Synchronization Scheme for CCSK based LPD Systems

In this paper, we propose an initial timing and frequency synchronization scheme for low probability detection (LPD) systems with cyclic code shift keying (CCSK). The performance of the LPD system with CCSK highly depend on initial timing and frequency offset. On the other hand, the operating SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) of LPD systems is usually very low. Hence, to guarantee a reliable performance of the LPD system, it is crucial to develop suitable initial synchronization algorithms. In this paper, we propose an initial timing and frequency synchronization scheme suitable for CCSK based LPD system using a repeated preamble pattern.
Design and Data Analysis of Signal Measurement System for In-Building Propagation Characteristics based on Variable Short Signature Sequences

Recently, the collection of the sensor data and its analysis become important as the smart buildings equipped with the various sensors appear as a usual scene. The interconnection through the wire cable among the sensors is indispensible because of the information collections such as the temperature, the humidity, and the luminance in the rooms and the hallways for the effective management of the in-building energies. However, these interconnections through the cabling will be very costly, time-consuming, and a difficult task since they will cause some damages to the buildings. Therefore, the interconnections through the unwired connections are required in terms of the deployment effectiveness such as time and cost In this paper, the design and the short sequence operation appropriateness are confirmed through the simulation of the signal measurement system for in-building propagation characteristics based on short signature sequence and the analysis of the system characteristics based on the false alarm probability is performed thereafter.
Global Wireless LAN Roaming Status in Korea and Its Development Methods

Due to the appearance of various mobile terminals like smartphone, smartpad, and smartwatch and tremendous development of WiFi technology, data utilization rate on WiFi network is significantly increasing. As a result, users are wanting to use WiFi network using only a simple identification at a visited place as if they are at their home institute. In this paper, we review the domestic status of eduroam service which supports global extension of wireless network access environment and present the future development perspective of the service in Korea. Besides, we shed light on the current status of WiFi sharing service between domestic universities and propose some methods to facilitate the join of domestic universities in eduroam service.
Determination and Performance Evaluation of a Codebook for MIMO Systems Utilizing Statistical Properties of The Spatial Channel Model

For long-term evolution (LTE) MIMO transmission, codebooks are used to utilize the estimated channel information under the limited feedeback environment, and related study has been actively performed. Existing codebooks include codevectos constructed based on vector quantization (VQ) and discrete Fourier transform (DFT), and the LTE standard specifies codebooks modified from these examples to support up to 8 transmit antennas. As the number of antennas increases and as the spatial channel model is used as a standard environment to evaluate the LTE transmission performance, new beamforming methods as well as codebook designs are needed. In this paper, we implement the 3-dimensional spatial channel model (3D-SCM) to analyze the key statistical characteristics of the generated channel, and present efficient ways of determining corresponding codebooks. In particular, we propose a nonuniform-phase DFT-based codebook to improve the existing uniform-phase DFT-based codebook, and evaluate its performance under the given SCM transmission environment. There exists a strong tendancy in statistical distributions of the phase difference between adjacent antenna elements for the SCM, which can be appropriately exploited in codebook design to produce a performance gain over the existing design.
Stability Enhancement of IZOthin Film Transistor Using SU-8 Passivation Layer

In this work, SU-8 passivated IZO thin-film transistors(TFTs) made by solution-processes was investigated for enhancing stability of indium zinc oxide(IZO) TFT. A very viscous negative photoresist SU-8, which has high mechanical and chemical stability, was deposited by spin coating and patterned on top of TFT by photo lithography. To investigate the enhanced electrical performances by using SU-8 passivation layer, the TFT devices were analyzed by X-ray phtoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR). The TFTs with SU-8 passivation layer show good electrical characterestics, such as
, SS=0.88V/dec, and especially 3.6V of
under positive bias stress (PBS) for 3600s. On the other hand, without SU-8 passivation,
was 7.7V. XPS and FTIR analyses results showed that SU-8 passivation layer prevents the oxygen desorption/adsorption processes significantly, and this feature makes the effectiveness of SU-8 passivation layer for PBS.
WDM/TDM-Based Channel Allocation Methodology in Optical Network-on-Chip

An optical network-on-chip(ONoC) architecture is emerging as a new paradigm for solving on-chip communication bottleneck. Recent studies on ONoC have been focusing on supporting the parallel transmission and avoiding path collisions using wavelength division multiplexing(WDM). However, since the maximum number of wavelengths, which a single waveguide can accommodate is limited by crosstalk and insertion loss. Therefore previous WDM studies based on incrementing the number of different wavelengths according to the number of nodes would be infeasible due to the implementation complexity. To solve such problems, we combined time division multiplexing(TDM) and wavelength-routed ONoC, along with an optimized channel allocation algorithm, which can minimize the number of extra wavelength channels and latency caused by combining TDM scheme.
Consecutive Difference Expansion Based Reversible DNA Watermarking

Of recent interests on high capacity DNA storage, DNA watermarking for DNA copyright protection, and DNA steganography for DNA secret communication are augmented, the reversible DNA watermarking is much needed both to embed the watermark without changing the functionality of organism and to perfectly recover the host DNA sequence. In this paper, we address two ways of DE based reversible DNA watermarking using noncoding DNA sequence. The reversible DNA watermarking should consider the string structure of a DNA sequence, the organism functionality, the perfect recovery, and the high embedding capacity. We convert the string sequence of four characters in noncoding region to the decimal coded values and embed the watermark bit into coded values by two ways; DE based multiple bits embedding (DE-MBE) using pairs of neighbor coded values and consecutive DE-MBE (C-DE-MBE). Two ways process the comparison searching to prevent the false start codon that produces false coding region. Experimental results verified that our ways have more high embedding capacity than conventional methods and produce no false start codon and recover perfectly the host sequence without the reference sequence. Especially C-DE-MBE can embed more high two times than DE-MBE.
Congestion Degree Based Available Bandwidth Estimation Method for Enhancement of UDT Fairness

In the end to end data transfer protocols, it is very important to correctly estimate available bandwidth. In UDT (UDP based Data Transfer), receiver estimates the MTR (Maximum Transfer Rate) of the current link using pair packets transmitted periodically from sender and, then sender finally decides the MTR through EWMA (Exponential Weighted Moving Average) algorithm. Here, MTR has to be exactly estimated because available bandwidth is calculated with difference of MTR and current transfer rate. However, when network is congested due to traffic load and where competing flows are coexisted, it bring about a severe fairness problem. This paper proposes a congestion degree based MTR estimation algorithm. Here, the congestion degree stands a relative index for current congestion status on bottleneck link, which is calculated with arriving intervals of a pair packets. The algorithm try to more classify depending on the congestion degree to estimate more actual available bandwidth. With the network simulation results, our proposed method showed that the fairness problem among the competing flows is significantly resolved in comparison with that of UDT.
Forged Color Region Detection Using Color Pattern Decomposition and Hypothesis Test

In this paper, we present a new method that can detect forged color region using color pattern decomposition and hypothesis testing approach. On the basis of the fact that the variance of the interpolated pixel is smaller than that of the original pixel, we use a statistical test method to judge the statistical inconsistency of variance. For this, we calculate the variance adopting a color pattern decomposition according to the demosaicking pattern. In addition, we apply high-pass filtering to enlarge the difference between the variances of original and interpolated pixel. Through experimental simulations, we can see that our proposed method can effectively detect forged color regions and shows superior detection performance compared to the conventional method.
A Study of Improving LDP Code Using Edge Directional Information

This study proposes new LDP code to improve facial expression recognition rate by including local directional number(LDN), edge magnitudes and differences of neighborhood edge intensity. LDP is less sensitive on the change of intensity and stronger about noise than LBP. But LDP is difficult to express the smooth area without changing of intensity and if background image has the similar pattern with a face, the facial expression recognition rate of LDP is low. Therefore, we make the LDP code has the local directional number and the edge strength and experiment the facial expression recognition rate of changed LDP code.
Eye Contact System Using Depth Fusion for Immersive Videoconferencing

In this paper, we propose a gaze correction method for realistic video teleconferencing. Typically, cameras used in teleconferencing are installed at the side of the display monitor, but not in the center of the monitor. This system makes it too difficult for users to contact each eyes. Therefore, eys contact is the most important in the immersive videoconferencing. In the proposed method, we use the stereo camera and the depth camera to correct the eye contact. The depth camera is the kinect camera, which is the relatively cheap price, and estimate the depth information efficiently. However, the kinect camera has some inherent disadvantages. Therefore, we fuse the kinect camera with stereo camera to compensate the disadvantages of the kinect camera. Consecutively, for the gaze-corrected image, view synthesis is performed by 3D warping according to the depth information. Experimental results verify that the proposed system is effective in generating natural gaze-corrected images.
Low-Power Backlight Control and Its Acceleration Based on Image Resizing for Mobile LCD Displays

In this paper, we propose a fast algorithm for low-power image enhancement method for mobile LCD. In the proposed fast algorithm, the spatial resolution of the input image is significantly reduced, and the image characteristics are analyzed on the reduced resolution image to find a dimming rate adaptive to the image content, thereby saving power. The proposed fast adaptive dimming and image enhancement algorithm is implemented as an application that runs on an Android device. Image quality evaluation and running time analysis experiments on the device indicate that the proposed fast algorithm jointly minimizes the quality degradation and power consumption, reducing the required computation load by over 95%.
Signaling Method of Multiple Motion Vector Resolutions Using Contradiction Testing

Although most current video coding standards set a fixed motion vector resolution like quarter-pel accuracy, a scheme supporting multiple motion vector resolutions can improve the coding efficiency of video since it can allow to use just required motion vector accuracy depending on the video content and at the same time to generate more accurate motion predictor. However, the selected motion vector resolution for each motion vector is a signaling overhead. This paper proposes a contradiction testing-based signaling scheme of the motion vector resolution. The proposed method selects a best resolution for each motion vector among multiple candidates in such a way to produce the minimum amount of coded bits for the motion vector. The signaling overhead is reduced by contradiction testing that operates under a predefined criterion at both encoder and decoder with a purpose of pruning irrelevant candidate motion vector resolutions from signaling responsibility. Experimental results verified that the proposed scheme is effective in reducing coded motion information by achieving its
delta bit rate (BDBR) gain of about 4.01% on average (and up to 15.17%) compared to the conventional scheme with a fixed motion vector resolution.
A Selection Method of Reliable Codevectors using Noise Estimation Algorithm

Speech enhancement has been required as a preprocessor for a noise robust speech recognition system. Codebook-based Speech Enhancement (CBSE) is highly robust in nonstationary noise environments compared with conventional noise estimation algorithms. However, its performance is severely degraded for the codevector combinations that have lower correlation with the input signal since CBSE depends on the trained codebook information. To overcome this problem, only the reliable codevector combinations are selected to be used to remove the codevector combinations that have lower correlation with input signal. The proposed method produces the improved performance compared to the conventional CBSE in terms of Log-Spectral Distortion (LSD) and Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality (PESQ).
A Continuous Sliding Surface Transformed VSS by Saturation Function for MIMO Uncertain Linear Plants

In this note, a continuous sliding surface transformed variable structure systems by the saturation function is presented for MIMO uncertain linear plants. A discontinuous sliding surface transformed VSS is proposed theoretically. The closed loop exponential stability together with the MIMO existence condition of the sliding mode on the predetermined sliding surface is investigated. For practical applications, a continuous approximation of the discontinuous VSS is made by means of the saturation function. The discontinuity of the control input as the inherent property of the VSS is much improved in view of the practical aspects. Through a design example and simulation studies, the usefulness of the proposed continuous transformed VSS controller is verified.
Human-Powered Generator designed for Sustainable Driving

Human-powered self-generating devices have been attractive with its operation characteristic independent from outer environment such as weather condition and wind speed. However, conventional self-generators have low electric power output due to their weakly-coupled electromagnetic structure. More importantly, rotary crank motion which is usually adopted by conventional self-generator to generate electricity requires specific skeletal muscles to maintain large torque circular motion and consequently, causes fatigue on those muscles before it can generate enough amount of electricity for any practical application. Without improvement in electric power output and usability, the human-powered self-generator could not be used in everyday life. This study aims to develop a human-powered self-generator which realized a strong electromagnetic coupling in a closed-loop tubular structure (hula-hoop shape) for easy and steady long-term driving as well as larger electric output. The performance and usability of the developed human-powered generator is verified through experimental comparison with a commercial one. Additionally, human workload which is a key element of a human-powered generator but not often considered elsewhere, is estimated based on metabolic energy expenditure measured respiratory gas analyzer. Further study will focus on output and portability enhancement, which can contribute to the continuous power supply of mobile equipments.
Development of Quality Competitiveness Assessment Model for RFID Tags in Apparel Retail

The 'Quality Competitiveness Index' (QCI) is defined as an quantitative and disinterested indicator that measures and compares the quality of products across the world. The purpose of this study is to suggest the 'Quality Competitiveness Assessment Model' (QCAM) and calculate QCI of a popular UHF RFID Label tag (Global ISO 18000-3C supported) available these days in a global apparel market. The model was based on KS-QEI(Korean Standard-Quality Excellence Index), and was composed with the following 4 evaluation categories, a process capability test, an environmental reliability test, a durability test and a design margin test. The QCI score can be calculated with the following formula, using the weighted arithmetic mean between a score of each evaluation category (
) and each weight(
). The actual weights was determined by an result of AHP survey to which was conducted for the related Industry-University-Institute experts. The proposed index shows the results of comparisons with global competitor's products as well as the high-quality domestic RFID label tags. In addition, it will play an important role for manufacturers when developing their future products.
Development of Smart Wheelchair System and Navigation Technology For Stable Driving Performance In Indoor-Outdoor Environments

In the present study, as part of the technology development (Quality of Life Technology, QoLT) to improve the socio-economic status of people with disabilities as an extension of these studies, we propose the development of the smart wheelchair system and navigation technology for stable and safe driving in various environments. For the disabled and the elderly make driving easy and convenient with manual/autonomous driving condition, we firstly develop the user-oriented smart wheelchair system with optimized sensors for environment recognition, and then we propose a navigation framework of a hierarchical structure to ensure real-time response, as well as driving stability when traveling to various environmental changes, and to enable a more efficient operation. From the result of several independent experiments, we ensure efficiency and safety of smart wheelchair and its navigation system.
Performance Analysis of SFBC-OFDM Systems with a Antenna Selection using Pilot Symbols

In this paper, we analyze a SFBC-OFDM(Space Frequency Block Code-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system with antenna selection method using pilot symbols. An antenna selection criterion is based on channel coefficients estimated from pilot symbols. At each frequency, the channel coefficients is arranged and the best is selected, and then data is sent to those antenna with the best coefficients. Also, The coding and diversity gain of the proposed system are analyzed.
Implementation of Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation System for Multi-level Decision Making

This paper described a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and implemented assessment system for multi-layer decision making. The proposed method is a assessment before bidding through the key questions using fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and the entropy weights. The key questions are given by the wider investigation of major sports event organizers. The paper carried out evaluation of single factor and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation from low layer to high layer step by step. In order to verify the effectiveness of proposed method, we built the sports event management service platform (SEMSP) for assessment of applicant city. This method represents a unified one of the quantitative results and the qualitative results based on the judgment of experts.
