Reduced Feedback Energy Based Hybrid Beamforming for Millimeter Wave MIMO Systems

We consider a limited feedback based hybrid beamforming which reduces the energy of feedback information. In the millimeter wave channel, some rays with large ray gain dominate energy of the channel. Using this point, we propose a channel feedback scheme that employs limited number of channel rays. Also, we provide a hybrid beamforming scheme for the limited feedback system. Based on the simulation results, the proposed scheme shows a comparable data rate performance with conventional schemes, while it remarkably reduces energy of channel feedback.
Distributed Sensor Node Localization Using a Binary Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm

This paper proposes a binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO) algorithm for distributed node localization in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Each unknown node performs localization using the value of the measured distances from three or more neighboring anchors, i.e., nodes that know their location information. The node that is localized during the localization process is then used as another anchor for remaining nodes. The performances of particle swarm optimization (PSO) and BPSO in terms of localization error and computation time are compared by using simulations in Matlab. The simulation results indicate that PSO-based localization is more accurate. In contrast, BPSO algorithm performs faster for finding the location of unknown nodes for distributed localization. In addition, the effects of transmission range and number of anchor nodes on the localization error and computation time are investigated.
A Comparative Study of Aggregation Schemes for Concurrent Transmission over Multiple WLAN Interfaces

To increase wireless capacity, the concurrent use of multiple wireless interfaces on different frequency bands, called aggregation, can be considered. In this paper, we focus on aggregation of multiple Wi-Fi interfaces with packet-level traffic spreading between the interfaces. Two aggregation schemes, link bonding and multipath TCP (MPTCP), are tested and compared in a dualband Wi-Fi radio system with their Linux implementation. Various test conditions such as traffic types, network delay, locations, interface failures and configuration parameters are considered. Experimental results show that aggregation increases throughput performance significantly over the use of a single interface. Link bonding achieves lower throughput than MPTCP due to duplicate TCP acknowledgements (ACKs) resulting from packet reordering and filtering such duplicate ACKs out is considered as a possible solution. However, link bonding is fast responsive to links' status changes such as a link failure. It is shown that different combinations of interface weights for packet spread in link bonding result in different throughput performance, envisioning a spatio-temporal adaptation of the weights. We also develop a mathematical model of power consumption and compare the power efficiency of the schemes applying different power consumption profiles.
Design and Implementation of High Efficiency Transceiver Module for Active Phased Arrays System of IMT-Advanced

The needs of active phased arrays antenna system is getting more increased for IMT-Advanced system efficiency. The active phased array structure consists of lots of small transceivers and radiation elements to increase system efficiency. The minimized module of high efficiency transceiver is key for system implementation. The power amplifier of transmitter decides efficiency of base-station. In this paper, we design and implement minimized module of high efficiency transceiver for IMT-Advanced active phased array system. The temperature compensation circuit of transceiver reduces gain error and the analog pre-distorter of linearizer reduces implemented size. For minimal size and high efficiency, the implented power amplifier consist of GaN MMIC Doherty structure. The size of implemented module is
and output power is 47.65 dBm at LTE band 7. The efficiency of power amplifier is 40.7% efficiency and ACLR compensation of linearizer is above 12dB at operating power level, 37dBm. The noise figure of transceiver is under 1.28 dB and amplitude error and phase error on 6 bit control is 0.38 dB and 2.77 degree respectively.
Multi-Interface Multi-Channel R-HWMP Routing Protocol for End-to-End Bandwidth Reservation in IEEE 802.11s WMNs

Wireless mesh networks have emerged as a key technology in environment that needs wireless multi-hop communication without infrastructure and IEEE 802.11s mesh network standard have currently been established. One of big differences between this standard and the legacy IEEE 802.11 is that MCCA MAC is included to support QoS. MCCA supports bandwidth reservations between neighbors, so it can satisfy the QoS of bandwidth guarantee. However, MCCA has dis-advantages as follow; 1) it can not guarantee end-to-end bandwidth, 2) in multi-interface multi-channel wireless environments, the IEEE 802.11s does not provide a bandwidth reservation protocol and a wireless channel assignment etc. In this paper, we have proposed MIMC R-HWMP, which expands R-HWMP that was proposed in our previous work, to support multi-interface multi-channel. By simulation, we showed end-to-end bandwidth guarantee and the increase in the available bandwidth in multi-interface multi-channel wireless mesh networks.
Effects of the Dielectric Constant and Thickness of a Feed Substrate on the Characteristics of an Aperture Coupled Microstrip Patch Antenna

Effects of the dielectric constant and thickness of a feed substrate on the bandwidth and radiation characteristics of an aperture coupled microstrip patch antenna (ACMPA) are investigated. The optimized return loss bandwidth of an ACMPA increases without the degradation of radiation characteristics as the feed substrate dielectric constant increases for the same feed substrate thickness. The optimized return loss bandwidth of an ACMPA with the dielectric constant of a feed substrate of 10, which is compatible with the high dielectric constant monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) materials, increases without the degradation of radiation characteristics as the thickness of a feed substrate decreases. The ACMPA configuration is suitable for integration with MMICs.
A Sequential Estimation Algorithm for TDOA/FDOA Extraction for VHF Communication Signals

In modern electronic warfare systems, a demand on the more accurate estimation method based on TDOA and FDOA has been increased. TDOA/FDOA localization consists of two-stage procedures; the extraction of information from signals, and the estimation of emitter location. CAF(complex ambiguity function) is known as a basic method in the extraction stage. However, when we extract TDOA and FDOA information from VHF(very high frequency) communication signals, conventional CAF algorithms may not work within a permitted time because of much computation. Therefore, in this paper, an improved sequential estimation algorithm based on CAF is proposed for effective calculation of extracting TDOA and FDOA estimates in terms of computational complexity. The proposed method is compared with the conventional CAF-based algorithms through simulation. In addition, we derive the optimal performance based on the CRLB(Cramer-Lao lower bound) to check the extraction performance of the proposed method.
Performance Analysis of Tri-gate FinFET for Different Fin Shape and Source/Drain Structures

In this paper, the performance variations of tri-gate FinFET are analyzed for different fin shapes and source/drain epitaxy types using a 3D device simulator(Sentaurus). If the fin shape changes from a rectangular shape to a triangular shape, the threshold voltage increases due to a non-uniform potential distribution, the off-current decreases by 72.23%, and the gate capacitance decreases by 16.01%. In order to analyze the device performance change from the structural change of the source/drain epitaxy, we compared the grown on the fin (grown-on-fin) structure and grown after the fin etch (etched-fin) structure. 3-stage ring oscillator was simulated using Sentaurus mixed-mode, and the energy-delay products are derived for the different fin and source/drain shapes. The FinFET device with triangular-shaped fin with etched-fin source/drain type shows the minimum the ring oscillator delay and energy-delay product.
An Available Capacitance Increasing PLL with Two Voltage Controlled Oscillator Gains

An available capacitance increasing phase-locked loop(PLL) with two voltage controlled oscillator gains has been proposed. In this paper, the available capacitance of loop filter is increased by using two positive/negative gains of voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). It results in 1/10 reduction in the size of loop filter capacitor. It has been designed with a 1.8V
CMOS process. The simulation results show that the proposed PLL has the same phase noise characteristic and a locking time of conventional PLL.
A Study on LED Light Dimming using Power Device

An LED lighting which adjusted brightness according to the surround ambient implemented using PWM technology and power devices. To measure the brightness of surround ambient a CdS sensor was used. A control board for the generation of the PWM signal was made using a MCU and duty ratio was controlled according to light intensity of surround ambient of the system. To drive the LED lamps which require high-voltage and high-current power devices were used for switching the DC power supply. Measurement results show that the IGBT is excellent as only lineality but the PowerBJT is more good to consider to efficiency and cost.
Mixed Dual-rail Data Encoding Method Proposal and Verification for Low Power Asynchronous System Design

In this paper, we proposed new dual-rail data encoding that mixed 4-phase handshaking protocol and 2-phase handshaking protocol for asynchronous system design to reduce signal activities and power consumption. The dual-rail data encoding 4-phase handshaking protocol should leat to much signal activities and power consumption by return to space state. Ideally, the dual-rail data encoding 2-phase handshaking protocol should lead to faster circuits and lower power consumption than the dual-rail 4-phase handshaking protocol, but can not designed using standard library. We use a benchmark circuit that contains a multiplier block, an adder block, and latches to evaluate the proposed dual-rail data encoding. The benchmark circuit using the proposed dual-rail data encoding shows an over 35% reduction in power consumption with 4-phase dual-rail data encoding.
Performance-aware Dynamic Thermal Management by Adaptive Vertical Throttling in 3D Network-on-Chip

Recent TSV based 3D Integrated Circuit (IC) technology needs more powerful thermal management techniques. However, because cooling cost and form factor are restricted, thermal management are emphasis on software based techniques. But in case of throttling thermal management which one of the most candidate technique, increasing bus occupation induce total performance decrease. To solve communication bottleneck issue in TSV based 3D SoC, we proposed adaptive throttling technique Experimental results show that the proposed method can improve throughput by about 72% compare with minimal path routing.
Development of Wireless Power Transceiver with Bi-directional DC-DC Converter

A bi-directional DC-DC converter has been developed for a wireless power transceiver which enables a device to receive and transmit power wireless. Generally, the wireless power transceiver requires two DC-DC covnerter and two external inductors. However, the proposed wireless power transceiver requires only one DC-DC converter and one inductor, allowing small form-factor. The bi-directional DC-DC converter implemented in
BCDMOS process operates as a buck converter at the wireless power receiving mode and the power efficiency is 91% when the ouput power is 3W. In the wireless power transmitter mode, the DC-DC converter operates as a boost converter. With the bi-directional DC-DC converter and the proposed efficiency maximizing techniques, the power efficiency of wireless power transceiver is 81.7% in receiver mode and 76.5% in transmitter mode.
A Voltage Binning Technique Considering LVCC Margin Characteristics of Different Process Corners to Improve Power Consumption

Due to remarkable market growth of smart devices, higher performance and more functionalities are required for a core system-on-chip (SoC), and thus the power demand is rapidly increasing. However, aggressive shrink of CMOS transistor have brought severe process variations thereby adversely affected the performance and power consumption under strict power constraint. Voltage binning (VB) scheme is one of the effective post silicon tuning techniques, which can reduce parametric yield loss due to process variations by adjusting supply voltage. In this paper, an optimal supply voltage tuning based voltage binning technique is proposed to reduce average power without an additional yield loss. Considering the different LVCC margins of process corners along with speed and leakage characteristics, the proposed method can optimize the deviation of voltage margin and thus save power consumption. When applying on a 30nm mobile SoC product, the experimental results showed that the proposed technique reduced average power consumption up to 6.8% compared to traditional voltage binning under the same conditions.

A Study on Eigen-properties of a 3-Dim. Resonant Cavity by Krylov-Schur Iteration Method

Krylov-Schur iteration method has been applied to the 3-Dim. resonant cavity of a cylindrical form. The vector Helmholtz equation has been analysed for the resonant field strength in homogeneous media by FEM. An eigen-equation has been constructed from element equations basing on tangential edges of the tetrahedra element. This equation made up of two square matrices associated with the curl-curl form of the Helmholtz operator. By performing Krylov-Schur iteration loops on them, Eigen-values and their modes have been determined from the diagonal components of the Schur matrices and its transforming matrices. Eigen-pairs as a result have been revealed visually in the schematic representations. The spectra have been compared with each other to identify the effect of boundary conditions.
Analysis of Big Data Visualization Technology Based on Patent Analysis

Modern data computing developments have led to big improvements in graphic capabilities and there are many new possibilities for data displays. The visualization has proven effective for not only presenting essential information in vast amounts of data but also driving complex analyses. Big-data analytics and discovery present new research opportunities to the computer graphics and visualization community. In this paper, we discuss the patent analysis of big data visualization technology development in major countries. Especially, we analyzed 160 patent applications and registered patents in four countries on November 2012. According to the result of analysis provided by this paper, the text clustering analysis and 2D visualization are important and urgent development is needed to be oriented. In particular, due to the increase of use of smart devices and social networks in domestic, the development of three-dimensional visualization for Big Data can be seen very urgent.
An Artificial Visual Attention Model based on Opponent Process Theory for Salient Region Segmentation

We propose an novel artificial visual attention model that is capable of automatic detection and segmentation of saliency region on natural images in this paper. The proposed model is based on human visual perceptions in biological vision and contains there are main contributions. Firstly, we propose a novel framework of artificial visual attention model based on the opponent process theory using intensity and color features, and an entropy filter is designed to perceive salient regions considering the amount of information from intensity and color feature channels. The entropy filter is able to detect and segment salient regions in high segmentation accuracy and precision. Lastly, we also propose an adaptive combination method to generate a final saliency map. This method estimates scores about intensity and color conspicuous maps from each perception model and combines the conspicuous maps with weight derived from scores. In evaluation of saliency map by ROC analysis, the AUC of proposed model as 0.9256 approximately improved 15% whereas the AUC of previous state-of-the-art models as 0.7824. And in evaluation of salient region segmentation, the F-beta of proposed model as 0.7325 approximately improved 22% whereas the F-beta of previous state-of-the-art models.
DOF Correction of Heterogeneous Stereoscopic Cameras

In this paper, we propose a DOF (Depth of Field) correction technique by determining the values of the internal parameters of a 3-D camera which consists of stereoscopic cameras of different optical properties. If there is any difference in the size or the depth range of focused objects in the left and right stereoscopic images, it could cause visual fatigue to human viewers. The object size of in the stereoscopic image is corrected by the LUT of zoom lenses, and the forward and backward DOF are corrected by the object distance. Then the F-numbers are determined to adjust the optical properties of the camera for DOF correction. By applying the proposed technique to a main-sub type 3-D camera using a GUI-based DOF simulator, the DOF of the camera is automatically corrected.
Perceptual Quality Assessment on Display based on Analytic Network Process

Display quality assessment has been a long standing issue due to the diversity of display devices and the rapid growth of display technology. The conventional display quality assessment methods are mostly those methods which evaluate qualities of a display by measuring physical quantities, but the results from the methods are not equal to the perceived results which are acquired with subjective experiments. Thus, we need to solve the above contrariety as well as establish the quantitative correlation between physical and perceived results. This paper proposes the systematic method of evaluating relative perceived qualities among various display devices and quantifies these relative perceived qualities. The proposed method is based on Analytic Network Process(ANP), which is one of the most popular decision making methods in the business administration field. We also adopted three evaluation criteria, which consist of color, shape and depth, in order to reflect the human visual system and chose eight sub-criteria related to display characteristics via question investigation. We carried out a subjective experiment and the proposed method which evaluated perceived qualities of two display devices(TFT-LCD, OLED) in order to prove the similarity between their results. As a result, it is proved that the order relationship between perceived qualities was the same as the order of results got through the subjective experiment.
DCT-based Digital Dropout Detection using SVM

The video-based system of the broadcasters and the video-related institutions have shifted from analogical to digital in worldwide. This migration process can generate a defect, digital dropout, in the quality of the contents. Moreover, there are limited researches focused on these kind of defects and those related have limitations. For that reason, we are proposing a new method for feature extraction emphasizing in the peculiar block pattern of digital dropout based on discrete cosine transform (DCT). For classification of error block, we utilize support vector machine (SVM) which can manage feature vectors efficiently. Further, the proposed method overcome the limitation of the previous one using continuity of frame by frame. It is using only the information of a single frame and works better even in the presence of fast moving objects, without the necessity of specific model or parameter estimation. Therefore, this approach is capable of detecting digital dropout only with minimal complexity.
Landmine Detection System using a Target-adaptive Window Selection Method

The performance of a landmine detection system depends on consistent extractions of the features of landmines. Since landmines have diverse sizes, it is critical to select an appropriate window size to represent the landmine region consistently. Conventional detection systems are incapable of extracting consistent landmine features because they employ fixed window sizes. This paper proposes a window size selection method according to the size of a landmine. The proposed method selects an appropriate window size based on the type of a landmine estimated from the response signal of the system. Data on various types of soils and landmines were generated from a simulation program to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The results verified that the proposed method, which employs an adaptive window size, yields a better landmine detection rate than the conventional methods, which employ fixed window sizes.
Analysis of Features and Discriminability of Transient Signals for a Shallow Water Ambient Noise Environment

In this paper, we analyze the discriminability of features for the classification of transient signals with an ambient noise in a shallow water. For the classification of the transient signals, robust features for the variance of a noise are required due to a low SNR under a marine environment. In the modelling the ambient noise in shallow water, theoretical noise model, Wenz's observation data from the shallow water, and Yule-walker filter are used. Discrimination of each feature of the transient signals with an additive ambient noise is analyzed by utilizing a Fisher score. As the analysis of a classification accuracy about the transient signals of 24 classes using the selected features with a high discriminability, the features selected in the environment without a noise relatively have a good classification accuracy. From the analyzed results, we finally select a total 16 features out of 28 features. The recognition using the selected features results in the classification accuracy of 92% in SNR 20dB using Multi-class SVM.

The acoustic cleaning system is widely used to remove foreign materials in factories, such as thermal power plants and incinerators. However, the acoustic cleaning systems tend to be clogged by foreign materials. In this paper, we develop a wireless sensor network for the sound wave detection in order to monitor proper operations in the acoustic cleaning systems. We observe that the developed wireless sensor network for the wave detection shows a stable operation in various industrial environments of wide temperature ranges. We also develop a data gathering device, which displays the current status of the sound generator and several values detected from the wireless sensor.
A Method of Inspecting ITO Pattern and Node Using Measured Data of Each Node's Mutual Capacitance ITO Sensor

In this paper, we propose the possible way of accurate analysis and examination of ITO sensor to discriminate whether mutual capacitance ITO sensor is defective by using mutual capacitance of data in each node which consists of electrodes inside of ITO sensor. We have analyzed the structure characteristic of mutual capacitance ITO sensor which is used as an input device for not only small size electronics like mobile phone and tablets but also big size electronics and designed the circuit to inspect ITO sensor using touch screen panel IC. Set a variable related with mutual capacitance of charge and discharge and Implement to find and analyze accurate position when defect is made through the data from each node of ITO sensor. First, we can set a yield effective range through the first experiment data of mutual capacitance ITO sensor and by using the data of each node of ITO sensor which is the result from the second experiment, we can verify accuracy and effectiveness of effective range from the first experiment as a sample which is used in this experiment.
Trunk Stabilization Measurements Using the Nintendo Wii

The CTSIB (Clinical Test of Sensory Integration on Balance) using high sensitive pressure sensors is normally used to assess the sense of balance in hospital. It takes an objective measurement of the amount of sway that occurs in the body trunk by observing the change in the center of pressure (CoP) on the foot at the upright posture. In this paper, we would like to propose method to easily measure trunk sway in home. Although the Wii balance board(WBB) is used for games, it can measures the center of pressure, which is highly correlated. The Wii remote controller(WRC) is inexpensive compared to the WBB, but it has problems with estimation of trunk sway because it can't measure pressure directly like WBB. We collected data from 10 normal subjects (5 males, 5 females) from two devices in order to compare the CoP from WBB and the center of mass (CoM) from WRC. The results of WRC and WBB was similar when the data were analyzed by the convex hull and ellipse area.

The Viterbi algorithm(VA) is used to estimate the state transition of discrete-time finite state machine(FSM) that is in an uncorrelated noisy environment. This paper modified the Hamming Network to estimate the state transitions in the finite state machines, and proposed state-parallel and block-parallel Viterbi decoder. The modified Hamming Network(mHN) can perform the decoding of convolutional codes correctly as conventional Viterbi decoder. Furthermore, the complexities of the proposed Viterbi decoder are reduced approximately 10% less than conventional Viterbi decoder, and the processing times are improved approximately 40% more than conventional Viterbi decoder.
