A Direction of the Environmental Movement based on Voluntary Simplicity Life Style
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 42, issue 1, 2004, Pages 1~16
The purpose of this study is to understand the relationship between the environmental movement and voluntary simplicity life style. The results of this study are as follows： First, both voluntary simplicity life style and the environmental movement are concepts which became the center of public interest because of the evil practices appeared in the process of the development of capitalism. Second, the level of consciousness of environment is comparatively high, but the level of the power of execution is comparatively low as a whole. In the case of Korea, people have not yet the mature responsibilities of citizenship. It is very important to enforce different informal educations in order to increase the effectiveness of the environmental movement. Home training based on voluntary simplicity life style is the most important informal education for the purpose of increasing the effectiveness of the environmental movement. Consequently, for the preservation of environment we need to do our best endeavors such as home training based on voluntary simplicity life style, environmental education based on our social and cultural background, and more powerful administrative measures which is administrative support rather than administrative control.

The following results are obtained： First, about 33％ of married women who did not have a job at the pre-birth enter in labor market at the post-birth. Second, compared to those out of the labor force, women who succeeded in finding their first jobs after the birth of their first child are more likely to be younger, have baby-sitters, have working experiences in the past, and have lower level of household income. The findings of this study were as follows： First, children investigated were found to have middle level of consumption problems. Purchasing goods scored the lowest, and using goods scored the highest among consumption problems. Second, it turned out that boys suffered more consumption problems than girls. The reason seemed that as boys generally have lower experience in consumption attitude. Third, as to the correlation of the children's consumption problems to their consumer-education experience, money management was significantly associated with the presence or absence of experience to learn at school how to manage and save allowances. Also, the experience of consumer education by parents made a significant difference. The children's consumer consciousness and attitude varied with their experience to receive consumer education from mass media.

Sunshade tent and the existing farmer's hat were examined. The results were as followes； Heart rate, total body weight loss and temperature of clothing microclimate on the chest and the back were lower in using sunshade tent than those in wearing existing hat in two experiments. In subjective sensation, subjects answered to feel significantly hotter and more uncomfortable in wearing existing hat in two experiments. Changes in Quality Characteristics of Chopped Garlic with Various Storage Method
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 42, issue 1, 2004, Pages 167~180
This study was carried out to investigate quality characteristics of chopped garlic stored at various temperature. Chopped garlic was stored at room temp.(
), refrigerator temp.(
) and frozen temp. (
) for 1, 2, 4, 8, 24, 48, 72 hours(room temp.) and 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, 30 days(refrigerator temp. and frozen temp.), respectively. Brown color, Hunter color value, vitamine C contents and flavor patterns by electronic noes of chopped garlic were measured. Fresh chopped garlic was used as control and garlic powder by hot air drying was used for comparisons. Brown color of chopped garlic increased with increasing storage time, and the intensity of that was reduced as following order such as chopped garlic stored at room temp., refrigerator temp. and frozen temp. Brown color of garlic powder was most dark amomg all the samples. The results of Hunter color value was consistent with then of brown color in chopped garlic, whereas those of garlic powder showed relatively low browning. Above results might be caused by the difference of measurement as only surface color was measured in Hunter color value unlike brown color. Vitamine C contents of chopped garlic decreased with increasing storage time, and in particular those stored at room temp. decreased markedly as retention of those stored at room temp. was 60％ of control after 1 day storage. Vitamine C retention of chopped garlic stored at refrigerator temp. was 78％ of control after 10 day storage and that stored at frozen temp. was 86％ of control after 30 day storage. At room temp., flavor pattern by electronic nose showed a difference between chopped garlic stored for 1hour and control, and showed occurrence of off odor after 1 day storage. Flavor pattern of garlic powder by electronic nose showed a mild flavor. Flavor patterns of chopped garlic stored at refrigerator temp. were similiar until 10 day storage, whereas those showed occurrence of volitile components after 15 day storage. Flavor patterns of chopped garlic stored at frozen temp. were similiar after 30 day storage, and especially those after 3 day storage were almost the same as control. Therefore it is desirable to store chopped garlic within 1 day at room temp. and within 10 days at refrigerator temp. And it is most desirable to store chopped garlic at frozen temp. as retention of quality characteristics was superior than other storage temp.

Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 42, issue 1, 2004, Pages 181~195
The purpose of the study was to explore the degree of children's access to media and the relationship between the use of media and language development of Korean-Chinese bilingual children in Yanji, China. Questionnaires were answered by 258 4th graders and their parents. The results showed that the children had an access to a variety of media. The children's use of language(Korean/ Chinese) differed to the type of media： they had more access to Korean language in the use of newspapers/magazines, books, and radio, and to Chinese language in the use of computer. They had comparatively a balanced access to Korean/chinese language in the use of TV. Stepwise regression analyses revealed that the children's access to Chinese language in the use of media, proficiency of a parent's Chinese language, and a parent's affection were related to proficiency of the children's Chinese language. Implications are derived from the use of media in development of bilingualism.
