Improvement of the Power Flow Convergency Using Switched Shunt Reactive Power Sensitivity

It is difficult to converge power flow for the power system planning data. The main cause of power flow diverse is reactive power imbalance. A active power could be adjust by ELD or merit order but a reactive power couldn`t dispatch before power flow analysis. The lack of reactive power of power system is cause a inadequate voltage drop This paper suggest new reactive power dispatch algorithm using switched shunt admittance. This algorithm uses reactive power sensitivity called switch shunt jacobian. When proposed algorithm applies to real system data that couldn`t be conversed in PSS/E the power flow analysis is converged.
Analysis of THD according to Output Power Fluctuation of Photovoltaic Generation System using Real Time Simulator

This paper analyzes the THD(Total Harmonics Distortion) according to output power fluctuation of photovoltaic(PV) systems using real time simulator. For being close to reality, the PV system including inverter and MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) which composed of closed-loop using real-time simulator are modeled. The change of irradiance and temperature of PV module is modeled to consider the change of weather. The various simulations according to the weather conditions are performed and THD is calculated at each condition. In this paper, the results by off-line simulation are compared with the ones of real time simulation.

In nuclear plants, UVR (under voltage relay, 27r) of 1E bus, which protected and supplied power to essential loads, to safety trip of reactor and supplied to starting signal of EDG (emergency diesel generators) automatically. therefore UVR tolerances setting and calculation method has been important to nuclear facility. If calculation and tolerances values differ or ignore, may induced power loss and economical loss by protective failure. This paper show results for calculation methods, and whether dependant or independent methods for factors. included whether PT (potential transformer/voltage transformer) tolerance or not adapted, and based on UVR setting method within a difference minimum and maximum of rated voltage to safety operation in nuclear plants.
A Fault Location Algorithm Using Adaptively Estimated Local Source Impedance for a Double-Circuit Transmission Line System

This paper presents a fault location algorithm based on the adaptively estimated value of the local sequence source impedance for faults on a parallel transmission line. This algorithm uses only the local voltage and current signals of a faulted circuit. The remote current signals and the zero-sequence current of the healthy adjacent circuit are calculated by using the current distribution factors together with the local terminal currents of the faulted circuit. The current distribution factors consist of local equivalent source impedance and the others such as fault distance, line impedance and remote equivalent source impedance. It means that the values of the current distribution factors can change according to the operation condition of a power system. Consequently, the accuracy of the fault location algorithm is affected by the two values of equivalent source impedances, one is local source impedance and the other is remote source impedance. Nevertheless, only the local equivalent impedance can be estimated in this paper. A series of test results using EMTP simulation data show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The proposed algorithm is valid for a double-circuit transmission line system where the equivalent source impedance changes continuously.
A Study of Analysis for Small Buried Type Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator Considering Armature Resistance Effect

Small permanent magnet generator can be used not only as an emergency power source but also an exciting power source of generator for small generating systems because it does not need the external exciting power source. Especially the air-gap flux density of the buried PM synchronous generator can be increased more than that of the permanent magnet. In this study, the analysis of the small buried type PM synchronous generator is performed. From the phasor diagram considering armature resistance for exact analysis, analytic equations are induced and the efficiency, developed voltage, load current are calculated. The experimental results are compared with the calculated results for the appropriateness.
A Study on the Influence of Mutual Inductance between Wayside Transmitter and On-board Receiver upon Frequency Response in ATS Device

Railroad signaling systems perform controlling the distance and routes between trains. Signaling methods on the wayside are to control passively the train speed by using signal flags which are installed on the wayside. ATS(Automatic Train Stop) device is used as the signaling method on the wayside in Korea. The ATS device is assistance equipment of engineers. Signal information is transmitted by combining mutual inductance between the wayside transmitter and on-board receiver. The wayside transmitter performs changing oscillation frequency according to the signal information. The on-board receiver performs controlling the train by receiving the frequency. Currently, the oscillation frequency on the on-board receiver is 78[kHz] in case of normal state. When the on-board receiver is over the wayside transmitter, the oscillation frequency is changed by capacitors of the wayside transmitter according to signal flags. In case of changing the oscillation frequency, the waveform is modified in the wayside transmitter and on-board receiver. This phenomenon is that other signals or communication frequency are included. In this paper, electric model between the wayside transmitter and on-board receiver is suggested and frequency response in the wayside transmitter and on-board receiver including other signals is estimated by the coupling coefficient. Also, the value of coupling coefficient is proposed to exclude other signals and demonstrated by using Matlab and PSpice program.
Comparative Analysis of Charging Modes of Series Resonant Converter for an Energy Storage Capacitor

In this paper, charging modes of series resonant converter for a high voltage energy storage capacitor are compared in terms of charging time, peak resonant current, normalized peak resonant current and voltage in each operation mode. Operating principles of the full bridge series resonant converter with capacitor load are explained and analyzed in discontinuous and continuous operation mode. Based on the analysis and simulation result,
are evaluated to the best range of switching frequency for charging of an high voltage energy storage capacitor. 1.8 kJ/s SRC prototype is assembled with TI 28335 DSP controller and 40 kJ, 7 kV energy storage capacitor. Design rules based on the comparative analysis are verified by experiment.

The aim of this research is to develop more actual high-frequency power generators that includes various noise, to make flexible control systems for test or performance analysis of electric and electronic machines. It proposed power generating circuits using basic amplifier, B-level Push-Pull type, and FPGA for the easier control to get data and transmit. And it also testify to realize the proposed systems to report output data by input waveform and designed the digital LPF with MATLAB, universal simulation tools, for this study.
A Study on the Electrical Characteristics of Photovoltaic Module Depending on Micro-Crack Patterns of Crystalline Silicon Solar Cell

This study investigated the process of thermal-induced growth of micro-crack developed at the crystalline solar cell using EL image, determined the output characteristic according to the pattern of micro-crack, analyzed the I-V characteristic according to the pattern of crack growth, and predicted the output value using simulation. The purpose of this study was, therefore, to investigate the process of thermal-induced growth of micro-crack developed at the early stage of PV module completion using EL image, to analyze the resulting decrement of output and predict the output value using simulation. It was observed that the crack grew increasingly by the thermal condition, and accordingly the lowering of output was accelerated. The output values of crack patterns with various direction were predicted using simulation, resulting in close I-V curve with only around 4% of error rate. It is considered that it is possible to predict the electric characteristic of solar cell module using only pattern of micro-crack occurred at solar cell based on our results.
Design and Implementation of Fluid Flow Generation System by using Water Captures

This paper proposes the design and implementation of fluid flow generation system by using polypropylene(PP) water capture, which harvests electric energy from the kinetic energy of tidal current or water flow and drives the desired load, and applies it to the discharge drain of Hadong thermal power plant. This experimental system is composed of water captures, driving wheel, gear trains, 10[kW] synchronous generator, and three phase rectifying circuit which drives lamp load for test. The proposed water capturing system which is composed of water captures, rope and driving wheel, rotates as caterpillar according to water flow. This system is very easy to manufacture and more economical than another type of tidal current turbines such as conventional propeller and helical type. Also, we estimated the available fluid flow energy that can be extracted from the cooling water in discharge drain based on drain`s cross-sectional area. Therefore, this paper confirms the validity of proposed fluid flow generation system with water captures and the possibility of its application for renewable energy generation in discharge drain of thermal power plant, from the obtained performance characteristic of this energy conversion system.
A Study of CMOS Device Latch-up Model with Transient Radiation

Transient radiation is emitted during a nuclear explosion. Transient radiation causes a fatal error in the CMOS circuit as a Upset and Latch-up. In this paper, transient radiation NMOS, PMOS, INVERTER SPICE model was proposed on the basisi of transient radiation effects analysis using TCAD(Technology Computer Aided Design). Photocurrent generated from the MOSFET internal PN junction was expressed to the current source and Latch-up phenomenon in the INVERTER was expressed to parasitic thyristor for the transient radiation SPICE model. For example, the proposed transient radiation SPICE model was applied to CMOS NAND circuit. SPICE simulated characteristics were similar to the TCAD simulation results. Simulation time was reduced to 120 times compared to TCAD simulation.

In this paper, we have designed and fabricated 7-bands (GSM 850/900, DCS/PCS, and UMTS 3 bands) LTCC front end module (FEM) embedded LPF (low pass filter) to efficiently eliminate harmonics generated in TX path. The proposed FEM is composed of flip-chip typed CMOS SP9T switch to select transceiver signals, dual type SAW filters to receive Rx signals, and 0603 size chip components for the antenna matching and ESD protection. The Integrated Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor using Polymer Optical Waveguide

We propose a novel micro surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor system based on polymer materials. The proposed SPR system consists of the incident medium with polymer waveguide and the gold thin film for sensing area. Using a polymer optical waveguide instead of a prism in SPR sensing system offers miniaturization, low cost, and potable sensing capability. The whole device performance was analyzed using the finite-difference time domain method. The optimum gold thickness in the attenuated total reflection mirror of polymer waveguide is around 50 nm and the resonance angle to generate surface plasmon wave is 68 degrees.
Design of the 10MHz and 10W Power Source for Short Distance Wireless Power Transmission

In this paper, we have designed and manufactured 10MHz power source for the application of short distance wireless power transmission. The designed power source consists of a DDS(direct digital synthesizer) signal generator, a buffer driver and a balanced power amplifier. Short range wireless power transmission is usually carried out by near-field inductive coupling between source and load. The distance variation between source and load gives rise to the change of load impedance of power amplifier, which has effect on the operation of power amplifier. To overcome this problem due to load variation of power amplifier, we have adopted the balanced power amplifier using the quadrature hybrid implemented by lumped capacitors and a mutually coupled coil. The experiment results show the above 40dBm output power, frequency range of 9 to 11MHz, and total DC power consumption of 36W.
The Development of Boiler Feedwater Master Control System for Power Plant

Almost domestic power plants are being operated by foreign distributed control system. Many korean power plants are being operated over their lifetime so they need to be retrofitted. So we are developing the distributed control system to solve this problem by our own technique. The simulator was already made to verify the reliability of the algorithms. The unit loop function tests of all algorithms were finished in the actual distributed control system for installation of power plant and their results were satisfactory. The unit loop function tests are for each unit equipment algorithm. So the total operation tests will be made with all algorithms together in the actual distributed control system to be applied to power plant. When the verification through all tests is finished, algorithms with hardware will be scheduled to be installed and operated in the actual power plant. This research result will contribute to the safe operation of the deteriorated power plant and korean electric power supply as well as domestic technical progress. This entire processes and results for the development are written for the example of boiler feedwater master algorithm out of all algorithms in this paper.
Explorized Policy Iteration For Continuous-Time Linear Systems

This paper addresses the problem that policy iteration (PI) for continuous-time (CT) systems requires explorations of the state space which is known as persistency of excitation in adaptive control community, and as a result, proposes a PI scheme explorized by an additional probing signal to solve the addressed problem. The proposed PI method efficiently finds in online fashion the related CT linear quadratic (LQ) optimal control without knowing the system matrix A, and guarantees the stability and convergence to the LQ optimal control, which is proven in this paper in the presence of the probing signal. A design method for the probing signal is also presented to balance the exploration of the state space and the control performance. Finally, several simulation results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed explorized PI method.
Non-fragile Guaranteed Cost Control of Uncertain Nonlinear Systems with Time-varying Delays in State and Control Input

In this paper, we present a non-fragile guaranteed cost control design method for uncertain nonlinear systems with time varying delays in state and control input, even though the controller gain is perturbed. The uncertain nonlinear term in the systems is norm bounded and the linear matrix inequality(LMI) optimization method is employed as a stability analysis of the systems. We design a robust controller and show the asymptotical stability of uncertain time-varying systems based on Lyapunov method. Also, we guarantee a specific level of performance of the systems. The simulations are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Robust Passive Low-order Filtering for Discrete-time Uncertain Descriptor Systems

In this paper, we consider the problem of a robust passive filtering with low-order for discrete-time singular systems with polytopic uncertainties. A BRL(bounded real lemma) for robust passivity with a dissipativity of discrete-time uncertain singular systems is derived. A low-order robust passive filter design method is proposed by new reduced-order method and LMI(linear matrix inequality) technique on the basis of the obtained BRL. Finally, illustrative examples are presented to show the applicability of the proposed method.
Automatic Extraction of Component Inspection Regions from Printed Circuit Board by Image Clustering

The inspection machine in PCB (printed circuit board) assembly line checks assembly errors by inspecting the images inside of the component inspection region. The component inspection region consists of region of component package and region of soldering. It is necessary to extract the regions automatically for auto-teaching system of the inspection machine. We propose an image segmentation method to extract the component inspection regions automatically from images of PCB. The acquired image is transformed to HSI color model, and then segmented by several regions by clustering method. We develop a modified K-means algorithm to increase the accuracy of extraction. The heuristics generating the initial clusters and merging the final clusters are newly proposed. The vertical and horizontal projection is also developed to distinguish the region of component package and region of soldering. The experimental results are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed method.
Two-Dimensional Navigation Error for Geometry of Landmark in Line-Of-Sight Measurement Based Vision Navigation System

Geometric effect of landmarks to the navigation error is investigated in the two-dimensional line-of-sight measurement based vision navigation system. DOP is derived between line-of-sight measurement error and navigation solution error. For cases of three landmarks in an area, variations of the DOP were observed through computer simulations. Vision navigation system experiments were performed for the cases. Simulation and experimental results show that navigation solution errors have similar trend to DOP values of the simulation.
A Control Technique for the Rail Potential Limit Device in DC Feeding System

Nowadays, in metropolitan railroad, DC feeding system is being generally applied. In order to reduce damage of electro-chemical corrosion caused by stray current and leakage current, in DC feeding system, rail is used as negative-polarity return conductor for traction load current. However, it has problem of rail potential increase and there are no adequate measures to prevent it in domestic. The rise of rail potential leads to damage for human and equipments. To solve the problems, this paper presents fundamental theory and related standards about rail potential increase. And then, we analyzed field testing data and simulated a variety of operations by using PSCAD/EMTDC as an analysis program of power system. In addition, this paper suggests rail potential limit device and addresses how to the device. To verify the effect, simulation of DC feeding system before and after the application of the device is carried out in various cases.
Design of IEC 61850 Logical Nodes for Modeling Protective Elements of Selective-Breaking Integrated Protective Relay for DC Traction Power Supply System

There are several protective relays used to protect DC traction power supply system for DC railway. These relays, however, are made by different manufactures and they have different ways for their operations. Therefore, there are difficulties for cooperation between the devices or the devices and an upper system. In order to increase interoperability and stability of the system composed of devices made by different manufactures, IEC 61850 international standards are applied to design logical nodes for modeling protective elements used in protective relays.
The Characteristic of Data Transmission for Power Line Communication using an AC Arrester for Electric Railway

Power line communication(PLC) is a kind of communication technology, was made use of controling a frequency narrow band, but as the PLC technology developing, in the near future get to the commercial step that is broadband PLC upto 30 MHz. This paper deals with the PLC of electric railway using capacitive signal coupler. An AC arrester for catenary is used as a capacitive signal coupler, has the characteristic of capacitor. As a result of field test, a messenger wire used PLC contain much of conducted noise about overall frequency band and also signal attenuation rate increased with increasing frequency between two points. and the communication speed of PLC used messenger wire is 793kbps at a distance of 40m. Experimental results show the possibility of PLC using a messenger wire and an AC arrester for catenary at electric railway.
