Design of Signal Measurement System for In-Building Propagation Characteristics based on Signature Sequence

Recently, the collection of the sensor data and its analysis become important as the smart buildings equipped with the various sensors appear as a usual scene. The interconnection through the wire cable among the sensors is indispensible because of the information collections such as the temperature, the humidity, and the luminance in the rooms and the hallways for the effective management of the in-building energies. However, these interconnections through the cabling will be very costly, time-consuming, and a difficult task since they will cause some damages to the buildings. Therefore, the interconnections through the unwired connections are required in terms of the deployment effectiveness such as time and cost In this paper, the design and the operation appropriateness are confirmed through the simulation of the signal measurement system for in-building propagation characteristics based on signature sequence.

Joint Demodulation and Decoding System for FTN

In this paper, we propose an efficient joint demodulation and decoding scheme for FTN (Faster than Nyquist) systems. Several previous works have demonstrated that ISI (Inter Symbol Interference) cancellation schemes based on BCJR (Bahl-Cocke-Jelinek-Raviv) algorithm are suitable for FTN systems. Unfortunately, required complexity of the previous ISI cancellation schemes is very high, especially when a multi-level modulation scheme is employed. In this paper, we propose a joint demodulation and decoding scheme for FTN systems with an iteratively decodable channel coding scheme and a multi-level modulation. Compared with the previously proposed schemes, the proposed scheme not only offers reliable performance but also requires relatively low complexity. Also, the proposed scheme can be easily applied to the FTN system with a multi-level modulation with a minor modification.
A Novel Differential Equal Gain Transmission Technique using M-PSK Constellations in MIMO System

A differential codebook using M-ary phase shift keying (M-PSK) constellation as its codeword elements, is proposed for Long term evolution (LTE), LTE-Advanced (LTE-A), and/or WiMAX systems. Due to the temporal correlation of the adjacent channel, the consecutive precoding matrices are likely to be similar. This approach quantize only the differential information of the channel instead of the whole channel subspace, which virtually increase the codebook size to realize more accurate quantization of the channel. Especially, the proposed codebook has the same properties of LTE release-8 codebook that is, constant modulus, complexity reduction, and nested property. The mobile station can be designed by using a less expensive non-linear amplifier utilizing the constant modulus property. Computer simulations show that the capacity of the proposed codebook performs better than LTE release-8 codebook with the same amount of feedback information.
Mutual-Backup Architecture of SIP-Servers in Wireless Backbone based Networks

The voice communications with wireless backbone based networks are evolving into a packet switching VoIP systems. In those networks, a call processing scheme is required for management of subscribers and connection between them. A VoIP service scheme for those systems requires reliable subscriber management and connection establishment schemes, but the conventional call processing schemes based on the centralized server has lack of reliability. Thus, the mutual-backup architecture of SIP-servers is required to ensure efficient subscriber management and reliable VoIP call processing capability, and the synchronization and call processing schemes should be changed as the architecture is changed. In this paper, a mutual-backup architecture of SIP-servers is proposed for wireless backbone based networks. A message format for synchronization and information exchange between SIP servers is also proposed in the paper. This paper also proposes a FSM scheme for the fast call processing in unreliable networks to detect multiple servers at a time. The performance analysis results show that the mutual backup server architecture increases the call processing success rates than conventional centralized server architecture. Also, the FSM scheme provides the smaller call processing times than conventional SIP, and the time is not increased although the number of SIP servers in the networks is increased.
Enhanced Peer-to-Peer Streaming Protocol to Provide The Selective VoD Service in Live Streaming Session

We propose a method to provide a selective VoD service during live streaming sessions. In the proposed method, each peer joined the live streaming session receives video stream packets with P2P manner and stores the packets to provide a VoD service. To mitigate the overhead of each peer node to store the video stream packets, the proposed scheme categorizes peers into three different groups based on their link types. To increase data gathering speed and reduce the network load, we also proposes the P2P transmission scheme within the same AP network for the peers with Wi-Fi link. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we implement computer simulator using NS-3. Simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the overhead about 66% and increases the P2P data gathering speed about 50% compared to the conventional schemes.
The Bandwidth Enhancement of an Aperture Coupled Microstrip Patch Antenna Using Variation of an Aperture Width

The bandwidth enhancement of an aperture coupled microstrip patch antenna(ACMPA) with a high permittivity feed substrate suitable for the integration with MMIC is investigated using variation of an aperture width. As an aperture width increases, the 10 dB return loss bandwidth increases due to the increase of the mutual resonance region between a patch resonance and an aperture resonance. The bandwidth of an ACMPA with extended aperture width is increased up to 35.3 % from 20.8 % of the ACMPA with an aperture of a typical aspect ratio 10:1. The degradation of the radiation characteristics of an ACMPA due to the increase of an aperture width is very small.
Median Filtering Detection using Latent Growth Modeling

In recent times, the median filtering (MF) detector as a forensic tool for the recovery of forgery images' processing history has concerned broad interest. For the classification of MF image, MF detector should be designed with smaller feature set and higher detection ratio. This paper presents a novel method for the detection of MF in altered images. It is transformed from BMP to several kinds of MF image by the median window size. The difference distribution values are computed according to the window sizes and then the values construct the feature set same as the MF window size. For the MF detector, the feature set transformed to the model specification which is computed using latent growth modeling (LGM). Through experiments, the test image is classified by the discriminant into two classes: the true positive (TP) and the false negative (FN). It confirms that the proposed algorithm is to be outstanding performance when the minimum distance average is 0.119 in the confusion of TP and FN for the effectivity of classification.
VDI Real-Time Monitoring System for KVM-Based Virtual Machine Resource Usage Analysis

Recently, due to the development of next-generation computing devices and high-performance network, VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) is receiving a great deal of attention from IT market as an essential part of cloud computing. VDI enables to host multiple, individual virtual machines that are provisioned from servers located at the data center by using hypervisor. One of the critical issues related to VDI is to reduce the performance difference between virtual machines and physical ones. In this paper, we present a real-time VM monitoring system, called SETMOV, that is able to collect the real-time resource usage information. We also present the performance results using iozone to verify SETMOV.
Delegation-based Authentication Protocol for Cognitive Radio Network

Cognitive radio networks (CRNs) offer the promise of intelligent radios that can learn from and adapt to their environment. CRN permits unlicensed users to utilize the idle spectrum as long as it does not introduce interference to the primary users due to the Federal Communications Commission's recent regulatory policies. Thereby, the security aspects in CRNs should be different with the other networks. The purpose of this paper is to devise a new delegation-based authentication protocol (NDAP) by extracting out the security aspects for unlicensed user authentication over CRNs from Tsai et al's delegation-based authentication protocol (TDAP). First of all, we will provide security analyses on the TDAP and set design goal for unlicensed user authentication. Then, we will propose a NDAP as a remedy mechanism for the TDAP and a new protocol for CRNs. The NDAP could be used as a security building block for the CRNs and various convergence applications.
Statistical Model of 3D Positions in Tracking Fast Objects Using IR Stereo Camera

This paper proposes a statistical model of 3-D positions when tracking moving targets using the uncooled infrared (IR) stereo camera system. The proposed model is derived from two errors. One is the position error which is caused by the sampling pixels in the digital image. The other is the timing jitter which results from the irregular capture-timing in the infrared cameras. The capture-timing in the IR camera is measured using the jitter meter designed in this paper, and the observed jitters are statistically modeled as Gaussian distribution. This paper derives an integrated probability distribution by combining jitter error with pixel position error. The combined error is modeled as the convolution of two error distributions. To verify the proposed statistical position error model, this paper has some experiments in tracking moving objects with IR stereo camera. The 3-D positions of object are accurately measured by the trajectory scanner, and 3-D positions are also estimated by stereo matching from IR stereo camera system. According to the experiments, the positions of moving object are estimated within the statistically reliable range which is derived by convolution of two probability models of pixel position error and timing jitter respectively. It is expected that the proposed statistical model can be applied to estimate the uncertain 3-D positions of moving objects in the diverse fields.
Adaptive Matching Method of Rigid and Deformable Object Image using Statistical Analysis of Matching-pairs

In this paper, adaptive matching method using the same features for rigid and deformable object images is proposed. Firstly, we determine whether the two images are matched or not using the geometric verification and generate the matching information. Decision boundary which separates deformable matching-pair from non-matching pair is obtained through statistical analysis of matching information. The experimental result shows that the proposed method lowers the computational complexity and increases the matching accuracy compared to the existing method.
Ghost-free High Dynamic Range Imaging Based on Brightness Bitmap and Hue-angle Constancy

HDR(High dynamic range) imaging is a technique to represent a dynamic range of real world. Exposure fusion is a method to obtain a pseudo-HDR image and it directly fuses multi-exposure images instead of generating the true-HDR image. However, it results ghost artifacts while fusing the multi-exposure images with moving objects. To solve this drawback, temporal consistency assessment is proposed to remove moving objects. Firstly, multi-level threshold bitmap and brightness bitmap are proposed. In addition, hue-angle constancy map between multi-exposure images is proposed for compensating a bitmap. Then, two bitmaps are combined as a temporal weight map. Spatial domain image quality assessment is used to generate a spatial weight map. Finally, two weight maps are applied at each multi-exposure image and combined to get the pseudo-HDR image. In experiments, the proposed method reduces ghost artifacts more than previous methods. The quantitative ghost-free evaluation of the proposed method is also less than others.
Estimation and Analysis of Two Moving Platform Passive Emitter Location Using T/FDOA and DOA

Passive emitter localization is preferred to use a small number of receivers as possible for the efficiency of strategic management in the field of modern electronic warfare support. Accurate emitter localization can be expected when utilizing continuous measurable parameters and a appropriate combination of theirs. For this reason, we compare CRLB (Cramer-Rao lower bound) of two moving platform with various measurable parameters to choose a appropriate combination of parameters for a better localization performance. And we propose the passive emitter localization method based on Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm with combined TDOA/FDOA and DOA to achieve better accuracy of emitter localization which is located on the ground and stationary. In addition, we present a method for determining the initial emitter position for LM algorithm's input to avoid the divergence of estimation and local minimum.
Modified Driving Method for Reducing Address Time During Subfield Time in AC PDP

The address discharge time lags are investigated in each subfield time in AC plasma display panel and a modified driving waveform is proposed to reduce the address discharge time lag by applying different additional scan voltage under no misfiring discharge production. The weak plasma discharge in AC PDP is generated by applying high positive-going ramp waveform to the scan electrode during the first reset period and that induce the production of the priming particle and wall charge. Because the wall charge becomes the wall voltage in a cell, the wall plus external address voltage produce the address discharge. However, as the wall charge in a cell is gradually disappeared as time passed, the address discharge time in the subfield time for 1 TV frame is lagged. In the first subfield time, the address discharge is faster produced than the other subfield time because the wall charge are much remained by the high positive-going ramp voltage during the reset period in the first subfield time. Meanwhile, from the second to last subfield, the address discharge production time is gradually delayed due to the dissipation of the wall charge in a cell. In this study, the address discharge time lags are measured in each subfield time and the total address discharge time lags are shortened by applying the different additional scan voltage during the address period in each the subfield time.
Design for a Medical Devices Safety Information Reporting System for the Hospitals

In this study, medical devices safety information reporting system was designed to manage medical devices for the efficient management of in-hospital adverse events. The current management of medical device adverse event reporting regulations and the legal status of the system and procedures for identifying the system were reviewed. MSF/CD(Microsoft Solution Framework/Component Design) was applied to the system design. Through this study, we can understand medical devices management including the notice provisions of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for medical devices safety information reporting. We also expect this study will help to improve patient safety and the effective management of medical equipment, and contribute to activating medical devices safety information reporting.
Effects of Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields Emitted by WCDMA Mobile Phones on Pacemakers and ICDs

Reports show that global system for mobile communication (GSM) mobile phones, or two-generation (2G) mobile phones, could affect functions of pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs). In this study, we evaluated the effects of radio frequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMFs) emitted by wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) mobile phones, which were third-generation (3G) mobile phones, on pacemakers and ICDs. Five pacemakers and three ICDs were subjected to in-vitro test using a ECG simulator. We used a WCDMA module (average power : 0.25 W, frequency band : 1950 MHz) instead of a real WCDMA mobile phone. To assess the effects of the WCDMA module on pacemakers and ICDs, each implantable device was placed in close proximity (within 3 mm) to the WCDMA module for 5 min. As a result, no effects were observed on the five pacemakers and three ICDs for the RF-EMFs emitted by the WCDMA module. Because WCDMA mobile phones have the higher frequency band (1800-2200 MHz) and lower power output (0.01-0.25 W) than GSM moboile phone, the RF-EMFs emitted by WCDMA mobile phones do not affect patients with pacemaker or ICD.
Implementation and Verification Analysis of Micro-EMS for Controlling EES

The energy storage system is actively used as the widespread of smart grid. In the case of large scale EES, it can be efficiently controlled linked with BEMS or BAS. But, in the case of EES installed in a small sized household, it needs the help of the remote control system because it lacks the expert for controlling and operating of EES. In addition, in the case when the solar energy generation and EES are installed at the same time, a small sized EMS which can be efficiently controlled depending on the solar energy generation or electric power load is needed. In this paper, the EMS which can efficiently control the solar power generation as well as EES installed in a small sized household is implemented and its usefulness is verified through some experimental studies.
Footstep Detection and Classification Algorithms based Seismic Sensor

In this paper, we propose an adaptive detection algorithm of footstep and a classification algorithm for activities of the detected footstep. The proposed algorithm can detect and classify whole movement as well as individual and irregular activities, since it does not use continuous footstep signals which are used by most previous research. For classifying movement, we use feature vectors obtained from frequency spectrum from FFT, CWT, AR model and image of AR spectrogram. With SVM classifier, we obtain classification accuracy of single footstep activities over 90% when feature vectors using AR spectrogram image are used.
Development of 2.4GHz ISM Band Wireless Communication Platform based on Embedded Linux

In this paper, we develop a 2.4GHz ISM band wireless communication platform prototype based on embedded linux which support can be u-Hospital service. The developed system is available connecting between ARM920T processor board and FPGA board and linking IEEE 802.11b PHY board, AD/DA(10Bit) and RF(2.4GHz) board for wireless access. It is also can be utilized for the embedded system design with IEEE 802.11b/g Access Point(Option: IEEE 802.11a/b/g) test due to the Embedded Linux. Also, the developed system is possible to test and verify the radio access technology, Modem(OFDM etc) and IP(Intellectual Property) circuit. And make the most use of the system, we search for a expansion to that home and mobile healthcare, wellness service application.
