Voltage Quality Analysis in Power Distribution System with Superconducting Fault Current Limiter at Grounding Line

In this paper, voltage quality improvement is analyzed in case of Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (SFCL) installed in grounding line of main transformer in power distribution system. First, a resistive-type SFCL model is used. Next, Korean power distribution system is modeled. Finally, when SFCL is installed in the starting point of feeder and grounding line of main transformer, voltage qualities are evaluated according to various fault locations and resistance values of SFCL using PSCAD/EMTDC. The voltage quality results in case of grounding line are compared with the voltage in case of feeder.
A new IP-based Multi-Channel Elevator Video Surveillance System

Recently, in the elevator of the buildings, such as apartment and office building, the visitor monitoring cameras for surveillance, advertising LCD to provide a variety of information, emergency call devices, and safe driving information sensors are installed. A variety of multimedia data from these devices to the central control office, management office, or to guard room are transmitted in real-time. Each sub-systems in the elevator are installed with a separate lines and operated independently and use different management principals, so integrated management for each sub-systems are very difficult. In this study, we develop a new IP-based multi-channel video surveillance system which is integrated surveillance camera, emergency call devices, communications devices, various sensors in the elevator, DVR, ODM, and can manage all devices by two-way communication and integrated interface. And we evaluated the performance of the developed system.
Development of Daily Peak Power Demand Forecasting Algorithm using ELM

Due to the increase of power consumption, it is difficult to construct an accurate prediction model for daily peak power demand. It is very important work to know power demand in next day to manage and control power system. In this research, we develop a daily peak power demand prediction method based on Extreme Learning Machine(ELM) with fast learning procedure. Using data sets between 2006 and 2010 in Korea, the proposed method has been intensively tested. As the prediction results, we confirm that the proposed method makes it possible to effective estimate daily peak power demand than conventional methods.
A Study on Driving Motor Performance Comparison for Load Efficiency Improvement of a Bicycle Locker System

This paper presents the design and implementation of a Bicycle Locker System. Generally DC motor has been used to control a Bicycle Locker System, but DC motor system requires frequent maintenances and its power efficiency is comparatively poor especially under heavy load conditions. In order to improve this difficulties, this paper adopts BLDC motor for a Bicycle Locker System and its motor controller is developed. The performances of locker units are compared between DC motor unit and BLDC motor unit. The motor power consumptions between two motors are discussed. Test results verify that power efficiency of the suggested BLDC drive unit is considerably improved compared to the DC drive unit with load condition.
Analysis on Electromagnetic Loss Characteristics of Bus bar and Enclosure according to the Specifications of Enclosures for a 24kV Switchgear

This paper deals with the electromagnetic loss characteristics of enclosures for a 24kV high voltage switchgear by using a finite element method (FEM). A study on the electromagnetic characteristics of enclosures for a high voltage switchgear should be conducted to minimize the size and the temperature rising of a switchgear. Generally, the enclosures made by stainless steel are used to minimize the eddy current loss caused by the transporting current in Bus bars due to its non-magnetic characteristics although the price of stainless steel is expensive compared with other metal for enclosures. Therefore, a switchgear made by stainless steel enclosures could be fabricated as a small size and are applied to a switchgear in urban substations. On the contrary, the switchgear enclosures made by steel could be fabricated with relatively cheap manufacturing price. However, the temperature easily rises due to the transporting current in Bus bars because steel is a ferromagnetic material. Therefore, the size of a switchgear made by steel enclosures is relatively massive and installed in rural substations. In this paper, the electromagnetic losses in the enclosures of a switchgear according to various enclosure thicknesses are calculated and compared with each other. Especially, we proposed a hybrid type enclosures for a switchgear made by stainless steel (top and bottom enclosure) and steel (left and right enclosure). It is concluded that the cost electromagnetic performance of applying the hybrid type enclosure is favorable to develop a high voltage switchgear.
A Development of Earth Parameters and Equivalent Resistivity Estimation Algorithm for ITS Facility Stabilization

Earth equipments are essential to protect ITS facilities from abnormal situation. In this research, an estimation algorithm of earth parameters and equivalent resistivity is introduced. Traditional estimation methods can be divided into graphic method and numerical method. The result of graphic method is varied by the ability of expert or repeated calculation and it is hard to estimate the parameters precisely. The numerical method requires special techniques such as optimizing theory, and numerous calculations, whose results can be varied with initial values. The proposed algorithm is based on the relationship between apparent resistances and earth parameters and approximates the nonlinear characteristics of earth using ANN(artificial neural networks). The effectiveness of proposed method is verified in case studies.
A Study on the Active Noise Control System for Road Noise Reduction Implementation and Characterization of Directional and Non-directional Speaker

Road traffic noise barriers being used to reduce the noise, but the city surroundings inhibition, ecosystem disturbance, and it is difficult to maintain. Can enhance or complement the existing noise barrier performance, so that it is necessary to develop an electronic noise-reduction system In this paper, we proposed an electronic road noise reduction devices to reduce road noise for a DSP-based signal processing and analog signal input-output controller. In order to verify the control performance, we performed noise reduction experimentation of ANC by filtered-X LMS algorithm and traffic noise signal injection. The controller is equipped with noise reduction algorithms were tested on the characteristics of directional and omnidirectional speaker.
Digital Negative Sequence Relay Algorithm for Detection of Unbalanced State in a Generator

There are conditions that can be unbalanced three phase currents in a large generator by untransposed lines, unbalanced loads, unsymmetrical faults, and open phases. The unbalanced conditions can producing negative sequence components of current that induce two times frequence current in the surface of the rotor, the retaining rings, the slot wedges in the field windings. These rotor currents make the rotor rapidly overheat, so the rotor can cause substantial damage in a very short time. This paper presents the digital negative sequence relay algorithm for unbalanced protection in a generator. The proposed algorithm was tested by using collected current signals on PSCAD/EMTDC considering a hydro turbine based generator control system. It can be seen that the proposed relaying by negative sequence current is useful for detection of unbalanced state of large generator.
FFT Based Information Concealing Method for Video Copyright Protection

FFT based fingerprinting to conceal more information has developed for video copyright protection. More complex information of video is necessary to prove an ownership and legal distributions in invisible form. This paper describes a method to insert more information and to detect them.

= 256 where one point of 9 is always turn on. The points are marked in frequency domain that both real and imaginary party numbers are modified. The five successive frames of same scenes are used to mark because the same scene has very similar shape in FFT result. However, the detail values of coefficients are totally different each other to recognize the marked points. This paper also describes a method to detect the marked points by averaging and correlation algorithm. The PSNRs of marked images by our method had 51.138[dB] to 51.143[dB]. And we could get the correlation values from 0.79 to 0.87.
Analysis on Bus Voltage Sag in Power Distribution System with SFCL according to Interconnected Locations of Small DG

This paper analyze the bus voltage sags in the power distribution system with a small scale cogeneration system when the superconducting fault current limiter was introduced. Among the solutions to decrease the short-circuit current considering the locations of the small scale cogeneration system, the superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) has been announced as one of the promising methods to reduce the fault current because the installation of the small scale cogeneration system which increases the short-circuit current. According to the application locations of the small scale cogeneration system in a power distribution system, it has caused the variations of voltage sag and duration which depends on the change of the short-circuit current, which can make the operation of the protective device deviate from its original set value when the fault occurs. To investigate the voltage sag when a SFCL was applied into a power distribution system where the small scale cogeneration system was introduced into various locations, the SFCL, small scale cogeneration system, and power system are modeled using PSCAD/EMTDC. In this paper, the effects on voltage sags are assessed when the SFCL is installed in power distribution system with various locations of the small scale cogeneration system.
Performance Trade-Off Analysis of Handover Schemes in OFDMA-based Cellular Systems

Handover is a technical methodology to support mobility of wireless communication users, which mainly affects the capacity of wireless communication systems and the quality of service (QoS) of link level signal. However, in OFDMA-based cellular systems, there are few published technical reports investigating handovers with respect to diversity gains and resource consumption depending on what handover technique is adopted. In this paper, we propose handover schemes exploiting transmit diversity and macro-diversity in order to increase capacity of OFDMA-based wireless communication systems, and analyze their performance. In cellular environments, depending on what handover scheme is selected, average signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio is calculated first for a handover user in order to evaluate the link level QoS. Through this technical evaluation for handover schemes, we conclude what handover scheme is suitable for OFDMA-based cellular systems.
Electro-Optical Characteristics of the UV Aligned LCD Cell

In this study, we investigated the electro-optical(EO) characteristic of fringe-field switching(FFS) mode cell by the two kinds of ultraviolet(UV) alignment method on the organic thin film(polyimide: PI). The suitable organic layersfor FFS cell and the aligning capabilities of nematic liquid crystal(NLC) using the in-situ photoalignment method were studied Disclination is observed after conventional photoalignment method for 1h, and in-situ photoalignment method for 1h. Monodomain alignment of the NLC can be observed via in-situ photoalignment method for 2h and 3h. It is considered that NLC alignment is due to photo-depolymerization of the polymer with oblique non-polarized UV irradiation on PI surface. An unstable V-T curve of UV-aligned FFS-LCD with conventional photoalignment method can be achieved. However, a stable V-T curve of UV-aligned FFS-LCD with in-situ photoalignment method(1h), and V-T curve of UV-aligned FFS-LCD with in-situphotoalignment method was much stable comparing with that of other UV-aligned FFS-LCD's. As a result, more stable EO performanceof UV-aligned FFS-LCD with in-situphotoalignment method for 3h is obtained than that of the other UV-aligned FFS-LCD's.
