Development of the Discrimination Algorithm for Event and Variation in Distribution System Using S-transform

Recently, by increasing of devices which are sensitive to power quality, the deterioration of power quality has been accelerated. For this reason, the social and economic losses are increased. So not only correct measurement and evaluation, but also countermeasure for improvement of power quality is surely necessary for both electric power supplier and consumer. In this paper, the discrimination algorithm for events and variation occurred in distribution systems using S-transform is proposed. Firstly, we review for events and variations that occur in distribution system. Next, we simulate events and variations on various conditions using ElectroMagnetic Transient Program(EMTP). For the simulation, the IEEE 13 Node Test Feeder and KEPCO's distribution system is modeled. Finally, for the analysis, a modified wavelet transform known as S-transform is adopted to find out the characteristics of each events and variations.

This paper presents the operation strategy of KEPCO(Korea Electric Power COporation)
60MW Bipole HVDC system that will be applied between Guemak C/S(converter station) and Hanlim C/S in Jeju island. Unlike intertie HVDC system, this system is located in AC power grid inside. Therefore, the enhancement of system security related with line flow and bus voltages can be major operation strategy. In this paper, in particular, the optimal operation algorithm in the abnormal(not steady state) power system is presented and simulated.
Analysis of Electric Substitution Effects by the Gas Consumption and Characteristics of Gas Cooling System

Recently, the amount of electrical heat pump(EHP), a electrical conditioning equipment, is sharply increasing due to the luxury and multi-story trend of building. Accordingly, the cooling load that occupying substantial part of summer electric consumption has increased dramatically, making difficulties in domestic supply of electricity in summer. There are some efforts to replace it with an alternative cooling equipment such as gas heat pump(GHP), a gas cooling equipment, in order to solve the problem of summer electricity supply through reducing the summer electricity peak. It is rare, however, to find studies on the actual effects of GHP on the reduction of summer electricity peak. This study, therefore, estimated the effects of the GHP on the summer electricity peak by the gas consumption and characteristics of gas cooling systems. In addition, electric substitution effects by gas cooling systems were analyzed through case studies in the summer of 2010.
A Development of Reduced-scale Model to Predict of Environmental Characteristics of AC/DC Hybrid Overhead Transmission Line

To review application of HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) transmission line to HVAC T/L in operation, reduced-scale model was designed and manufactured. The arms of model were designed to change height and interval of conductors. Electrical environmental interferences were estimated by various configuration of AC 345kV and DC 250kV T/L. The interferences such as electric field intensity and ion current density were measured and converted reduced-scale factor to full-scaled. Additionally, effects between AC and DC T/L were studied.
An Analysis of Optimal Installation Condition and Maximum Power Generation of Photovoltaic Systems Applying Perez Model

Photovoltaic(PV) system is one of power generation systems. Solar light in PV system is like the fuel of the car. The quantity of electricity generation, therefore, is fully dependent on the available quantity of solar light on the system of each site. If a utility can predict the solar power generation on a planned site, it may be possible to set up an appropriate PV system there. It may be also possible to objectively evaluate the performances of existing solar systems. Based on the theories of astronomy and meteorology, in this paper, Perez model is simulated to estimate the available quantity of solar lights on the prevailed photovoltaic systems. Consequently the conditions for optimal power generation of each PV system can be analyzed. And the maximum quantity of power generation of each system can be also estimated by applying assumed efficiency of PV system. Perez model is simulated in this paper, and the result is compared with the data of the same model of Meteonorm. Simulated site is Daejeon, Korea with typical meteorological year(TMY) data of 1991~2010.
High Speed Direct Current Control for the 8/10 Bearingless SRM

Novel 8/10 bearingless switched reluctance motor, which can control rotor radial positions with magnetic force, is proposed. The motor has combined characteristics of switched reluctance motor and magnetic bearing. This paper proposes a air-gap control system method of suspending force control in a bearingless switched reluctance motor (BLSRM). The proposed radial force control scheme is independent to the torque winding current. A PI direct current control (DCC) controller and look-up table are used to maintain a constant rotor air-gap. From the analysis and the experimental results, it is shown that the proposed strategy is effective in realizing a naturally decoupled radial force control of BLSRM.
Analysis of Harmonic Frequency for Return Current on the Track Circuit in Electrical Railway System

Electric power used in electrical vehicles flows into the substation through the feedback circuit, track circuit. Due to these power conversion equipments in electrical railroads, return current contains harmonics, and it should not affect other communication lines. In this paper, based on the return currents, we measured harmonics and analyzed an influence in railway equipments due to the harmonics. For analysis, we utilize the measured values of return currents measured in track circuits, and predictive values of those compared to the earth methods between the existing electrified sections. Applying the regulations used for Gyeongbu HSL(High Speed Line), the results of measured harmonics have found to be acceptable.
A Study on the ZnO Anti-reflection Layer of Dye Sensitized Solar Cell using Zinc Nitrate Solution

An anti-reflection layer (AR) is used in the solar cell to improve the amount of the irradiated light, resulting in the improvement of the performance of the solar cell. In this study, the zinc oxide (ZnO) AR is applied to the dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) by using zinc nitrate solution. The conditions such as solution concentration and sintering temperature for fabricating the ZnO AR are changed to optimize the performance of the AR. As a result, the best performance is shown when the zinc nitrate solution with 100mM concentration is used and the sintering temperature is
. And then, the ZnO AR formed with these optimal conditions is applied to the DSC. Consequently, a DSC with a ZnO AR had an increased current density up to 13.86
and an enhanced efficiency of 6.32%.
Assessment of Insulation Deterioration in Stator Windings of High Voltage Motor

To assess the insulation deterioration of stator windings, diagnostic and AC breakdown tests were performed on the eleven high voltage (HV) motors rated at 6kV. After completing the diagnostic tests, the AC overvoltage test was performed by gradually increasing the voltage applied to the stator windings until electrical insulation failure occurred, to obtain the breakdown voltage. Stator winding of motors 1, 3, and 8 failed at above rated voltage at 14 kV, 13.8kV, and 16.4kV, respectively. The breakdown voltage of three motors was higher than expected for good quality windings in 6kV motors. Based on deterioration evaluation criteria, the stator winding insulation of eleven HV motors are confirmed to be in good condition. The turning point of the current,
, in the AC current vs. voltage characteristics occurred between 5kV and 6kV, and the breakdown voltage was low between 13.8kV and 16.4kV. There was a strong correlation between the breakdown voltage and various electrical characteristics in diagnostic tests including Pi2.
A Study on the Dielectric Barrier Discharges Plasmas of Flat Atmospheric Pressure Using an AC Pulse Voltage

Various types of dielectric-barrier-discharge (DBD) devices have been developed for diverse applications for the last decade. In this study, a flat non-thermal DBD micro plasma source under atmospheric pressure has been developed. The flat-panel type plasma is generated by bipolar pulse voltages, and driving gas is air. In this study, the plasma source was investigated with intensified charge coupled device (ICCD) images and Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES). The micro discharges are generated on the crossed electrodes. For theoretical analysis, 2-dimensional fluid simulation was performed. The plasma source can be driven in air, and thus the operation cost is low and the range of application is wide.
Analysis of Power Amplifier Nonlinear Response Based on Practical Circuit Parameters

In this paper, a novel analysis on the nonlinear response of a power amplifier (PA) with the intermodulation distortion (IMD) asymmetry is proposed based on the mutislice behavioral model. The coefficients of the odd-order and even-order polynomial of that model are represented with the PA practical circuit parameters such as intercept points, gain and amplitudes of excitation inputs. We also develop the analytic expressions to distinguish baseband frequency effect from second harmonic effect on the IMD asymmetry. We also validate the derived analytic expressions through measurements.
Warhead Tracking Filter for FMCW Seekers with Anti-Ballistic Missile Capability

In this paper, a practical warhead tracking filter is proposed for developing a FMCW (Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave) seeker with anti-ballistic missile capability. For reliable warhead tracking, the measurement originated from the warhead section of a ballistic target should be separated from other measurements. Futhermore, since the FMCW seeker is based on triangular frequency modulation, the multiple measurements obtained in different chirp periods should be properly associated. As a systematic way to solve the problem, the measurement pairing problem under cluttered environment is reformulated as a data association filtering problem and the PDA (Probabilistic Data Association) scheme is applied. The proposed warhead tracking filter provides better warhead tracking performance compared to the conventional range tracking algorithm and nearest neighbor warhead tracking filter. The effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method are verified using the FMCW seeker simulator.
MPC-based Active Steering Control using Multi-rate Kalman Filter for Autonomous Vehicle Systems with Vision

In this paper, we present model predictive control (MPC) applied to lane keeping system (LKS) based on a vision module. Due to a slow sampling rate of the vision system, the conventional LKS using single rate control may result in uncomfortable steering control rate in a high vehicle speed. By applying MPC using multi-rate Kalman filter to active steering control, the proposed MPC-based active steering control system prevents undesirable saturated steering control command. The effectiveness of the MPC is validated by simulations for the LKS equipped with a camera module having a slow sampling rate on the curved lane with the minimum radius of 250[m] at a vehicle speed of 30[m/s].
Design of Face Recognition algorithm Using PCA＆LDA combined for Data Pre-Processing and Polynomial-based RBF Neural Networks

In this study, the Polynomial-based Radial Basis Function Neural Networks is proposed as an one of the recognition part of overall face recognition system that consists of two parts such as the preprocessing part and recognition part. The design methodology and procedure of the proposed pRBFNNs are presented to obtain the solution to high-dimensional pattern recognition problems. In data preprocessing part, Principal Component Analysis(PCA) which is generally used in face recognition, which is useful to express some classes using reduction, since it is effective to maintain the rate of recognition and to reduce the amount of data at the same time. However, because of there of the whole face image, it can not guarantee the detection rate about the change of viewpoint and whole image. Thus, to compensate for the defects, Linear Discriminant Analysis(LDA) is used to enhance the separation of different classes. In this paper, we combine the PCA&LDA algorithm and design the optimized pRBFNNs for recognition module. The proposed pRBFNNs architecture consists of three functional modules such as the condition part, the conclusion part, and the inference part as fuzzy rules formed in 'If-then' format. In the condition part of fuzzy rules, input space is partitioned with Fuzzy C-Means clustering. In the conclusion part of rules, the connection weight of pRBFNNs is represented as two kinds of polynomials such as constant, and linear. The coefficients of connection weight identified with back-propagation using gradient descent method. The output of the pRBFNNs model is obtained by fuzzy inference method in the inference part of fuzzy rules. The essential design parameters (including learning rate, momentum coefficient and fuzzification coefficient) of the networks are optimized by means of Differential Evolution. The proposed pRBFNNs are applied to face image(ex Yale, AT&T) datasets and then demonstrated from the viewpoint of the output performance and recognition rate.
Modified Low-Votlage CMOS Bandgap Voltage Reference with CTAT Compensation

In this paper, a modified low-votlage CMOS bandgap voltage reference with CTAT compensation is presented. The proposed structure doesn't use PTAT current. The proposed structure is more simple than the existing structure and doesn't use the eighteen BJT. The modified low-votlage CMOS bandgap voltage reference with CTAT compensation has been successfully verified in a standard 0.18um CMOS process. The simulation results have confirmed that, with the minimum supply voltage of 1.25V, the output reference voltage at 549mV has a temperature coefficient of 12
Improvements of Multi-features Extraction for EMG for Estimating Wrist Movements

In this paper, the multi feature extraction algorithm for estimation of wrist movements based on Electromyogram(EMG) is proposed. For the extraction of precise features from the EMG signals, the difference absolute mean value(DAMV), the mean absolute value(MAV), the root mean square(RMS) and the difference absolute standard deviation value(DASDV) to consider amplitude characteristic of EMG signals are used. We figure out a more accurate feature-set by combination of two features out of these, because of multi feature extraction algorithm is more precise than single feature method. Also, for the motion classification based on EMG, the linear discriminant analysis(LDA), the quadratic discriminant analysis(QDA) and k-nearest neighbor(k-NN) are used. We implemented a test targeting twenty adult male to identify the accuracy of EMG pattern classification of wrist movements such as up, down, right, left and rest. As a result of our study, the LDA, QDA and k-NN classification method using feature-set with MAV and DASDV showed respectively 87.59%, 89.06%, 91.75% accuracy.
Optimal Conditions for Mist Sensing and Removal in Automobile

For mist sensing, temperature-humidity sensor is attached on six positions of front glass and rearview mirror in automobile. Bottom-left side of front glass is the best position where mist is sensing. For mist removal, air conditioner is turned on intensity 1, 3 and is set the temperature at 17[
]. And heater is turned on intensity 1, 3 and is set the temperature at 25[
]. The best condition which mist is removed is temperature at 17[
] and intensity 3 of air conditioner mode. At this condition, total average value of humidity output voltage difference is 0.561[V]. Also, air conditioner mode is effective than heater mode for mist sensing and removal.
A Study of Technical Standard Making from Governance Perspective: The Case of Master Spec. in Electrical Construction

For a few recent years, KECA(Korea Electrical Contractor Association) has promoted a project to establish an electrical construction specification called Master Spec. This paper analyses the characteristics of standards-making process of the Master Spec. as an umbrella technical standard in electrical construction industry in Korea. This paper argues that even if the Master Spec. is recognized to be technical standards, the standards-making process involves both technical and social practices when viewed from social construction theory and governance perspective. This aspect of social practices in technical standards making should be well understood because various stakeholders in terms of interests, resources, and motives try to influence the process positively and negatively. KECA in responsible for enactment of the Mater Spec. should be very thoughtful in building consensus first of all among electrical contractors, managing relationship with concerned government officials, and dealing with potential deviant groups as well as in pooling expertises and developing technical knowledge needed for designing technical specification.
Prediction and Analysis of the Energy Consumption Considering the Electric Railway Vehicle's Driving

In this paper, an electrical power simulation program was developed to predict the energy consumption of the electrical railway propulsion system, which considered the actual operating conditions of the electric railway vehicles. The developed program was designed to predictable the energy consumption during a virtual driving in the actual route of the virtual railway vehicles equipped with a propulsion system consisting of power conversion equipments and traction motors. In addition, the accuracy verification of the electrical power simulation program for a propulsion system was performed by using a real power consumption data, which was measured during the driving of the railway vehicles in the Gyeongui Line. In conclusion, the electrical power simulation program for a propulsion system was validated throughout a comparative investigation between the simulated values and the experimental values and the energy consumption characteristics of electric railway vehicles on the existing route or the new route will be possible to predict throughout the virtual simulation considering the driving conditions of the electric railway vehicles.
