Journal of Digital Convergence, volume 12, issue 8, 2014, Pages 1~18
DOI : 10.14400/JDC.2014.12.8.1
Recently, many of the mobile network operators or telcos are introducing the LTE service in order to effectively cope with an explosive increasing mobile traffics due to an expansion of the use of smart phones. The 1.8GHz, 2.6GHz, and 800MHz band classes are most widely used for LTE. In particular, the 1.8GHz band class is the most useful one in terms of the reusability of the existing (2G) network, global harmonization, bandwidth, eco-system of equipments and devices, and so on. In recent years, major countries in the world have allocated the 1.8GHz band spectrum in a wide bandwidth unit suitable for the upcoming LTE-Advanced service. This paper surveyed the 1.8GHz band spectrum allocation policies of the 12 OECD countries, including Republic of Korea. From the survey, we have found that they rebuilt or refarmed the existing holders` bands, recovered the public (i.e., military)-use bands, and allocated the bands in a wide bandwidth and in an equal or similar size.

Journal of Digital Convergence, volume 12, issue 8, 2014, Pages 257~264
DOI : 10.14400/JDC.2014.12.8.257
This paper presents the core competencies diagnosis system which targeted our collegiate students in an attempt to induce the core competencies for reinforcing the learning and employment capabilities. Because these days data give rise to a high level of redundancy and dimensionality with time complexity, they are more likely to have spurious relationships, and even the weakest relationships will be highly significant by any statistical test. So as to address the measurement of uncertainties from the classification of categorical data and the implementation of its analytic system, an uncertainty measure of rough entropy and information entropy is defined so that similar behaviors analysis is carried out and the clustering ability is demonstrated in the comparison with the statistical approach. Because the acquired and necessary competencies of the collegiate is deduced by way of the results of the diagnosis, i.e. common core competencies and major core competencies, they facilitate not only the collegiate life and the employment capability reinforcement but also the revitalization of employment and the adjustment to college life.

Essential to the establishment of such 3D spatial information are the laser scanning technology to obtain high-precision 3D point group data and the photography-metric camera to obtain high-resolution multispectral image information. The photography-metric camera, however, lacks in usability for its broad scope of utilization due to the high purchase price, difficult purchase channel, and low applicability. This study thus set out to investigate a technique to establish multi-dimensional ortho-image data with a single lens reflex digital camera of high speed and easy accessibility for general users. That is, the study remodeled a single lens reflex digital camera and calibrated the remodeled camera to establish 3D multispectral image information, which is the essential data of 3D spatial information. Multi-dimensional ortho-image data were collected by surveying the reference points for stereo photos, taking multispectral shots of the objects, and converting them into ortho-images.

DOI : 10.14400/JDC.2014.12.8.321
Feature selection is the technique to improve the classification performance by using a minimal set by removing features that are not related with each other and characterized by redundancy. This study proposed new feature selection using the distance between the center of gravity of the bounded sum of weighted fuzzy membership functions (BSWFMs) provided by the neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions (NEWFM) in order to improve the classification performance. The distance-based feature selection selects the minimum features by removing the worst features with the shortest distance between the center of gravity of BSWFMs from the 24 initial features one by one, and then 22 minimum features are selected with the highest performance result. The proposed methodology shows that sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy are 97.7%, 99.7%, and 98.7% with 22 minimum features, respectively.

DOI : 10.14400/JDC.2014.12.8.329
Collaborative filtering has been popular in commercial recommender systems, as it successfully implements social behavior of customers by suggesting items that might fit to the interests of a user. So far, most common method to find proper items for recommendation is by searching for similar users and consulting their ratings. This paper suggests a new similarity measure for movie recommendation that is based on genre interest, instead of differences between ratings made by two users as in previous similarity measures. From extensive experiments, the proposed measure is proved to perform significantly better than classic similarity measures in terms of both prediction and recommendation qualities.

DOI : 10.14400/JDC.2014.12.8.337
This paper proposes a minimal contour tracking algorithm that reduces transmission of data for tracking mobile objects in surveillance networks in terms of detection and communication load. This algorithm perform detection for object tracking and when it transmit image data to server from camera, it minimized communication load by reducing quantity of transmission data. This algorithm use minimal tracking area based on the kinematics of the object. The modeling of object`s kinematics allows for pruning out part of the tracking area that cannot be mechanically visited by the mobile object within scheduled time. In applications to detect an object in real time, when transmitting a large amount of image data it is possible to reduce the transmission load.

DOI : 10.14400/JDC.2014.12.8.345
The most important decision of process planning for the manufacturing system is the machine selection problem to minimize machining costs. Each machine has its own different machining performance indicating a different fraction of scrap, making the cost of scrap generated by machining is different for each machine. Therefore, when we decide on machine selection, we must consider the machining cost and the cost of scrap generated. This paper describes the statistical model for the fraction of scrap generated by machining and the machine selection algorithm considering the total cost including the machining cost and the cost of scrap generated.

DOI : 10.14400/JDC.2014.12.8.397
This study sought to identify types of health behavior clusters among Korean adults and their related factors. A secondary analysis of 1,441 subjects, aged 19 to 64, in the 2009 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES IV-3) was conducted. A cluster analysis was used to identify types of clusters related to physical activity, smoking, and alcohol drinking. A complex samples chi square test and multivariate logistic regression were performed to analyze the associations between types of health behavior clusters and sample`s characteristics using SPSS WIN 21. Five clusters were identified: health promotion, smoking, alcohol drinking, passive attitude, and risky behavior. The passive attitude cluster had the most subjects, with 47.7% of subjects as members. Socio-demographic factors, hypertension, and depressive symptoms were associated with membership in the alcohol drinking, smoking, passive attitude, or risky behavior cluster rather than the health promotion cluster. The findings of this study suggest that integrated health promotion programs incorporating multiple strategies need to be investigated. In addition, further studies should explore psychosocial factors that affect health behavior clusters, such as stress, self-efficacy, social support, and social networks.

Despite the ever-increasing smartphone addiction of adolescents and a variety of consequent problems not much research has been conducted on the issue. It is time to prepare a set of countermeasures to protect them from the addiction. The central purpose of the current paper is to identify how use motives, self-control and social withdrawal affect their smartphone addiction. It was found (i) that the motives of information acquisition, social relationship, amusement and use of leisure time exert significant influence on smartphone addiction, (ii) that less self-control and greater impulsiveness result in greater addiction, and (iii) that social withdrawal of users also have significant effect on smartphone addiction. Such findings are expected to provide base data for any attempt to develop countermeasures against addiction. It is desirable that we had better check the play activities of adolescents and develop self-control programs to help them alleviate impulsiveness than simply impose strict restrictions on the use of smartphones.

DOI : 10.14400/JDC.2014.12.8.475
They are used as a symbol representing some meaning of an object. Geometric patterns in the formative arts have been recasted by artists and used to express modern images. Simple shapes of geometric patterns create beauty with their outward appearance and decorated patterns. The simpleness of decorated patterns go with restrained, rational, and modern concepts. The patterns decorated with geometric patterns use geometric figures such as octagon, triangle, quadrangle, etc. and they give satisfaction to modern people. They are also regular and simple, so they can create impactive visual effects and three-dimensional space can be created with these dynamic patterns. Therefore, attractiveness of shape which gives enjoyment is also found in tableware design using geometric patterns. Using geometric patterns in tableware design is not based on a chance factor, so it is possible to objectify and reproduce the patterns. These repetitive designs can influence a lot of designers working on tableware and help improve the tableware designs. It is also considered that those designs are able to create new opportunities to produce a high value product in the ceramics industry.

DOI : 10.14400/JDC.2014.12.8.501
The purpose of this study was to examine experiences of caring parents-in-law in Korea among daughters-in-law who are currently caring their parents-in-law while living with them, or have experienced such care-giving, and who have been married for at least 5 years. Daughters-in-law this study deals with are from three countries: Korean women, Chinese and Japanese women who immigrated to Korea by getting married with Korean husbands. To find out those women who can express their experiences clearly, this study used an intentional sampling method where this study asked the Multicultural Family Support Center to recommend five Chinese and five Japanese housewives who matched the following qualifications: those who have experiences of caring their parents-in-law at home, who have lived in Korea for at least five years, and who had no difficulty in expressing their opinions in Korean language. Korean married women were recommended by the neighbors. This study conducted in-depth interviews to those 15 housewives from Korea, china, and Japan. Before doing the interview, this study gave explanation of the contents and aims of this study to those interview participants over phone, and got the written consent from each of the women. To analyze the interview data, Colaizzi`s phenomenological method was used. The emergent themes identified in the findings were as follows: `positive perception of traditional nature of filial duty`, `help and encouragement by those who are nearby`, `exhausting marriage life`, `Korean family culture that is hard to adapt to`, and `unreasonable male-focused patriarchal culture.`
