Morphometric Anlayses with Eight Subspecies of Striped Field Mice, Apodemus agrarius Pallas (Rodentia , Mammalia) , in Asia : The Taxonomic Status of Subspecies chejuensis at Cheju island in Korea

In order to determine the taxonomic status of Apodemus agrarius chejuensis from Cheju island in Korea, three hundred and eleven samples of eight subspecies of striped field mice (subspecies, agrarius, ningpoensis , pallidior, chevrieri, insulaemus, manchuricus, coreae, and chejuensis of A. agrarius Pallas) in Asia, collected from Turkey , China, Taiwan, , Manchuria, and Koarea, were used. Four external and 27 cranial characters were measured and their measurements were utilized for multivariate analyses such as cluster, principal component, and discriminant analyses. Four forms were revealed . A largest-size from was chejuensis, whereas a large-size form was cheverieri. A medium -size from and a small-size from were coreae and other five subspecies (agrarius , ningpoensis, pallidior, insulaemus, and manchuricus) , respecitvley, but their differences were clinal. A discontinuous gap was revealed between chejuensis (a largest-size from) and six subspecies ( a medium-size from and a small-size form) Although chejuensis appeared to be a distinct species, it is concluded that molecular analyses are necessary in order to describe it as a new species.
A New Acheilognathine Fish, Acheilognathus somjinensis (Pisces: Cyprinidae) from Korea

A new speices of cyprinid fish, Acheilognathus somjinensis is described based on the specimens collected in the Somjin River, Sinpyong-myon, Imsil -gun , Chollabuk-do province of Korea. In general morphology it is similar to A. koreensis. however, the new speices differs from the latter in having longer ovipositor of female in spawing season and showing pear-shaped eggs. In hybridization experiments, it was found that A.somjinensis is repoductively isolated from A.koreensis.
A Systematic Study on the Ascidians in Korea

This study on the systematic study of ascidians from Korea was based on the materials collected at 41 localities from July 1969 to September 1989. 40 species, eight families, three suborders in two orders were identified, Of these four species were new records for Korean waters ; Polyclinum planum, Didemnum candidum, Stylea plicata, and Molgula calvata. They were described with illustrations, and the species which were characterized by spicules and siphonal armatures were added with plate figures.

43'E) , P.R. China were investigated. collected samples were observed directly and we also observed cultured ones and stained specimens. In relation to this species were described the morphology and infraciliature in detail using protargol method, presented a new diagnosis and discussed some synonyms and the related species, Actinotricha saltans sensu Dragesco, 1963.
Rotifera From Korean Inland Waters II. Colurellidae(Rotifera : Monogononta)

The systematic study of freshwater rotifers was conducted on the materials collected from 197 sites in South Korea. As a result, 9 species of Family Colurellidae were identified, 4 species ( 1 species and 3 subspeices) of which are new to the Korea fauna ; Courella uncinata uncinata, Squatinella rostrum rostrum, Lepadella patella patella, and L.elliptica. Total 165 species representing 13 families and 40 genera are now recorded by addign the species described in the present paper.
The First Zoeal Stage of Pinnotheres sinensis SHEN, 1932 (CURSTACEA，BRACHYRA, PINNOTHERIDAE) Reared in the Laboratory

The first zoea of Pinnotheres sinensis showed the characteristics which were correspond well with those of Pinnotheres zoeae ; No carapace spines, endopodites of maxillule and maxilla with 0.4, 1.2(3) setation and endopodite of second maxilliped with 0.4 setation. However, the setations of the basal and coxal endites of the maxillule and maxilla was different from those of Muraoka and Konishi (1977), Konishi(1983).The host of adult crab was Tapes, not mytilus . Thus, there was a need for detailed description of the Korean crab of Pinnotheres sinensis symbiotic with Tapes.
