The electro-mechanical mercury relay is used as an auxiliary relay of power facility because it is superior to operating time and no-bounce. So the KEPCO had used the mercury relay for operating HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) system. But it has many problems with facility operation by occurrence of mercury evaporation, held contact point and malfunction according to long term use, furthermore it is forbidden to produce for fear of environmental pollution in 2002. This paper presents the no-mercury relay development, comparison test and application.

This paper proposes a parameter estimation technique of a power transformer. Based on the combined equation, it estimates separately the primary and secondary leakage inductances using the least square method from the instantaneous voltages and currents in the steady state. The performance of the proposed technique was investigated by varying the cut-off frequency of the filter and the number of samples per cycle. The estimated values are obtained based on the average value for 41 cycle.
An Improved Method of Faulted Section Identification Algorithm in Distribution Automation System

This paper proposes an improved fault indication algorithm in a distribution automation system. A conventional fault indication method, so called YES-NO algorithm, could generate wrong informations under certain conditions such as line to ground fault, large motor double circuit line. In order to prevent mal-operation of fault indicator, direction of fault current are used as well as magnitude. The feasibility of the proposed algorithm has been testified by computer simulation using Matlab power system toolbox.

In order to improve the efficiency of service restoration function in the current Distribution Automation System (DAS), in this paper it is proposed a more advanced and efficient service restoration approach using Multi-Agent technique based on distributed networks. In the current DAS, communication networks or protocol structures are centralized with communications between the central station and FRTU through 1:1 connection. In order to maintain the current systems and enhance the proposed Multi-Agent based service restoration scheme, a device of communication and intelligence, named MASX, is newly developed to make a FRTU as an agent to cooperate each others. the proposed system applied in a demo system for an distribution automation system and shows 8 times reduction of restoration time in restoration of blackouts.
A Study on a New Power Flow Method for Analysis of AC Electric Railway System and Improvement of Voltage Drop Using a STATCOM

This paper presents a new power flow method to analyze the AC electric railway system effectively in both cases of traction and regenerative braking of the trains. The algorithm to easily solve the power flow of the AC electric railway system with the trains of regenerative braking from the system without a train of regenerative braking is derived. Using this new power flow method, the voltage characteristics of a typical AC electric railway system is easily analyzed in both cases of traction and regenerative braking of the trains. We show that the presented method can be applied effectively in order to analyze the AT-fed AC electric railway system in both cases of traction and regenerative braking of the trains. A STATCOM(Static Synchronous Compensator) is applied to the system in order to improve the voltage drop problem and this case is also analyzed to show the effect of STATCOM.
Development of the Automative Correction System for the Digital Over-current Relay With Distribution System

In the distribution system, Change of system happens frequently. However, most of the relays are operated manually by a person or not changed when system changed. So, when fault happened, a case that relaydoes not act rapidly happens. Also, in current power system, digital relays are used because of digitization of relay. Digital relay has very many advantages than existing analog relay. One of these advantages is that communication is available and easily can make characteristic curve. If specific values are sent to a relay by communication, A relay can make suitable characteristic curve according to the value. In this paper, by using voltages and currents measured by relay, state of CB(Circuit Breaker) and these relays, SCADA(Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system that control and correct characteristic curve of overcurrent relay at system change by using HMI(Human Machine Interface) is proposed.
A Study on Analysis of Inverter-fed Induction Motor's Bearing Current using Improved Equivalent Ciruit Parameters

An inverter driven induction motor has more superior dynamic characteristic than sine wave driven induction motor. But it has a problem with shaft voltage and bearing current in drive-motor system. This paper presents the analysis of bearing current in inverter-fed induction motor. The proposed method is based on using numerical method (FEM) to derive parasitic parameters in motor. Using the electric field analysis with FEM, the stored energy in dielectric materials of the motor can be calculated and the parasitic capacitances are obtained. Then we compared the proposed method with a conventional method in variable frequency and load conditions. From the comparision of simulation and experiment result, we confirmed that the proposed method is valid.
Improvement of Output Characteristics and Acoustic Noise Characteristics for Single Phase Induction Motor with Concentrated Winding

In general the distributed winding method is applied for induction motor in order to have the sinusoidal flux distribution. Recently the concentrated winding method is the interested technique so as to lower the material cost portion of copper coil. In the concentrated winding induction motor the harmonic flux and the torque deterioration by it would be occurred. To restrain ill effect of harmonic flux distribution by concentrated winding, the skew of rotor conduction bar is very important design variable. This study is focused on the optimal design of rotor bar's skew and winding turns for concentrated winding induction motor. In this study, the control method of harmonic parasitic torque in concentrated winding induction motor is proposed and validated its practicality through the experiment. As a result of this study, large skew angle which was not conventional in distributed winding was favorable in the concentrated winding induction motor. The concentrated winding induction motor which is designed per the proposed method of this study can be manufactured more cost effectively than conventional distributed winding.
Optimal Design of Single-Phase Line-Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor by using Design of Experiment

In this paper, optimized model was designed for the starting characteristic of the Single-Phase Line-Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor by using the Design of Experiment. A field pole angle, thickness and distance from center axis of permanent magnet were selected as design factor. We executed the transient state characteristic analysis of 8 test models. The transient state characteristic analysis was executed by using the 2 dimensional Finite Element Method and the Time Difference Method. We checked the fact that the selected design factor affected starting characteristic of the Line-Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. Depend on this result we found the optimized design point by using the response optimization.
A Voltage Control Technique of Line-Interactive DVR Using 7-Level H-Bridge Inverter

Recently, the interest on power quality has been hot issue because the equipments cause voltage disturbance and have become more sensitive to the voltage disturbance. Additionally, the reseach on power electronic equipments applying to the high power has been increased. This paper deals with Line-Interactive Dynamic Voltage Restorer(LIDVR) system using 7-Level H-Bridge inverter, which is one of the solutions to compensate the voltage disturbance and to increase the power of equipments. The LIDVR has the following advantages comparing to the DVR with the series injection transformer. It has the power factor near to unity under the condition of normal source voltage, can compensate the harmonic current of the load and the instant interruption, and has the fast response. First, the construction, the operation mode and algebraic modeling of LIDVR are reviewed. And then the voltage control algorithm is proposed to get the sinusoidal load voltage with constant amplitude. Finally, simulation and experiment results verify the proposed LIDVR system.
The Compensating Unbalanced Source Voltages for Unified Active Power Filter System

This paper suggests of a 3-phase 3-wire unified active power filter. The system is composed of a series active power filter and a parallel active power filter. The proposed series active power filter compensating unbalance source voltage and current harmonics of the parallel active power filter improves power factor. The proposed algorithm which improves for power factor and harmonic reduction are calculated by the performance function, and which compensates for the unbalanced source voltage is calculated based on the symmetrical component analysis. We composed a combined system of the series active power filter and parallel active power filter to confirm a validity of the proposed control methods. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is confirmed by the experiments.
A Operating Status Diagnosis of DC/DC Converter by System Identification

In this paper, we propose a new diagnosis method of DC/DC converter aging. The method is based on variations of the parasitic resistor for the aging process. We apply an on-line diagnosis of the DC/DC converter because the observation is not a device, but a system. This study proposes a method of DC/DC converter diagnosis by analyzing the variations of model on the variations of parasitic resistor.
A Study on The Actual Application of the Least Order Load Observer and Effective Online Inertia Identification Algorithm for High Performance Linear Motor Positioning System

As well known when the linear machine is operated between two points repeatedly under positioning control, there are various positioning error at the moment of zero speed owing to the non-linear disturbance like as unpredictable friction force. To remove this positioning error, a simple least order disturbance observer is introduced and is actually implemented in this study. Due to this simple algorithm the over-all machine system can be modified to simple arbitrary given one-mass load without any disturbance. So, the total construction process for positioning control system is much easier than old one. Moreover, to generate a proper effective position profile with the limited actual machine force, a very powerful on-line mass identification algorithm using the load force estimator is presented. In the proposed mass identification algorithm, the exact load mass can be calculated during only one moving stage under a normally generated position profile. All presented algorithm is verified with experimental result with commercial linear servo machine system.
A Study on the Improvement of Mechanical and Chemical Properties in Nano Semiconducting Materials

In this paper, we have investigated mechanical and chemical properties by changing the content of carbon nanotube, which is component part of semiconductive shield in underground power transmission cable. Specimens were made of sheet with the eight of those for measurement. The condition of specimens was a solid sheet. Chemical properties of specimens was measured by FT-ATR (Fourier Transform Attenuated Total Reflectance). Stress-strain of specimens was measured by TENSOMETER 2000. A speed of measurement was 200[mm/min], ranges of stress and strain were 400[Kgf/Cm] and 600[%]. We could observe (unctional group (C=O, carbonyl group) of specimens through FT-ATR. From these experimental result, the concentration of functional group [C=O] was high accor야ng to increasing the content of carbon nanotube. We could know CNT/EEA was excellent more than other specimens from above experimental results. In Addition, the elongation ratio was decreased, and yield strength was increased according to increasing the content of carbon nanotube. Also, from these experimental result, we could know that a small amount of CNT/EEA has a excellent mechanical and chemical properties.
A Gate Modification Method Using the Input Vector Maximizes the Number of Gates in WLS within the Optimum Range

In this paper, we propose a new gate modification method using the input vector maximizes the number of gates in WLS within the optimum range of the minimum leakage power. We prove that MLV is not always the optimal solution, and that the leakage power and area can decrease when modifying the gates using the input vector for which the number of gates in WLS is maximized within the optimum range of the minimum leakage power for the circuits applying the IVC technique and gate modification method. Using the proposed method, the gate-level description circuit can be converted to the modified circuit which reduces the leakage power by chip designer, and the modified circuit can be applied without any modification in design flow.
Electrical Conduction Mechanism of AIN Insulator thin Film Fabricated by Reactive Sputtering Method for the Application of MIS Device

in the field of 0.1 MV/cm, and it was gradually increased and to be saturated in 0.2 MV/cm. The C-V characteristics of the above mentioned deposition temperature conditions showed a deep depletion phenomenon at inversion region. The C-V characteristics showed similarly under the DC power conditions of 100 and 150 W but were degraded at 200W. When the DC power was 100, 200, and 300 W the dielectric breakdown phenomenon was shown in 2.8, 3.2 and 5.2 MV/cm, respectively. It was found that AIN film was dominated by Poole-Frenkel conduction mechanism.

A Design of Attaching the Antenna to USPCS Band FEM

Integration of RF front end module(FEM) into the antenna has been investigated in USPCS band (1.88GHz-1.99GHz). The FEM consists of input filter, power amplifier, coupler, power detector, bias switch and duplexer. The antenna was designed in planar inverted F antenna(PIFA) structure to implement it inside the handset. In order to avoid strong coupling between the antenna and FEM, a shielding ground layer was placed between them. The antenna size is 19mm by 10mm by 6mm under which FEM whose size is 8mm by 5mm by 1.5m locates. The antenna impedance was selected to match to FEM having better efficiency rather than gain since FEM has enough gain whose system spec is minimum of 20dB. The antenna patterns are shown with and without FEM.
Stable Atmospheric Plasma Generation at a Low Voltage using a Microstructure Array

A microstructure array has been proposed for micro plasma generation using electroplating and double exposed process. A stable atmospheric plasma has been generated at a low voltage by utilizing the micro electrode gap. Self-aligned microstructure can provide uniform electrode overlap with precisely controlled gap between the electrodes. The proposed structure allows for triode operation, which can expand the generated plasma over a large area by applying a lateral electric field. Electrical characteristics of the micro triode confirm the large numbers of the plasma ions are drifted to the secondary cathode by the lateral electrical field.
Position Control of Linear Motor based Transfer Systems using Fuzzy Inference

In this paper, we present a novel control approach for linear motor-based transfer systems in which friction reduction and enhancement of control performance are considered. In general, in such systems friction effects from rails and wheels, and internal bearings complicate control scheme since in particularly its dynamics are arbitrarily changed due to mass variation, detent force of motor systems, and gaps among stators. Our control approach is achieved to reduce this undesired friction dynamics using fuzzy system. We construct hybrid control approach for this control system which Is composed of a nominal control and a vertical control against friction. Fuzzy parameter vector is optimally determined from iterative simulation experiments. We demonstrate its superiority via numerical simulations comparing with a traditional control method.
Implementation of the Multi-Channel Network Controller using Buffer Sharing Mechanism

This paper presents an implementation of a new type of architecture to improve an overflow problem on the network buffer. Each receiver channel of network system stores the message in its own buffer. If some receiver channel receives many messages, buffer overflow problem may occur for the channel. This paper proposes a network controller that implements a receiver channel with shared-memory to save all of the received messages from the every incomming channels. The proposed architecture is applied to ARINC-429, a real-time control network for commercial avionics system. For verifying performance of the architecture, ARINC-429 controller is designed using a SOPC platform, designed by Verilog and targeted to Xilinx Virtex-4 with a built-in PPC405 core.
A New Two-Level Index Mapping Scheme for Pipelined Implementation of Multidimensional DFT

This paper presents a new index mapping method for DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) and its application to multidimensional DFT. Unlike conventional index mapping methods such as DIT (Decimation in Time) or DIF (Decimation in Frequency) algorithms, the proposed method is based on two levels of decomposition and it can be very efficiently used for implementing multidimensional DFT as well as 1-dimensional DFT. The proposed pipelined architecture for multidimensional DFT is very flexible so that it can lead to the best tradeoff between performance and hardware requirements. Also, it can be easily extended to higher dimensional DFTs since the number of CEs (Computational Elements) and DCs (Delay Commutators) increase only linearly with the dimension. Various implementation options based on different radices and different pipelining depths will be presented.
Image Reconstruction Using 2D M-ch Perfect Reconstruction Filter Bank with Optimized Adaptive interpolation kernel

In this paper, we propose an image reconstruction method utilizing an optimized adaptive interpolation kernel along with a 2D M-channel perfect reconstruction filter bank (M-ch PR-FB) structure. In particular, the proposed approach leads to construction of a sharper image than a direct conversion, still preserving high frequency components of the original image through the subband processing of the 2D M-ch PR-FB. Finally, the image quality of the proposed approach is demonstrated by comparing with those of the direct methods using conventional interpolation kernels.
Design and Implementation of BACnet MS/TP Field Controller Prototype and MS/TP Network Monitoring System

BACnet is an international standard communication protocol especially designed for building automation and control systems. BACnet uses the Master-Slave/Token-Passing (MS/TP) protocol as one of its field-level networks. A BACnet MS/TP field controller prototype and MS/TP network monitoring system are developed in this study. This report introduces the design and implementation methodology of a BACnet MS/TP field controller hardware, firmware and protocol stack. This report also presents the implementation methodology of BACnet MS/TP network monitoring system using VTS (Visual Test Shell). The methodologies introduced in this report will facilitate the develop and implementation of the BACnet-based control systems in building automation area.
Spike Variable Analysis of Surface EMG Signal During Constant Voluntary Contraction

This paper presents an analysis of the SEMG signal quantitatively and automatically using spike variables : MSF, MSA, MSS, and MSD. The SEMG signals were recorded in three muscle parts, first dorsal interosseus, biceps brachii and abductor policis brevis, from 14 normal subjects. Emphasis was placed on the following 3 points in the experiments. 1) Suggest proper window length to estimate the spike variables 2) Investigate variation of the spike variables to varying %MVC. 3) Investigate variation of the spike variables to the sustained contraction for 30 minutes. Quantitative results were showed and examined in point of practical clinical application.
Development of a Vision System for the Measurement of the Pendulum Test

The purpose of this work is to develop a measurement system of the pendulum test with minimal restriction of experimental environment and little influence of noise. In this work, we developed a vision system without any line between markers and a camera. The system performance is little influenced by the experimental environment, if light are sufficient to recognize markers. For the validation of the system, we compared knee joint angle trajectories measured by the developed system and by the magnetic sensor system during the nominal pendulum test and the maximum speed voluntary knee joint rotation. The joint angle trajectories of the developed system during both tests matched well with those of the magnetic system. Therefore, we suggest the vision system as an alternative to the previous systems with limited practicality for the pendulum test.
