Application of Navier-Stokes Equations to Aerodynamic Design of Two-Dimensional Axial-Flow Compressor Blades

An integrated computing system has been developed for a Navier-Stokes design procedure of an axial-flow compressor blades. The process is done on the four separate steps, i.e., determination of the basic profiles, generation of computational grids, cascade flow simulation and analysis of the computed results in design sense. Applications are made to the blade design of the LP compressor. Computational results are analyzed with respect to the flow-field characteristics and are compared with the expected design requirements. The present system are coupled with the design procedure of the turbomachinery blades using the Navier-Stokes technique.

Numerical simulations for various fluid flows require enormous computing time during iterations. In order to solve this problem, several techniques have been proposed. A SOR method is one of the effective methods for solving elliptic equations. However, it is very difficult to find the optimum relaxation factor, the value of this factor for practical problems used to be estimated on the basis of expertise. In this paper, the implication of the relaxation factor are translated into fuzzy control rules on the basis of the expertise of numerical analysers, and fuzzy controller incorporated into a numerical algorithm. From two cases of study, Poisson equation and cavity flow problem, we confirmed the possibility of computational acceleration with fuzzy logic and qualitative reasoning in numerical simulations. Numerical experiments with the fuzzy controller resulted in generating a good performance.
A Study on the Yearly Thermal Environmental Characteristics in Underground Space

The room temperature and air conditioning load in the underground space have been investigated numerically by the unsteady heat conduction equation. The model room has 3 m in height and 10 m in width, and it's position in the underground depth are 0.5 m to 5 m. When the room was located around surface, the room temperatures were strongly influenced by the atmosphere. But the underground depth is more than 2 m, the yearly temperature amplitude was small and the temperature phase was delayed. Up to 5 m of the depth, the cooling and heating load was decreased rapidly, but over 10 m of the depth, the air conditioning load was constant.
Expansion Valves Characteristics for Development of Control System on Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Systems

Performance characteristics of a refrigeration systems with various expansion valves and superheat changes were investigated experimentally. Experimental data have been taken utilizing three different devices; a thermostatic expansion valve, a linear type electronic expansion valve and a solenoid type electronic expansion valve. The data taken from tile three types of expansion valves were discussed with the temperature distribution of each zone in the evaporator and the superheat changes of the evaporator outlet In each zone temperature distribution fluctuated larger with the thermostatic expansion valve than with the electronic expansion valves. The optimum superheat ranged from
, and the superheat with the thermostatic expansion valve showed hunting phenomenon, which affected the evaporating and condensing temperature.
Mechanical Properties of Metal/Ceramic FGM made by Thermal Spraying Method

This study was aimed at development of fabrication process of functionally graded materials(FGM), consisting of metal and ceramic by thermal spraying method. NiCrAIY/
FGM were made by using plasma spraying onto the SS400 carbon steel substrate. And mechanical properties such as microhardness, thermal shock resistance and adhesive strength of the coating layer were investigated. Adhesive strength was evaluated by acoustic emission method. It was resulted that NiCrAIY/
FGM made by thermal spraying method showed excellent thermal shock resistance and adhesive strength compared to the other lamellar structures of sprayed coatings and that AE is useful tool to evaluate the defect of thermal sprayed coating layer.
Acoustic Emission Characteristics of Ceramic Coated Steel by Plasma Spraying

This paper is investigated of hardness and adhesiveness of plasma sprayed coating steels by AE(Acoustic Emission) testing when loading a tensile. AE Parameters used are Event, Count, Energy and Amplitude. Test specimens are carbon steel(S45C) with sprayed coating layers of Ni-4.5wt.%Al(bond coating) and
(top coating), and carry out heat treatment at
, respectively. The micro-hardness of the heat treatment specimen have been improved more than that of non-heat treatment. On the tensile test, the process and occurence of the exfoliation of the sprayed coating layer can be estimated by AE Characteristics of AE parameters, such as event, count, amplitude and energy, on the layer exfoliation are shown the similar aspects. The exfoliation of bond coating occure at about 20% of strain and top coating is about 5% of strain.
A Study on Tire Radial Force Variation and Modal Testing

This paper probes into the influence of tire uniformity on tire's modal parameters with the method of experimental modal analysis. Two radial tires of the same kind with different uniformity level are taken to be tested at different exciting points and real modal parameters are abstracted. The differences of their modal parameters are presented. Then tire transfer functions are constructed with experimental modal parameters and ideal modal parameters respectively. It is found that the measured transfer functions of tire of good uniformity are closer to ideal transfer function than that of tire of bad uniformity. The study shows evident interrelation of experimental modal parameters and tire uniformity, and further study should be of great value.
Edge Detection Using Simulated Annealing Algorithm

Edge detection is the first step and very important step in image analysis. We cast edge detection as a problem in cost minimization. This is achieved by the formulation of a cost function that evaluates the quality of edge configurations. The cost function can be used as a basis for comparing the performances of different detectors. This cost function is made of desirable characteristics of edges such as thickness, continuity, length, region dissimilarity. And we use a simulated annealing algorithm for minimum of cost function. Simulated annealing are a class of adaptive search techniques that have been intensively studied in recent years. We present five strategies for generating candidate states. Experimental results(building image and test image) which verify the usefulness of our simulated annealing approach to edge detection are better than other operator.
A Study on Suppressed Hunting of Diesel Engine Truck Using Electronic Governor

The propulsion diesel engine have been widely applied with a mechanical governor to control the truck speed for a long time. But it was recently very difficult for mechanical governor to control the speed of long stock and diesel engine of truck because of hunting by dead time between fuel injection and power output. This study is aimed to configure the modeling for performance simulation regarding to diesel truck operation which could be suppressed for hunting. The modeling have been made on the base of dynamic characteristic such as electronic governor, injection of fuel system and operating states of diesel engine truck. Real model system have been introduced for deciding reacting parameters and for the comparison of resulting performance in simulation. In results of simulation, we obtained items which diesel truck drives for suppressed hunting.
The Azimuth and Velocity Control of a Mobile Robot with Two Drive Wheels by Neural-Fuzzy Control Method

This paper presents a new approach to the design of speed and azimuth control of a mobile robot with two drive wheels. The proposed control scheme uses a Gaussian function as a unit function in the neural-fuzzy network and back propagation algorithm to train the neural-fuzzy network controller in the framework of the specialized learning architecture. It is proposed to a learned controller with two neural-fuzzy networks based on an independent reasoning and a connection net with fixed weights to simplify the neural-fuzzy network. The performance of the proposed controller can be seen by the computer simulation for trajectory tracking of the speed and azimuth of a mobile robot driven by two independent wheels.
Deburring of Irregular Burr using Vision and Force Sensors

This paper presents an efficient control algorithm that removes irregular burrs using vision and force sensors. In automated robotic deburring, the reference force should be accommodated to the profile of burrs in order to prevent the tool breakage. In this paper, (1) The profile of burrs is recognized by vision sensor and followed by the calculation of reference force, (2) Deburring expert's skill is transferred to robot. Finally, the performance of robot is evaluated through simulation and experiment.
