Investigation of Stresses Due to Various Parameters of Shell and Tube Oil Cooler

The present work aims to estimate channel, shell, tube and tube sheet stresses of shell and tube oil cooler stemmed from various parameters. These parameters involve size, thickness and dimension of shell and tube oil cooler, including fluid temperature. The main purpose of the present work is to ensure safety of design products and also develop new products rapidly. For stress evaluation of oil coolers, first of all, the maximum pressure on the shell-side and on the tube side is fixed with 3.1MPa and 1.5MPa, respectively. Secondly, the pressure on each side varies from 2MPa to 3.1MPa on the shell side and tram 0.6MPa to 2MPa on the tube side. Various parameters under these conditions are employed to estimate design stresses on each side of oil cooler. These basic information related to stresses will be useful for a designer or manufacturer of an oil cooler.
Analysis of Flow and Performance of Regulator for Clean Gas Supply System

In this study, flow characteristics at the regulators, which is very important for clean gas supply systems for semiconductors and LCD industries, are investigated. Numerical simulations are carried out to visualize flows at regulators for several flow rates and to investigate pressure losses at some parts in the regulator. Velocity field at the regulator along with the detailed velocity field near the spring and near the valve is shown. New regulator models are proposed in this paper, and numerical simulations are also carried out to visualize flows at regulator for several flow rates, and to investigate pressure losses at the parts in new models. Pressure drops a lot across the valve seat. Pressure drop increases as mass flow rate increases. Especially for small opening, pressure drop increases rapidly as mass flow rate becomes large.
A Study on the Link Composition Design of a Double Link Type Level Luffing Jib Crane (I)

This paper is a study on the link composition design of a double link type level luffing jib crane using path generation synthesis passing through three precision points according to parameters, the length of backstay, the ratio of fly jib length between two moving hinges to the total length of fly jib, the location of a intermediate passing point etc. when the maximum and minimum working radius of the crane are given. The performance of the crane depends on the deviation of the luffing trajectory at fly jib tip. The luffing trajectories according to the above parameters are analyzed and shown in graphs by the developed computer program. In a real-life design, some trials are needed to arrive at a proper link composition design. Therefore, it is expected that the present computer program can rapidly and exactly deal with a link composition design proper to the design criteria of the crane.
Roll Characteristics Evaluation due to the Steering of a SUV with MR Dampers

This study is about roll characteristics evaluation to show the advantage of using MR(magneto-rheological) dampers for steering of a SUV(sports utility vehicle). Roll characteristics is very important to observe the roll-propensity of the SUV. ADAMS/Car program was used to simulate the basic steering motion, using 63 D.O.F. vehicle model. Sky-Hook and Ground-Hook control algorithms were used as a semi-active suspension system controller. The roll characteristics from the steering motion were compared between the simulation results from the semi-active suspension system and the passive suspension system.
The Experimental and Basic Study on Torsional Vibration of Horizontal Rotating Shaft using a Laser Measuring Equipment

In this study, the nose of cam in the automobile engine was modelled into circular disk to analyze the torsional vibration of the cam shaft. The distance between disks was fixed, but the diameter of disks was changed. The torsional vibration of the cam shaft was studied experimentally by the motion of the modelled disk with changing the disk diameter. And the sizes of the modelled disk were selected not to show the natural frequencies over all the experimental ranges. The torsional vibration meter used in this study has a laser system with non-contact measurement method, which can measure both torsional angular vibration velocity and torsional angular vibration displacement simultaneously. The Experimental analysis shows that the characteristics of the torsional vibration in the horizontal rotating shaft can be considerably affected by the arrangement of the modelled disks.
Attenuation Characteristics of the Buried Steel Water Pipes

The attenuation of the fundamental non-torsional modes that propagate down buried steel water pipes has been studied. The mode shapes, mode attenuation due to leakage into the surrounding medium and the scattering of the modes as they interact with pipe joints and fittings have been investigated. In the low frequency region the mode predicted to dominate over significant propagation distances approximates a plane wave in the water within pipe. The established acoustic technique used to locate leaks in buried steel water pipes assumes that leak noise propagates as a single non-dispersive mode at a velocity related to the low frequency asymptote of this water borne mode.
Study on the Corrosion Damages of Pump Impeller

The steel impeller placed in a water pump has been studied with the aim to understand corrosion phenomena on the surface responsible for reducing the pumping efficiency of water inside cooling system. This preliminary experiment includes a period (over 5 months) observation with a powered microscope and weight measurements. The experiments are carried out at different conditions of water and mixtures of water and coolants, based on the water contents of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% water (pure tap water). From the visual results of microscopy, most of the steel surface is fitted and clear rusty or corrosion phenomena are noticeable as time goes. In addition, the weight loss of the sample specimen submerged in the water is linearly increased, whereas those in the mixtures of water initially be constant and then gain weight linearly.
Application Study of Condition Monitoring Technology for Emergency Diesel Generator at Nuclear Power Plant

The emergency diesel generator(EDG) of the nuclear power plant is designed to supply the power to the nuclear reactor on Station Black Out(SBO) condition. The operation reliability of onsite emergency diesel generator should be ensured by a conditioning monitoring system designed to monitor and analysis the condition of diesel generator. For this purpose, we have developing the technologies of condition monitoring for the wolsong unit 3&4 standby diesel generator including diesel engine performance. In this paper, technologies of condition monitoring for the wolsong standby diesel generator are described about three step. First is for selection of operating parameter for monitoring. Second is for technologies of online condition monitoring, Third is for monitoring of engine performance.
Failure Forecasting Technology of Electronic Control System Using Automobile Input/Output Signal Detection

Electronic control system of the engine is composed of various sensors and actuators, This paper is concerned with fault analysis for the stable operation of it. We suggest the technology that can systematically and reliably analyze fault causes of sensors and actuators by using the fault generating program. In results, we can acquire the systematic road map of occurring faults as well as the valuable information related to the operations of sensors and actuators. These results should be very useful to get the classification of fault causes, develop an electronic control system of engine, and review control strategies of it.
A Study on Sensing Characteristics of Carbon Nanotube Smart Composite Nano Sensors Based on Electrical Impedance Measurement

To address the need for new intelligent sensing, this paper introduces nano sensors made of carbon nanotube (CNT) composites and presents their preliminary experiments. Having smart material properties such as piezoresistivity, chemical and bio selectivity, the nano composite can be used as smart electrodes of the nano sensors. The nano composite sensor can detect structural deterioration, chemical contamination and bio signal by means of its impedance measurement (resistance and capacitance). For a structural application, the change of impedance shows specific patterns depending on the structural deterioration and this characteristic is available for an in-situ multi-functional sensor, which can simultaneously detect multi symptoms of the structure. This study is anticipated to develop a new nano sensor detecting multiple symptoms in structural, chemical and bio applications with simple electric circuits.
