Load shedding is a last measure to avoid nationwide cascading collapses of power system by removing the pre-determined amount of loads from the main grid. In Korea, SPS(Special Protection System) is prepared to keep the power system stability from the extreme contingency of the critical transmission line losses. Among them, we need to pay attention to 765kV T/L’s because they have great influence on the total system stability. According to the present SPS operating guide, the total loads of 1,500MW should be removed through 2 step under-voltage load shedding(UVLS) scheme in case of 765kV T/L’s contingencies. However, it is not clear to defined how to determine the typical load reduction amounts for each case. This paper proposes a method to estimate appropriate amounts of load shed for 765kV T/L’s contingencies by analyzing the relevant national and international standards.

Demand side management (DSM) program has been frequently used for reducing the system peak load because it gives utilities and independent system operator (ISO) a convenient way to control and change amount of electric usage of end-use customer. Planning and operating methods are needed to efficiently manage a DSM program. This paper presents a planning method for DSM program. A planning method for DSM program should include an electric load forecasting, because this is the most important factor in determining how much to reduce electric load. In this paper, load forecasting with the temperature stochastic modeling and the sensitivity to temperature of the electric load is used for improving load forecasting accuracy. The proposed planning method can also estimate the required day, hour and total capacity of DSM program using Monte-Carlo simulation. The results of case studies are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed planning method.

The Transactions of The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers, volume 64, issue 6, 2015, Pages 857~863
DOI : 10.5370/KIEE.2015.64.6.857
OF cable with excellent reliability and economic efficiency, has been used as the main cable of underground transmission in Korea. However, as XLPE cable is excellent in view points such as reduction of loss, convenience on the construction/operation, and manufacturing technology, it has been replaced as instead of OF cable. Also, when the aging occurs in some sections of OF cable, the section is replaced as XLPE cable without changing of whole cable line. However, there are some differences like electrical constants between both types of cables. Therefore if underground transmission system will be operated as combined connection composited of both cables, it should be proved that overvoltage is stable in steady and transient state. This paper describes the effectiveness of connection operation in combined OF and XLPE cable. For the evaluation of effectiveness, some important analysis such as sheath component voltage, lightning and switching overvoltage, single line-to-ground fault are carried out in steady and transient state. EMTP/ATPDraw is used for modeling and analysis of system.

Recently, one of the main research on the power distribution system is the microgrid. The microgrid is a combination of power sources and loads, which is controllable and has separable connection. The main objective of microgrid is the deployment of the renewable clean energy and the enhancement of load-side reliability. The modern power sources and loads have DC I/O interfaces, which is the major advantage of DC microgrid compared to the conventional AC grid. The components in the microgrid have diverse features, so there is need of proper coordination control. For achieving economic feature, the active power of renewable energy resources is regarded as major control parameter and the whole operation modes of DC microgrid are defined, and the proper operations of each component are described. From the inherent characteristics of DC, there are two control variables: voltage and active power. Through analysis of operation modes, it is possible to determine exact control objectives and optimized voltage & power control strategy in each mode. Because of consideration of whole operation modes, regardless of the number and capacity of components, this coordination control method can be used without modification. This paper defines operation mode of DC microgrid with several DC sources and suggests economic and efficient coordinated control methods. Simulation with PSCAD proves effectiveness.

The Permanent Magnet (PM) machine used at speed control using field-weakening control method. But the field-weakening current, which reduces the field flux for high speeds, causes significant copper and core losses. Therefore, this paper deals with the PM performance evaluations in a pole changing memory motor (PCMM). The PCMM can change the number of magnetic poles and produce two types of torque. When the motor operates with eight poles, it produces a magnetic torque at low rotational speeds. When the motor changes to four poles, it produces both magnetic torque and reluctance torque at high speeds. The paper explain the principle and basic characteristics of the motor by using a finite element method magnetic-field analysis, which consists of a PM magnetized by a pulse d-axis current of the armature winding. The results of our experiment show that the proposed motor reduces core loss by 10% and 55% under no-load and load conditions, and doubles the speed range of the motor.

LLC resonant converter has been widely used because of its high efficiency and high energy density. In this paper, we designed a LLC resonant converter as the main power supply of the Nd:YAG pulse laser. First harmonic approximation (FHA) is used to model the LLC resonant converter. FHA equivalent circuit model and the transfer function of the LLC resonant converter is proposed. Soft start technology is also used to suppress the surge current. The laser output simulation test result is identical with the practical test, the laser energy of every pulse can reach up to 2.5J, and the pulse per second (PPS) can be adjusted from 6 to 18. The power system is verified stable and reliable by both of the simulation and experiment results.

The Transactions of The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers, volume 64, issue 6, 2015, Pages 891~899
DOI : 10.5370/KIEE.2015.64.6.891
This paper presents the robust stability condition of uncertain Takagi-Sugeno(T-S) fuzzy systems with time-varying delay. New augmented Lyapunov-Krasovskii function is constructed to ensure that the system with time-varying delay is globally asymptotically stable. Also, less conservative delay-dependent stability criteria are obtained by employing some integral inequality, reciprocally convex approach and new delay-partitioning method. Finally, two numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, 3D face recognition model is designed by using Polynomial based RBFNN(Radial Basis Function Neural Network) and PNN(Polynomial Neural Network). Also recognition rate is performed by this model. In existing 2D face recognition model, the degradation of recognition rate may occur in external environments such as face features using a brightness of the video. So 3D face recognition is performed by using 3D scanner for improving disadvantage of 2D face recognition. In the preprocessing part, obtained 3D face images for the variation of each pose are changed as front image by using pose compensation. The depth data of face image shape is extracted by using Multiple point signature. And whole area of face depth information is obtained by using the tip of a nose as a reference point. Parameter optimization is carried out with the aid of both ABC(Artificial Bee Colony) and PSO(Particle Swarm Optimization) for effective training and recognition. Experimental data for face recognition is built up by the face images of students and researchers in IC&CI Lab of Suwon University. By using the images of 3D face extracted in IC&CI Lab. the performance of 3D face recognition is evaluated and compared according to two types of models as well as point signature method based on two kinds of depth data information.

The Transactions of The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers, volume 64, issue 6, 2015, Pages 912~921
DOI : 10.5370/KIEE.2015.64.6.912
In this paper, we introduce fuzzy inference-based real-time deterioration diagnosis system with the aid of infrared thermal imaging camera. In the proposed system, the infrared thermal imaging camera monitors diagnostic field in real time and then checks state of deterioration at the same time. Temperature and variation of temperature obtained from the infrared thermal imaging camera variation are used as input variables. In addition to perform more efficient diagnosis, fuzzy inference algorithm is applied to the proposed system, and fuzzy rule is defined by If-then form and is expressed as lookup-table. While triangular membership function is used to estimate fuzzy set of input variables, that of output variable has singleton membership function. At last, state of deterioration in the present is determined based on output obtained through defuzzification. Experimental data acquired from deterioration generator and electric machinery are used in order to evaluate performance of the proposed system. And simulator is realized in order to confirm real-time state of diagnostic field

The Transactions of The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers, volume 64, issue 6, 2015, Pages 922~934
DOI : 10.5370/KIEE.2015.64.6.922
In this paper, The classification between precipitation echo(PRE) and non-precipitation echo(N-PRE) (including ground echo and clear echo) is carried out from weather radar data using neuro-fuzzy algorithm. In order to classify between PRE and N-PRE, Input variables are built up through characteristic analysis of radar data. First, the event classifier as the first classification step is designed to classify precipitation event and non-precipitation event using input variables of RBFNNs such as DZ, DZ of Frequency(DZ_FR), SDZ, SDZ of Frequency(SDZ_FR), VGZ, VGZ of Frequency(VGZ_FR). After the event classification, in the precipitation event including non-precipitation echo, the non-precipitation echo is completely removed by the echo classifier of the second classifier step that is built as Type-2 FCM based RBFNNs. Also, parameters of classification system are acquired for effective performance using PSO(Particle Swarm Optimization). The performance results of the proposed echo classifier are compared with CZ. In the sequel, the proposed model architectures which use event classifier as well as the echo classifier of Interval Type-2 FCM based RBFNN show the superiority of output performance when compared with the conventional echo classifier based on RBFNN.

A Sitting posture is a very important issue for moderns who is mostly sedentary. Also, a wrong sitting posture causes back-pain and spinal disease. Many researchers have been proposed numerous approaches that classifying and monitoring for a sitting posture. In this paper, we proposed a real-time sitting posture monitoring system that was developed to measure pressure distribution in the human body. The proposed system consists of a pressure sensing module (six pressure sensors), data acquisition and processing module, a communication module and a display module for an individual sitting posture monitoring. The developed monitoring system can classify into five sitting postures, such as a correct sitting, sitting on forward inclination, leaning back sitting, sitting with a right leg crossed and a left leg crossed. In addition, when a user deviates from the correct posture, an alarm function is activated. We selected two kinds of chairs, one is rigid material and fixed form, the other one is a soft material and can adjust the height of a chair. In the experiments, we observed appearance changes for subjects in consequence of a comparison between before the correction of posture and after the correction of posture when using the proposed system. The data from twenty four subjects has been classified with a proposed classifier, achieving an average accuracy of 83.85%, 94.56% when the rigid chair and the soft chair, respectively.

In this paper, we studied the environmental requirements for the railway transponder system. The transponder system is comprised of a reader installed beneath the train, a tag installed on the track, and a portable programmer. Among them, the transponder tag should be designed to withstand harsh environments, such as wide operating temperature range, mechanical shock and vibration, etc. To validate stable and reliable service under railway conditions, we carried out environmental test for transponder tag. We then installed the tags on the Honam high-speed test line.

The Transactions of The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers, volume 64, issue 6, 2015, Pages 954~959
DOI : 10.5370/KIEE.2015.64.6.954
In this paper, 110kW high output density, high efficiency Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor which can be applied on tram’s traction system is introduced, along with its output and loss characteristics. The motor model is 2pole 18slot model and its size has been reduced through the high speed for high output density. Especially, structure and retainer sleeve structure is applied to its structure, which is also appropriate for high speed rotation. This kind of structure has eddy current loss problem on the surface of rotor, which must be reduced for high output density design. This study has designed the most optimized additional design parameter in order to improve the output characteristics and efficiency of previous produced 2pole 18 slot 110kW motor model and how the width of airgap affects from the loss perspective is mainly analyzed. Finally, the analysis on the extent of the efficiency improvement effect compared to the previous model has performed through electromagnetic FEM analysis. The influence of airgap flux density distribution has also been thoroughly examined.

Over time, the import of seafood has been increased causing a corresponding increase in recall and recall costs of the fishery on the threshold level. In order to reduce recall costs and to ensure the safety of imported seafood, a moveable lab and its supporting software specialized in seafood inspection were designed. A new fishery quarantine support system software, ‘M-LIMS’ is proposed to strengthen an inspection and quarantine process for the imported seafood at the local level. This new software reads data from an external inspection equipment when it is connected to a USB or RS232 cable inspection equipment on a regular basis to save a report sent to the server after its use. Reading was possible by reading records on a central server. Each time users can check own data through a mobile device.
