This paper is research result for a development of solar cell silicon ingot glowing(SCSIG) PWM converter system for 120[kW] 3[kA]. The system include 3-phase AC-DC rectifier diode converter of input voltage AC 460[V] and 60[Hz], DC-AC single phase full bridge PWM inverter of high frequency, AC-DC single-phase full wave rectifier using center-tapped of transformer for low voltage 50[V] and large current 3,000[A], carbon resistor load 0.2 [
]. PWM switching frequency for IGBT inverter control set 15KHz. The suggested researching contents are designed data sheets of power converter system, PSIM simulation, operating characteristics and analysis results of developed SCSIG system.
An Analysis of Congestion Cost for Electric Power Transmission in Consideration of Uncertainty of Future Electric Power System

It is expected that there will be delay of scheduled transmission network reinforcement and huge investment of renewable energy resources in Korea. As transmission capacity expansion delayed, supplying power to Seoul metropolitan area will not be increased as scheduled. In addition, uncertain renewable energy out of Seoul metropolitan area can cause transmission congestion in the future power system. These two combining effects will make the difference in locational marginal prices(LMP) and congestion costs increase. In that sense, this paper will analyze how much the congestion costs for Korea power system are incurred in the future power system. Most of previous approaches to analyze the congestion costs for electric power system are based on the optimal power flow model which cannot deal with hourly variation of power system. However, this study attempted to perform the analysis using market simulation model(M-Core) which has the capability of analyzing the hourly power generation cost and power transmission capacity, and market prices by region. As a result, we can estimate the congestion costs of future power system considering the uncertainty of renewable energy and transmission capacity.
Operating Characteristic Analysis of the Induction Generator by the Reactor Starting

In general, the voltage stability of induction generator is lower than synchronous generator. However, induction generator has many advantages rather than a synchronous generator in terms of price and maintenance. So Induction generator is used little by little in small hydroelectric power station rather than 1000kW recently. Squirrel cage induction generator generates a high inrush current at the grid-connection. This high inrush current causes a voltage drop on the grid. In order to increase the penetration of the induction generator, it is necessary to present a method of reducing inrush current. In this study, we suggested that it is possible to present a reactor startup method, by applying the parameter to reduce the voltage drop.
A Study on a Simple Efficiency Estimation of Small DC Motor

This paper proposes a novel efficiency measurement method without dynamometer. In case of small motor, the measurement of efficiency is not easy because the percentage of mechanical loss is comparably huge and the mechanical loss is not easy to be measured. In this paper, the authors proposes a method which can measure the efficiency with two test motors. This method can be useful to engineers who study small electrical motors.
A Study on Digital Protection Algorithm of IED for Hydroelectric Generating Unit

Generator of hydroelectric generating unit is to be protected by the digital protection IED. Now, any IED of large capacity for hydro power plant was not developed by domestic technology. This is because it is required for the generator of the high reliability technology and considered as due to the sale of the market of IED device is small. However, the protection IED must be develop by domestic technology to meet the advanced needs of the construction and replacement of electrical equipment in accordance with the new power plant development. In this paper, a digital algorithms for protection IED of large size of hydroelectric generating unit were designed. The algorithms consist of the stator protection, anti-motoring, overexcitation and loss of excitation. The performance of the algorithms were evaluated by using the simulation data collected from the PSCAD/EMTDC software. From test results, it can be seen that the developed algorithms were not maloperation.
A Study on the Co-LMS Algorithm Characteristics of Real-time Applicants for Road Environment Calming

The active noise control(ANC) method for noise problems solution generally uses filtered-X LMS algorithms. However, Filtered-X LMS algorithms were mainly used but these had a limitation that had to measure a transfer function of secondary noise path. However, newly proposed correlation-LMS algorithms have slightly much calculation and are minutely behind performance, these have a advantage not in measuring transfer function onerously so that we can easily adapt these in real time. Thus Co-LMS algorithm was developed to improve the real-time implementation performance under the variable input noise such as road noise environment. In this paper, the performance of the Co-LMS is presented in comparison with that of the Filtered-X LMS algorithm. Simulation results show that active noise control using Co-LMS have slightly much calculation and are minutely behind performance, these have a advantage not in measuring transfer function onerously so that we can easily adapt these in real time.
A Study on the Priority Decision for Interconnection of PV System on Power Distribution System considering Customer Interruption Costs

In this paper, when photovoltaic systems are connected to distribution system, most effective capacity and location of PV system are studied considering customer interruption costs of power distribution system. The reliability model of PV system considering the duration of sunshine, the model of time-varying load and Roy Billinton test system (bus2 model) are used. To simulate the effects of PV system, various cases are selected; (1) base case which is no connection of PV system to power distribution system when faults are occurred, (2) 3MW case which is 3[MW] connection of PV system (3) 4[MW] case, and (4) 20[MW] case which is 20[MW] connection of PV system to the bus of power distribution system. The capacity limit of connected PV system is settled to 14[MW] for all cases except case 4. The reliability and customer interruption costs for residential, general, industrial, and educational customer is evaluated.
Demonstration to Operate and Control Frequency Regulation of Power System by 4MW Energy Storage System

Operation and control system has been installed and tested to use energy storage system(ESS) for frequency regulation at 4MW class of ESS demonstration facility installed at Jeju island, Korea in 2013. Simulation tests were performed by programing language C# for power system of Jeju island to develop control algorithm. Site simulation tests were performed in control system itself without connecting power system and energy storage system. Control algorithm was coded, modified and tested to load to controller and communication system and human-machine interface were developed and tested in the process of simulation tests. After similar results to that of simulation tests by programing language were obtained, power system and energy storage system demonstration facility were connected to control system by communication system. Energy storage system for frequency regulation was tested for actual frequency and simulation frequency. The site tests showed the similar results to that of simulation tests and the control systems is possible to be operated for frequency regulation. Faster response of energy storage system for frequency regulation, less costs and less capacity of energy storage systems which cover for frequency regulation of power plants. It is expected that more studies for time-reduction and time-delay elements can make less capacity of energy storage system cover more role of frequency regulation of power plants.
A Study on Railroad Vehicle Lighting Environment

This paper investigates the lighting environment of railway system which are mainly used in KTX, Saemaul and Mugunghwa. When lighting used in KTX such as fluorescent lamp and incandescence is being replaced with LED lamp, illumination load of each railroad vehicle has been compared. The comparison result shows that the reduction of power consumption is 43.34% before and after the change. Also it has been performed the economic evaluation.
Development of Integrated Start-up and Excitation System for Gas Turbine Synchronous Generator

Power conversion systems used in large gas turbine power plant can be divided into two main part. Because of the initial start-up characteristic of the gas turbine combustor, the gas turbine must be accelerated by starting device(LCI : Load Commutated Inverter) up to 10%~20% of rated speed to ignite it. In addition, the ECS(Excitation Control system) is used to control the rotor field current and reactive power in grid-connected synchronous generator. These two large power conversion systems are located in the same space(container) because of coordination control. Recently, many manufactures develop high speed controller based on function block available in the LCI and ECS with the newest power semiconductor. We also developed high speed controller based on function block to be using these two system and it meets the international standard IEC61131 as using real-time OS(VxWorks) and ISaGRAF. In order to install easily these systems at power plant, main controller, special module and IO module are used with high speed communication line other than electric wire line. Before initial product is installed on the site, prototype is produced and tests are conducted for it. The performance results of Integrated controller and application program(SFC, ECS) were described in this paper. The test results will be considered as the important resources for the application in future.
Development of Daily Peak Power Demand Forecasting Algorithm with Hybrid Type composed of AR and Neuro-Fuzzy Model

Due to the increasing of power consumption, it is difficult to construct accurate prediction model for daily peak power demand. It is very important work to know power demand in next day for manager and control power system. In this research, we develop a daily peak power demand prediction method based on hybrid type composed of AR and Neuro-Fuzzy model. Using data sets between 2006 and 2010 in Korea, the proposed method has been intensively tested. As the prediction results, we confirm that the proposed method makes it possible to effective estimate daily peak power demand than conventional methods.
Throughput Analysis of Wireless Transmission Platform using Multiple Wireless Chips for M2M Networks

Various M2M applications have different quality-of-service(QoS) requirements to be implemented practically. QoS requirements are normally data rate and delay constraint. However, there are limited number of wireless communication chip solutions which cannot support QoS requirements for all M2M application. Hence, aggregated usage of plural wireless communication chip solutions should be needed to implement M2M applications. In this paper, we consider the case that two wireless communication chips using random access protocol work together to transmit data of an M2M application. In such case, data rate and delay performance are mathematically analyzed. In our results, practical data rate can be improved from 2.5 to 7 times while delay constraints are satisfied if we simply use two wireless communication chips together.

narrower because of array antenna geometry and the side lobe is about 10dB higher partially than theoretical beam pattern. But the overall beam pattern is similar with theoretical beam. This Butler matrix can be applied to switching beam antenna of 5.8GHz band Wi-Fi and WAVE system.
A Study on the implementation of a Portable Http Live Streaming Transmitter

In this Paper, We proposed the HLS(Http Live Streaming) transmitter which is operated easily and cheap in all networks and client environments compared to the exist video live streaming transmitter. We analyzed the HLS protocol and then implemented for making the HLS transmitter cheaper and portable. After designing the HLS transmitter hardware using the RISC processor of Arm11 core, we ported the Linux Operating System and implemented the HLS protocol using the open source FFmpeg and Segmenter. For the performance evaluation of the developed HLS transmitter, we made the testing environment which is including the notebook, iPhone, and aroid Phone. In this testing environment, we analysed the received video data at the client displayer. As a results of the performance evaluation, we could certify that the proposed HLS transmitter has a higher performance than the Apple company's HLS.
A Study of Power Output Characteristics for the Magnesium Metal Fuel Cell

The electric power output characteristics of magnesium fuel cell were investigated with regard to internal resistance. A equivalent circuit with the series-connected three internal resistance was introduced to analyze of the response to change of power. The power output analysis was employed in order to investigate the effect of internal resistances for the electrolyte concentration, air electrode area, Mg electrode area and distance between the electrodes. It was confirmed that internal resistance is generated by the electrolyte, air electrode and metal electrode, then those Internal resistances had a significant effect on the power output decrease. The power output was a maximum when the load resistance maches the internal resistance of the magnesium fuel cell. The fuel efficiency was only 50% at maximum power output. Higher fuel efficiency was achieved when the load resistance is greater than the internal resistance.
