Moderating the Effects of a Friendship Network and Quality on the Association between Mutual Antipathy and Maladjustment

The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effects of a size of the friendship network and quality of friendship on the associations between mutual antipathy and maladjustment. The subjects were 678 fifth- and sixth-grade primary school children who were recruited from a public school in Bucheon City. The Peer Nomination Inventory was used to assess mutual antipathy, peer victimization, social withdrawal, aggression, and the friendship network. The children were given a classroom roster and asked to nominate up to three classmates who fit each description. Additionally, the children reported the quality of their friendships using the Friendship Quality Scale. Each child was asked to indicate his or her one best friend and rate how accurately a sentence describe done of their best friends on the scale. The results revealed that the friendship network and friendship quality significantly moderated the relationships between mutual antipathy and social withdrawal, and peer victimization. The magnitude of the association between mutual antipathy and social withdrawal was not significant for large friendship networks and high quality friendships. Although mutual antipathy was significantly associated with peer victimization, the association was stronger at lower levels than at higher levels of the friendship network and quality. However, there was no moderating effect of the friendship network and quality on the association between mutual antipathy and aggression. A large friendship network and high quality friendship could be protective factors among those who have mutual antipathy in peer groups.
Consumers` Perceived Costs and Benefits of Location-Based Smartphone Applications

This study aimed to identify the dimensions of benefits and costs that consumers perceive in utilizing locationbased applications (LBAs) on smartphones, and to distinguish consumer groups according to their perceptions of those benefits and costs. A web-based consumer survey was conducted-among consumers who had experience using LBAs. Four hundred participants were 20`s to 40`s, with 200 women and 200 men. Descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, t -tests, one-way analysis of variance, and cluster analysis were used for data analysis. The findings of this study are as follows: first, LBAs accounted for about 20% of the smartphone apps used by consumers. Second, factor analysis identified the underlying dimensions of the benefits and costs of smartphone LBAs. The underlying dimensions of benefits perceived by consumers were information/economic/convenience, entertainment and personalization. Privacy concerns, lack of trust and lack of behavioral control were the underlying dimensions of the perceived costs of LBAs. Third, ANOVA showed that the perceived benefits and costs of smartphone LBA services differed according to the characteristics of the consumer. Cluster analysis identified three distinctive consumer groups according to the levels of perceive costs and benefits of smartphone LBAs. The three groups were labeled the `benefit-cost balanced group,` `cost centered group,` and `benefit centered group.`
A Qualitative Study on Men`s Experiences of Work-Life Balance: Focusing on Men in Dual-Income Families with Children under the Age of Six

This study aimed to examine Korean men`s experiences of work-family balance in dual income families with children under six years of age. We focused on identifying the difficulty of balancing work and family considering their individual, social, and cultural conditions. The method was a qualitative study involving two in-depth interviews with each of 12 men, and analyzing the data through the grounded theory approach. From the results, a model of men`s work-family experience was constructed. It demonstrates the central phenomena (difficulties of balancing), the causal conditions (lacking time for family, seeking support from the employer, and learning husband`s roles insufficiently), the contextual conditions (remaining paternalism and changing husband`s roles), the intervening conditions (workplace, childcare support, and wife characteristics), and strategies (help from relatives, utilizing daycare centers, controlling birth, managing work conditions, and using family polices). We clarify the overall picture of working and family life experiences, and also show how men deal with their problems in their circumstances by balancing working and family life. In conclusion, males have difficulty participating in family life autonomously because of having less decision-making power than the wife. Moreover, the great responsibilities of the breadwinner disturb the work-family balance. Men devote themselves to working to hold a job instead of spending time with their family. However, they ultimately value work-family balance with respect to `keeping a peaceful family life`.
A Study on the Consumer`s Attitude and Utilization Intention toward Full Ingredient Lists for Cosmetics: For Female Consumers

In an effort to protect consumers` rights to information and to promote their freedom of choice, the South Korean government has been enforcing a policy called the cosmetics full ingredients list system since 2008, which requires cosmetics manufacturers to list all of the ingredients used in their products. This policy aims to assist consumers in identifying the causes of possible side effects of cosmetic products. This study uses consumers` demographic information addition to their cosmetics purchase and usage characteristics to learn about consumers` attitudes and utilization intentions and the influence of information from the cosmetics full ingredients list. This study was conducted through a questionnaire based survey administered to women above the age of 20 years across South Korea who use cosmetic products. The questionnaire was distributed to 300 members on the panel of M Brain, an online research institute. The findings of this study are as follows: (1) The level of knowledge on cosmetics` ingredients positively affected the consumers` attitude and utilization intention of information on the cosmetics full ingredients list. (2) The higher the utilization intention for information, the more often consumers checked the packaging of goods. This implies that habitual behavior, such as checking information, leads to increasing intention to utilize of new information. (3) The brand, as a decision-making factor, negatively affected consumers` attitudes regarding information.
The Verification of Mediating Effects of Childcare Teachers` Job Satisfaction on the Relationship between Their Intention to Change Jobs and the Directors` Emotional Leadership

The objective of this study was to investigate whether childcare teachers` job satisfaction plays a mediating role between their intention to change jobs and directors` emotional leadership. The participants of this study were 282 childcare teachers in Seoul. The instruments for this study were Director`s Emotional Leadership Scale (2 factors with 18 items), Childcare Teacher`s Job Satisfaction Scale (K-CTJSS, 6 factors with 40 items), and Childcare Teacher`s Intention to Change Jobs Scale (1 factor with 7 items). These instruments were verified by Cronbach`s
as a reliability and factor analysis as a validity. The data were analysed by Pearson`s productive correlation, stepwise multiple regression and path analysis by the SPSS ver. 20.0 and AMOS ver. 20.0. The results were as follows: First, there were significant negative correlations between directors` emotional leadership and childcare teachers` intention to change jobs, and between childcare teachers` job satisfaction and their intention to change jobs, whereas there were significant positive correlations between directors` emotional leadership and childcare teachers` job satisfaction. Second, the directors` emotional leadership was explained by 22% and the childcare teachers` job satisfaction was explained by 9% of their intention to change jobs. Last, the childcare teachers` job satisfaction mediated between the directors` emotional leadership and childcare teachers` intention to change jobs.
Development and Validation of the Ego Strength Scale for Children

The purpose of this study was to develop an objective Ego Strength Scale for Children useful in research and clinical fields for measuring the ego strength of 3rd-6th grade children and to test its validity and reliability. For these purposes, we conducted a two-stage study. First, the scale was developed through data collection, composition of components and questions, a preliminary survey, and a main survey. The main survey was conducted with 1,185 3rd-6th grade children in Seoul and Gyeonggi province, and analyzed through exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis. Second, the scale we developed was validated through confirmatory factor analysis and convergent-discriminant validity analysis for testing validity related to internal structure. The secondary survey was conducted with 5,494 3rd-6th grade children in Seoul and the province of Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, Gangwon, Jeolla, Gyeongsang, and Jeju. The study concluded the following: First, the scale was designed to measure 4 factors: competence, initiative, elasticity, and sociability using 26 questions. Second, the Ego Strength Scale for Children was found to be highly valid through validity tests. In addition, it showed high reliability in an internal consistency test and split-half reliability test. As this study developed and validated the Ego Strength Scale for Children in the current situation in which there are few objective instruments to measure children`s ego strength, it is meaningful in that it laid the basis for broader future research on ego strength.
Need for Development of a List of Meals for Diabetic Patients and Development of Barley-Based Diabetic Meals

The aim of this study was to develop and apply a list of meals and standard recipes using barley for diabetic patients. The degree of interest and requirements of diabetic patients were investigated for the development of meals. The ingredients of the meals were selected through the diabetic literature and previous research. While developing a list of meals, dietetic therapies for diabetic patients were considered. After developing 15 kinds of meals and modifying them through sensory evaluation, a standard recipe was completed. In the standard recipe, the menu name, the ingredients, quantity, and recipe were stated and the nutritional components were indicated. Photographs of the meals were included. The calorie prescription for the diabetic patients was aimed at elderly women, that is, those 65 years old or above, based on research showing this to be the average age of diabetics. The prescribed calories were 1,500 kcal based on the food exchange list. Weekly lists of meals including the developed dishes were made for diabetic patients. The list were modified after consultation with a clinical nutritionist. When completed, one meal item was selected for each day and cooked. A photograph was taken and presented diabetic patients. This article presents the standardized recipes of the developed list of meals and applies them to modifying the diabetic diet, with an aim to be of service to diabetic patients attempting to meet their dietetic therapy goals. We also provide basic data on institutional food services for diabetic patients and nutrition education.
Comparative Analysis of Underwear Evaluative Criteria according to Somatotypes and Socio-Cultural Characteristics

This study aimed to investigate the effects of somatotypes and body-related variables such as body exposure and body satisfaction on underwear evaluative criteria. Usable questionnaires were obtained from a total of 250 male and female students in their 20s. The data were mainly analyzed by t-test, ANOVA and analysis of variance using SPSS ver. 21.0. The results of this study are as follows: First, differences between underwear and outerwear evaluative criteria were found. For example, size, comfort and washing were important for the underwear but design, brand and fashionability were meaningful for outerwear. Price, color, material, and sewing were important for both outerwear and underwear. Second, the groups divided by somatotypes, a thin person group, a moderate person group and a fat person group, showed no difference in underwear evaluative criteria. Members of all the somatotype groups evaluated underwear similarly. Third, the groups divided by body image distortion showed different evaluative criteria for underwear. The negative discordance group emphasized the importance of the practicality factor, but the positive discordance group stressed the significance of the symbolism factor. Finally, the groups divided by body exposure and body satisfaction showed different evaluative criteria for underwear, too. The effects of socio-cultural variables on the underwear evaluative criteria proved to be significant.
