A Study on Requirement of Nuclear Power Plant Load Following Operation Condition Considering Power System Security

Nuclear power generation is increasing domestic power supply ratio by lower CO2 emission and fuel prices. Currently, nuclear power generator has been operated with maximum power output. Therefore, nuclear power generator could be no effect to managing the reactive power reserve on power system. The reactive power reserve is calculated to the difference between maximum facility and operation generation capacity of the power system. This paper was proposed that load following of nuclear power is control by using 15-bus power system model. In the simulation result, power system is shown to safety state by operating load following of nuclear power generator. This method has be improved the supplied reliability through economic and efficient operation.
Voltage Sag Assessment Considering the Characteristics of Wind Power

This paper presents a method for assessing the voltage sag performance of power system involving wind power generation. Wind power generation is considered as one of the most desirable renewable energy sources. However, wind power generation have uncertain energy output and it is difficult to control the output. The existing methods of voltage sag assessment are not reflected the characteristics of wind power generation. Therefore, in order to more accurately assess the voltage sag performance, the probability of wind power operation is evaluated. In this paper, the probability is determined by combining the wind speed model with the output curve of wind turbine. The probability of wind power operation is reflected as a parameter in voltage sag assessment. The proposed method can provide more accurate results of voltage sag assessment for the case involving the wind power generation.
Variation of Load Management Incentive Considering Prenotification Period

There are 3 systems in incentive-based normal load management in Korea; day or hour-ahead, week-ahead, months-ahead. These are originally similar in their operational implementation, but differ in their pre-notification period. Therefore the incentive of these systems should be different according to prenotification period. This is the key problem in implementing these load managements. Customers participating in these load managements feel their economic differences, depending on the risk by prenotification dates. The shorter prenotification period, the more risk take the customers. This paper proposes the method of incentive variation in prenotification difference, by using the theory of financial yield curve, which is used in analysing short and long duration bond interesting rates and is reflecting risk premium in their period.

The grid-interconnected microgrid can be able to operate with and without the utility microgrid to supply electricity. when the microgrid operates in grid-connected mode, the frequency of the microgrid synchronizes with the system frequency. In this case, the frequency of the microgrid has small variation which is able to change the output of distributed generation with a droop controller. Thus, the small variation of frequency can make the distributed generation generate unnecessary electricity consistently. In this paper, we propose a frequency droop control with a dead band so as to prevent the distributed generations from generating unnecessary output while in grid-interconnected mode. In addition, a distributed generation can have a restoration control to restore the frequency changed by a droop control as a rated frequency. Also, we state the problem of restoration control with a dead band, and propose its solution when the microgrid operates in stand alone mode. We simulate the proposed droop control using PSCAD/EMTDC to verify the validity of the control.

Depend on delay latency rule for message transmission defined in IEC 61850 standard, the fastest message has to be transferred within 3us. This paper suggests how to structure the real time message transmit test environment of IEC 61850 and develope how to securing IEC 61850 communication performance based on IEC 61850 by measuring delay latency of message transfer on embeded linux system.
High Speed Performance Improvement of the WRSM and its Comparison with the IPMSM

This paper shows an improvement of the WRSM (Wound Rotor Synchronous Motor) by satisfying the voltage limit condition at high speed. After that, it compares the performance of the improved WRSM to that of the IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor). The comparison has been made under the condition where the dimension of the motor is identical to that of the IPMSM, having the rotor switched to a wounded rotor form. Moreover, this paper compares the Basic Model of the two motor, and estimates the parameters of the WRSM, thereby proposing the method to improve high speed performance. Furthermore, this paper presents the feasibility of switching the conventional motor into rare-earth-free motors for traction purpose.
A Study on AC Machine Modeling using Complex Vector and dq Transformation

Three-phase voltage and current is applied to the three-phase alternating current motors which are commonly used in industry. Three phase variables of a, b, c are converted into d, q, 0 axis and the AC machines are modeled and analyzed. Basically the coordinate transformation or d-q transformation is used for convenience, a few steps are needed to analyze the motor performances - separating d and q components, establishing each equivalent circuit, and solving the differential equations of the circuits. In this study, a modeling technique of induction motor using complex vector is proposed and it can explain the induction motor physically. This method does not need the separating process of d and q components. With this technique, the model becomes simple, is easy to understand in physical, and can get the same results with those from the other models. These simulation results of the proposed model are compared with them for the conformation of the proposed method.
Improved Hysteresis Current Control Regulator for High-efficiency Switching

Hysteresis current regulator has been used widely because of its simple principle and structure. However, when the current band width is too narrow or the applied voltage is relatively too high, the switching frequency may increase abruptly and it generates a large amount of heat. Thus, this study will suggest a better and simple method to reduce the switching frequency. For single phase current control, the proposed hysteresis current control is executed by adding 0 mode state and comparing the slope of the current reference. This simple method decreases the generated switching frequency and significantly reduces the generated heat. This proposed method was proved with simulations and experiments comparing with the classical hysteresis current control method.
A Study on Auxiliary Pole and Teeth Combinations for Edge Effect Reduction of Stationary Discontinuous Armature PM-LSM with Concentrated winding

Recently, the stationary discontinuous armature Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor(PM-LSM) was suggested as a driving source for long-distance transportation system. However, as these motors arrange armatures discontinuously, there occurs an edge which causes the cogging force. This works as a factor that bothers acceleration and deceleration that takes place when movers enter into and eject from the armatures. Therefore, installation of auxiliary teeth on the edge of armature of PM-LSM is suggested in order to reduce cogging force caused by the edge when the armature is placed in a discontinuous arrangement. But length of auxiliary teeth can be changed if install it with auxiliary pole in order to decrease more and more edge cogging force. On this, in the study, decided on a design variable of auxiliary teeth and used 2-D FEA, and examined edge cogging force characteristic along this in order to grasp length of auxiliary teeth changed according to installation positions of an auxiliary pole.
Current Sensorless Control of the Voltage Bus Conditioner for a DC Power System with Parallel Pulsed Power Loads

A DC power system has many loads with varied functions. Also, there may be large pulsed loads with short duty ratios which can affect the normal operation of other loads. In this paper, Voltage Bus Conditioner(VBC) without any current sensors is proposed to damp the bus voltage transients by parallel pulsed loads. The proposed control approach requires only one voltage sensor and carries out both the functions of damping the bus voltage transients and maintaining the level of energy stored. The proposed control technique has been implemented on a TMS320F2812 Digital Signal Processor(DSP). Simulated results by a Matlab Simulink and experimental results are presented which verify the control principles and demonstrate the practicalty of the approach.

In the lighting industry, a Lighting Emitting Diode (LED) is increasingly used because of many advantages and a eco-friendly product comparing with the conventional lighting. However, the LED lighting has to include various AC/DC converters because the direct current is used for the LED lighting. Among a lot of power converters, the flyback converter is widely used for the LED lighting and includes some electrolytic capacitors for the voltage regulation. But the electrolytic capacitor has shorter lifetime than the LED element. It makes the expected life-time of the converter having the electrolytic capacitor shorter than the LED element. This paper proposes the single-stage PFC flyback converter without electrolytic capacitors. To verify the performance of the proposed converter, simulated and experimental works were carried out.

This paper develops the high-efficiency drive system of the small-size electric vehicles (EVs) driven by the brushed dc motors. A power circuit for driving the dc motor is designed with the H-bridge circuit and buck converter by considering both the efficiency and cost. In order to change smoothly the rotating direction of dc motor driven by the proposed power circuit, an operating sequence for both the field current and the armature voltage according to an accelerator pedal angle is suggested. Through the simulation studies and experimental results with the low-cost 8-bit AVR, the performances of the proposed methods are verified.

In this study, the ZnO nanorod is grown on the seed layered glass substrate by applying an external electric field to fabricate the ZnO nanorod with the high quality and to increase the yield of the ZnO nanorod. It is possible to grow the definite and clear hexagonal ZnO nanorod as the cathode of the high voltage is connected to the side of the seed layered glass substrate and the anode is connected to the opposite side because more
ions are located around the ZnO seed layer and are accumulated easily due to the external electric field. As a result, it is succeeded to fabricate the definite hexagonal ZnO nanorod having better structural characteristics by applying the external electric field during the growth process. Therefore, it is demonstrated that the external electric field is effective to fabricate the high quality ZnO nanorod without changing any composition of the ZnO nanorod.

This paper describes the design of size-reduced ring hybrid couplers (RHC) using a common defected ground structure (CDGS). The proposed RHC consists of double-sided microstrip line and the CDGS patterns which are placed in the common ground plane of the double-sided microstrip line. The effects of DGS as a periodic structure are imposed on both microstrip lines, so the advantages of the existing DGS are doubled. The normal RHC is designed first and folded by the half reference plane with the CDGS realized on the common ground plane. So another trial for size-reduction is performed by folding the RHC and inserting CDGS besides to the conventional DGS. In order to show a design example, a 2GHz RHC is designed and miniaturized using CDGS. The size of the miniaturized RHS is around 50% of the normal one, while the performances are well preserved even after the size-reduction.

In this paper, a satellite array antenna operates at 12.2GHz~12.75GHz was designed and fabricated. The lowest height and high gain electrical beam tilt was obtained by applying backed slot and sub-reflector widening the distance between the patch and the GND. This paper introduces a GP(Genetic Programming) based robust technique for temperature compensation in short-range prediction. Development of an efficient MOS(Model Output Statistics) is necessary to correct systematic errors of the model, because forecast models do not reliably determine weather conditions. Most of MOS use a linear regression to compensate a prediction model, therefore it is hard to manage an irregular nature of prediction. In order to solve the problem, a nonlinear and symbolic regression method using GP is suggested. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of the estimation by a GP based nonlinear MOS for 3 days temperatures in Korean regions. This method is then compared to the UM model and has shown superior results. The training period of 2007-2009 summer is used, and the data of 2010 summer is adopted for verification.
User-Specific Reconfiguable Modular Device for u-Healthcare Services

In this paper, we present a reconfigurable mobile platform (RMP) for user-specific applications. The RMP consists of a basic module and more than one extended module that offers specified functions to a portable platform based on the circumstances and purposes of the users. The extend module for specified purposes is connected to the basic module using a common interface that offers interoperability to the traditional interfaces. This paper gives the results of a survey to determine specifications of a reconfigurable mobile platform. Utilizing the results of the survey, we propose a prototype of the reconfigurable mobile platform to enable specialized functions. The design objective is to provide specialized functions required for user specific needs related to their age and physical condition. In addition, it can be used for mobile healthcare applications that are efficient in improving the user`s health conditions by executing medical analysis and prescriptions.

A Study on the ripple cancellation using two cascading Chebyshev filters

This study is focusing on ripple elimination in the band pass filter. There are generally two design methods in IIR filter design, which are a direct method and an indirect one. The indirect design method that designs the digital IIR LPF using the prototype analog LPF is applied to this study. A Butterworth filter and a Chebyshev filter are the typical prototype analog LPFs. This study shows characteristics of the digital IIR LPFs that are transformed from the prototype analog LPFs. The designed Butterworth and Chebyshev IIR LPFs are also designed as the band pass filters by frequency transformation in order to compare with the proposed cascading Chebyshev BPFs. This study shows frequency characteristics between the transformed IIR BPFs and the proposed cascading Chebyshev BPFs as well. The proposed cascading Chebyshev BPF is designed by cascading the different orders of Chebyshev BPFs. The aspect of the cascading filter is offsetting the ripples to descend them while the pass band ripples of the Chebyshev filter are ascending and vice versa. The designed cascading Chebyshev filter shows the flatness and the sharpness, which represent the advantages of Butterworth filter in the pass band and of Chebyshev filter in the transition band respectively. This result verifies the validity of the designed filter.
Noise Reduction Method for Particle Measurement System using Beta-ray Absorption Method

The Beta-ray absorption method (BAM) gives a good solution for measuring the mass concentration of atmospheric particles(PM10 and PM2.5). To determine particular matters (PM) concentration, a ratio of the number of detected beta-ray intensity passing through the clean filter and the dust-sampled filter is used. These intensity data measured in air pollution monitoring such as PM10 and PM2.5 usually contained the additive noise(thermal noise, power supply noise and etc.). Therefore, the estimation performance of mass concentration can be deteriorated by these noises. In this paper, we present a new noise reduction method that is essentially required to develope an automatic continuous PM monitoring system using beta-ray absorption method. By combining the block data averaging technique and curve fitting, in the proposed method, the additive noise can be reduced in the measured data. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, computer simulations were performed with computer generated signals as the input.

In this paper, we propose a WFAN (Wireless Fighter Area Network) system based on Koinonia modems is proposed. Also, we suggest that the proposed Koinonia WFAN system is a suitable solution for indoor and outdoor wireless network of fighters. Additionally we compare the Koinonia WFAN system with the overseas ASMT (Advanced SubMiniature Telemetry). Finally we show the communication experiment results, the system requirements, and the implementation methodology of the Koinonia MFAN.
Measuring Blood Pressure Using Oscillation Signal from an Automatic Sphygmomanometer

This study describes an oscillometric-based blood pressure measuring algorithm by detecting turning points of oscillation signal from digitally filtered cuff signals of an automatic sphygmomanometer. The blood pressure measuring algorithm uses a characteristic ratios method from the turning points. The accurate values of the systolic/diastolic blood presures(SBP/DBP) are calculated using the peaks in the ranges of characteristic ratios. Performances of the proposed algorithm and four automatic sphygmomanometers are compared with the mercury manometer(manual type sphygmomanometer), regarding the SBP and DBP values of manual sphygmomanometer as the reference values. The performance test showed the proposed algorithm revealed the best results in errors and a statistical analysis. Therefore this algorithm can be usable in any automatic sphygmomanometers.ssure states. This may be compromising results for subject-independent sensibility evaluation using EEG signal.
A Study on the Modeling for Reducing High-Speed Train KTX`s Interior Noise using Active Noise Control Technique

In this paper, experiments were conducted to validate the importance and necessity of modeling. The modeling was performed using 120Hz and 280Hz noise of KTX main interior noise frequency. After the modeling, In order to solve the system instability by the additional path that exists between the control speaker and the error microphone, the secondary path was estimated. Next, simulations were performed to verify the modeling`s necessity and importance. Thought the simulation results, we confirmed that the system with the modeling is more effective for noise reduction than without the modeling.

To increase speed up of train, in the field of catenary system, it is necessary to develop of new monitoring methods for dynamic interaction between pantograph and contact wire. Also, there is a need to develop technologies that constantly measure are from various railway structure such as uplift of contact wire, vibration of catenary, dynamic strain of contact line in tunnel. In this paper condition monitoring systems for dynamic performance of catenary systems in tunnel were proposed. An advanced method and results of field tests using high speed camera for monitoring of vertical upward movement of the grooved contact wire due to the force produced from the pantograph were presented. The proposed uplift measurement system of contact wire is expected to enhance precision of current collection quality performance assessment methods at high-speed lines.
Basic Modeling and Analysis for AC Railway System based on BTB Voltage Source Converter

The scott transformer is used to supply single-phase power to the AC railway system. Since the scott transformer is a passive facility, it cannot regulate load-side voltage according to load change. Meanwhile, the Voltage Source Converter (VSC) is able to convert the voltage and control active and reactive power. In this paper, the feasibility of a AC railway system based on Back-to-Back (BTB) VSC which is composed of a rectifier, a DC-DC converter, a inverter, has been proposed. A three-phase to single-phase BTB VSC is modeled. The proposed AC railway system based on BTB VSC is tested on Matlab/Simulink.

The research of superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) for reduction of the fault current is actively underway in the worldwide. In this paper, we analyzed the characteristics of a SFCL using the transformer and superconducting elements combined mutually in accordance with the fault types. The structure of this SFCL was composed of the secondary and third windings of a transformer connected to the load and the superconducting element, respectively. The provided electric power flew into the load connected to the secondary winding of the transformer in normal state. On the other hand, when the fault occurred in power system, the fault current was limited by closing the line of third winding of the transformer. At this time, the effect of the fault was minimized by opening the fault line in secondary winding of a transformer in power system. The sensing of the fault state was performed by the current transformer(CT) and then turn-on and turn-off switching behavior of the secondary line in the transformer was performed by the silicon-controlled rectifier(SCR). As a result, the proposed SFCL limited the fault current within one-cycle efficiently. Also, the degradation of the superconducting element in the normal state was avoided.

This paper describes the background of the electrical safety emergency dispatch system and analyzes the operational status of the system. This system is to provide the enhanced electrical safety service to general-purpose electrical equipment users. Annual average of about 6 million cases have been implemented since 2005. In order to enhance electrical safety service and more effectively prevent electrical disasters in future, institutional expansion of the electrical safety emergency dispatch system with keeping budget is necessary. If periodic inspections with a remote monitoring system is applied, the effect of electrical safety will be improved.

With the development in industry, power demand has increased rapidly. As consumption of power has increased, Demand for new power line and electric capacity has risen. However, in the event of fault, problems occur in extending the range of fault coverage and increasing fault current. In these reasons, protection devise is recognized as the prevention of an accident and fault current. This paper dealt with minimizing fault propagation and limiting fault current by adjusting fault current limiter (FCL) with fast interrupter. At this point, we compared and analyzed characteristics between non-inductive resistance and fault current which is limited by superconducting units. In normal state of the power system, power was supplied to the load, but when fault occurred, the interrupter was operated as CT which detected the over-current. Its operation made the limitation of fault current through a FCL. We concluded that the limiter using superconducting units was more efficient with the increase of power voltage. Superconducting fault current limiter with the fast interrupter prevented the spread of a fault, and improved reliability of power system.
Wire Rope Fault Detection using Probability Density Estimation

A large number of wire rope has been used in various inderstiries as Cranes and Elevators from expanding the scale of the industrial market. But now, the management of wire rope is used as manually operated by rope replacement from over time or after the accident.It is caused to major accidents as well as economic losses and personal injury. Therefore its time to need periodic fault diagnosis of wire rope or supply of real-time monitoring system. Currently, there are several methods has been reported for fault diagnosis method of the wire rope, to find out the feature point from extracting method is becoming more common compared to time wave and model-based system. This method has implemented a deterministic modeling like the observer and neural network through considering the state of the system as a deterministic signal. However, the out-put of real system has probability characteristics, and if it is used as a current method on this system, the performance will be decreased at the real time. And if the random noise is occurred from unstable measure/experiment environment in wire rope system, diagnostic criterion becomes unclear and accuracy of diagnosis becomes blurred. Thus, more sophisticated techniques are required rather than deterministic fault diagnosis algorithm. In this paper, we developed the fault diagnosis of the wire rope using probability density estimation techniques algorithm. At first, The steady-state wire rope fault signal detection is defined as the probability model through probability distribution estimate. Wire rope defects signal is detected by a hall sensor in real-time, it is estimated by proposed probability estimation algorithm. we judge whether wire rope has defection or not using the error value from comparing two probability distribution.
