A Study on Factors Influencing Handwriting of Preschool Children

Purpose: This study investigated the relationships of handwriting legibility and perceptual-motor skills, and handwriting speed and perceptual-motor skills. And identified the predictors that most affect the handwriting of preschool children. Methods: Twenty-three typically developing preschool aged children (mean age: 68.61 months, SD=2.04) were selected through the Korean-Denver Developmental Screening Test-2(K-DDST-2). The children were tested with regard to handwriting legibility, visual perception, visual-motor integration and fine-motor coordination. Results: First, a significant relationship was not found among handwriting legibility, visual perception, visual-motor integration and fine-motor coordination. Second, a significant relationship was found among handwriting speed, visual perception and fine-motor coordination. Third, stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that general visual perception were significant predictors for handwriting speed. Conclusion: Occupational therapists should evaluate children's visual perception levels utilizing a standardized test, and focus on general visual perception in order to improve handwriting skill(speed). Also, occupational therapists are expected to play an important role in the management and treatment of children's handwriting skills.
The Effects of Visual Perception Training Program on Writing Intelligibility and Visual Perception Ability of Children with Spastic Cerebral Palsy

Purpose: This study intends to investigate if visual perception training program has influence on writing intelligibility and visual perception ability of the children who have spastic cerebral palsy. Methods: The subjects were 12 children of 4-8 years old. Classifying them into 2 groups - cerebral palsy children group(6) and normal children group(6), visual perception training program was conducted to the cerebral palsy children group twice a week for 4 weeks. Korean alphabet writing test and Korean-version development test on visual perception(DTVP-2) were used for the test. Result: First, the cerebral palsy children group had significantly lower scores on visual perception than the normal children group. Second, Two groups didn't show significantly difference between before and after the visual perception training program. Third, The normal children group significantly increased at three parts without the visual perception training program. Forth, The cerebral palsy children group significantly increased at the only a part after the visual perception training program Conclusion: For the visual perception ability improvement of cerebral palsy children, it is necessary to systematic and continued intervention. And the study about the effect of the visual perception training program application according to by type characteristic of the cerebral palsy child wishes to proceed.
Effects of Aerobic Exercise Combined Abdominal Ultrasound Therapy for Obesity Management Of Workers

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of abdominal ultrasound accompanied by aerobic exercise in shift work employees working in industry. Method: Thirty shift work employees were randomly assigned to either a aerobic exercise group (control group) or a aerobic exercise and ultrasound treatment group (experimental group). The control group carried out aerobic exercise five times per week for 4 weeks, while the experimental group performed aerobic exercise twice per week and received deep ultrasound three times per week for 4 weeks. Result: The results showed that there were no significant differences in body composition between the two groups. There were significant changes in weight, lean body mass, body fat mass, and body mass index in the control group; meanwhile, significant changes in weight and body fat mass were observed in the experimental group. Conclusion: According to the results of this study concerning short-term obesity management programs, aerobic exercise was effective for improving of body composition and weight loss, while aerobic exercise combined with abdominal ultrasound had a good effect secondary complication prevention.
The Effects of the Manual Intervention and Self Corrective Exercise Models of General Coordinative Manipulation on the Distorsional Leg

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the manual intervention and self corrective exercise models of GCM(General Coordinative Manipulation) on the groups bow-knee and knock-knee. Methods: GCM Center of 23 members were divided into the two different groups. 12 members of group bow-knee and 11 members of group knock-knee applied to each manual intervention and self corrective exercise models of GCM. Two different groups were applied to 1 cycle a day for 4 weeks, 3 times a week. Results: The effect of manual intervention and self corrective exercise models of GCM on the groups bow-knee and knock-knee was significant(z<.05). The relationship between groups bow-knee and knock-knee was no significant(z>.05). Conclusion: the manual intervention and self corrective exercise models of GCM was contributed in the Correct recovery of bow-knee and knock-knee(z<.05).
The Effects of Personalized Residential Environment Improvement on Occupational Performance Satisfaction and Activities of Daily Living : Case Studies in Stroke Patients

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of personalized residential environment improvement on occupational performance satisfaction and activities of daily living(ADL) in stroke patients, and desire to use as the basis for presenting an effective method for improving the residential environment of the disabled patients. Method: This study has been carried out with 3 stroke patients undergoing therapy for rehabilitation at the S hospital from August 2014 to January 2015. Residential environment improvement was conducted based on the desired space. Occupational performance, satisfaction and ADL assessed by modified COPM, K-MBI. Intervention has provided grab bar and aids fit to the environment of each person. Result: After residential environment improvement, ADL score was improved, but improved scores for specific items only. In occupational performance and satisfaction, there was a significant difference. Conclusion: The results of this study were to find out that there is a positive effect of personalized residential environment improvement on occupational performance satisfaction and activities of daily living in stroke patients, could be used as a basis for presenting an effective way to residential environment improvement of the disabled patients.
Effects of Muscle Strengthening Exercises on Function and Pain for Rotator Cuff Partial Tear Patients

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of muscle strengthening exercise on shoulder function and pain for rotator cuff tear patients. Method: The subjects of this study, partial tear of the rotator cuff diagnosed patients, twelve patients were picked up, who were agreed with this research. The twelve patients received muscle strengthening exercise for 4 weeks, which consisted of 5 times per week, 40 min of supervised exercise program. Shoulder function and pain, measured by ROM, CMS, SST, PPT and VAS. Result: In comparison of VAS, PPT and ROM, CMS, SST were showed a more improved after intervention. Conclusion: Therefore, muscle strengthening exercise is useful to improve the shoulder function and pain for rotator cuff tear patients.
Emotional Recognition According to General Characteristics of Stroke Patients

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in emotion recognition according to general characteristics of stroke patients. Method: The subjects consisted of 38 stroke patients receiving rehabilitation at S Hospital in Busan. Used the eMETT program to assess emotional cognition. Result: The age and duration of disease showed statistically significant differences in emotion recognition ability score, the gender and lesion showed a statistically significant difference in some emotion(p<.05). Conclusion: The results of this study it can be seen that the difference in emotion recognition ability in accordance with the general characteristics of the stroke. There will be a variety of future research related to standardized research or interventions targeted at stroke patients and normal controls to be carried out.
The Effects of Quadriceps Femoris Muscle activation by Closed and Open kinetic chain Exercises

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compared the muscle activities of vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris in open kinetic chain and closed kinetic chain. Methods: Subjects of the study were 30 adults students. They were divided into 2 group, one for open kinetic chain and other for closed kinetic chain of extension, flexion, the maximum extension for vastus medialis, vastus latarealis, rectus femoris muscle activation. Results: Rectus femoris increased open kinetic chain group about all posture and vastus medialis increased open kinetic chain group about the maximum extension and flexion. and vastus lateralis increased open kinetic chain group about the maximum extension and flexion. Conclusion: Muscle activation are at the highest with the open kinetic chain in vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, rectus femoris. probably steady exercise thinked for open kinetic chain and closed kinetic chain.
A Comparison of the Shoulder Stability Muscle Activity according to the Shoulder Flexion Angles in Open and Closed Kinetic Chain Exercise

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate any visible difference in shoulder stability muscle activity along the bending angle(
) to perform the open kinetic chain(OKC) and closed kinetic chain(CKC) exercise. Method: This study was performed on normal 20 males subjects. Exercise was carried out in two ways OKC and CKC. Shoulder stability muscles are examined activity in the bending angles. In the OKC and CKC exercise to subjects with stretched out waist straightened, and than push forward the shoulder. Muscular activation was examined using the WEMG-8. Result: The results of this study were as follows. 1. Only in the trapezius muscle, it showed specific interaction between exercise methods and angles. When it comes to muscle activity, there was no significant difference in all muscles except for the anterior fibers of the deltoid muscle during both CKC and OKC exercise. 2. The average value of maximum muscle activity was significantly increased with increasing order of angles. But in CKC exercise, the muscle activity of infraspinatus tended to decrease with increasing angles. Conclusion: To summarize the research results, the muscle activity in upper fibers of the trapezius, anterior fibers of the deltoid, and serratus anterior was significantly different depending on the angle of the shoulder in both CKC and OKC exercise.
Effects of the Home Exercise Program and Exercise Program of Round Shoulder Adjusting on the Shoulder Height, the Level of Trapezius Muscle Activity and Attention Capacity for Middle School Students

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of home exercise program and exercise program of round shoulder adjustments on the level of trapezius muscle activity and attention capacity for middle school students. Method: The participants in this study were composed of 21 middle school students. We made the students lie on the floor in prone position, then measured the height of their acromion from the floor. We chose participants for our study whose measurement values were over 2.5cm. We divided them into two groups, one is for the experimental group, and the other is for the control group. The experimental group exercised three days a week for 6 weeks, including home training, and the control group didn't exercise. We used EMG to measure the trapezius muscle's activity and used a Stroop test for the measurement of the students' attention capacity. Results: The results of our study are as follows. There was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group. However, there was a significant difference within the experimental group when comparing pre and post training results for Trapezius muscle activity and attention capacity. Conclusion: We found that correcting round shoulder symptom increases the Trapezius muscle activity and students' attention capacity. Future experiments should investigate with systemical management. Also, we need to increase the frequency of the exercise and participants.
