Development of Reliability Contribution Function of Power System including Wind Turbine Generators combined with Battery Energy Storage System

This paper presents a study on reliability assessment and new contribution function development of power system including Wind Turbine Generator(WTG) combined with Battery Energy Storage System(BESS). This paper develops and proposes new reliability contribution function of BESS installed at wind farms. The methodology of reliability assessment, using Monte Carlo Simulation(MCS) method to simulate sample state duration, is proposed in detail. Forced Outage Rate(FOR) considered probabilistic approach for conventional generators is modelled in this paper. The penetration of large wind power can make risk to power system adequacy, quality and stability. Although the fluctuation of wind power, BESS installed at wind farms may smooth the wind power fluctuation. Using small size system as similar as Jeju island power system, a case study of reliability evaluation and new proposed contribution function of power system containing WTG combined with BESS is demonstrated in this paper, which would contributes to BESS reliability contribution and assessment tools of actual power system in future.
Method to Estimate Expected Sag Frequency Considering the Operating Condition of Power System

This paper deals with the assessment of voltage sags regarding the variation of system operating conditions. In general, voltage sag assessment is performed by assuming the constant operating condition throughout the year. However, the assumption can lead to assessment errors in case of considerable changes of system operation condition. This paper presents a method to estimate ESF(expected sag frequency) considering the operating conditions according to the changes of power demand throughout the year.
Advanced Procedure and Computing System for Standardization of IEC Terminologies

Through the correspondence works with international electrotechnical vocabulary(IEV) in the smart grid field and power information technology field, we analyzed cases for discussion of terms and definitions in the IEV and then proposed an advanced procedure and computing system for standardization of International Electronical Committee(IEC) terminologies. The standardization procedure consists of processes for existing terminology, new terminology and correspondent terminology which have different structures. An example of the standardization work of correspondent terminology is given. The standardization computing system are based on the process for terminology extraction, terminology verification and terminology management which could provide the Wikipedia type terminology search function. In order to prevent that there exist multiple terminologies in IEV, the database search system is needed to be developed. We proposed the `IEV_Term_Search` program which is the database search system. Terminology standardization of different technical committees(TC) and completion of the IEV to promote cooperation between TC 1 and the TCs must be followed by revision and standardization using the standardization computing system.
Section Voltage Calculation while a Loop Operation by Tie-Switch Close in a Distribution Management System

Generally, an electrical distribution configuration is a radial system with one-way current in a distribution management system (DMS). All feeders in a DMS have tie-switches to make radial system. Sometimes, DMS should change a tie-switch for operation. In that case, the tie-switch has to be closed first; then a switch is opened as another tie-switch in order to prevent blackout for customers. At the moment when the tie-switch is closed, distribution system is operated in a loop state, not radial. Before the loop operation, DMS operator has to check any expected events for stable distribution system operation; and the most important event is a mis-operation of a protection relay. In addition, DMS operator should check voltage profile violation but a calculation method of section voltages had not been used. Thus, this paper proposes a calculation method of section voltages at a loop operation in a DMS. The proposed calculation algorithm is verified by Matlap Simulink.
Development of Daily Operation Program of Battery Energy Storage System for Peak Shaving of High-Speed Railway Substations

This paper proposed a program of an energy storage system(ESS) for peak shaving of high-speed railway substations The peak shaving saves cost of equipment and demand cost of the substation. To reduce the peak load, it is very important to know when the peak load appears. The past data based load profile forecasting method is easy and applicable to customers which have relatively fixed load profiles. And an optimal scheduling method of the ESS is helpful in reducing the electricity tariff and shaving the peak load efficiently. Based on these techniques, MS. NET based peak shaving program is developed. In case study, a specific daily load profile of the local substation was applied and simulated to verify performance of the proposed program.
Study on the High Efficiency Design of IE4 Synchronous Reluctance Motor Replacing IE3 Induction Motor

In accordance with global energy conservation policies such as MEPS(Minimum Energy Performance Standard), electric motor industry is moving to super-high-efficiency machines and research to develop IE4 (International Energy Efficiency Class4) motors has been launched. In this situation, SynRM (Synchronous Reluctance Motor) has been attracting attention in place of induction motor which hardly provides super premium efficiency. As a result, much research on SynRM is being performed at home and abroad. Also, some products have already been appearing in the market. Compared to induction motor, SynRM has better efficiency per unit area and wider operating range. Although the utilization of control system in synchronous motor results in higher prices, we still need to concentrate on developments of SynRM so as to comply with the new policies. This study demonstrated the electromagnetic design methods of super-premium SynRM while maintaining the frame of existing IE3 induction motor for blower. We documented the design procedures for generating high saliency which is the most essential and mechanical stress analysis is also treated. In conclusion, we proved the validity of our design by manufacturing and testing our SynRM models.
Design of LCL-filter for Grid-Connected Three-Phase Inverters Using a Discontinuous PWM Method

This paper proposes a design method of LCL-filter for a grid-connected three-phase inverter using a discontinuous PWM (DPWM) method. When using a DPWM method, many harmonic voltages are generated in the inverter output compared to a continuous PWM (CPWM) method. Therefore, an optimized grid-connected filter design is required for a DPWM method. The proposed design method provides generalized formula to design accurate LCL-filter without trial and error procedures. An inverter side inductance is designed by analyzing the current ripple injected to the grid. The Optimized parameters of LCL-filter can be designed by analyzing the total harmonic distortion (THD) and the ripple attenuation factor of the output current. The proposed LCL filter design method is demonstrated by simulation and experimental results.
Design Analysis and Economic Analysis of high Efficiency 100kW Generator for Hydro Power System

This paper shows the design of the 100 kW IPMSG for small hydraulic power generator. The high-efficient generator, method of the dual layer interior permanent magnet was studied to improve the method of the single layer interior permanent magnet, which is mostly used. Analysis of magnet arrangement and cogging torque was done by FEM. According to structure analysis of dual layer interior permanent magnet, the amount of usage of the permanent magnet was reduced and cogging torque was decreased as well. With these successful results, the high-efficient generator design was accomplished. Based on the results of the structure analysis, the test product was designed and manufactured. And the design values and performance outputs were compared and verified with success. Also, the economic feasibility was conducted based on the electric power generated from the test product installed at the site. By the B/C analysis, in case that only SMP was analyzed, B/C ratio was 1.24 at the discount ratio of 5.5%, which considered to be economically feasible. The study is expected to be used for the application of developing large scale high-efficient interior permanent magnet synchronous generator.
The Study on the SPICE Model Parameter Extraction Method for the Schottky Diode Under DC Forward Bias

The method for extracting the SPICE model parameter of Schottky diode under DC forward bias is proposed. A method for improving the accuracy of the SPICE model parameter at various temperatures is proposed. Three analysis steps according to the magnitude of the current is used in order to extract the parameters effectively. At each analysis step, initial parameters are calculated by using the current-voltage equations and the Levenberg-Marquardt analysis is proceeded. To verify the validity of the proposed method, the SPICE model parameters for the BAT45 and FSV1045 under DC forward bias is extracted. Schottky diode currents obtained from the proposed method shows the average relative error of 6.1% and 9% compared with the measured data for the BAT45 and FSV1045 sample at various temperatures.
Design of Fast Acting Fuse Characteristics Using a Precision Multi-layer Thin Film Plating

General fuse elements of solution for fast acting operation characteristics made using silver or silver alloy, those are not able to dominate cost competition to the advanced global leaders that have not only high technology but competitive price. In this study, the method that compose the fuse elements manufactured solution of fast acting operation characteristics by using precision multi-layer thin film plating and helical cutting process from low-priced copper metal. Furthermore, in order to move rated current line of fuse due to the heat loses, the manufacture construction method of fixed resistor is introduced, and then Ni-P plating layer and Sn plating layer are introduced multiply for controling fine opening time characteristics. So this study can establish the high productive and low-priced production method.
1-Gb/s Readout Amplifier Array for Panoramic Scan LADAR Systems

In this paper, a dual-channel readout amplifier array is realized in a standard
CMOS technology for the applications of panoramic scan LADAR systems. Each channel consists of a PIN photodiode with 0.9 A/W responsivity and a 1.0 Gb/s readout amplifier(ROA). The proposed ROA shares the basic configuration of the previously reported feedforward TIA, except that it exploits a replica input to exclude a low pass filter(LPF), thus reducing chip area and improving integration level, and to efficiently reject common-mode noises. Measured results demonstrate that each channel achieves
transimpedance gain, 829 MHz bandwidth, -22 dBm sensitivity for
, -34 dB crosstalk between adjacent channels, and 45 mW power dissipation from a single 1.8 V supply.
Stability of Time-delayed Linear Systems with New Integral Inequality Proportional to Integration Interval

In this paper, we consider the stability of time-delayed linear systems. To derive an LMI form of result, the integral inequality is essential, and Jensen`s integral inequality was the best in the last two decades until Seuret`s integral inequality is appeared recently. However, these two are proportional to the inverse of integration interval, so another integral inequality is needed to make it in the form of LMI. In this paper, we derive an integral inequality which is proportional to the integration interval which can be easily converted into LMI form without any other inequality. Also, it is shown that Seuret`s integral inequality is a special case of our result. Next, based on this new integral inequality, we derive a stability condition in the form of LMI. Finally, we show, by well-known two examples, that our result is less conservative than the recent results.
Efficient Resource Allocation Strategies Based on Nash Bargaining Solution with Linearized Constraints

The overall performance of multiuser systems significantly depends on how effectively and fairly manage resources shared by them. The efficient resource management strategies are even more important for multimedia users since multimedia data is delay-sensitive and massive. In this paper, we focus on resource allocation based on a game-theoretic approach, referred to as Nash bargaining solution (NBS), to provide a quality of service (QoS) guarantee for each user. While the NBS has been known as a fair and optimal resource management strategy, it is challenging to find the NBS efficiently due to the computationally-intensive task. In order to reduce the computation requirements for NBS, we propose an approach that requires significantly low complexity even when networks consist of a large number of users and a large amount of resources. The proposed approach linearizes utility functions of each user and formulates the problem of finding NBS as a convex optimization, leading to nearly-optimal solution with significantly reduced computation complexity. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
A Comparison of Performance Between MSSQL Server and MongoDB for Telco Subscriber Data Management

Relational Database Management Systems have become de facto database model among most developers and users since the inception of Data Science. From IoT devices, sensors, social media and other sources, data is generated in structured, semi-structured and unstructured formats, in huge volumes, thereby the difficulty of data management greatly increases. Organizations that collect large amounts of data are increasingly turning to non relational databases - NoSQL databases. In this paper, through experiments with real field data, we demonstrate that MongoDB, a document-based NoSQL database, is a better alternative for building a Telco Subscriber Data Management System which hitherto is mainly built with Relational Database Management Systems. We compare the existing system in various phases of data flow with our proposed system powered by MongoDB. We show how various workloads at some phases of the existing system were either completely removed or significantly simplified on the new system. Based on experiment results, using MongoDB for managing telco subscriber data turned out to offer performance better than the existing system built with MSSQL Server.
Area Classification, Identification and Tracking for Multiple Moving Objects with the Similar Colors

This paper presents the area classification, identification, and tracking for multiple moving objects with the similar colors. To do this, first, we use the GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model)-based background modeling method to detect the moving objects. Second, we propose the use of the binary and morphology of image in order to eliminate the shadow and noise in case of detection of the moving object. Third, we recognize ROI(region of interest) of the moving object through labeling method. And, we propose the area classification method to remove the background from the detected moving objects and the novel method for identifying the classified moving area. Also, we propose the method for tracking the identified moving object using Kalman filter. To the end, we propose the effective tracking method when detecting the multiple objects with the similar colors. Finally, we demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of the proposed algorithms through some experiments.
Posture for Distortion Measurement and Analysis Through the Pressure Distribution During a Person Walking

In this paper, a device for analyzing the pressure distribution during walking was produced by using the pressure sensor on the heel. This device was limited to a frequency band by using the 1st low-pass filter. And an algorithm to analyze the value of the quantity to pressure using a analog to digital converter. It is used by using the threshold voltage of pressure sensor, it is suggested the algorithm. The algorithm is detected the peak which is exceeded the threshold voltage. and thus in accordance, it is detected the number of steps. And the calorie consumption were detected by using it. Also it used an MCU and Bluetooth. And by confirming the data at the LCD of the other MCU, it was to reduce the size of the device. According to this algorithm, it has the advantage that there is no restriction on the activity than when using an imaging device and it is inexpensive than other sensors such as an acceleration sensor or a gyro and it is easy to handle.
Interpretation of HRV by the Coupled-Oscillating Cardiac Control System

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) represents beat-to-beat fluctuations of R-R intervals in Electrocardiogram (ECG). On of the clinical applications of HRV is to assess the mental-stress state by evaluating its power spectral density distribution. This study aims at finding new discriminative role of the coupled-oscillating coupling constants, Cs and Cp in the Integral Pulse Frequency Modulation (IPFM) model. Based on comparing with power spectral density of HRV in terms of the relative ratio of the low and high-frequency power component, we can conclude the fact that the coupling parameters Cs and Cp can replace the role of HRV power spectrum interpretation for judging the mental-stress state.
A Study on the Properties and Methods of Electrode System for Tapping of Melts

For safety and economy reasons, hazardous waste including radioactive waste is desired to be converted into stable waste forms with a maximum volume reduction. High temperature melting technology using a plasma torch system can effectively treat even the non-flammable waste as desired. By far, one of the most difficult process for melting the non-flammable waste is a tapping of melts because the melting point of a residual slag in the tapping hole is high and because the viscosity of the melt increases sharply when tapping out. In case of a stationary furnace with a slant tapping port on the side of furnace, a certain amount of melts is left in the tapping hole after tapping out. Because of this, at every end of a melting cycle, the tapping hole needs to be opened by tapping device. The developed tapping device of melts based on both a guide electrode and auxiliary electrode is adequate for the application to discharge of melts except that the consumption of the guide electrode is somewhat faster than expected. Melt is collected in the water cooled vessel.
Calculation Method of Modification Factors for Fault Location Algorithm Using Boosting Current of Operating Electric Train in AT Feeding System

In general, a fault locator is installed in Sub-Station of AT(Auto-transformer) feeding system to estimate the fault location and to protect the Korean AT feeding system. Since the line impedance characteristic is different to normal 3-phase transmission line, we need particular modification factors, which can be calculated using fault location recording data, to estimate the accurate fault location. Up to recently, forcible ground test has been used to calculate the modification factors of the fault locator. However, large amount of current is occurred when the forcible ground test is performed, and this current affects to adjacent equipments. Therefore, we proposed a novel calculation method of modification factors, arbitrary trip test, using boosting current of the operating electric train. Through several field test, we confirmed that modification factors for fault locator can be easily calculated by using proposed method. Moreover, we verified the accuracy and stability of the proposed calculation method.
A Studies for Sequential Mode Change Control Algorithm of the Parallel Dual Converter of Using Thyristor for Supplying the Urban Railway DC Power

This paper is proposed control algorithm for the using thyristor of the parallel dual converter for Urban railway power supply in order to return the regenerative power generated by regenerative braking in urban railway train. Conventional control algorithm of Thyristor dual converter for urban railway power supply has voltage variation within a control range of hysteresis band. The purposed control algorithm of the parallel thyristor dual converter is to maintain a constant voltage without voltage variation in accordance with variable load through the Sequential mode change. And the control algorithm need calculating optimum initial firing angle to consider magnitude of the load current slope. For this purpose, Proposed algorithm for sequential conversion mode of the dual converter was verified by applying for the simulation.
A Study on Characteristic of Power Conversion System in Electric Railway Vehicle According to Contact Loss in Feeding System Considering Characteristic of Rigid Bar

In this paper, Characteristic of power conversion unit of a railway vehicles according to contact loss in feeding system that applied impedance of rigid conductor is analyzed. It applied impedance of rigid bar in modeling of electric railway system. Railway vehicles are performed of modeling based on the performance of the electric railway vehicle. Effects of the contact loss in the power conversion unit were analyzed via main transformer of railway vehicle, the input and output voltage characteristics of the converter through contact loss was generated after linking the vehicle with feeding system.
An Experimental Study on Operation Setting Optimization of Circuit Breaker for Improving Safety on DC Railroad Feeder System

This paper presents an experimental study on the optimal settings for the selected DC fault relay (50F) to improve the operating performance for the high-speed circuit breaker on DC feeding system which ensure safety within rolling stock maintenance depot. In this study, current supplied to overhead contact wire was calculated on 1 ms interval to analyze the correction values of DC fault selective relay for the operation of current supply cutout. Particularly, standards for the accurate detection of accidents between an electric railway vehicle and the electric power facilities are shown by investigating the optimal correction values for detection of fault current, and the results indicated that it takes about 213 ms for the DC fault selective relay(50F) to fully open. In the future, the correction values of DC fault selective relay suggested in this paper will be used as the reference values of protective relay for the safe operation of DC electric railroad system such as urban railway.
