Analysis of Economic Life Cycle for Hydro-Generator Based on Annual Equivalent Cost Method

Today, the power utilities is setting on the slow load growth and the aging of power equipment, and then could spend the efforts on the stability of system performance. Asset management may be defined as the process of maximizing corporate profit by maximizing performance and minimizing cost over the entire life cycle of power equipment. Therefore, asset management is great way to fulfill the economic investment and the stability of system performance. This paper presents the application of effective asset managem ent from an economic perspective. A proposed method is considering the life cycle analysis using life cycle cost methodology for hydro-generator during the total life cycle. The life cycle cost methodology include a way to calculating maintenance and operating costs. The proposed method will be expected to play an important role in investment decision making considering economic evaluation.
A Study on Protection of Generator Asynchronization by Impedance Relaying

Asynchronous phenomenon occurs on the synchronous generators under power system when a generator`s amplitude of electromagnetic force, phase angle, frequency and waveform etc become different from those of other synchronous generators which can follow instantly varying speed of turbine. Because the amplitude of electromagnetic force, phase frequency and waveform differ from those of other generators with which are to be put into parallel operation due to the change of excitation condition for load sharing and the sharing load change, if reactive current in the internal circuit circulates among generators, the efficiency varies and the stator winding of generators are overheated by resistance loss. Where calculation method of protection settings and Logic for Protection of Generator Asynchronization will be recommended, A distance relay scheme is commonly used for backup protection. This scheme, called a step distance protection, is comprised of 3 steps for graded zones having different operating time. As for the conventional step distance protection scheme, Zone 2 can exceed the ordinary coverage excessively in case of a transformer protection relay especially. In this case, there can be overlapped protection area from a backup protection relay and, therefore, malfunctions can occur when any fault occurs in the overlapped protection area. Distance relays and overcurrent relays are used for backup protection generally, and both relays have normally this problem, the maloperation, caused by a fault in the overlapped protection area. Corresponding to an IEEE standard, this problem can be solved with the modification of the operating time. On the other hand, in Korea, zones are modified to cope with this problem in some specific conditions. These two methods may not be obvious to handle this problem correctly because these methods, modifying the common rules, can cause another coordination problem. To overcome asynchronizing protection this paper describes an improved backup protection coordination scheme using a new Logic that will be suggested.
A Study on an Algorithm of Line Switching and Bus Separation for Alleviating Overloads by the Use of Line Power Tracing and Sensitivity

In this paper, a new algorithm for alleviating overloads in power networks by the use of line power tracing and sensitivity is proposed to perform line switching and bus separation effectively. Also, a new bus separation index based on line power tracing is presented to find the bus to be separated for relieving overloads effectively. By applying the sensitivity of the line flow with respect to the change of the line impedance, both switching-on and switching-off of the lines for alleviating overloads in power networks are performed systematically at once. The number of the considered cases for line switching and bus separation can be greatly reduced and the best combination of line switching and bus separation can be acquired efficiently by the use of the sensitivity and the bus separation index. In order to show the effects of this algorithm, it is applied to a small scale power system of IEEE 39-bus system and practical power systems of KEPCO.

Congestion and Loss Cost for the Market Participants

Recently the power system consists of the more complicated structure, due to increase of power demands. In this circumstance, the congestion and loss capacity in transmission line is also increased. Accordingly, the investment planning of transmission system is required to reduce the congestion and loss of the transmission line. This paper proposes a method to compute the congestion and loss costs which are the key elements in economic assessment of the power system planning. And the benefit of market participants in CBP (Cost Based Pool) is computed. To demonstrate the efficient of the suggested methods, these methods are applied to peak load system of 2016 in the 4th Basic plan of Long-Them Electricity Supply and Demand.

Substation Automation System (SAS) based on IEC 61850 is becoming more and more reality in applying power systems. As well, the development of various engineering tools and the convergence with diagnostic systems are underway. To reflect recent advancements in SAS technology, the Korea Electric Power Corporation initiated a 154kV SAS pilot project and a smart power grid business in 2010. In this paper, the authors will summarize the overview and the lessons learned in applying the IEC 61850-based 154kV Main transformer bay IED solutions to these two project.

In this paper, we proposed the outer-rotor type of FSPM motor for high speed operation and optimized motor shape. First of all, combinations of pole and slot numbers are examined for the optimal back-EMF and cogging torque, then optimizes the better shape design of the permanent magnet, rotor pole width. Further, The winding turns are obtained by circle of the voltage limit equation and motor parameters to minimize the current and to improve the efficiency. As a result, the performance of the designed model is satisfied, and it is verified through a two-dimensional finite element method (2D-FEA).
High Speed Operation of Fuel Injectors with Over Current Protection

High speed drive method for a fuel injector cleaner with current control is presented in this paper. The fuel injector cleaner is used for cleaning the fuel injectors in vehicles when it is clogged with deposit and rust. The fuel injector cleaner cleans the fuel injector by turning on and off the fuel injector rapidly. When the fuel injectors are cleaned, the switching speed is very important. However, when the fuel injector is turned off, the residual current in the fuel injector coil slows down the return action of the plunger in the fuel injector deteriorating performance and speed of the fuel injector cleaner. In this paper, fast turn off operation method of fuel injectors is developed for more effective cleaning. The simulation and experiment results show the validity of the proposed method.
Discontinuous Conduction Mode Current Control using a Current Gain Feedforward Compensation for Boost Converter

In this paper a new current control method is proposed for the discontinuous conduction mode of boost converter. The proposed method using a current gain feedforward compensation adjusts a measured inductor current value and then, calculated an average current precisely in the discontinuous conduction mode as well as continuous conduction mode. By applying the proposed method, the current measurement error is significantly reduced to 2% regardless of the operating points. The proposed method is analyzed and its performance is investigated in simulation. To verify the feasibility of the proposed scheme, a 10kW 3-phase interleaved boost converter was built and experimental results are matched to the simulation results.

A time based software simulator for the PRT system operation is presented. The purpose of the simulator is to estimate the passenger transportation performance of the PRT system. In this paper, it is presented how the system is modeled in the simulator to estimate passenger transportation performance and the running algorithm of the modeled subsystem. An application sample is also presented to find the system`s design parameter to satisfy the transportation needs.

In this paper, robust multi-level perturbation and observation (MLPO) maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control are presented of the environmental change including the solar radiation and temperature. Because the maximum power point of the Photovoltaic (PV) is changing according to the solar radiation and temperature, the technology which traces the maximum power point in order to increase the power efficiency is recognized as the very important part. The general requirement for the MPPT is that system is simple, the cost is inexpensive, the PV tracking function and output change are small. Conventional perturbation and observation (PO) method is a simple system but there is the disadvantage that an efficiency of system becomes low. In addation, the incremental conductance (IC) control is required expensive CPU because of a large of calculations. In order to solve this problem, in this paper, the MLPO MPPT control using the method diversifying the step size according to the environment condition is presented. The validity of the MLPO method presenting from this paper is proved through analyzing the solar power generation output error at the steady state.
A Study on an Operating Conditions for the Direct Ethanol Fuel Cell

The goal of this paper is to find an operating conditions of the single direct ethanol fuel cell such as the cell temperature, and flow rates of ethanol and oxygen. To investigate the output characteristics, the electrical current increased from 0[A] with interval of 0.001[A] every 2[s], and the cell voltage was increased until the voltage became 0.05[V]. Related to the effect of the cell temperature, the output characteristics both voltage and power were increased upto 80[
] according to the increase of the current density, but those were decreased over that temperature. In addition, the optimal flow rate of ethanol in anode was identified as of 2[mL/min] due to the dependence of generation rate such as the hydrogen ion and electron. And the flow rate of oxygen in cathode was desirable to about 300[sccm/min], it might be affected by the chemical reaction rate of the water formation among hydrogen ion, electron, and oxygen. Consequently, the fundamental conditions were identified in this work, and it will be carried out to find the best conditions of membrane by the effect of the plasma surface treatment, and the effect of other catalysts except for a platinum.

A Study on Practicality of Condition Monitoring Method of Accelerated Thermal Aging CSPE

The accelerated thermal aging of CSPE(chloro sulfonate polyethylene) of test cables were carried out for the period equal to 10, 20 and 30 years in air at
, respectively. The CSPE cables(TAIHAN electric wire Co. Ltd) which installed in nuclear power plant for three years were used as starting materials. Condition monitering methods of the accelerated thermal aging of CSPE cables were estimated through indenter modulus and OIT(oxidation induction time) of IEC 62582, and those were newly estimated through volume electrical resistivity, ultrasound reflection time, density, FE-SEM(field emission scanning electron microscopy), XPS(x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), EDS(energy dispersive spectroscopy), and WD-XRF(wavelength dispersive x-ray fluorescence). A new condition monitoring methods of the accelerated thermal aging of CSPE cables were generally coincident with trend of indenter modulus expect EDS, XPS and XRF. A volume electrical resistivity among new condition monitoring methods of the accelerated thermal aging of CSPE cables is excellent. It is considered that life-time of CSPE cable can be predicted through volume electrical resistivity, if CSPE jacket was aged for period such as more than 20 years.

Discharge analysis technique for dielectric liquid was presented by using the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) under a lightning impulse incorporating two-phase flow phenomena which described gas and liquid phases in discharge space. Until now, the response of step voltage has been extensively explored, but that of lightning impulse voltage was rarely viewed in the literature. We, therefore, developed an analyzing technique for dielectric liquid in a tip-sphere electrode stressed by a high electric field. To capture the bubble phase, the Heaviside function was introduced mathematically and the material functions for the ionization, dissociation, recombination, and attachment were defined in liquid and bubble, respectively. By using this numerical setup, the molecular dissociation and ionization mechanisms were tested under low and high electric fields resulted from the lightning impulse voltage of 1.2/50
. To verify our numerical results, the velocity of electric field wave was measured and compared to the previous experimental results which can be viewed in many papers. Those results had good agreement with each other.

In this paper, the problem of passivity analysis for neural networks with time-varying delays and norm-bounded parameter uncertainties is considered. By constructing a new augmented Lyapunov functional, a new delay-dependent passivity criterion for the network is established in terms of LMIs (linear matrix inequalities) which can be easily solved by various convex optimization algorithms. Two numerical example are included to show the effectiveness of proposed criterion.
A Study on Development of SVC to Improve Harmonics and Power Factor of Power Plant

The power system has to maintain its synchronism from transient disturbances and oscillations. To achieve this, the static var compensator(SVC), which is a flexible AC transmission system(FACTS), is applied to the power system. SVC using an advanced control algorithm improves the stability of power system. This paper is a study on design of SVC to improve harmonics and power factor of power plant. The proposed SVC analyzes harmonics, voltage drop and reactive power in real time. On the basis of the analysis of the data, the SVC using a switching control algorithm decreases harmonic signals and increases the power factor. The experimental results show that the proposed SVC enhances the stability of power system.

This paper proposes new delay-dependent robust stability criteria for neural networks with time-varying delays. By construction of a suitable Lyapunov-Krasovskii`s (L-K) functional and use of Finsler`s lemma, new stability criteria for the networks are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) which can be easily solved by various effective optimization algorithms. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

GPS is vulnerable to jamming because of extremely low signal power. Many anti-jamming techniques are studied for complement this vulnerability. Anti-jamming techniques using array antenna are most effective technique and these techniques are required the DOA estimates. MUSIC algorithm and Root-MUSIC Algorithm are typical algorithms used in DOA estimation. Two algorithms have different characteristics, so the choice of an algorithm may depends on many factors such as the environment and the system requirements. The analysis and performance comparison of both algorithms is necessary to choose the best method to apply. This paper summarizes the theory of MUSIC and Root-MUSIC algorithms. And this paper extends both algorithm to estimate two-dimensional angles. The software simulator of both algorithms are implemented to evaluate the performance. Root-MUSIC algorithm has the computational advantage on ULA. MUSIC algorithm is applicable to any antenna array. MUSIC shows better estimation performance when number of array element is small while the computational load of MUSIC is much higher than Root-MUSIC.
A Robust Adaptive Friction Control of Robot Manipulators using Sliding Surface

In this paper, a robust adaptive controller is proposed for trajectory tracking of robot manipulators with the unknown friction coefficient and bounded disturbance. A new adaptive control law is developed based on sliding mode and derived from the Lyapunov stability analysis. The introduction of a boundary layer solves the problem of chattering. The proposed adaptive controller is globally asymptotically stable and guarantees zero steady state error for joint positions. The estimated friction coefficients can also approach the actual coefficients asymptotically. A simulation example is provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

In this paper, we propose the formation control algorithm for swarm robots. The proposed algorithm uses the artificial potential field(APF) to plan the global path of swarm robots and to control the formation movement. The navigation function generates a global APF for a leader robot to reach a given destination and an avoidance function generates a local APF for follow robots to avoid obstacles. Finally, some simulations show the validity of the proposed method.

In this paper, we propose the novel behavior control algorithm by using the efficient searching method based on the characteristic of the swarm robots in unknown space. The proposed method consists of identifying the position and moving state of a robot by the dynamic modelling of a wheel drive vehicle, and planing behavior control rules of the swarm robots based on the sensor range zone. The cooperative search for unknown space is carried out by the proposed behavior control. Finally, some experiments show the effectiveness and the feasibility of the proposed method.

In this paper, we introduce a new category of fuzzy inference system based on Type-2 fuzzy c-means clustering algorithm (T2FCM-based FIS). The premise part of the rules of the proposed model is realized with the aid of the scatter partition of input space generated by Type-2 FCM clustering algorithm. The number of the partition of input space is composed of the number of clusters and the individual partitioned spaces describe the fuzzy rules. Due to these characteristics, we can alleviate the problem of the curse of dimensionality. The consequence part of the rule is represented by polynomial functions with interval sets. To determine the structure and estimate the values of the parameters of Type-2 FCM-based FIS we consider the successive tuning method with generation-based evolution by means of real-coded genetic algorithms. The proposed model is evaluated with the use of numerical experimentation.
Theoretical Consideration About Separate Order for the Electrical Work - Focusing on the Policy Implementation Theory -

The separate order for the electrical work is an institutional plan to improve the electrical construction quality and strengthen the competitiveness of the electrical contractors. The systematic approach for the policy implementation of the separate ordering system can make its adaptability higher and lead to a policy success. There are many kinds of effects on the implementation of the separate order, but institutional foundation is needed for increasing the policy adaptability. The necessity of the systematic and theoretical foundation was detected in various factors by considering policy implementation theory. In order to fix the separate ordering system, reasonable methods such as finding inducements and offering incentive are more effective than legal procedures. At last, a variety of policy adaptability plans must be founded in order to invigorate the separate ordering system in a view of the policy implementation.
Development of an Arc Detector Assessment System by Loss of Contact Between Pantograph and Contact Wire in Electric Railway

The objective of this paper is to discuss technologies on assessing reliability of arc detectors by composing a system that generates and simulates occurrence of arc caused by loss of contact between pantographs and contact wires in a laboratory condition. In order to establish the arc simulator, a device that generates light having the bandwidth of arcs that occur between carbon-metal. The simulator was designed under conditions of EN 50317 and simulations were conducted using the developed device. According to the results, it was possible to conduct certification tests following regulations of international standards and the precision of the simulator was satisfactory. The proposed arc detector assessment system is expected to enhance precision of current collection quality performance assessment methods at high-speed lines and conventional lines while being referred as fundamental technologies for development of detectors suiting international conditions.

This paper estimates the life cycle cost(LCC) of a propulsion control system using the maintenance information in the high speed train(KTX-1). Life cycle costing is one of the most effective approaches for the cost analysis of long-life systems such as the KTX-1. Until now, most life cycle cost of the system has been studied as a whole system viewpoint. But in case of railway industry, LCC studies are needed on the subsystem like a propulsion control system because subsystems are developed continuously localization. This paper proposes the life cycle cost model which fitted to estimate life cycle cost (LCC) using maintenance information manual. As a result, LCC on propulsion control system increased moderately expect for periodical time when major parts are replaced at the same time. Results will be reflected in the development of domestic products.
