The Effects of Emotion Regulation, Parent Related Variables and Victimization by Peer Harassment on Behavioral Problems among Children
Lee, Kyung-Nim ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 47, issue 7, 2009, Pages 1~12
This study examined emotion regulation, parental support, supervision, psychological control and marital conflict and victimization by peer harassment that affect children’s behavioral problems. The sample consisted of 412 fifth and sixth grade children. Statistics and methods used for the data analysis were percentage, frequency, Cronbach’s alpha, Factor analysis, t-test, Pearson’s correlation, and multiple Regression. Several major results were found from the analysis. First, girls had more internalized behavioral problems than boys. No sex difference was found in externalized behavioral problems. Second, boys’ and girls’ internalized and externalized behavioral problems showed positive correlations with maladaptive emotion regulation and parental psychological control. Boys’ and girls’ internalized behavioral problems and girls’ externalized behavioral problems showed negative correlations with parental support, but positive correlations with parentral marital conflict and victimization by peer harassment. Girls’ internalized and externalized behavioral problems showed negative correlations with parental supervision. Third, maladaptive emotion regulation was the most important variable predicting boys’ and girls’ externalized behavioral problems and girls’ internalized behavioral problems. Victimization by peer harassment was the most important variable predicting boys’ internalized behavioral problems.
Comparative Analysis of Housing Plans between Vietnamese in Korea and Vietnam for Vietnamese Migrant Workers in Korea
Lee, Young-Shim ; Choi, Jung-Shin ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 47, issue 7, 2009, Pages 13~32
The purpose of this study was to analyze the state of housing and domestic living conditions of Vietnamese individuals in Vietnam and Korea. Using ethnographic methodologies, It was examined examined 22 Vietnamese households in Korea in relation to their usage of domestic space and also conducted the same investigation on 20 Vietnamese households in Vietnam. The following conclusion were established; 1) The majority of households in both countries preferred that the kitchen was close to the dining room and living room while a kitchen door was not deemed as necessary. 2) In Korea, washing machines are used in the bathroom space, while in Vietnam they are used outside or in a specially designated space. 3) The most uncomfortable aspect of home life in Korea was having the bathroom and toilet in the same space while in Vietnam they are separately spaced. It is recommended that house plans with separate bathroom and toilet area be made available for Vietnamese migrants. 4) Chairs were used in the sleeping area for eating, especially if guests were present, but the floor space was also used for eating. 5) Tile is a typical floor material in Vietnam while vinyl is popular in Korea. However, migrant workers were comfortable with both materials. 6) All 20 households didn't have any heating system in Vietnam but most migrants preferred a modified Ondol in Korea. 7) Most migrants took their shoes off while inside the house in Vietnam and Korea. Furthermore, the majority of households didn’t have any designated shoes space at the entrance to the house in Vietnam and most were satisfied with the same situation in korea. 8) Most households in Vietnam and Korea preferred to decorate their living room with various things or as a place of worship to their ancestors. The direction of house was an important element when deciding to buy or building houses in both countries.
Examining the Relationship between Depression, Daily Hassles, and Family Support among Elderly Cerebral Vascular Accident Outpatients
Moon, Soo-Kyung ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 47, issue 7, 2009, Pages 33~43
Depression has a direct relationship with lower quality of life for elderly with cerebral vascular accidents(CVA). Daily hassles worsen depression for elderly with CVA disability and thus an effective intervention is necessary. This research examined the direct influence of daily hassles on depression and the mediation effect of family support among 161 elderly with CVA disability living in Seoul using Structural Equation Modeling. The direct effect of daily hassles on depression was statistically significant (p < .001) while family support was shown to be a mediator between daily hassles and depression. The mediation model of family support was examined using
difference and Soble test. As a result, family support was proven to be a partial mediator. Implications are discussed.

Jeong, Ho-Sun ; Jang, Yoon-Ok ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 47, issue 7, 2009, Pages 45~58
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of individual variables, mother related variables, and timemanagement ability on self-management of adolescents. In addition, the direct and indirect effects of these variables on self-management were also assessed. The subjects of this study were 496 students who were selected at random from middle schools in Daegu. The questionnaire was used for this survey, consisted of a self-management, a timemanagement, a self-efficacy, an internal locus of control, mother’s home management, and mother’s support scale. Factor analysis, multiple regression analysis and path analysis were employed for data analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, mother’s home management planning ability had the most affect on adolescent time-management ability in terms of planning and implementing, while self-efficacy had the most affect on time-management evaluating ability. Second, adolescent’ time-management planning ability had the most affect on lifestyle and money management, time-management implementing ability on studies management, self-efficacy on health management, and internal locus of control on interpersonal relation management of adolescents. Third, among adolescent self-management, lifestyle management, studies management and money management can be achieved through the mediation of adolescent time management ability. They exhibit indirect influence through adolescent self-efficacy, internal locus of control, mother’s home-management planning ability, and mother’s home-management implementing ability. Furthermore, time-management ability is also influenced through the mediation of health management and interpersonal relation management, but is not indirectly affected by selfefficacy, internal locus of control, time planning ability, and time implementing ability.

Seo, Eun-Kyoung ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 47, issue 7, 2009, Pages 97~107
This study investigated the impact of long-term relationship orientation on emotional characteristic in fashion stores and relationship characteristic between middle-aged and senior women and salespeople. This study employed survey method with questionnaire. Data were collected from 579 women who were from the age of forty to seventy. The data were analyzed using statistic methods(SPSS 15.0 and Amos 5.0) such as frequency analysis, cronbach
, exploratory factor analysis, second-order confirmatory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling. The findings of this study were concluded as follows; Firstly, the income significantly affected on emotional characteristics(p < 0.01), but had no significant effect on long-term relationship orientation(p < 0.05). The higher income, the more respondents exhibited positive attitude and sensitive emotional characteristics as a sense of sight, hearing, smell, tactile and feeling to salespeople in the fashion stores. The path of structural equation was implemented as income variables
(relationship with salespeople variables
long-term relationship orientation which turned out to be statistically significant at the 95% confidence level. Secondly, senior group(55~70yrs) was more positive relationship with salespeople compared to middle-aged group(40~54yrs). The precondition of get satisfaction and feeling of being cared from the salespeople were critical for long-term relationship orientation. The path of structural equation was carried out as age variables

Kim, Myung-Sun ; Oh, Yun-Jae ;
Journal of the Korean Home Economics Association , volume 47, issue 7, 2009, Pages 109~116
This study was conducted to investigate the recognition and uses of Astragalus membranaceus. The survey methodology employed was a questionnaire, which interviewed 272(37.8%) males and 448(62.2%) females from the Seoul and Kyunggido area. The main results are as follows: 40-50 years old like and eat Astragalus membranaceus more frequently than 10-30 years old. The most popular reason provided for the preference of Astragalus membranaceus was good health benefits. People indicating a dislike for Astragalus membranaceus had generally fewer previous experiences of eating this plant. The main purchasing place appears to be traditional markets and supermarkets. Astragalus membranaceus was acknowledged as having the following characteristics ‘excellent nutrition’(3.82), ‘natural food’(3.76), ‘possessing anti-cancer and anti-oxidization characteristics’(3.70) and ‘good for liver function, a depressant and good coelenteron effects’(3.62). However, it was not associated with a ‘cheap price’(3.02) and was regarded as ‘difficult for buy’(3.10). Recognition and eating experience was low for Astragalus membranaceus kimchi and rice bread, bread, sauce and Astragalus membranaceus added health drinks. However opinion of its taste was regarded highly.
