Systematic Studies on the Skull and Superficial Cephalic Muscles of the Cyprinid Fish, Coreoleuciscus splendidus Mori(Pisces, Cyprinidae)

The skull and superficial cephalis muscles of Coreoleuciscus splendidus Mori was investigated comparatively with other some fishes of the family Cyprinidae to study on the systematic position of this species. Coreoleuciscs splendidus was unique in the morphology of sphenotic process and the urohyal and this species differ from the true bottom dwellers of the subfamily Gobioninae in the strucutre of cephalic lateral-line canals, the relation of parasphenoids with pterotic and prootic, the morphology of urohyal , basihyal , hypobranchial, and , particulary, the configuration of adductor manibulae complex. With reference to the information so far obtained , the taxonomic position of the present species was discussed in the Cyprinidae.
Systematic and Evolutionary Study on the Genus Parus(Passeriformes : Paridae) in Korea

Electrophoretic methods were used to examine the degree of genic variation and genetic relatedness in 11 populations representing 6 species and subspecies of the genus Parus in Korea. The average degree of genic variation of 3 subspecies of P. major was =1.2, =24.4% , D=0.042, and G=0.058, whereas the rest of the species showed slightly lower degree of genic variation than P. major. Genetic relatedness between subspecies and species in the genus Parus showed similar to those reported at comparable taxnonomic levels in other birds. But it appears to be considerably less than that of non avian taxa. Genetic relatedness between 3 subspecies of P.major and P. varius varius was closely related(=0.80), whereas between P.palustrius hellmayri and P.ater amurensis was relatively remote (=0.67). The presumed divergent times of P.palustrius hellmayri, P, ater amurensis , and P. varius varius were about 1.8, 1.6, and 1.0million years before present respectively, and 3 subspecies of P. major were recently differentiated about 100 thousands years before present.

In the course of the study program of benthic invertebrates of the coastal shelves of Korean Peninsula, the shallow -water chitons (Mollusca : Polyplacophora) are studied based on the collections of the Korea Ocean Research and Development Insitute made between 1980 and 1983. A total of sixteen species belonging to the Orders Lepidopleurina and Ischnochitonina , are now recognized from Korean waters,of which the following two species are newly recorded ; Leptochiton (Leptochiton ) rugatus (Carpenter in Pilsbry), and Mopalia schrencki Thiele. Illustrations, description and complte synonymies are provided for each of them.

As a result of the systematic study on the marine anascan bryozoans in Korea, a total of 27 species were identified and the following seven species were new to Korean fauna ; Membranipora perfragilis, Membranipora serrilamella, Terminoflustra sagamiensis, Callopora lineata, Thalamoperella rozieri, Canda retriformis and Amastigia xishaensis.
A New Species , Microdrosophila chejuensis (Diptera ; Drosophilidae) from Korea

One species of Korean Drosophiliae, Microdrosophila (Microdrosophila) Chejuensis , n. sp. was described as new to science and the male genitalia was illustrated. All seven species in the genus Microdrosophila including the new species are known to be distributed in Korea at present.
