Numerical Simulation of Incipient Breaking Waves

For the time-domain simulation of incipient breaking waves, usually the boundary integral method has been used so far, and it seems to be successful except a problem of too much computation time. The present paper shows a new computation technique for the simulation of breaking wave experiment. This technique uses the high-order spectral/boundary element method and the boundary integral method in sequence, and reduces the computation time remarkably. The wave generation and energy focusing process is efficiently simulated by the high-order spectral/boundary element method. Only the wave over-turning process is simulated by the boundary integral method. In the example calculation result, salient features of breaking waves such as high particle velocities and accelerations are shown.
Analysis for the Propulsion with Peristaltic Motion

Flow mechanism of peristaltic motion is numerically and experimentally investigated to obtain a propulsive force in highly viscous fluid. Computing code for the analysis of the motions is developed with cell-centered unstructured grid scheme. The computed results by the developed code is compared with the experimental results which have been carried out to find out the propulsion mechanism in highly viscous fluid. The computed results shows good correlation with the experimental results and further the propulsive force can be obtained by sinusoidal motion which makes a pressure difference on waving surface. The more computation with variation of Reynolds number and parameters of motion is expected for finding a proper working range.
Optimum Inverse Design of 2-D Cascade Airfoil

The present paper describes the optimum inverse design of 2-D linear cascade airfoil. The pressure coefficient of an airfoil surface is taken as the objective function, and non-orthogonal incompressible Navier-Stokes equation is applied to calculate the pressure coefficient. Both of steepest descent and conjugate gradient method have been used to make the objective function go to zero. The 1st order finite differential method is applied to the searching direction and the golden section method is used to compute the searching distance. As a result of the present work, a good convergence to the target airfoil has been obtained.
Experimental Study on Slow Drift Motion Damping

In the present study, the amount of slow drift motion damping of shuttle tanker in still water and various environments is measured through free decay model test. Although the estimation of slow drift damping is essential in analysing slow drift motion of moored FPSO or DP controlled shuttle tanker, it is difficult to predict damping accurately by theoretical analysis. The estimation of drift damping depends on model test mostly. Through the model test, the amount of slow drift damping is measured and the effects of environments and thruster action on drift damping are investigated. The measured damping characteristics are expected to be used in the analysis on slow drift motion of moored vessel.
Draft Effects on Hydroelastic Analysis of Pontoon-type VLFS

Present study aims to investigate draft effects on hydro-elastic response of pontoon type VLFS(Very Large Floating Structure). A three dimensional higher-order boundary element method(HOBEM: Hong et al;1999, Choi, Hong and Choi; 2001) is extended to analyze elastic response of structures. Intensive numerical calculations were carried out for box type structure to investigate the draft effect on hydrodynamic forces on pontoon type VLFS. Main attention was paid to wave run-up along the waterline for various cases of draft scantling. It is found that the draft effects on the hydro-elastic response of pontoon type VLFS are important especially in short wave range and shallow water region.
A Study on the Hull form Development of High-Speed Passenger Ship for the Yellow Sea Region

This paper is for the hull form development of high-speed passenger ship in the Yellow Sea. To carry out hull form development in Yellow Sea, a catamaran which is designed for high-speed as well as comfortable passenger vessel up to now is selected and investigated. For this, environments of the Yellow Sea such as tide, water depth and so on are considered as important factor. The economical efficiency of the designed ship is considered too. In order to estimate the resistance characteristics of the designed hull form, numerical simulations and model test are performed.

A Study on Form Parameter Method by Optimum Vertex Point Search

In order to generate hull form, we introduced optimization process. Fairness criteria is applied to object function, B-Spline control vertices are considered as design variables, optimization is proceeded with satisfying geometric constraint conditions. GA(Genetic Algorithm) and optimality criteria are applied to optimization process in this study.
