69~78
This study was desingned to investigate the relationships between bone mineral density(BMD) of the lumbar spine(
) and menopausal symptoms, health conciousness, bone health status, activity intensity, preference of food saltiness in 41 postmenopausal women. Lumbago was main menopausal symptom, and BMD of the subjects with lumbago was significantly low compared with BMD of the subjects without lumbago(p<0.01). BMD of the subjects who felt healthy was significantly higher than BMD of them who felt inbetween or weak(p<0.05). BMD of the subjects who had good bone status of the lumbar spine was significantly higher than BMD of them who had bent lumbar spine or experienced bone fracture(p<0.001). BMD of the subjects who were active was significantly higher than BMD of them whose activity was moderate or sedentary(p<0.05). BMD of the subjects who preferred very insipid taste was significantly high compared with BMD of them who preferred insipid, moderate or salty taste, and BMD of the subjects who preferred very salty taste was significantly low(p<0.01). This study suggested that decrease of BMD of the lumbar spine was significantly related to lumbago, bone fracture and bent lumbar spine. And when they were active and not preferred salty taste, bone loss of the lumbar spine was decreased.
Development of the Generative Fathering Scale
Yee Young-Hwan ; Lee Jin-Sook ; Cho Bok-Hee ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 12, 1999, Pages 79~89
The purpose of this study was to develop the generative fathering scale to measure fathers' active involvement of parenting. Subjects were 188 fathers of early childhood from Jeonju. To begin with, the concept of generative fathering was discussed in the theoretical review, and then the measurement was comprised of two dimensions(the parental involvement of fathers and paternal responsibility) The parental involvement of fathers : thirty of 37 items were selected through the item analysis, and that 30 items were analyzed by factor analysis. The result of factor analysis indicated that the parental involvement of fathers comprised of three factors(developmental support, caregiving and monitoring, shared activities). paternal responsibility : this was analyzed through the same process above, two factors(responsibility as a resource provider and responsibility as a child-rearing)were extracted by factor analysis. The construct validity was supported and the internal consistency of this two sub-scale appeared to be at an acceptable level, and were considered to be useful way to measure generative fathering.
Generative Fathering and Toddler Attachment Security
Yee Young-Hwan ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 12, 1999, Pages 91~102
The purpose of this study was to investigate the father-child relationship. The final sample for the data analyses included 83 three-year old children and their lathers. The instrument of study was the 'generative fathering'(by Yee et al, 1999). This measurement consisted two areas, first is the father's involvement in child rearing, and second is the responsibility on child rearing. And the child attachment security was observed through Attachment Q-Set(Waters, 1987) in the child's home. The results were following: 1. The mean of the child's attachment security was .33 and the range of attachment security was from -.07 to .79. 2. Father had higher responsibility on rearing, more involved in the child care. 3. The child's attachment security was predicted by the father's involvement in rearing. The father's responsibility didn't show the relationship with the child's attachment security. Especially among the subcategories of involvement, the activity with child had a significant relation to attachment security. So the father's interaction with child was meaningful for the child to develop the internal working model.

Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 12, 1999, Pages 125~140
This study aimed to examine the sexual discrimination in the labor market. For this purpose, this study compared the work conditions, perception of sexual discrimination in the work place and job satisfaction by sex, and showed some effects of the independent variables on the two dependent variables; the perception of sexual discrimination in the work place and job satisfaction. The data were from KLFI(1995)'s National data and two OLS (Ordinary Least Square) Regression models were used. The results of this study were as follows. There were significant differences in the working conditions between two sex groups. The perception of sexual discrimination in the work place was a little low and the difference by sex was not found. The variables related to the work were more important to predict the perception of sexual discrimination in the work place rather than the general characteristics of the sample. The male workers were more satisfied with their work than the female workers. The satisfaction of their work was significantly different by the variables related to the work.

Song Mal-Hee ; Kim Myung-Cha ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 12, 1999, Pages 153~168
With rapid changes in modern societies, abrupt increases in knowledges and fast conversions in technologies have caused serious generation gaps among members of the family. This have generated problems for housewives who is generally in charge of maintaining and coordinating a family with limited life experiences and knowledges earned only through several years of school education, to resolve every problems evoked in their families. This has made us to realize the needs for the education related to the family life. Especially for middle-aged housewives, this type of education is absolutely required to maintain ideal family relationships, and this can be accomplished by improving their abilities and potentials. The 8-step program to improve the relationship between middle-aged housewives and their children was developed. Overall, this program improved the self-respect and psychological well-being of middle-aged housewives. Also, the relationship with their children was greatly improved through better understanding and communication. This was solely reflected on the quantitative evaluations through pre-and post-tests, so that all the participants scored higher in the post-test.

Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 12, 1999, Pages 179~192
Thesedays, Home Economic in Korea is faced with the danger of a discord caused by the outer pressure of reorganization in the process educational reformation. The first purpose of this study was to examine the characteristics of the informatized society and the changes of families lived in the informatized society. The second was to assert to strengthen Home Economics in the informatized society. Ultimately we suggested an integrative and interdisciplinary model about Home Economics from the ecological and informative perspective. This model consist with three parts: Human development(Child studies, Gerontology, & Adolescent studies) and family studies division(Family relation studies, family resource management studies, & Consumer studies) Environmental division(Clothing and Textiles, Food and Nutrition, & Housing) and HEIS(Home Economics Information System). This classification is correspond with the one Human-Behavioral Environment and Human-Constructed Environment of Ecological theory.

Chung Hee-Ja ; Chang Jee-Hae ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 37, issue 12, 1999, Pages 193~203
This study was executed to show influence of material and property of sportswear to physiological responses of body and comfort sensation and to supply basic research data about comfortable sportswear Trainning wear was manufactured with cotton(C) and hygroscopically treated polyester material (FP), and its properties of material were measured. Then rectal temperature, skin temperature, heart rate, weight loss, clothing microclimate and subjective sensation was estimated with study of wearing with these sportswear and examined the influence that it got to physiological responses of body and sensation. Health adult men were selected for subjects and executed at climatic chamber of temperature,
R.H. Conclusively sportswear of hygroscopically treated polyester is a favorable functional material. So far factor that affect to physiological comfort sensation has been explained mostly by moisture regain but in our experiment, it turned out that air permeability, water absorption velocity and dynamic oater absorption etc. were affecting factors. So according to this result, air permeability and moisture permeability should be considered with transmittance of temperature moisture for development of comfort material
