A Comparative Analysis between Inflow rate Maximizing and Outflow rate Maximizing for the Urban Expressway Ramp Metering
Journal of Korean Society of Transportation, volume 14, issue 4, 1996, Pages 7~29
The optimal solution obtained by a linear programming model is to maximize the ramp inflow rate. It is argued in this paper that the maximization of inflow rate is different from the maximization of outflow rate under congested conditions. Therefore, this paper proposes a systematic searching procedure from a linear programing formulation to a integer programming : first obtain the optimal solution by a linear programming and then adding weight to linear programming then. solve the optimal solution again by integer programming i.e. The proposed method is an interactive approach. Measure of effectiveness by simulation models regards the real time data(O/D, queue, delay, etc), can be utilized in the proposed interactive process.
A Study on the Behavioral Analysis of Workers using Disaggregate Behavioral Model
Journal of Korean Society of Transportation, volume 14, issue 4, 1996, Pages 31~48
This paper develops a disaggregate model system for travel behavior of workers in a metropolitan area. We attempt to develop a set of models for predicting trip generation type, trip purpose, destination, mode choices in each trip on the way from work to home by using the concept of utility maximization of base-to-base tour. The model incorporates the concept that decisions of a trip in a trip in a travel tour depend on decisions of the trips having been made before and decisions of trip planned after of this trip, as well as on current trip conditions. As the structure of the model, the nested logit model is used to avoid a simultaneous model's complexity. The data to be used for estimating the model system are from the person trip survey which was carried out in 1981 in Nagoya metropolitan. Empirical tests of the model for Nagoya metropolitan area show encouraging results and prove the validity of the assumption of this model.
The Development of a Model for Vehicle Type Classification with a Hybrid GLVQ Neural Network
Journal of Korean Society of Transportation, volume 14, issue 4, 1996, Pages 49~76
Until recently, the inductive loop detecters(ILD) have been used to collect a traffic information in a part of traffic manangment and control. The ILD is able to collect a various traffic data such as a occupancy time and non-occupancy time, traffic volume, etc. The occupancy time of these is very important information for traffic control algorithms, which is required a high accuracy. This accuracy may be improved by classifying a vehicle type with ILD. To classify a vehicle type based on a Analog Digital Converted data collect form ILD, this study used a typical and modifyed statistic method and General Learning Vector Quantization unsuperviser neural network model and a hybrid model of GLVQ and statistic method, As a result, the hybrid model of GLVQ neural network model is superior to the other methods.
A Study on the Installation Effect Analysis and for Future Develop with Vertical Acceleration of Speed Hump
Journal of Korean Society of Transportation, volume 14, issue 4, 1996, Pages 77~90
Recently existing the road traffic low is requlated by hump standard, which is established throuth the actual england TRRL(Transpodt and Road Research Laboratory) experiment. The determined standard has been utilized, however, wihtout the test on of our street and its drivers driving characteristics. Even with the utilization, the appropriate before and after management, is not constituted. In Spite of minimum speed limit, in many case, the utilization itself is questionalble rather than the purpose of restraining speed limit or reducing vehicle confacts. Along with hump consideration, social attention is focused due to series of personal law suit(traffic accident) field against the negligence of local organization management. Therefore counter measure of safe transportation facility is urgently required. With consideration of above background, the purpose of this research is to develop the hump that is appropriate with our transportation environment. This can be achieved thr ugh analysis of hump effectiveness, examination of drivers awamess, facilitation/management problems, and various problems in verticle acceleration.
Efficiency Questions of the Left-turn Prohibit in Case of 4-Leg Intersections with 5-Phase Signal System
Journal of Korean Society of Transportation, volume 14, issue 4, 1996, Pages 91~106
This paper deals with on the efficiency questions of the left-turn prohibit at an isolated intersection and a corridor with 5-phase signal system. Its objectives are three-fold ; (1) to analyze the efficiency of the left-turn prohibit with the use of an imaginary network, (2) to evaluate various factors under consideration in decision making on the left-turn prohibit, (3) to provide a framework for estimating and evaluating overall impacts of the left-turn prohibit in traffic network. the major findings using an imaginary network and computer packages such as MINUTP, TRANSYT-7F and STATGRAPH are followings. First, left-turn prohibit reduces cycle length by 33 seconds and delay time per vehicle by 36 seconds at an isolated intersection, and cycle length by 31 seconds and delay time per veicle by 43 seconds along a corridor. Second, total vehicle mile of travel and total travel time at an isolated intersection seem up to increase 38.85 miles(57.36km), 14.4 hour on the average, Regarding to a corridor, total vehicle mile of travel is increased by 50.14 miles(80.22km), but total travel time is decreased by129.9 hours. Third, the efficiency of left-turn prohibit are affected the following eight factors including left-turn volume(veh/hr) and ratio(%), average delay time per vehicle(sec/veh) and others. Finally, several simple and multiple regression models to evaluate the impacts on the left-turn prohibit are formulated from the above eight factors. It can be expected that these models will take an important role in decision-making of left-turn prohibit.
The Development for Vision-Based Realtime Speed Measuring Algorithm
Journal of Korean Society of Transportation, volume 14, issue 4, 1996, Pages 107~129
Recently, surveillance system designed to collect various trsffic information are becoming new areas of development . Among these, the image detector is a ayatem which can measure the travel time and speed in realtime and this is emerging as the most effcient tool to be available in future related areas. But in measuring wide-area information in realtime, the image detector are yet full of problem in its accuracy. The aim of this ahesis is to develop an algorithms which can collect wide-area information such as travel time and travel speed in urban networks and freeways in realtime. The information on wide-area such as travel time and travel speed is important in accomplishing strategic function in traffic control. The algorithm developed from this study is based on the image tracking model which tracks a moving vehicle form image datas collected continuously, and is constructed to perform realtime measurement. To evaluate the performance of the developed algorithms, 600 ind vidual vehicles in total were used as data for the study, and this evaluation was carried out with the differenciation of day and night condition at the access roads in front of AJou University, In the statistical analysis results, the error rate was recorded as 5.69% and it has proved to be applicable on the field in both day and noght conditions.
