Development and Application of Performance Assessment Materials for Home Economics Education
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 39, issue 10, 2001, Pages 1~17
This study is to develop cooperative learning aids for Clothing and Textiles classes, and to develop methods and tools for performance assessment. We have surveyed 127 students with‘class evaluation’questionnaire after teaching 9 classes through developed materials. As a result, we found that students preferred to cooperative learning and they tended to do their best in their assigned role in the cooperative learning. Meanwhile, we also found that they understood the assignment of performance assessment well and they felt lack of time to handle given tasks. It shows that we need to be flexible when applying a teaching method in a way that teachers give student more options to choose their duty and time span. Although a few students create a problem and delay their duty as disturbing cooperation in a group we anticipate that the developed teaching aids and performance assessment will be a great help to improve Home Economics classes. In closing, we believe that we can be open-minded Home Economics educators that continue to work on improving classes through developing diverse teaching aids and performance assessment.

Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 39, issue 10, 2001, Pages 29~37
The purpose of this study is to investigate the preference and the use of the bedclothes. The data were obtained from market research of 12 department stores which were located in Seoul, Daegu and Busan, and from questionnaires completed by 356 women in Daegu area whose age was 20 years and older. The SPSS package was used for data analysis which includes frequency, percentage,
test, ANOVA, and Scheffe test. Cotton was the most popular fiber for coverings and fillings. Color preference was in the order of pastel, non-chromatic, vivid, and white color and pattern preference was in order of floral, check, and stripe pattern. Practicality, color and fabric were the most important factors and price was the most unsatisfied factor when bedclothes were purchased. Also, information for bedclothes was obtained mainly through internet shopping, home shopping or catalog shopping.
A Case Study on Housing Alterations and Construction for the Elderly and the Disabled - Comparison among Korea, Japan, and Sweden -
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 39, issue 10, 2001, Pages 39~53
Housing is the most important factor for the elderly and the disabled to live safely and independently. If they want to stay in their familiar community as long as possible, to support their stay in their house must be needed. The purpose of this study was to investigate the housing alterations for the elderly and the disabled. To accomplish the purpose of this study, three cases that had altered housing to fit their needs in three countries, were selected. In Korean case of alterations for the disabled, bathroom and kitchen were the altered spaces in the house. But active alterations were not done, because of the limited expense for the alterations and housing ownership, rented. In one case of housing construction for the elderly in Japan, there was no level difference in the interior. Two bedrooms were provided for the husband and the wife, because of the difference of time to bed. The sunroom for enjoying the outside of the nature was provided. In swedish case, due to the supports of the government and local authority, the house was altered at many spaces such as bathroom, kitchen, ramp at the entrance, elevator and so forth. In conclusion, sufficient supports of government and community services can increase the housing quality of people. The ultimate goal of housing alterations must be done not for the elderly and disabled but for all people.

Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 39, issue 10, 2001, Pages 55~67
The purpose of this study were 1) to find out the benefits sought factors and segment the customers of internet shopping mall, 2) to find out the store image factors of internet shopping mall, and 3) to analyze the internet shopping mall market using perceptual map of segmented groups. The questionnaires dealing with attribute dimension of internet shopping mall image, benefits sought, and demographic variables were selected from the previous studies or were developed for this study. The data from 319 respondents which were collected through the internet survey site was analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA, and
-test. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Benefit sought by consumer in internet shopping malls was found to include six different factors: assortments of products, search efficiency, brand/fashionability, delivery convenience, promotion service and informativeness. 2. As a result of subdividing the consumers, four distinctive groups were formed on the basis of benefit factors: multi-benefit oriented group, convenience oriented group, brand oriented group and low-benefit oriented group. Demographic traits such as education and income level were proven to significantly differentiate the benefit segments. 3. In the structural components of internet shopping-malls image, product/information, service/convenience and economy were drawn from attribute dimensions. 4. 12 perceptual maps of internet shopping mall image were constructed and each ideal vector were drawn.

Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 39, issue 10, 2001, Pages 83~95
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations among mothers' and teachers' perceptions of role-efficacy, role-efficacy, attributions, and young children's cognitive and social development. The subjects were 163 mothers and teachers of 5-year-old children attending to kindergartens in Korea. The results showed that cognitions of mothers were very similar to those of teachers. When they perceived difficulty in enhancing children's cognitive and social development, they tended to think that it would be more efficient for someone else to help the children. Children's cognitive and social development were not positive especially when the mothers and teachers showed high role-difficulty and low role-efficacy.
A Study on Standardization of Pattern Design of Korean Men's Traditional Trousers
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 39, issue 10, 2001, Pages 97~109
It is thought that a composition of trousers is related to fabrics with single breadth. Therefore, trousers are designed with pattern using this fabrics with single breadth. However, in the old pattern of trousers, the breadth of 33cm-35cm was not considered in designing patterns. In this context, deciding which pattern design is better is not easy as there are a variety of estimation methods. So in this study, standardization of drafting is pursued by an objective pattern design. For this, a base angle of the trouser closely relating to a form and function was measured and using the height and the base angle, a trouser pattern design was tried. For a measurement of the base angle, 5 subject were selected. They are 25-29 year-old male graduates with fine physical standard. The base angle was measured with symphysis pubis point as a standard when subjects sat with their legs crossed, when they stood with their legs open (not forced artificially) and when they laid down with their legs open. The distance between a knee inside joint and knees was measured three times and the resultant value was used for the pattern design. For a design of trousers, the height was applied and the base angle was fixed. As a pattern drawing, using the height, a base angle and circumference of the hip, a trouser was designed. The production method for the pattern design is as follow: (1) The length formula, is height +
(2) The hip girth formula is
(3) A crotch angle is fixed at
. (4) The ratio of outer leg length to leg width is 5 : 8. (5) The component ratio of the upper outer leg length to the pant length is 5 : 8. (6) The ratio of the division point of front right inner leg length and left inner width to upper outer leg length is 5 : 8.
A Survey of Dietary Behavior and Fast Food Consumption by High School Students in Seoul
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 39, issue 10, 2001, Pages 111~124
The relation between dietary behavior and fast food consumption was investigated among 117 male and 164 female students at a high school in Seoul. The main reason for eating fast foods was convenience. In addition, they used fast food chain stores as a get together place with friends. They enjoyed taste of fast foods as well as the atmosphere of stores but they regarded fast foods somewhat expensive for high school students. Among them, 30.1% of the female students had irregular meals and they ate more irregularly than males. More students took too much or too little amount(45.3% of male, 52.5% of female students) than those who took adequate amount. They skipped breakfast the most frequently because they are in a hurry. Most students took snacks once a day and they considered taste of snacks was more important than nutrition or price. They consumed less calorie, calcium, iron, and riboflavin than RDA. Mean caloric intakes of males and females were 79.0% and 97.1% of RDA, respectively. Mean calcium and iron intakes were less than 70% of RDA. Among many factors that may influence nutrient intake, anthropometric indices turned out to be the most influential. Body weight showed significantly positive correlation with caloric, protein, thiamin, and ascorbic acid intakes in male students where both height and weight showed positive relation with calorie, protein, and iron intakes in females. Therefore, this study suggested that fast food stores should make efforts to provide more foods and beverages which are supplemented with calcium and iron. Also, better nutrition education programs should be established to improve high school students dietary habit to complement these nutrients.

Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 39, issue 10, 2001, Pages 153~168
The objects of this study were to find out the effects of peer relations and perceived cognitive self-competence according to 1) grade, sex, and self-care, 2) parental social status and monitoring. 429 3rd- and 6th-graders (238 boys and 191 girls) were included as subjects. For measuring variables, RCP, Harter's Perceived Cognitive Self-Competence Rating Scale, and Parental Monitoring Questionnaire based on Crouter et al.(1990) were used. The data were analysed by MANOVA, t-test, and univariate ANOVA. The results were as follows.‘Social-Leadership’of peer relations was influenced by children's grade, grade
sex effects. 3-way interaction of children's variables and parental monitoring made significant differences in ‘Shy-Isolation’. Children's perceived cognitive self-competence was influenced by their grade and parent's social status. These results confirmed the significant roles of self-care and parental monitoring in children's development.
A Study on the Validity and Reliability of Performance Assessment in Home Economics
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 39, issue 10, 2001, Pages 169~186
The purpose of the study was to verify validity and reliability of performance assessment in home economics by applying performance assessment tools developed by Korean Curriculum Assessment Institute and by the researcher to a class of 17 high school female students in a rural area. For the purpose of this study, the research question was formulated and addressed:“How are the validity and reliability of performance assessment in home economics\ulcorner” The results of the study were as follows. 1. The results of testing validity a. Thirteen high school home economics teachers, whose average teaching years is ten years verified high validity in the contents of performance assessment. b. In the validity of the items that is verified being based on the scores of high school entrance examination of 2000 school year, the essay type showed its characteristics as performance assessment. c. The generalizability among assessment methods was not high. 2. The results of testing reliability Both Cronbach's
, inter-item reliability of the assessment tools used in the research, and reliability among the raters were high. But reliability among the tasks was relatively low. This study proposed that the diverse performance methods, the increasing number of assessment, the explicit assessment criterion, and scoring criterion are needed to satisfying validity and reliability of performance assessment.
A Study on Care-Oriented Morality and Justice-Oriented Morality in High School Students
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 39, issue 10, 2001, Pages 187~204
