A Study on Decentralized under Voltage Load Shedding Scheme for Preventing Wide-area Black Out

An electric power system sometimes fails because of disturbances that occur unexpectedly, such as the uncontrolled loss of load that developed from cascading blackout. Which make stability through a little of under voltage load shedding should work. The development of phasor measurement unit(PMU) makes network supervision possible. The information obtained from PMU is synchronized by global positioning system(GPS). There are many real-time algorithms which are monitoring the voltage stability. This paper presents the study on the VILS(Voltage Instability Load Shedding) using PMU data. This algorithm computes Voltage Stability Margin Index(VSMI) continuously to track the voltage stability margin at local bus level. The VSMI is expressed as active and reactive power. The VSMI is used as an criterion for load shedding. In order to examine the algorithm is effective, applied to KEPCO system.
Comparison Analysis of Induction Motor using the Equivalent Circuit

Induction motor is the most widely used to obtain the driving force in the industrial site. Induction motor is generally applied to the constant speed operation. Induction motor generates a high current at startup. So analysis for both steady state operation and start-up transient is required. In most cases, an equivalent circuit is used for the characteristics analysis of the induction motor. In this study, the two programs are applied to analyze for the rated speed as well as entire speed range. We confirmed that calculation results of the two programs are similar to each other.

This paper analyzes how to calculate the three phase short circuit current calculation procedures used in the IEC 60909 short circuit. It presented the new procedure of the fault current for the interrupting capacity of the circuit breaker. This procedure is applied to the future power system and calculates the fault current. Power demands are increased because of the growth of the economy for this reason, the fault current of the power system is largely increased and the fault current procedure for the proper interrupting capacity calculation of the existing or the new circuit breaker is essential. How to calculate the three phase short circuit current for ac electrical system and select the high voltage and low voltage circuit breaker based on IEC 60909 standards.

This paper describes the electron transport characteristics in
-He gas calculated E/N values 0.1~700[Td] by the Monte Carlo simulation and Boltzmann equation method using a set of electron collision cross sections determined by the authors and the values of electron swarm parameters obtained by TOF method. This study gained the values of the electron swarm parameters such as the electron drift velocity, the electron ionization or attachment coefficients, longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficients for
-He gas at a range of E/N. A set of electron collision cross section has been assembled and used in Monte Carlo simulation to predict values of swarm parameters. The result of Boltzmann equation and Monte Carlo Simulation has been compared with experimental data by Ohmori, Lucas and Carter. The swarm parameter from the swarm study are expected to sever as a critical test of current theories of low energy scattering by atoms and molecules.
Starting Characterization of Induction Motor using Reactor Tap Change

An induction motor is most widely used to obtain driving force in the industrial field. The induction motor is generated a high current at starting. A starting current is often more than five times of rated current. A high starting current can cause problems such as voltage drop in the power system. In order to solve these problems, a reactor starting method has been widely applied in a large motor capacity. There are differences in the operating characteristics of induction motor corresponding the switching time of reactor tap. In this study, I analyzed that current, torque, power of induction motor are different from changing time and tap setting values of reactor tap.
Alternate Time-Switched Space Frequency Block Coding Technique for Single-Carrier System

This paper proposes an alternate time-switched space-frequency block coding transmission technique for single-carrier modulation with frequency domain equalization. There are two antennas in the transmitter but it still has only a baseband and RF and a switch that alternates between the antennas at every symbol timing. Alternating transmit symbols result in zeros which make maximal ratio receive combining possible in the receiver. Simulation results show that it has better performance than the traditional algorithm at the expense of one additional antenna.
A Study on Performance Evaluation of Energy-Constrained Open-Loop Cooperative Sensing in Cognitive Radios

In cognitive radios, secondary users can use the spectrum exclusively allocated to a primary wireless system if the secondary users detect the spectrum in idle states. Because the secondary users can utilize the idle state of the spectrum, the utilization rate of the spectrum can be improved. The idle states can be detected by using secondary users` sensing schemes. However, the wireless channel environment where secondary users perform the spectrum sensing is not very friendly to secondary users because the signal-to-noise ratio of the received primary signal is very low. Hence, cooperative sensing scheme where more than one secondary user take part in the spectrum sensing is generally used in cognitive radios. In this paper, we investigate the cooperative sensing performance for machine-to-machine communication devices operated by batteries with limited energy. In general, the energy consumed for the spectrum sensing increases as the length of the sensing period and the number of cooperative sensing nodes. Accordingly, even though the total amount of the consumed energy is the same, an energy allocation methodology how to distribute the energy to the sensing period and sensing nodes can achieve the optimum sensing performance, which is numerically analyzed.
A Study on the V2G Application using the Battery of Electric Vehicles under Smart Grid Environment

This study examines the system and process of battery stored energy in vehicles and suggest the effective area for the use of V2G(vehicle-to-grid) from Jeju Smart Grid Demonstration Project. V2G means technology of electric power transmission from the battery of electric-drive vehicles to state grid. As for the increasing of effectiveness for demand-side control, V2G is a very good alternative. In the U.S., the utilization of electric vehicles is under 40% on average. In this case, we can use he battery of electric vehicle as role of frequency regulation or generator of demand-side resource. V2G, which is the element of Smart Transportation, consists of electric vehicle battery, BMS(battery management system), OBC(on-board charger), charging infrastructure, NOC(network operating center) and TOC(total operation center). V2G application has been tested for frequency regulation to secure the economical efficiency in the United States. In this case, the battery cycle life is not verified its disadvantage. On the other hand, Demand Response is required by low c-rate of battery in electric vehicle and It can be small impact on the battery cycle life. This paper concludes business area of demand response is more useful than frequency regulation in V2G application of electric vehicles in Korea. This provides the opportunity to create a new business for power grid administrator with VPP(virtual power plant).

We investigated the dependence of the crystalline and electrical properties in the way of capacitors PZT thin films. Our results show that all PZT films indicated polycrystalline perovskite structure with preferred orientation (110) and no pyrochlore phase is observed. The electric properties of the Ru improved with increasing Ru thin films thickness. A well-fabricated Ru/PZT/Ru (100 nm) /
capacitor showed a leakage current density in the order of
as a 50 kV/cm, a remnant polarization (Pr) of 9.22
, and a coercive field (-EC) of -32.22 kV/cm. The results show that
bottom electrodes are expected to reduce the degradation ferroelectric fatigue and excellent ferroelectric properties.
An Implementaition of Humanoid Control for Education using Kinect

Although there are some calculations of kinetics, dynamics, torque of each joint, size and weight which are used in implementing of humanoid robot, it is too expensive and need much education to make frame of robot body, actuator, and etc. Moreover, since there is lots of differences of operational principle, we need many kinds of experimental and education. However, the real humanoid robot is difficult to propagate because of its prices and other technical problems. Therefore we need small robot platform and control method which can give a enough education effect as similar as real humanoid robot. In this paper, the Kinect Sensor which made by Microsoft will be used for control method of humanoid platform.
