Implementation of Automatic Tool for S/W Change Impact Analysis in Railway System

Recent advances in computer technology have brought more dependence on software to railway systems. Hence, the safety assurance of the vital software running on the railway system is very critical task and yet, not many works have been done. While much efforts have been reported to improve electronic hardware's safety, not so much systematic approaches to evaluate software's safety. In this paper, we suggested an automated analysis tool for S/W change impact in railway system, and presented its result of implementation. The analysis items in the implemented tool had referred to the international standards in relation to the software for railway system, such as IEC 61508 and IEC 62279. In these international standards, 'change impact analysis' for railway system S/W has to be required mandatorily. The proposed tool can be utilized at the assessment stage and also the software development stage.
Development of On-Line Type Voltage Sag Compensation Systems by Using a Supercapacitor

This paper deal with development of on-line type voltage sag compensation system using supercapacitor EDLC to solve the voltage sag problems which are considered to be dominant disturbances affecting the power quality. With the wide use of semiconductor devices in electrical equipment, modem-type loads are becoming increasingly sensitive to the voltage sags and the disturbances prove to be costly to industries. Supercapacitor EDLC is employed to compensate dynamically for the voltage sag of system with sensitive loads. This capacitor has higher energy density than the electrolytic capacitor. Also, this capacitor has a lot of advantage such as no maintenance, longer life cycle and faster charge-discharge time than the battery system. Therefore, in this paper, the energy design scheme of supercapacitor and the configuration technique of on-line type voltage sag compensation systems are newly introduced. According to the results of experimental of prototype 5[kVA] system, it is verified that the developed system has effectiveness of voltage sag compensation by using a supercapacitor EDLC.
Development of Static Testing Tool Related Int'l Standard for Railway Signaling Software

Hence, the safety assurance of the vital software running on the railway system is very critical task and yet, not many works have been done. While much efforts have been reported to improve electronic hardware's safety, not so much systematic approaches to evaluate software's safety, especially for the vital software running on board train controllers. In this paper, we have developed the static software testing tool for railway signaling, especially Fagan Inspection module and checklists supporting module. This static testing tool for railway signaling can be utilized at the assessment phase, and also usefully at the software development stage also. It is anticipated that it will be greatly helpful for the evaluation on the software for railway signalling system.
An Active Damping Device for a Distributed Power System

Distributed power systems (DPSs) has been widely used various industrial/military applications due to their various advantages. Furthermore, the "All electric" concept, in conjunction with DC DPS, appears to be more advanced and mature in the AEV(All-Electric Vehicular) industry. Generally, AEV carry many loads with varied functions. However, there may be large pulsed loads with short duty ratios which can affect the normal operation of other loads. In this paper, a converter with spilt capacitors and a simple adaptive controller is proposed as a active damping device to mitigate the voltage transients on the bus. The proposed converter allows the smaller capacitive storage. In addition, the proposed control approach has the advantage of requiring only one sensor and performing both the functions of mitigating the voltage bus transients and maintaining the level of energy stored. The control algorithm has been implemented on a TMS320F2812 Digital Signal Processor (DSP). Simulation and experimental results are presented which verify the proposed control principle and demonstrate the practicality of the circuit topology.
A Comparative Study of Frequency Estimation Techniques using High Speed FIR Filter and Phasor Angle between Two Phasors

Frequency is an important operating parameter of a power system. It is essential that the frequency of a power system be maintained very close to its nominal frequency. And frequency measurement devices have need to measure a fast and accurate of frequency using voltage signals. This paper proposes a comparative study of frequency estimation techniques using the high speed FIR filter based algorithm, the DFT filter based algorithm using phasor angle between two phasors, and positive sequence component based algorithm using the half angle between two successive positions of phasor. The discussed three techniques have been formed through numerical manipulation of a discrete system. The proposed techniques have been tested using signals obtained from selected power system model using ATP simulation package. Some test results are shown in this paper.
Adaptive State Feedback Control for Nonlinear Rotary Inverted Pendulum System using Similarity Transformation Method: Implementation of Real-Time Experiment

In recent years, researches on rotary inverted pendulum control systems have been significantly focused due their highly nonlinear dynamics and complicated geometric structures. This paper presents a novel control approach for such systems by means of similarity transformation theory. At first, we represent nonlinear system dynamics to the controllability-formed state space model including a time-varying parameter vector. We establish the state-feedback control configuration based on the transformed model and derive an adaptive control law for adjusting desired characteristic equation. Numerical analysis is achieved to evaluate our control method and demonstrate its superiority by comparing it to the traditional control strategy. Furthermore, real-time control experiment is carried out to test its practical reliability.
Internal Fault Detection and Fault Type Discrimination for AC Generator Using Detail Coefficient Ratio of Daubechies Wavelet Transform

An AC generator is an important components in producing a electric power and so it requires highly reliable protection relays to minimize the possibility of demage occurring under fault conditions. Conventionally, a DFT based RDR has been used for protecting the generator stator winding. However, when DFTs based on Fourier analysis are used, it has been pointed out that defects can occur during the process of transforming a time domain signal into a frequency domain one which can lead to loss of time domain information. This paper proposes the internal fault detection and fault type discrimination for the stator winding by applying the detailed coefficients by Daubechies Wavelet Transform to overcome the defects in the DFT process. For the case studies reported in the paper, a model system was established for the simulations utilizing the ATP, and this verified the effectiveness of the proposed technique through various off-line tests carried out on the collected data. The propose method is shown to be able to rapidly identify internal fault and did not operate a miss-operation for all the external fault tested.
A Light Characteristics of Mixed-Color LED for the Variable Color Temperature Street Light

Conventional HP(high pressure) sodium or Metal-halide lamps have a life span of around one year requiring at least annual replacement and maintenance. High Power LED lights require no regular maintenance further increasing savings on replacement bulbs, access equipment and labour costs. New installations benefit from a substantial reduction in the cost of expensive heavy duty cable required for sodium lighting. Especially, LED light can achieve variable color temperature, high functional performance in the field of street light. There are two main method to achieve variable color temperature function of the street light. one method is using RGB multi-chip LED, the other is using Orange-White LED method. In this paper, it was compare RGB Multi-chip LED with white-orange LED for there characteristics performance.
A Study on the Characteristic of Capacitor Current by Voltage Harmonics

As the increasing of non-linear load, we have a growing interest in power quality. Power quality has come to the voltage quality. Voltage harmonics consist in at the PCC by the non-linear load. Capacitor is generally used for the power compensation and as the passive filter by the serial connection with reactor. Capacitor has low impedance as the frequency increases, so easily fall down by the harmonic component of non-linear load. Small voltage of low-order acts on quite a few at the capacitor by the current increase. In this paper, we measured the magnitude and angle of voltage at the PCC and calculated under the same condition. we checked out that lower voltage of higher order produces current magnification.
PLC Filter Capacity Improvement and Efficiency Evaluation of Smart Street Lighting System

In order to give handiness to the management of the existing street lighting system which is based on the one way communication and to reduce the maintenance cost, the power line communication filter in the two way communication which is based on the CDMA communication and power line communication was improved and accordingly the stability of the communication performance was improved. Also, the efficiency of existing street lighting system and smart street lighting system was evaluated as Visual studio system. As a result, when the number of street lights is 10,000, the hours of daily work fell 50% and the number of necessary maintenance staff decreased 40%. Compared to the maintenance costs of the existing street lighting system, it could be expected to have the cut costs of almost 100 million won a year on the basis of 60 switch board and 1,200 street lights.
Electromagnetic Analysis of a Shading Ring Type AC Solenoid

A shading ring in an AC solenoid plays an important role in reducing vibration and humming sound. Estimation of performance of the shading ring placed in a stator pole of the AC solenoid is not an easy task due to the difficulty in measurement of the current and flux linkage of the shading ring. In this paper, dynamic performance of an AC solenoid with a shading ring is analyzed through the simulation using electromagnetic analysis software and the results are verified by simple AC and DC voltage tests. Both the simulation and experimental results show that the shading ring in the AC solenoid not only increases pull force, but also reduces operation time, vibration and humming sound.
Parameter Learning of Dynamic Bayesian Networks using Constrained Least Square Estimation and Steepest Descent Algorithm

This paper presents new learning algorithm of dynamic Bayesian networks (DBN) by means of constrained least square (LS) estimation algorithm and gradient descent method. First, we propose constrained LS based parameter estimation for a Markov chain (MC) model given observation data sets. Next, a gradient descent optimization is utilized for online estimation of a hidden Markov model (HMM), which is bi-linearly constructed by adding an observation variable to a MC model. We achieve numerical simulations to prove its reliability and superiority in which a series of non stationary random signal is applied for the DBN models respectively.
Effect on Vibration According to the Load Capability and Elapsed Year of Power Transformer(154kV) in Operation

Most of the causes of the failures of power transformers in operations are mechanical defects due to vibration. To identify these causes, the vibration phenomenon was measured from the power transformers in operation in the substations under the Daejeon power transmission district office of KEPCO. The measurement was performed in a 6
4 structure on one side of the transformer. The vibration of the measured points was presented in 2D and 3D, and analyzed. The results according to the period in use of the transformer and the load applied to the transformer were analyzed. These results will be used as basic data to establish the vibration standard for the power transformer, In addition, with a load capability and vibration phenomenon correlation and regression analysis to identify by way of function was reached. And the vibration phenomenon pass a years with changes and to analyze correlation, was estimated to bring in the function. And then through the analysis of power transformers to set standards based on vibration data was used to.
Development of In-Flex System using the Flexibility Aluminum Clad Cable

The developed in-flex system completed the wiring work with the plug-in connection. To maintain electrical and mechanical stability, and an insulation between the conductors was strengthened by forming a partition. Moreover, the error according to a bad connection was prevented by separating the inlet from the outlet of the electric trace and thus the quick construction become possible. The metal reinforcing material was added outside the upper case and lower case. The fire-resistance efficiency was maximized in order to minimize a damage by the fire. As to the developed system, we found that it takes shorter time to complete installation than the rigid steel conduit wiring work, and that about 25 % of construction cost was saved because the labor costs decrease due to the shorter construction period of time.

Lightning has been identified as one of the leading causes of outages on transmission and distribution systems. As sensitive loads and reliance on electric power increase year by year, it is getting more focus on stable and high quality of power supply. To protect the transmission and distribution line from lightning, the transmission lightning arrester can be the effective facility on the power system. This paper discusses Gapped type Arresters application results by analysing effects of lightning arresters on transmission and distribution line.
Development of Core Material with High Magnetic Induction and Low Iron Loss for Middle-Frequency Applications

Thin-gauged 3% silicon steel sheets having a highly grain-oriented texture have been developed as a core material for applications of middle-frequency (400 Hz
10 kHz) devices. The newly developed sheets with a tension coating showed an excellent reduction in iron loss at 400 Hz (iron loss at 1.0 T and 400 Hz = 4.677 W/kg, iron loss at 1.5 T and 400 Hz = 9.742 W/kg) due to high magnetic induction,
(measured induction at 1000 A/m), of over 1.9 T. In cases of frequencies below 400 Hz, magnetic induction,
, of the sample plays a major role to reduce its iron loss as excitation induction increases, whereas, in case of frequency of 1 kHz, thickness dependence becomes dominant due to a lower iron loss at relatively thinner sample. The sheets with a high magnetic induction, therefore, are favorable for high excitation induction (over 1.0 T) and low excitation frequency (below 400 Hz) applications, whereas the sheets that can reduce eddy current loss by reducing thickness or domain wall width are advantageous for low excitation induction (below 1.0 T) and high excitation frequency (around 1 kHz) applications.

Establishment of Evaluation System for 40,000 A Rogowski Coil

Evaluation system for calibrating Rogowski coiI(RC) up to primary current of 40,000 A have been established. The system consists of 40,000 A AC high current source, current transformer(CT) comparator, standard CT, RC under test, voltage to current convertor(VCC), buffer and CT burden. An AC high current is applied to the primary windings of both the standard CT and the RC under test, and then the CT comparator measures the ratio error and the phase displacement by comparing the secondary current of the standard CT with output current of VCC. For testing of RC, we have evaluated two RCs under test of primary current ranges of 0 A

Frequency Analysis Method Based Fault Diagnosis of an Electrolytic Capacitor for Voltage Smoothing

Electrolytic capacitors have been widely used in power electronics system because of the features of large capacitance, small size, high-voltage, and low-cost. Electrolytic capacitors, which is most of the time affected by aging effect, plays a very important role for the power electronics system quality and reliability. Therefore it is important to estimate the parameter of an electrolytic capacitor to predict the failure. This paper proposed a novel fault diagnosis method of an electrolytic capacitor used for voltage smoothing in boost DC converter. The equivalent series resistance(ESR) of electrolytic capacitor estimated from FFT result of filtered waveform of capacitor voltage/current. Main advantage of the proposed method include circuit simplicity and easy implementation. Simulation and experimental results are shown to verify the performance of the proposed method.
A Study on the Establishment of Impedance/Conductance Guide Line for Diagnosis of Lead-Acid Battery's State of Health(SOH)

Battery is one of the emergency power and its reliability is a very important to keep up the minimum of building capabilities in case of interruption of electric power. This paper, a comparison was made between three different types of instrument on 30 valve regulated lead acid(VRLA) TYPE 12[V]/100[AH] batteries, and then their indicated measured values(impedance/conductance) were compared with the measured capacity of the battery. As a result, Measured value of instrument is strongly related to battery's capacity in the same group battery and Impedance/Conductance guide line for diagnosis of lead-acid battery's state of health(SOH) is a different from each battery guoup.

Design and Characterization of a Reactor for Matrix Type SFCLs Using Electromagnetic Field Analysis

In this paper, we performed the optimum design of reactors for matrix-type superconducting-fault current limiters (SFCLs), using electromagnetic analysis tools. We decided a optimun position within a reactor for superconducting elements of current-limiting parts and trigger parts from the calculation of magnetic flux internsity for reactor structures. Also we decided effective distance length between two reactors through the analysis of the distribution of magnetic field, according to distance lengths between them. We designed and characterized matrix-type SFCLs, based on our optimum design of a reactor. We confirmed uniform distribution of a fault current, resulted from the improvement of simultaneous quench characteristics within our matrix-type SFCL.

Recently, to the development of a highly information-oriented society to a large increase in dependence on power, Accordingly, it is need that active development and spread of preservation technology on accident prevention in operation electrical equipment. Currently, many to measure instrument used in domestic is very expensive or foreign, it will be able to substitute this, the development necessity of the diagnosis technique and the measuring instrument is demanded.
