This paper studies a busbar design of high power HVDC converter. In order to design a electrical busbar, we need to consider electrical, mechanical and environmental condition. In this papre, we focus on the electrical design in terms of temperaure and currnet. Busbar conductor can be damaged to burn due to the temperature and fault current of busbar. In this paper, Busbar design of Jindo-Jeju HVDC #2 System that will start operate in 2012 is considered.

The microgrid concept assumes a cluster of loads and microsources operating as a single controllable system that provides a new paradigm for defining the operation of distributed generation. This system can be operated as both grid-connected mode and islanded mode. In other words, the microgrid can be operated to meet their special need; such as economics in steady state and local reliability in islanded mode due to the grid fault. This paper presents the AGC (Automatic Generation Control) method for microgrid with EMS (Energy Management System).
Modelling of Secondary Arc Using EMTP-RV

Most of faults occurred in transmission lines are single-phase to ground faults and transient faults. Single-phase auto reclosing is an appropriate scheme to maintain the system stability and restore the system effectively when those faults are occurred. In single-phase auto reclosing scheme, the secondary arc is generated after faulted phase is tripped to eliminate the fault and it is sustained by the capacitive and inductive coupling to the healthy phases. It is important to reclose the faulted phase after fully extinction of secondary arc because of the damage applied to system. Therefore, it is necessary to research on the detection of secondary arc extinction to ensure high success rate of reclosing. In this step, firstly, the accurate modelling of secondary arc should be performed. In this paper, the modelling of secondary arc is performed by using EMTP-RV and the simulation results show that the implemented model is correct and effective.
A study on the Intelligent Voltage Control System

As modern power systems become large and complicated, the automated voltage and reactive power control system is required in most developed countries due to the recent amazing progress of computer net works and information thechnology. So far the voltage control has been depend on human operator in korean power system. This paper presents an intelligent voltage control system based on sensitivity analysis and artificial intelligence technology. Detailed state space modeling technique is discussed and a new performance index is proposed to speed up the searching performance of the expert system. As the searching strategy is very important factor of the speed of expert system the least first search algorithm is applied using this performance index. The intelligent voltage control system is applied to the Jeju power system. As a result, case studies showed a promissing application of the intelligent voltage control system.
Modeling of Battery Energy Storage System at Substation for Load Leveling and Its Economic Evaluation

As development of battery technologies, the installation of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) increased. The BESS can be used for various purposes such like frequency response, load leveling, and fluctuation mitigation of renewable energy generators. In this paper, three state BESS model is proposed. the BESS model considering charge, discharge and keeping efficiency, and life cycle according to depth of discharge (DOD). Then, the benefit and cost of BESS installed at substation for load leveling are summarized. The economic evaluation of BESS is analyzed using net present values (NPV) analysis. In case study, the NPV analysis of NaS battery system is carried out using the proposed BESS model. Because the result of economic evaluation of BESS using nowadays cost data is not positive, the sensitivity analysis of BESS is conducted by changing the capital cost and energy cost.
A Study on the Power Expansion Planning Model Considering the Emission Trading

Korean government has been preparing the introduction of Emission Trading as part of the framework convention on Climate Change as a relief of negative downstream effect over electricity industry. This paper develops a mathematical model amenable to analyzing the economic impact of introduced emission trading system on the national generation expansion planning. The developed model was also employed with a case study to verify its applicability.

In microgrid demonstration site, distributed generations can make bidirectional power flows on the system. If an accident occurs, the fault current from the inverter based distributed generation is small. However, the conventional protection scheme in distribution network is designed to operate at high fault current. This means that the traditional protection of distribution network is no longer applicable and new protection methods must be developed. In this paper, for two cases, algorithms for protection coordination of demonstration site is proposed and verified through PSCAD/EMTDC simulation. In first case, protection devices are assumed to have the abilities of directional relaying and communication. In second case, protection devices do not have those abilities. Proposed protection coordination algorithms detect the fault locations and protect the microgrid fairly well.
The Simulation Method for the Driving Characteristics of Washing Machine using BLDC Motor

This paper studied about the measurement method of the instantaneous dynamic load characteristics. this experimental study, we derived the instantaneous washing load characteristics and inertial moment characteristics according to the amount of laundry and water level. Also, this studied about the dynamic driving characteristics simulation method for the prediction of washing performance based on this load characteristics analysis. For this study, the design parameters of the driving motor are obtained by FEM analysis and the experiment. By using theses motor parameters and load characteristics, the instantaneous driving characteristics simulation is accomplished and it is verified with the experimental result of various driving conditions. The results of this paper would be very useful to the prediction of washing mode operation characteristics, and it can be also utilized to the washer motor control algorithm design for the washing performance improvement.
A Design of ZVS DC-DC Converter applied to Electric Vehicle

The power supply devices applied to the electric vehicle are required for high efficiency and high power density. This paper presents a bidirectional ZVS DC-DC converter. A bidirectional DC-DC converter using the planar transformer has advantages of high efficiency, simple circuit, and lightweight. The operating principle, theoretical analysis, and design guidelines are provided in this paper. The simulation waveforms of the proposed converter are shown to verify its feasibility.

The computer simulation was performed to confirm distribution of current and power density according to inner diameter of graphite mold of SPS(Spark Plasma Sintering). When the inner diameters of a graphite mold are varied

composite is main element of SPS.
The vibration detection and analysis of 3-phase cast resin transformer in less than 50% load conditions

In this paper, we were analyzed the vibration characteristics of the three-phase cast resin transformer using less than 50% of load in the field. Most of the cast resin transformer is less than 50% in the domestic field is used for load conditions. Consisting of a solid insulator cast resin transformer is generating lots of noise and vibration. In addition, because it is affected by Joule `s heat is used in light load conditions. As a results, the transformer vibrations at frequencies below about from 200Hz to 500Hz were detected. Vibration velocity depends on the load variations were found. Load up to approximately 20-30% in most cases the vibration velocity was found at 4,000
or less, 8,000
or more. Vibration frequency at light load conditions were generated at the 120Hz, 240Hz, 360Hz and 480Hz. At the load condition of from 10% to 20%, vibration velocity is higher than another. Most of the vibration velocity were identified at the 1,000
or less. Using the vibration frequency and velocity measurements data, the load on the cast resin transformer analyzed the correlation of the burden. Therefore, this data could be found in the vibration characteristics of the light-load conditions. If the field measurements using the data perform diagnostics on the transformer, it`s expected to be very effective.
A Bandpass Filter with a Desired Phase Shift at The Center Frequency

By cascading RHTL (Right-Handed Transmission Line) and LHTL (Left-Handed Transmission Line), we fabricated a BPF (Band Pass Filter) in which the phase propagation at the pass band center frequency is fixed as we want. We utilized a positive phase propagation of a RHTL which is a form of LPF (Low Pass Filter) and negative phase propagation of LHTL which is a form of HPF (High Pass Filter). Therefore, if RHTL and LHTL are cascaded, a BPF can be constructed and the phase propagation inside the passband is decided by the number of RHTLs and LHTLs. In this paper, we provide a detailed theory related to it and proved the theory with an actual experiment. In the experiment, we fabricated two BPFs with similar passband. One with
phase shift and the other with
phase shift at the center of passband. The result of simulation and actual experiment agrees well. This proves the suggested theory is correct and feasible.
A Carbon Nanotube Field Emitter with a Triode Configuration for a Miniature Mass Spectrometer

This paper presents a carbon nanotube (CNT) triode-structure field emitter as an ion source in a micro time-of-flight mass spectrometer(TOF-MS). In the ion source by field emission, the electrons emitted from cathodes under an electric field accelerated to the anode and ionize gas molecules by impact before arriving the anode. The generated positive ions are to be accelerated to the ion collector. Whereas most of ions are drawn to the cathodes in diode field emitters, a grid in the triode field emitter prevents the ions from being drawn to the cathodes. The triode field emitter is fabricated by micromachining. The cathode is composed of six CNT cylinders. The total size of the fabricated device is
. The anode and the grid current of the fabricated CNT field emitter were measured for various anode and grid voltages. When the anode and the grid voltages are 1000 V and 990 V, respectively, the emission current passing through the ionization region is 8.6
, which is a sufficient emission current for ionization and mass spectrometry.
A Study on Dynamic Modeling of Photovoltaic Power Generator Systems using Probability and Statistics Theories

Modeling of photovoltaic power systems is significant to analytically predict its dynamics in practical applications. This paper presents a novel modeling algorithm of such system by using probability and statistic theories. We first establish a linear model basically composed of Fourier parameter sets for mapping the input/output variable of photovoltaic systems. The proposed model includes solar irradiation and ambient temperature of photovoltaic modules as an input vector and the inverter power output is estimated sequentially. We deal with these measurements as random variables and derive a parameter learning algorithm of the model in terms of statistics. Our learning algorithm requires computation of an expectation and joint expectation against solar irradiation and ambient temperature, which are analytically solved from the integral calculus. For testing the proposed modeling algorithm, we utilize realistic measurement data sets obtained from the Seokwang Solar power plant in Youngcheon, Korea. We demonstrate reliability and superiority of the proposed photovoltaic system model by observing error signals between a practical system output and its estimation.
Decetralized Control of Multiple Satellites Formation Flying Based on the Overlapping Decomposition Technique

This paper presents a decentralized controller design for formation flying of multiple satellites based on the overlapping decomposition technique. Each satellite is assumed to avail only the information of its own and in front of itself, which restricts the structure of a controller gain matrix to an overlapped form. The concerned large-scale system is expanded using the overlapping decomposition technique. Design condition is represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities with small-scale systems in a decentralized form, based on the expanded system. The resulting controller is contracted to the original overlapped form so as to close the original system. A numerical simulation shows the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
Model Predictive Control for Input Constrained Systems with Time-varying Delay

This paper considers a model predictive control problem of discrete-time constrained systems with time-varying delay. For this problem, a delay dependent state feedback control approach is used to achieve asymptotic stabilization of systems with input constraints. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, a new stability condition is obtained via linear matrix inequality formulation to find cost monotonicity condition of the model predictive control algorithm which guarantee the closed loop stability. Finally, the proposed method is applied to a numerical example in order to show the effectiveness of our results.
A Study on the Precise Distance Measurement for Radar Level Transmitter of FMCW Type using Correlation Anaysis Method

In this paper, FMCW type radar level transmitter using correlation analysis method is implemented for precise distance measurement of cargo tank. FMCW type radar level transmitter is the device for distance measurement which calculates the distance by analyzing the beat frequency, that is, the frequency difference between Tx and RX signal from radar antenna using Fast Fourier Transform(FFT), but compensated algorithm like Zoom FFT is needed for the improvement of the frequency precision because the frequency precision of FFT is limited depending on sampling frequency and the number of sampling data. In case of Zoom FFT, the number of sampling data and noisy signal are the main factor influencing the measurement accuracy of Zoom FFT like FFT. Leader Robot Controller Considering Follower with Input Constraint

This paper proposes controller of leader robot considering following robot with input constraints based on leader-following approach. In the previous formation control researches, it was assumed that leader and follower is same object. If leader robot drives as maximum speed that the initial position errors still remain even if following robot have same velocity as a leader. In the situation that velocity of following robot is lower than its leader robot, following robot cannot follow leader robot. Furthermore, the following robot will not be able to made formation with leader robot and keep proximity communication or sensing range. Therefore, multiple mobile robot system using leader-following method should be guaranteed range to get information each other. In this paper, Leader robot is driving to goal position using linear controller and following robot is following trajectory to be made from leader robot. We assume that following robot has input constraints to realize different performance between leader robot and following robot. We design controller of leader robot for desired goal position including the errors between formation and following robot. Thus, we propose leader robot controller considering input constraints of following robot. Finally, we were able to confirm the validity of the proposed method based on simulation results.
Displaying Multiple Maritime Surveillance Radar Data

We display important test information from radar, telemetry in real time for monitoring and control of guided missile flight test. Clearing test area is the most important thing for safety. Thus, we have to constantly monitor and control ships around the test area. Several maritime surveillance radars are deployed around the test area for that purpose. However, multiple points are displayed for the same target when using multiple surveillance radars and this confuses the test personnel during the mission. In this paper, we suggested a method to solve this problem by analyzing error factor of surveillance radar and comparing the correlation of each radar data.
Measurement of Event-related Hemodynamic Responses on Motor Cortex Measured by Near-infrared Spectroscopy

We measure the hemodynamic responses during the 4 kinds of tasks on the motor cortex in the right and left human brain by using near-infrared spectroscopy. The experimental results show that the change of concentration of oxy-hemoglobin is larger than that of deoxy-hemoglobin and the change of concentration of chromophores induced by finger and arm related task show more activations than that of leg.
Performance Evaluation of SHF Sensor for Partial Discharge Signal Detection on DC Rectifier

Online monitoring system is becoming an essential element of railway traction system for utilized to condition based malignance management and various techniques currently employed in railway traction system. Among the various techniques, it is efficient to detect partial discharge signals by electromagnetic wave detection in order to detect insulation fault of rectifier. Although VHF (Very High Frequency), UHF (Ultra High Frequency) sensors were adopted to detect partial discharge of power facilities, due to characteristics of urban railway, excessive noise occurs from 500 MHz to 1.5 GHz on UHF bandwidth. In this paper a new measurement system able to monitoring the conditions of power facilities on DC substation in metro was studied and set up. The system uses UHF sensors to measure the partial discharge of the rectifier due to electric faulting and dielectric breakdown. Comparison and estimation for performance of SHF sensor which had devised to detect partial discharge signal of urban railway rectifier has conducted. In order to estimate performance of SHF sensor, we have compared the sensor with existing UHF sensor on sensitivity upon frequency bandwidth generated by pulse generator, and also we have verified performance of the SHF sensor by detection results of partial discharge signal from urban railway rectifier.
Reducing Noise Source Harmonics of the Next-Generation High-Speed Railway Inverter System Using Hybrid RPWM Technique

In this paper, The Next Generation High Speed Railway inverter system using Hybrid Random Pulse Width Modulation (Hybrid RPWM) is proposed to reduce electromagnetic noise. To verify the validity of study, simulation results of the Next Generation High Speed Railway Inverter system using the proposed method was compared with the system using conventional method. A simulation program is developed using Matlab/Simulink. The results show that the voltage and current harmonics of the Next Generation High Speed Railway Inverter system using Hybrid RPWM significantly decrease and spread into wide band area.
Multi-channel ANC System Modeling for Reducing KTX Interior Noise

We use largely two methods, how to control the noise of the KTX, they are the passive noise control method and the active noise control method. The passive noise control has been used in a variety of ways since the KTX opening day, but lately it has shown the technical limitations by being dropped sharply. So, it is getting important to conduct the research about ANC that is able to reduce the ambient noise when the environmental-factor changes and be installed easily. To reduce a three-dimensional closed-space sound field like a car of a high-speed rail is hard to do using single channel ANC control system. Therefore we have to model the paths of the noise exactly for reducing the noise. And the control speakers and the error mics should be designed for optimal position. In this paper, we designed the transfer functions for modeling the noise paths under the influence of the distance between control speakers & error mics and primary noise speaker in TEST-BED where there is modeled as actual interior of KTX. We have made the modeling and the simulations of interior environment of KTX car by using three frequency bands of 120Hz, 280Hz, 360Hz. After the modeling, we compared the performance of active noise control and also we analyzed what to affect with difference in distance. After comparing of the performance using Pure Tone 120Hz, 280Hz, 360Hz at each modeling and then we simulated ANC for KTX`s interior noise which we measured really and analyzed.
